Abstract— Visible and near‐infrared reflectance spectra of a sample of silicate‐bearing meteorites have been used to evaluate the spectral parameters space defined in the pioneering work of Gaffey et al. (1993). The studied sample consisted of 91 ordinary chondrites, 47 basaltic achondrites, and 21 different laboratory mixtures obtained from the RELAB database. Our results indicate that the spectral parameter space, in particular the BAR versus band I center, is not suitable enough to identify the mineralogy of meteorites and asteroids. The grain size of the sample also appears as a very sensitive parameter and can play an important role in locating an object in the spectral parameter space. Finally, the application of our study to the question of a genetic link between V‐type asteroids and HED meteorites shows that these bodies plot in distinct regions in the BAR versus band I center space. This result further confirms that those spectral parameters cannot uniquely define the mineralogy of a sample.  相似文献

Diamondiferous rocks from the Kokchetav Massif, Kazakhstan, represent deeply subducted continental crust. In order to constrain the age of ultra high pressure (UHP) metamorphism and subsequent retrogression during exhumation, zircons from diamondiferous gneisses and metacarbonates have been investigated by a combined petrological and isotopic study. Four different zircon domains were distinguished on the basis of transmitted light microscopy, cathodoluminescence, trace element contents and mineral inclusions. Mineral inclusions and trace element characteristics of the zircon domains permit us to relate zircon growth to metamorphic conditions. Domain 1 consists of rounded cores and lacks evidence of UHP metamorphism. Domain 2 contains diamond, coesite, omphacite and titanian phengite inclusions providing evidence that it formed at UHP metamorphic conditions (P>43 kbar; T~950 °C). Domain 3 is characterised by low-pressure mineral inclusions such as garnet, biotite and plagioclase, which are common minerals in the granulite-facies overprint of the gneisses (P~10 kbar; T~800 °C). This multi-stage zircon growth during cooling and exhumation of the diamondiferous rocks can be best explained by zircon growth from Zr-saturated partial melts present in the gneisses. Domain 4 forms idiomorphic overgrowths and the rare earth element pattern indicates that it formed without coexisting garnet, most probably at amphibolite-facies conditions (P~5 kbar; T~600 °C). The metamorphic zircon domains were dated by SHRIMP ion microprobe and yielded ages of 527LJ, 528NJ and 526LJ Ma for domains 2, 3 and 4 respectively. These indistinguishable ages provide evidence for a fast exhumation beyond the resolution of SHRIMP dating. The mean age of all zircons formed between UHP metamorphic conditions and granulite-facies metamorphism is 528Dž Ma, indicating that decompression took place in less than 6 Ma. Hence, the deeply subducted continental crust was exhumed from mantle depth to the base of the crust at rates higher than 1.8 cm/year. We propose a two-stage exhumation model to explain the obtained P-T-t path. Fast exhumation on top of the subducted slab from depth >140 to ~35 km was driven by buoyancy and facilitated by the presence of partial melts. A period of near isobaric cooling was followed by a second decompression event probably related to extension in a late stage of continental collision.  相似文献

Summary In cloud microphysics parameterization schemes, explicitly involving the co-existence of cloud water and ice in a temperature interval, it is necessary to solve the question of saturation adjustment in the presence of the mixed phase. In the present paper we propose an iteration procedure, which reliably converges with a small number of iterations, to solve this problem. The procedure is applied to a 3-D prognostic mesoscale model being developed for studying the effect of the ice phase on precipitation forecasts.  相似文献

Two homogeneous (humovitrain and xylain) and one heterogeneous (humoclarain) lithotype macerals, separated from a lignite, were subjected to mild reductive treatment by NaH. The extensive chromatographic separation of the decalin-soluble fraction revealed some structural peculiarities. A strong predominance of α-phyllocladane was characteristic for all macerals. Series of n-, iso-, and anteiso-alkanes, regular isoprenoids, alkylbenzenes and 1-methyl-4-n-alkylcyclohexanes were identified by mass spectrometry. An angiosperm source input was represented by friedelane, lupane and seco-hopane structures. Products of des-A and des-E-ring cleavages and C-10 demethylation were registered by mass spectrometry. The main difference was in the hopane distribution pattern. A strong prevalence of extended ββ-hopanes was found in the humoclarain sample. The mass spectral data revealed the existence of a basic difference in hopane precursors—diploptent or diplopterol for the homogeneous lithotypes and bacteriohopanetetrol for the heterogeneous lithotype.  相似文献

The Alban Hills ultrapotassic volcanic district is one of the main districts emplaced during Quaternary time along the Tyrrhenian margin of Italy. Alban Hills lava flows and scoria clasts are made up essentially of clinopyroxenes and leucites and their chemical composition is mostly K-foiditic. Differentiated products (MgO < 3 wt.%) are characterised by low SiO2 concentration (< 50 wt.%) and geochemical features indicate that this unique differentiation trend is driven by crystal fractionation plus carbonate crust interaction. Notably, the Alban Hills Volcanic District was emplaced into thick limestone units. With the aim of constraining the magmatic differentiation, we performed experiments on the Alban Hills parental composition (plagioclase-free phono-tephrite) under anhydrous, hydrous, and hydrous-carbonated conditions. Experiments were carried out at 1 atm, 0.5 GPa and 1 GPa, temperatures ranging from 1050 to 1300 °C, and H2O and CaCO3 in the starting material up to 2 and 7 wt.%, respectively. The experiments performed at 0.5 GPa are the most representative of the Alban Hills plumbing system. Clinopyroxene and leucite are the main phases occurring under all the investigated conditions and the liquidus phases. Nevertheless, our experimental results demonstrate that the occurrence of CaCO3 in the starting material strongly affects phase relations. Experiments performed under hydrous conditions crystallize magnetite and phlogopite at relatively high temperature. This early crystallization drives the glass composition towards a silica enrichment, resulting in a differentiation trend moving from phono-tephritic (Alban Hills parental composition) to phonolitic compositions. This is in contrast with micro-textural evidence showing late crystallization of magnetite and phlogopite in the natural products and with the composition of the juvenile products. On the contrary, in the CaCO3-bearing experiments (i.e., simulating magma–carbonate interaction) the magnetite and phlogopite stability fields are strongly reduced. As a consequence, the melt differentiation is mainly controlled by the cotectic crystallization of clinopyroxene and leucite, resulting in a differentiation trend moving towards K-foiditic compositions. These experimental results are in agreement with micro-textural features and chemical compositions of Alban Hills natural products and with the magmatic differentiation model inferred by geochemical data. Magma–carbonate interaction is not a rare process and its occurrence has been demonstrated for different plumbing systems. However, the uniqueness of the Alban Hills liquid line of descent suggests that the efficacy of the carbonate contamination process is controlled by different factors, the dynamics of the plumbing system being one of the most important.  相似文献

Analysis of 57Fe transmission Mössbauer spectra collected on a system where the proportional counter has been replaced with a silicon drift detector (SDD) to test milliprobing of mineral samples is described. In the region of the 14.4 keV Mössbauer line the detector has about 70% efficiency and is capable of delivering spectroscopic information with a high energy resolution and high counting rate. Satisfactory results are obtained from a phase analysis of mixtures of olivine and ilmenite in the proportion 97:3, 99:1 wt%, where in the latter case 2.4 μg of Fe3+ in the form of hematite was found in the ilmenite. New perovskite-type minerals (Pb1.33Ba0.67Fe2O5, Pb1.33Sr0.67Fe2O5 and Pb1.33Ba0.33Sr0.33Fe2O5), synthesised by a combustion method, were studied by X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy as well. The advantage of the system with SDD compared to a conventional Mössbauer spectrometer equipped with a proportional counter as a detector is demonstrated for the perovskite samples. The Mössbauer set-up with the silicon drift detector may be successfully used for a wide range of materials containing a negligible amount of iron.  相似文献

The occurrence of the freshwater genus Tanousia Servain 1881 (Hydrobiidae) in the Middle Pleistocene lacustrine succession of the Piànico-Sèllere Basin (Bergamo, Northern Italy) represents a significant biostratigraphical discovery. The Tanousia were recovered from the basal part of the carbonate varved bed (BVC), in siltysandy slump sediments, and from the lower and middle parts of the La Palazzina Member (MLP) of the Piànico formation. The BVC unit, in which a dated tephra layer occurs, accumulated during an interglacial phase, as shown by pollen analyses. The MLP Tanousia-bearing layers have been laid down during cool–temperate climate oscillation. The Piànico population of Tanousia displays great morphological variability but is similar to T. runtoniana (Sandberger, 1880), T. stenostoma (Nordmann, 1901) and T. cf. T. stenostoma (Nordmann, 1901), from the Bavelian and Cromerian interglacial deposits of late Early and early Middle Pleistocene age in Northern Europe. As for these species, the Tanousia population from Piànico appears to indicate fluvial conditions under a fully temperate climate.  相似文献

Soil respiration (SR) Wis one of the largest contributors of terrestrial CO_2 to the atmosphere.Environmental as well as physicochemical parameters influence SR and thus, different land use practices impact the emissions of soil CO_2. In this study, we measured SR, bi-monthly, over a one-year period in a terrace tea plantation, a forest tea plantation and a secondary forest, in a subtropical mountain area in Xishuangbanna, China. Along with the measurement of SR rates, soil characteristics for each of the land use systems were investigated. Soil respiration rates in the different land use systems did not differ significantly during the dry season, ranging from2.7±0.2 μmol m~(-2) s~(-1) to 2.8±0.2 μmol m~(-2) s~(-1). During the wet season, however, SR rates were significantly larger in the terrace tea plantation(5.4±0.5 μmol m~(-2)s~(-1)) and secondary forest(4.9±0.4 μmol m~(-2)s~(-1)) than in the forest tea plantation(3.7±0.2 μmol m~(-2) s~(-1)).This resulted in significantly larger annual soil CO_2 emissions from the terrace tea and secondary forest,than from the forest tea plantation. It is likely that these differences in the SR rates are due to the 0.5times lower soil organic carbon concentrations in thetop mineral soil in the forest tea plantation, compared to the terrace tea plantation and secondary forest.Furthermore, we suggest that the lower sensitivity to temperature variation in the forest tea soil is a result of the lower soil organic carbon concentrations. The higher SR rates in the terrace tea plantation were partly due to weeding events, which caused CO_2 emission peaks that contributed almost 10% to the annual CO_2 flux. Our findings suggest that moving away from heavily managed tea plantations towards low-input forest tea can reduce the soil CO_2 emissions from these systems. However, our study is a casestudy and further investigations and upscaling are necessary to show if these findings hold true at a landscape level.  相似文献
