Orientation studies over the Sarpda? prospect in the Biga peninsula and the Arapdagi deposit near Izmir have provided elear evidence for elemental dispersion around west Turkish gold prospects. Although these deposits are of different types, silicification associated with the deposits results in the main part of both deposits forming topographic highs. At Sarpda? gold mineralisation is relatively weak compared with nearby prospects and associated with a silicified cap on the main hill. Comparison of coarse and fine fractions, based on a 190 μm size split of 8 kg of -2 mm material, suggests that gold disperses clastically on the steep slopes, probably within silica, but coarse grains break down giving Au concentrations in the finer fractions at the base of the main slope. Discrete gold grains, that can be panned, only occur 1–2 km downstream within the streams and heavy mineral concentrations are very limited. This interpretation of Au dispersion is consistent with the data from 1 kg samples collected at the higher primary grade, but more contaminated, Arapda?i prospect.Antimony is the most consistent pathfinder both for the silicified cap at Sarpda? and for gold-rich veins at Arpada?i. It gives high contrast anomalies. Arsenic is useful being more mobile than Sb, although contrast may be low. High resolution Ag data can be useful but base metal enrichments are also often associated with Ag anomalies. Most prospects have some base metal enrichments although they can be displaced from the main gold-rich parts of the deposit and anomalies may be weak. Lead and Cu are the more consistently useful elements. The use of large (> 8 kg of -2 mm material) samples produces consistent stream sediment data that can be used to reliably interpret single samples and quantify Au anomalies. A survey around the Halíköy Hg and Emirli Sb mines, using these large samples, confirmed the extension of the known gold-bearing Emirli structure. In contrast the major Hg-bearing Halíköy Fault is gold poor although a structure parallel to it is auriferous. 相似文献
We compute the interannual fluctuations of the surface heat budget of the North Atlantic using the trimmed monthly summaries of the Comprehensive Ocean-Atmosphere DataSet (COADS) for the period 1950–1979. The presence of long-period trends in the heat budget imply large variations of the northward cross-equatorial heat transport over the years. To assess the reliability of these variations, we compare the COADS climate signal to that derived from the ocean weather stations (OWSs) of the North Atlantic. The sea surface temperature, air temperature and sea level pressure show good correlation between the anomaly time series derived from the merchant ship monthly summaries of COADS, and those derived from OWS monthly summaries, except for northernmost locations during winter. In contrast, the sensible and latent heat parameters, which require simultaneous measurements of various variables, have merchant ships and ocean weather stations anomaly time series that are poorly correlated. Only in heavily travelled latitudes and during winter, when the air-sea heat exchange anomalies are large, are the merchant ship measurements able to reproduce the interannual fluctuations of the heat fluxes. The long-period trends in the surface heat budget of North Atlantic equatorward of 40° N implied by COADS thus appear unrepresentative of true climate trends. The COADS trends result from a gradual increase in the magnitude of the reported winds over the years due probably to variations in the ratio of measured to estimated winds, as well as from long period fluctuations in the near surface vertical temperature and humidity gradients.

The metamorphic rocks of the Jutogh Series around Simla, structurally overlying the less metamorphosed rock groups along a thrust contact, have been involved in three phases of deformation and two episodes of metamorphism. The first metamorphism is in the albite-epidote-amphibolite facies in a major part of the area, reaching the amphibolite facies locally in the central part. This metamorphism is late-to post-kinematic with reference to the F1 movement, the thermal peak having been reached in a post-F1 pre-F2 static phase. The second metamorphism, syn-to post-tectonic with respect to F2 but preceding F3, is generally in the greenschist facies, and only locally in the albite-epidote-amphibolite facies in the higher structural levels. Metamorphic overprinting has caused widespread retrogression and disequilibrium assemblages. As the large scale recumbent folding and thrusting of F1 and F2 phases belong to the Tertiary Himalayan orogeny, the metamorphism in the Jutogh Series could not have been Precambrian in age. 相似文献
Luna 16 sample B-1 was the largest fragment (62 mg) obtained in the sample exchange with the USSR. Petrologic, mineralogic, and chemical investigations have been made on this fragment in conjunction with Rb-Sr and40Ar/39Ar investigations by our colleagues. Sample B-1 is a fine-grained ophitic basalt but is distinguished from the Apollo samples by containing a single pyroxene, predominantly pigeonitic, an ilmenite content (7%) intermediate to that of the Apollo 11 and 12 samples, and subequal amounts of pyroxene (50%) and plagioclase (40%). Chemically it is distinguished by a high Sr content (437 ppm) and a high K/U value (4700). The K-content (1396 ppm) is higher than that of Luna 16 soil sample A-2. 相似文献
Jaeger, C., 1973. Engineering problems and rock mechanics: some examples. Eng. Geol., 7: 333–358.
The purpose of this paper is to show how rock mechanics interprets geologic information and helps to adapt engineering design to rock conditions. The paper analyses eight case histories of large engineering projects. In five cases the designers took careful account of the conditions prevailing in the rock masses, the rock characteristics, the strength of the rock and the modified stress—strain pattern created by the new structure. The intrinsic curve of the rock mass, the Coulomb condition, the residual stresses and theE-modulus in the families of joints are among the more important characteristics of the rock mass. In two case histories, it is shown how an erroneous estimate of the cleft-water pressures caused disaster.
Rock mechanics is a necessary link between engineering and geology. 相似文献
Hot water effluent from power stations kills juvenile menhaden migrating through Long Island Sound. Since the fish sink to the bottom, losses are unrecorded or at best under-estimated. Other fish are probably also affected. Menhaden in Long Island Sound contribute to the commercial fishery off the eastern seaboard of the United States. At present the losses have little impact on the fishery, but if the projected increase in hot water discharges into the Sound materializes the consequences may be serious. 相似文献
