The tridiurnal wave in cosmic-ray intensity expected from a free space anisotropy is theoretically calculated for different cosmic-ray stations which are characterized by different shapes of asymptotic cones of acceptance. The amplitude A and the time of maximum Tmax are given for latitude dependence of the form cosn λ and rigidity dependence of the form Rβ exp (?(R?1R0)), where λ and R are the latitude and rigidity respectively and n, β, R0 are constants. The values of A and Tmax, are calculated for different values of n, β and R0 for each station. The dependence of A and Tmax on the anisotropy parameters is studied for the proper selection of cosmic-ray stations whose data may be used in determining these parameters.Available experimental data were used to find the observed amplitudes of the tridiurnal variations at five stations using power spectrum analysis with hanning applied on the averaged trains. Minimum variance analysis of the theoretical and experimental amplitudes showed that β has a value between 1 and 2, R0 greater than 100 GV and n smaller than 3.  相似文献

The scattering and absorption properties of Axel dust were investigated by means of Mie theory. We find that a flat distribution of particle radii between 0 and 0.1 μm, and an imaginary part of the index of refraction which varies as λ?2.5 produce a good fit to the variation of Titan's geometric albedo with wavelength (λ) provided that τext, the extinction optical depth of Titan's atmosphere at 5000 Å, is about 10. The real part of the complex index is taken to be 2.0. The model assumes that the mixing ratio of Axel dust to gas is uniform above the surface of Titan. The same set of physical properties for Axel dust also produces a good fit to Saturn's albedo if τext = 0.7 at 5000 Å. To match the increase in albedo shortward of 3500 Å, a clear layer (containing about 7 km-am H2) is required above the Axel dust. Such a layer is also required to explain the limb brightening in the ultraviolet. These models can be used to analyze the observed equivalent widths of the visible methane bands. The analysis yields an abundance of the order of 1000 m-am CH4 in Titan's atmosphere. The derived CH4/H2 mixing ratio for Saturn is about 3.5 × 10?3 or an enhancement of about 5 over the solar ratio.  相似文献

Mariner 9 ultraviolet spectra of the 1971 dust clouds were analyzed to obtain the phase function times single scattering albedo of the dust particles. The phase functions were matched with Mie scattering calculations for size distributions of spheres of homogeneous and isotropic material. The absorption index of the dust particles was found to increase with decreasing wavelenght from 350 nm down to about 210 nm, and drop off shortward of this wavelength. A structural shoulder occurs in the absorption spectrum between 240 and 250 nm. Titanium dioxide (anatase) has the correct transitions at 210 and 250 nm to match the absorption curve of Martian dust, and is proposed as a candidate constituent in Martian surface material. The spectral neutrality of TiO2 between 0.5 and 4 μm is consistent with visible and infrared observations of Mars. The high refractive index of TiO2 can explain the large refringence of Martian dust. The titanium dioxide content of the dust particles is estimated to be a few percent or less. Uncertainties in the results due to limitations in the model and data are discussed.  相似文献

Detailed studies of the daytime E-region critical frequency at Aberystwyth (geomagnetic latitude +56°) show clear evidence for changes associated with both the axially-symmetric (Dst) and asymmetric (DS) components of the disturbance magnetic field. Comparison of the sensitivity of the E-region peak density to these two influences shows that the changes cannot entirely (if at all) be ascribed to the influence of electric currents in the region. It is suggested that a major role is played by dynamical influences associated with the neutral air “storm circulation” which distributes the energy fed into the auroral region to lower latitudes.  相似文献

In order to study the structure of a chemically homogeneous star in equilibrium, a density profile of the form T N exp(–µm(–)/kT) is suggested. As for polytropes, qualitative aspects of the resulting stellar model can be discussed analytically. In particular it is shown that one reobtains forN=3 Eddington's standard model, whereas forN<3 nearly polytropic models result. WhenN>3, the effective polytropic index does vary appreciably over the star. Numerical results indicate that the proposed density profile is quite reasonable in view of the simplicity of the model. From a comparison of the degree of precision of a polytropic approximation with that of the newly proposed model it follows that the new approximation is definitely better than the polytropic one. We present a relatively completeV-band light curve of SZ Psc for 1978 and a partial light curve for 1977. From the 1978 light curve we derive a new time of primary minimum, JD2443823.674±0.001, and a Russell-model solution,i=75°.8±0°.1,r h =0.096±0.003,r c =0.351±0.001, andL h =0.253±0.002. The hotter component of this system is a F5-8 main-sequence star, the cooler component a K3-4 star well above the main sequence. The system is detached with the larger component filling only 82% of its Roche lobe. The distortion wave in this RS CVn-type binary seems not to migrate regularly as do those in many other such systems, but rather seems to change phase and amplitude more erratically. Between 1977 and 1978 its phase stayed practically constant while its amplitude decreased by a factor of three. We discuss the implications of this behavior for the spot model of RS CVn-type activity. We find that the traditional comparison star for SZ Psc, HD 219018, is very likely a constant star contrary to a recent suggestion that it is variable. The linear stochastic hydrodynamical equations of the radiation-matter-one-component fluid in the Universe before the recombination era are solved. The stochastic forces in the heat flux and the viscous stress tensor are described according the procedure of Landau and Lifshitz. In the case of a low density universe, where the effects of the thermal conductivity can be neglected with respect to the shear viscosity, we find analytical solutions of the dispersion relation for the different modes and of the density correlation function . At the very Jeans length, this density correlation function exhibits a linear (for very large times) or a cubic (for small times) time dependence instead of a frozen-in character of this special mode.  相似文献

Unlike the well-known solution of constant coordinate mass density, these solutions pertain to realistic physical situations. The laboratory simulation experiments on volatilization from the melts formed due to micrometeoroid impacts on the lunar surface were carried out. The simulation was performed using modulated laser pulses incident on rocks and minerals in vacuum; in so doing microcraters on the targets, glass particles, condensates were formed and gases solved in the bulk of the rock and mineral grains were released. It is shown that volatilization from only the crater glass layers is negligible, which fully confirms the theoretical predictions of Nussinov and Chernyak.The volatilizations from the drops formed by the micrometeoric impacts can be noticeable. For micron-sized drops, predominant among the others after the impact, the volatilization of Na, K and other volatiles can be up to 10 to 20%. For larger-sized (d102 m) drops the volatilization should lead to the appearance of the significant gradients of the element concentrations over the particle cross-section and as a result of their normalization it leads to the surface enrichment by some elements (Si and others).The mechanism of dust formation due to the surface rocks attack by volatilizing alkaline metals (Naughtonet al.) on the Moon probably is not effective. It is the consequence of such a fact that the condensate of the target materials evaporated due to other simultaneous micrometeoric impacts and had the same (as the target has) elemental composition is the very strong background for volatilizing and condensating alkaline elements.Preliminary conclusions about a possible correlation between the composition and the sizes of dust particles in the Solar system and in the Universe (at similar initial composition) have been drawn.  相似文献
