Hα observations, using the Multichannel Subtractive Double Pass (MSDP) spectrograph operating on the Meudon Solar Tower, have been made of an active region filament which undergoes a ‘disparition brusque’. The period of observation was from 10 ∶ 45 to 13 ∶ 30 UT on 22 June, 1981. Velocity and intensity fluctuations in Hα were measured. The proper motions of ejecta were followed allowing their trajectories and vector velocities to be determined. To model the dynamics of ejecta several models using thermal or magnetic driving forces are compared. The most promising model explains the motion as the consequence of magnetic stresses acting on an isolated magnetized plasmoïd in a diverging flux tube. 相似文献

Late Eocene crystal-bearing spherules have been found in deep sea cores from the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, equatorial Pacific Ocean, and eastern equatorial Indian Ocean. Keller et al. (1987) have suggested that the spherules from the western equatorial Pacific (Site 292, core 38) and eastern Indian Ocean (Site 216) are older (Globigerapsis semiinvoluta Zone) than those from the central equatorial Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea (Globorotalia cerroazulensis Zone). The strongest argument in favor of two layers is the biostratigraphic data; however, published biostratigraphic interpretations are at odds with Keller et al.'s (1987) conclusions. Furthermore, paleomagnetic data for Site 292 seems to contradict Keller et al.'s conclusion that the spherules found in core 36 occur in sediments of the same stratigraphic age as those found in the central equatorial Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea sites. Although the spherules from Sites 216 and 292 (core 38) do have higher average CaO, and lower average Al2O3 and FeO contents than the late Eocene spherules from the other sites, there is a great deal of overlap in composition. It is our opinion that the similarities in composition and petrography between the late Eocene crystal-bearing spherules are greater than the differences. Additionally, there seems to be a systematic change in composition and in amount of iridium excess from east to west when all the sites containing the crystal-bearing spherules are considered. We believe, therefore, that it is likely that the late Eocene crystal-bearing spherules all belong to a single event. 相似文献

Magnitudes of comets P/Giacobini-Zinner (1984e), P/Halley (1982i), P/Hartley-Good (1985 1), and Thiele (1985 m) in the bandpasses of the standard IHW comet filters are presented. For comet P/Halley production rates for CN, C3, C2, and solids were derived. For the gaseous components these show a strong dependence on heliocentric distance. The dependence is less steep for the solids which may be due to relatively pronounced backscattering properties in case of comet P/Halley. During one night (1985 Dec. 22/23) intensity profiles along three sections through the coma of comet P/Halley were measured. The time dependences of the inertia tensor and of a dissipative torque caused by the nonleptonic weak interaction have been investigated for a certain class of pulsars with no solid core. Early in the life of the pulsar, the angular velocity vector is predicted to move with respect to fixed body axes in such a way that it becomes perpendicular to the magnetic dipole moment. During this motion, the solid outer shell suffers plastic deformation so that the dipole moment becomes approximately collinear with a principal axis. After 104 or 105 yr, the dissipative torque is negligibly small compared with the electromagnetic torque, the Euler equations are those for a simple rigid body, and alignment of spin and dipole moment occurs. If the dipole moment discussed by Lyneet al. (1975) is interpreted as being equal to the component perpendicular to the spin, its secular decay is a natural property of this model and is not a consequence of field decay through electrical resistivity. 相似文献

The nature of the drainage system beneath ice sheets is crucial to their dynamic behaviour but remains problematic. An experimentally based theory of coupling between groundwater and major channel systems is applied to the esker systems in the area occupied the last ice sheet in Europe, which we regard as a fossil imprint of major longitudinal drainage channels. We conclude that the large-scale distribution and spacing of major eskers is consistent with the theory of groundwater control, in which esker spacing is partly controlled by the transmissivity of the bed.It is concluded that esker patterns reflect the large-scale organisation of the subglacial drainage pattern in which channel development is coupled to groundwater flow and to the ice sheet's dynamic regime. The theory is then used to deduce: basal meltwater recharge rates and their spatial variability from esker spacing in an area in which the ice sheet was actively streaming during its final retreat; patterns of palaeo-groundwater flow and head distribution; and the seasonally varying magnitude of discharge from stream tunnels at the retreating ice sheet margin. Major channel/esker systems appear to have been stable at least over several hundred of years during the retreat of the ice sheet, although major dynamic events are demonstrably associated with major shifts in the hydraulic regime.Modelling suggests: that glaciation can stimulate deep groundwater circulation cells that are spatially linked to channel locations, with groundwater flow predominantly transverse to ice flow; that the circulation pattern has the potential to create large-scale anomalies in groundwater chemistry; and that the spacing of channels will change through the glacial cycle, influencing water pressures in stream tunnels, subglacial hydraulic gradients and effective pressure. If the latter is reduced sufficiently, it could trigger enhanced bed deformation, thus coupling drainage to ice sheet movement. It suggests the possibility of distinctive phases of sediment deformation and drumlin mobilisation during a glacial cycle. 相似文献
