Petrography, petrochemistry, and mineral chemistry of basalts from the Woodlark, Manus, and Lau basins from the southwest
Pacific, have been studied to understand their magmatic evolution. Basalt from the western Woodlark Basin (Dobu Seamount)
indicates mixing of a near-primitive magma with fractionated basaltic melt in shallow magma chambers. Basalts from Manus Basin
and Central Lau Spreading Center (Lau Basin) are typical N-MORBs, and they exhibit olivine fractionation under high oxidizing
conditions while basalts from Mangatolu Triple Junction (Lau Basin) are enriched in Al2O3, K2O, and Zr indicative of a contribution from a subducting plate.

An analysis procedure in the frequency domain is developed for determining the earthquake response of two-dimensional concrete gravity and embankment dams including hydrodynamic effects; responses of the elastic dams and compressible water are assumed linear. The dam and fluid domain are treated as substructures and modelled with finite elements. The only geometric restriction is that an infinite fluid domain must maintain a constant depth beyond some point in the upstream direction. For such an infinite uniform region, a finite element discretization over the depth is combined with a continuum representation in the upstream direction. The fluid domain model approximately accounts for interaction between the fluid and underlying foundation medium through a damping boundary condition applied along the reservoir bottom, while the dam foundation is assumed rigid. Several examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy of the fluid domain model and to illustrate dam responses obtained from the analysis procedure. 相似文献
Palaeomagnetic, geochemical and geochronological studies have been conducted on a set of dolerite dykes intruding the Peninsular
gneisses near Huliyurdurga town, Karnataka, as a reconnaissance survey indicated a Cretaceous age for them. The dykes are
mainly tholeiitic in composition with their 87Sr/86Sr ratios tightly clustered around 0·7045. Their palaeomagnetic data (Dm=329°,Im=−55°) and the corresponding palaeopole coordinates (λp = 34°S,Lp=108°E) are strikingly close to those of the Deccan Traps to the north. Whole rock K-Ar ages of these dykes ranging between
69 and 84 Ma are also similar to the range of K-Ar ages of the Deccan basalts. The chemical, palaeomagnetic and temporal coherence
between the dykes and the Deccan basalts indicate that they may indeed be tectonically related events. 相似文献
The Southern Ocean (SO) plays a critical role in global ocean productivity and carbon cycling. Bio-Argo floats deployed in the Indian sector of the Southern Ocean provides new insights into the biogeochemical processes. Here we report significantly higher dissolved oxygen(DO) (~?310 μmol/kg) in summer of 2014–2015 for one float (F1) and winter of 2014 in other float (F2) at sub-surface layer in the subantarctic region of the SO. The summer DO peak in F1 was 10% higher than those during the summer of succeeding year, while the winter DO peak in F2 was 20% higher than those during the winter of succeeding year. Temperature and dynamic height structure show that cyclonic eddies play an important role in the observed increase in the dissolved oxygen: the high DO is a manifestation of the co-occurrence of a cold core eddy which transported the cold oxygen rich water from deep to the surface during winter, while, during summer, the high chlorophyll below the mixed layer depth (MLD) also contributed to the elevated DO. Low apparent oxygen utilisation suggests that the observed high oxygen concentration was due to high production rates over the consumption.
A study was conducted in the Bathinda district of Punjab state for mapping the cropping pattern and crop rotation, monitoring
long term changes in cropping pattern by using the satellite based remote sensing data along other spatial and non-spatial
collateral data. Multi-date IRS LISS I and IRS WiFS sensor data have been used for this study. Cropping pattern maps and crop
rotation maps were generated for the years 1988-89 and 1998-99. The present study has shown the increase of cropping intensity
significantly, mainly due to increase in rice area. However, crop diversity has decreased mainly due to decline in the area
under the minor crops like pearl millet, gram, rapeseed/ mustard. There is increase in area coverage of cotton-wheat and rice-wheat
rotation, at the expense of the minor crops. 相似文献
