ABSTRACT

The aim of this article is to offer an insight into the hydrology of southeast Romanian catchments, which have not been studied systematically. The complex behaviour of the Tai?a, one of the most important rivers situated in the northern part of Dobrogea, is demonstrated. Long-range dependence (LRD) in the time series of its streamflow, including the presence of trends, is supported by an estimated Hurst exponent of approximately 0.8, as well as statistical tests.

Based on the material of long-term spectrophotometric observations of Jupiter, we studied the weak absorption bands of ammonia at 645 and 878 nm, whose behavior had previously been little studied. A clearly expressed depression of ammonia absorption in the 787-nm band was found in the Northern Equatorial Belt (NEB) of Jupiter. In the Great Red Spot, this band also exhibits substantial weakening. The position of the depression in the NEB is similar to that of the enhanced brightness temperature detected in the observations of the millimeter-wave radio emission, which is considered to be a result of the reduced ammonia content in this belt. At the same time, the weakening of the 787-nm band in the Red Spot is most likely caused by the enhanced bulk density of clouds, which influences the formation of absorption bands in the multiple scattering by cloud particles. The brightness temperature in the Red Spot is relatively low, as seen from observations in the radio and thermal IR ranges. We studied the spatial and temporal variations of the 645- and 787-nm bands in five belts of Jupiter: the Equatorial Zone (EZ), both Equatorial Belts (SEB and NEB), and both Tropical Zones (STZ and NTZ). The observations covered the time interval from 2005 to 2015, i.e., almost a complete orbital period of Jupiter. These observations confirmed the systematic character of the depression of the 787-nm band in the NEB and the difference in the latitudinal variations of the 645- and 787-nm bands. The latter can be related to features of the vertical distribution of the cloud density, which has a different influence on bands of different intensity.  相似文献

Melt and fluid inclusions were studied in the minerals of Cenozoic olivine melanephelinites from the Chukchi Peninsula, Russia.The rock contain several generations of olivine phenocrysts varying in composition at mg=0.88~0.77.The phenocrysts bear fluid and melt inclusions recording various stages of melt crystallization in volcanic conduits and shallow magma chambers.Primary fluid inclusions are CO_2-dominated with a density of up to O.93 g/cm~3.All fluid inclusions are partially leaked,which is indicated by haloes of tiny fluid bubbles around large fluid inclusions in minerals.Melt inclusions contain various daughter crystals,which were completely resorbed in thermometric experiments at about 1230℃.Assuming that this temperature corresponds to the entrapment conditions of the CO_2 fluid inclusions,the minimum pressure of the beginning of magma degassing is estimated as 800MPa.Variations in the compositions of homogenized silicate melt inclusions indicate that olivine was the earliest crystalline phase followed by clinopyroxene,nepheline and orthoclase.This sequence is in agreement with the mineralogy of the rocks.The melts are strongly enriched in incompatible trace elements and volatiles(in addition to CO_2,high C1,F,and S contents were detected).There are some differences between the compositions of melts trapped in minerals from different samples.Variations in SiO_2,FeO,and incompatible element contents are probably related to melt generations at various levels in a homogeneous mantle reservoir.  相似文献

There has been a longstanding debate about the nature of the 1908 Tunguska event. Many eyewitness accounts were collected more than half of a century after the event. Among these are many second‐hand oral accounts after the generation of eyewitnesses faded away. However, several years ago, two valuable publications appeared containing first‐hand eyewitness accounts collected by a Russian ethnographer, Sev'yan Vainshtein, during an expedition to the settlement of Sulomay in 1948. This paper presents additional details of these accounts, based on the author's discussions with Vainshtein before he died in 2008, and demonstrates how these accounts shed new light on what happened in Tunguska in June 1908.  相似文献

Lake El'gygytgyn, located in central Chukotka, Russian Arctic, was the subject of an international drilling project that resulted in the recovery of the longest continuous palaeoclimatic and palaeoenvironmental record for the terrestrial Arctic covering the last 3.6 million years. Here, we present the reconstruction of the lake‐level fluctuations of Lake El'gygytgyn since Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 7 based on lithological and palynological as well as chronological studies of shallow‐water sediment cores and subaerial lake terraces. Reconstructed lake levels show an abrupt rise during glacial–interglacial terminations (MIS 6/5 and MIS 2/1) and during the MIS 4/3 stadial–interstadial transition. The most prominent lowstands occurred during glacial periods associated with a permanent lake‐ice cover (namely MIS 6, MIS 4 and MIS 2). Major triggering mechanisms of the lake‐level fluctuations at Lake El'gygytgyn are predominantly changes in air temperature and precipitation. Regional summer temperatures control the volume of meltwater supply as well as the duration of the lake‐ice cover (permanent or seasonal). The duration of the lake‐ice cover, in turn, enables or hampers near‐shore sediment transport, thus leading to long‐term lake‐level oscillations on glacial–interglacial time scales by blocking or opening the lake outflow, respectively. During periods of seasonal ice cover the lake level was additionally influenced by changes in precipitation. The discovered mechanism of climatologically driven level fluctuations of Lake El'gygytgyn are probably valid for large hydrologically open lakes in the Arctic in general, thus helping to understand arctic palaeohydrology and providing missing information for climate modelling.  相似文献

River channel patterns are thought to form a morphological continuum. This continuum is two-dimensional, defined by plan features of which there are three (straight, meandering, branching), and structural levels of fluvial relief of which there are also three (floodplain, flood channel, low-water channel). Combinations of these three categories define the diversity of patterns. One of the most important factors in channel development is stream power, defined by water discharge and river slope. The greater the stream power, the stronger the branching tendency, but threshold values of stream power are different for the three different hierarchical levels of channel relief. The critical stream power values and hydrological regime together define the channel pattern, and analysis of the pattern type can be undertaken using effective discharge curves. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A new structure element of the Arctic ionosphere has been detected from the data of topside sounding of the ionosphere: quasi-vertical walls of high-density plasma. The importance of studying this phenomenon for geophysics and the practice of radio wave propagation in high latitudes is noted. The Arktika-M hydrometeorological space complex with an onboard ionosonde is proposed for its study. The possibility of observing and analyzing all life-cycle phases of this ionospheric inhomogeneity is shown.  相似文献

The Selenga River is the main artery feeding Lake Baikal. It has a catchment of ~450000 km² in the boundary region between Northern Mongolia and Southern Siberia. Climate, land use and dynamic socioeconomic changes go along with rising water abstractions and contaminant loads originating from mining sites and urban wastewater. In the future, these pressures might have negative impacts on the ecosystems of Lake Baikal and the Selenga River Delta, which is an important wetland region in itself and forms the last geobiochemical barrier before the Selenga drains into Lake Baikal. The following study aims to assess current trends in hydrology and water quality in the Selenga-Baikal basin, identify their drivers and to set up models (WaterGAP3 framework and ECOMAG) for the prediction of future changes. Of particular relevance for hydrological and water quality changes in the recent past were climate and land use trends as well as contaminant influx from mining areas and urban settlements. In the near future, additional hydrological modifications due to the construction of dams and abstractions/water diversions from the Selenga’s Mongolian tributaries could lead to additional alterations.  相似文献
