Partial integer decorrelation: optimum trade-off between variance reduction and bias amplification 总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0
Different techniques have been developed for determining carrier phase ambiguities, ranging from float approximations to the
efficient solution of the integer least square problem by the LAMBDA method. The focus so far was on double-differenced measurements.
Practical implementations of the LAMBDA method lead to a residual probability of wrong fixing of the order one percent. For
safety critical applications, this probability had to be reduced by eight orders of magnitude, which could be achieved by
linear multi-frequency code–carrier combinations. Scenarios with single or no differences include biases due to orbit errors,
satellite clock offsets, as well as residual code and phase biases. For this case, a linear combination of Galileo E1 and
E5 code and carrier phase measurements with a wavelength of 3.285 m and a noise level of a few centimeters is derived. This
ionosphere-free combination preserves the orbit and clock errors, and suppresses the E1 code multipath by 12.6 dB. Since integer
decorrelation transformations, as used in the LAMBDA method, inflate biases, the number of such transformations must be limited,
and applied in a judicious order. With a Galileo type constellation, this leads to a vertical standard deviation of ca. 20 cm,
while keeping the probability of wrong fixing extremely low for code biases of 10 cm, and phase biases of 0.1 cycle, combined

A pore‐scale model based on measured particle size distributions has been used to quantify the changes in pore space geometry of packed soil columns resulting from a dilution in electrolyte concentration from 500 to 1 mmol l?1 NaCl during leaching. This was applied to examine the effects of particle release and re‐deposition on pore structure and hydraulic properties. Two different soils, an agricultural soil and a mining residue, were investigated with respect to the change in hydraulic properties. The mining residue was much more affected by this process with the water saturated hydraulic conductivity decreasing to 0·4% of the initial value and the air‐entry value changing from 20 to 50 cm. For agricultural soil, there was little detectable shift in the water retention curve but the saturated hydraulic conductivity decreased to 8·5% of the initial value. This was attributed to localized pore clogging (similar to a surface seal) affecting hydraulic conductivity, but not the microscopically measured pore‐size distribution or water retention. We modelled the soil structure at the pore scale to explain the different responses of the two soils to the experimental conditions. The size of the pores was determined as a function of deposited clay particles. The modal pore size of the agricultural soil as indicated by the constant water retention curve was 45 µm and was not affected by the leaching process. In the case of the mining residue, the mode changed from 75 to 45 µm. This reduction of pore size corresponds to an increase of capillary forces that is related to the measured shift of the water retention curve. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

Groundwater vulnerability assessment schemes are used for the estimation of potential groundwater contamination at different
scales and on different administrative levels. However, the term vulnerability is not standardized and the available methods
are not able to give a unique assessment of vulnerability creating thus uncertainty in the interpretation and in further application
concerning decision creation processes. To judge the information of vulnerability maps certainly and to value the general
trends of vulnerability assessment of different methods, four different vulnerability methods of the parametric system group
have been applied on a karst area in southwestern Germany to perform a comparative assessment and correlation of these vulnerability
assessment methods, namely DRASTIC, PI, EPIK, and GLA. It is shown that by means of simple statistical considerations the
first highly different vulnerability maps could be made more coherent after reclassification. The reclassified vulnerability
assessments show a more consistent vulnerability distribution pattern and provide the possibility of area-wide validation
of the maps as the chosen vulnerability classification is theoretically connected to the mean transit time of percolation
water and is largely independent of the applied vulnerability assessment method. 相似文献

A method is presented for selecting the optimal flight patterns for airbornemeteorological measurements in various flow situations. The method is basedon systematic utilisation of mesoscale model fields. Flow overan Arctic sea-ice boundary zone is modelled, and it is assumed that the mesoscale model fields represent the true state of the atmosphere, and that each possible flight pattern yields a different sample of the true fields. A plan for the basic structure of the flight pattern is assumed, and then the unexplained variance, i.e., the difference between the true variance and the sample variance, of a quantity of interest is calculated for a variety of possible flight patterns. Different target quantities are considered, such as wind speed, air temperature, and the turbulent fluxesof momentum and sensible heat. The optimal flight pattern is defined byminimisation of the unexplained variance, and often depends on the quantitywe are interested in. For sawtooth patterns, the optimal flight pattern was sensitive to the maximum ascent angle of the aircraft. In flight patterns designed for turbulence measurements, the optimal pattern was different for the unexplained variance of the turbulent fluxes and for the unexplained total heat content of the convective layer. 相似文献

In this paper, we compare different policy incentives for overcoming investment uncertainties that are typical for low-carbon technologies prior to their commercialisation, some of which may be attributable to market failures. The paper focuses on the particular case of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies and conducts a qualitative multi-criteria analysis of different public policy support schemes for CCS demonstration to evaluate their suitability. The assessed schemes include mandatory CCS, emission performance standards and several different financial incentives (in addition to the European Union Emission Trading Scheme). Based on the available literature and on experience in the UK and Germany with promotion instruments for low-carbon technologies, the results of our analysis suggest that two alternative schemes, a CCS bonus incentive or a carbon dioxide (CO2) price guarantee, perform best in comparison with the other assessed instruments. While they reduce the uncertainty of CCS investments in the face of low European Union Allowance prices, they also avoid significant adverse impacts on operational and investment decisions in electricity markets. 相似文献

A combination of four thermochronometers [zircon fission track (ZFT), zircon (U–Th)/He (ZHe), apatite fission track (AFT)
and apatite (U–Th–[Sm])/He (AHe) dating methods] applied to a valley to ridge transect is used to resolve the issues of metamorphic,
exhumation and topographic evolution of the Nízke Tatry Mts. in the Western Carpathians. The ZFT ages of 132.1 ± 8.3, 155.1 ± 12.9,
146.8 ± 8.6 and 144.9 ± 11.0 Ma show that Variscan crystalline basement of the Nízke Tatry Mts. was heated to temperatures
>210°C during the Mesozoic and experienced a low-grade Alpine metamorphic overprint. ZHe and AFT ages, clustering at ~55–40
and ~45–40 Ma, respectively, revealed a rapid Eocene cooling event, documenting erosional and/or tectonic exhumation related
to the collapse of the Carpathian orogenic wedge. This is the first evidence that exhumation of crystalline cores in the Western
Carpathians took place in the Eocene and not in the Cretaceous as traditionally believed. Bimodal AFT length distributions,
Early Miocene AHe ages and thermal modelling results suggest that the samples were heated to temperatures of ~55–90°C during
Oligocene–Miocene times. This thermal event may be related either to the Oligocene/Miocene sedimentary burial, or Miocene
magmatic activity and increased heat flow. This finding supports the concept of thermal instability of the Carpathian crystalline

Society’s needs for a network of in situ ocean observing systems cross many areas of earth and marine science. Here we review the science themes that benefit from data supplied from ocean observatories. Understanding from existing studies is fragmented to the extent that it lacks the coherent long-term monitoring needed to address questions at the scales essential to understand climate change and improve geo-hazard early warning. Data sets from the deep sea are particularly rare with long-term data available from only a few locations worldwide. These science areas have impacts on societal health and well-being and our awareness of ocean function in a shifting climate.Substantial efforts are underway to realise a network of open-ocean observatories around European Seas that will operate over multiple decades. Some systems are already collecting high-resolution data from surface, water column, seafloor, and sub-seafloor sensors linked to shore by satellite or cable connection in real or near-real time, along with samples and other data collected in a delayed mode. We expect that such observatories will contribute to answering major ocean science questions including: How can monitoring of factors such as seismic activity, pore fluid chemistry and pressure, and gas hydrate stability improve seismic, slope failure, and tsunami warning? What aspects of physical oceanography, biogeochemical cycling, and ecosystems will be most sensitive to climatic and anthropogenic change? What are natural versus anthropogenic changes? Most fundamentally, how are marine processes that occur at differing scales related?The development of ocean observatories provides a substantial opportunity for ocean science to evolve in Europe. Here we also describe some basic attributes of network design. Observatory networks provide the means to coordinate and integrate the collection of standardised data capable of bridging measurement scales across a dispersed area in European Seas adding needed certainty to estimates of future oceanic conditions. Observatory data can be analysed along with other data such as those from satellites, drifting floats, autonomous underwater vehicles, model analysis, and the known distribution and abundances of marine fauna in order to address some of the questions posed above. Standardised methods for information management are also becoming established to ensure better accessibility and traceability of these data sets and ultimately to increase their use for societal benefit. The connection of ocean observatory effort into larger frameworks including the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) and the Global Monitoring of Environment and Security (GMES) is integral to its success. It is in a greater integrated framework that the full potential of the component systems will be realised. 相似文献
