Doppler images are presented for the RS CVn-type binary ζ And. Our upgraded Doppler imaging code TempMapε takes into account the distorted geometry of the primary giant component. On the maps several low latitude spots are restored with a temperature contrast of about 1000 K. Some weak polar features are also found. Cross-correlation of the consecutive Doppler-maps suggests solar-like differential surface rotation.  相似文献

Three successive Mesozoic neptunian dyke generations and related unconformities suggest recurrent extensional fracturing and periods of relative sea-level rise along the NW Trento Plateau margin in the Southern Alps, Italy. The first neptunian dyke generation was induced by NNW–SSE directed extension of Early Jurassic skeletal oolitic periplatform deposits generating micritic early Middle Liassic neptunian dykes with orthogonal orientation. The second generation of neptunian dykes was possibly caused by marginal extension at the drowned platform edge penetrating Late Jurassic, red pelagic limestones with a pelagic matrix of Albian/Cenomanian age and nearly orthogonal fracture orientation. The third generation of neptunian dykes occurred after a prolonged period of submarine exposure and erosion (Aptian/Albian to Late Maastrichtian) during the rapid burial of the submarine Trento Plateau margin relief. The Late Maastrichtian neptunian dykes were caused by extension of Early to Middle Jurassic oolitic periplatform limestones along steep (inclination > 10°) submarine slopes. Generally successive neptunian dyke generations along drowned carbonate platform margins could be caused by repeated extensional brittle fracturing of lithified periplatform deposits and the filling of micritic matrix derived from overlying pelagic sediment sequences under substantial hydrostatic pressure. This would suggest that recurrent extensional fracturing is continuously recorded by neptunian dyke formation which could be used to indicate extensional tectonic activity at a foundering deep-marine carbonate platform edge.  相似文献

The solutions of a radially symmetrical solar wind model with thermal conductivity are discussed in the neighborhood of the loci of the critical points, called the critical line, and at infinity. It is shown that for constant mass and total energy flux the conditions at infinity are related uniquely to the conditions at the critical line. Flux density spectra have been determined for ninety-one simple type III solar bursts observed by the Goddard Space Flight Center radio astronomy experiment on the IMP-6 spacecraft during 1971 and 1972. Spectral peaks were found to occur at frequencies ranging from 44 kHz up to 2500 kHz. Half of the bursts peaked between 250 kHz and 900 kHz, corresponding to emission at solar distances of about 0.3 to 0.1 AU. Maximum burst flux density sometimes exceeds 10–14 W m–2 Hz–1. The primary factor controlling the spectral peak frequency of these bursts appears to be variation in intrinsic power radiated by the source as the exciter moves outward from the Sun, rather than radio propagation effects between the source and IMP-6. Thus, a burst spectrum strongly reflects the evolution of the properties of the exciting electron beam, and according to current theory, beam deceleration could help account for the observations.  相似文献

Remarks on the Definition and Estimation of Friction Velocity   总被引:3,自引:1,他引:2  
One of the mainscaling parameters in similarity theory of the atmospheric boundary layer is friction velocity. Unfortunately, several definitions of friction velocity exist in the literature. Some authors use the component of the horizontal Reynolds stress vector in the direction of the mean wind vector to define friction velocity. Others define the friction velocity by means of the absolute value of the horizontal Reynolds stress vector. The two definitions coincide only if the direction of the mean wind vector is parallel to the horizontal Reynolds stress vector. In general, the second definition gives larger values for the friction velocity. Over complex terrain the situation is further complicated by the fact that the terrain following flow is not necessarily horizontal. Thus, several authors have proposed to use terrain following coordinate systems for the definition of friction velocity. By means of a large dataset of fast-response wind measurements with an ultrasonic anemometer the friction velocities resulting from the different definitions are compared. Furthermore, it is shown that friction velocity can be well estimated from horizontal wind speed, and even better from simple horizontal or vertical turbulence parameters.  相似文献

Computer-assisted enhancement of scanned historical airphotos demonstrates successful detection and mapping of subsurface archaeological features. Results show a locally adaptive contrast enhancement filter produced the best resolution of lineaments. Such enhancements can enable reconstruction of protohistoric architecture despite modern construction. The city-state of Idalion is used here as a case study to demonstrate enhancement. Results are confirmed by excavation of Idalion architecture. Idalion was a thriving metropolis during Cypro-Archaic to Roman times, surrounded by a 9.6 km defensive wall. The area within may still contain significant amounts of unmapped architecture. Some of this architecture was mapped previously from aerial photographs using manual interpretation techniques, but never excavated as proof of detection. Guided by enhanced imagery, our excavations confirmed the location of five towers/bastions along the city wall. Enhanced airphotos also revealed a region disturbed by contemporary construction of a water pipeline. Such information is important to archaeologists planning digs, and can be acquired using standard digital image processing techniques. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献
