The porphyritic quartz diorites of the Caledonian Brabant Massif have been totally altered. Ca, Rb, Sr, Zr, Ce, Y measurements and Sr-Nd isotopic analyses were performed on the Quenast plug and the Lessines sill, in an attempt to study the relative mobility of Sr and evaluate the extent, direction and magnitude of the 87Sr/86Sr alterations. Sr electron microprobe analyses of epidote were also carried out to assess its role in the Sr distribution.The initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio is shown to have had an unsteady behaviour during the studied water/rock interactions since it has been sometimes enhanced, sometimes depressed and occasionally not modified. The possibility and magnitude of the 87Sr contamination turn out to be strictly related to the degree of Sr accommodation in the secondary minerals. Epidote in particular has proved to be the main trap for the hydrothermal Sr and this mineral is thus regarded as the major controlling factor of 87Sr hydrothermal contamination. The epidote-poor rocks (albite+chlorite-rich rocks) seem to have been unaffected by any Sr interchange with the aqueous solutions. Therefore, as alteration quickly follows the crystallization of the magma, their initial 87Sr/ 86Sr ratio, which is deduced from an isochron, might be a primary petrogenetic feature enabling interpretation of the genesis of their parental magmas. On the other hand, in the epidote-rich rocks, this ratio has been readily altered; it could thus generally be used only to trace the origin of the hydrothermal solutions. Data collected during the french VOVES-1977 experiment are used for the determination of the functionsA() andB() of the stability parameter . It is found that, although pertaining to different geographic conditions, they lead to the same kind of dependency ofA andB upon as found previously considered data. The influence of baroclinicity onA andB is also studied and it is found in that, statistically, consideration of this parameter does not lead either to a decrease of the large scatter of experimental points or to a significant improvement of the similarity theory. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) can be a valuable CO2 mitigation option, but what role CCS will play in the future is uncertain. In this paper we analyze the results of different integrated assessment models (IAMs) taking part in the 27th round of the Energy Modeling Forum (EMF) with respect to the role of CCS in long term mitigation scenarios. Specifically we look into the use of CCS as a function of time, mitigation targets, availability of renewables and its use with different fuels. Furthermore, we explore the possibility to relate model results to general and CCS specific model assumptions. The results show a wide range of cumulative capture in the 2010–2100 period (600–3050 GtCO2), but the fact that no model projects less than 600 GtCO2 indicates that CCS is considered to be important by all these models. Interestingly, CCS storage rates are often projected to be still increasing in the second half of this century. Depending on the scenario, at least six out of eight, up to all models show higher storage rates in 2100 than in 2050. CCS shares in cumulative primary energy use are in most models increasing with the stringency of the target or under conservative availability of renewables. The strong variations of CCS deployment projection rates could not be related to the reported differences in the assumptions of the models by means of a cross-model comparison in this sample. 相似文献

A rotating, acoustic gas bubble detector, BOB (Bubble OBservatory) module was deployed during two surveys, conducted in 2009 and 2011 respectively, to study the temporal variations of gas emissions from the Marmara seafloor, along the North Anatolian Fault zone. The echosounder mounted on the instrument insonifies an angular sector of 7° during a given duration (of about 1 h). Then it rotates to the next, near-by angular sector and so forth. When the full angular domain is insonified, the “pan and tilt system” rotates back to its initial position, in order to start a new cycle (of about 1 day). The acoustic data reveal that gas emission is not a steady process, with observed temporal variations ranging between a few minutes and 24 h (from one cycle to the other). Echo-integration and inversion performed on the acoustic data as described in the companion paper of Leblond et al. (Mar Geophys Res, 2014), also indicate important variations in, respectively, the target strength and the volumetric flow rates of individual sources. However, the observed temporal variations may not be related to the properties of the gas source only, but reflect possible variations in sea-bottom currents, which could deviate the bubble train towards the neighboring sector. During the 2011 survey, a 4-component ocean bottom seismometer (OBS) was co-located at the seafloor, 59 m away from the BOB module. The acoustic data from our rotating, monitoring system support, but do not provide undisputable evidence to confirm, the hypothesis formulated by Tary et al. (2012), that the short-duration, non-seismic micro-events recorded by the OBS are likely produced by gas-related processes within the near seabed sediments. Hence, the use of a multibeam echosounder, or of several split beam echosounders should be preferred to rotating systems, for future experiments. 相似文献

Abstract When a semi‐Lagrangian integration scheme was introduced into a global spectral model by Ritchie (1988), large errors developed in the neighbourhood of the poles. It took approximately 6 months of effort to diagnose the problem and find an appropriate correction. The method that was used to diagnose the source of error was quite tedious, but it was successful. Furthermore, it seems that this method could be used to diagnose other sources of error that occasionally show up in numerical integrations. For this reason, it was felt that this method should be described in a separate article. This is the main objective of the presentation that follows. An integration is carried out with the original version of the model and some results are presented in order to illustrate these errors. In order to identify their exact cause, the model is stripped down in two steps. At each step, some checks are made to ensure that the errors are stillpresent in the degraded version of the model. In the end, the remaining equations are sufficiently simple to ensure that the cause of the errors becomes obvious. The diagnosis immediately suggests some alternative computational designs. A modification that completely eliminates these errors is then proposed and tested. An integration with the modified spectral model is carried out and results are presented to show that the errors have disappeared. 相似文献

Climate records of air temperature (AT) and total precipitation (TP) are standard inputs for soil carbon dynamic models, i.e., for calculating temperature and moisture effects on soil biological activity. In this study our objective was to determine both spatial and temporal differences in soil biological activity in the Province of Québec, Canada. Soil biological activity was here calculated on a daily basis with the ICBM re_clim parameter using data from weather stations. When keeping soil and crop properties constant, re_clim (unitless) allows us to assess relative differences in soil biological activity. The magnitude of the temporal changes in re_clim, AT and TP were analyzed using Sen’s slope, which is a nonparametric method used to determine the presence of a trend component. The re_clim varied across Québec from 0.50 (58 °N) to a high of 1.66 (45 °N). Considering only the area with significant agricultural production, re_clim varied from 0.99 at Gaspé (48 °N) to 1.66 at Philipsburg (45 °N), i.e., soil organic carbon (SOC) decomposition rate is 68 % higher at the latter site (1.66/0.99) and correspondingly more C input is needed to maintain SOC. Soil biological activity increased from 1960 to 2009, with a mean slope variation in re_clim of about +10 %. The temporal variation in AT had more influence than that of TP. For 1980–2009 the mean annual slope of re_clim was significantly different from zero for 29 out of 49 climate records (mean?=?+14 %; N?=?29). We also emphasize that analysis of seasonal changes in AT is an issue that needs further attention, as well as modeling climate-induced changes in SOC dynamics based on future climate scenarios. 相似文献

A workshop organized in French Polynesia in November 2004 allowed reviewing the current methods to model the three-dimensional hydrodynamic circulation in semi-enclosed atoll lagoons for aquaculture applications. Mollusk (e.g. pearl oyster, clam) aquaculture is a major source of income for South Pacific countries such as French Polynesia or Cook Islands. This aquaculture now requires a better understanding of circulation patterns to improve the spatial use of the lagoons, especially to define the best area to set larvae collectors. The pelagic larval duration of the relevant species (<20 days) and the size of the semi-closed lagoons (few hundreds of km2) drive the specifications of the model in terms of the spatial and temporal scale. It is considered that, in contrast with fish, mollusk larvae movements are limited and that their cycle occurs completely in the lagoon, without an oceanic stage. Atolls where aquaculture is productive are generally well-bounded, or semi-closed, without significant large and deep openings to the ocean. Nevertheless part of the lagoon circulation is driven by oceanic water inputs through the rim, ocean swells, tides and winds. Therefore, boundary conditions of the lagoon system are defined by the spatial structure of a very shallow rim (exposition and number of hoas), the deep ocean swell climate, tides and wind regimes. To obtain a realistic 3D numerical model of lagoon circulation with adequate forcing, it is thus necessary to connect in an interdisciplinary way a variety of methods (models, remote sensing and in situ data collection) to accurately represent the different components of the lagoon system and its specific boundary conditions. We review here the current methods and tools used to address these different components for a hypothetical atoll of the Tuamotu Archipelago (French Polynesia), representative of the semi-closed lagoons of the South Pacific Ocean. We hope this paper will serve as a guide for similar studies elsewhere and we provide guidelines in terms of costs for all the different stages involved. 相似文献

Housing conditions can impact physical and mental health. In 2013, Portugal was still the fourth European Union country with the highest percentage of population without an adequately heated home in winter. Other adverse conditions are, for instance, overcrowding and living in older buildings. Some studies stress the relationship between stroke and poor living conditions in the elderly population, especially cold homes. Univariate and multivariate spatial cluster analysis were used to explore the relationship between excess stroke death risk, from 1998 to 2004, measured by the standardized mortality ratio (SMR) for several cohorts (including persons over 64 years old), and poor housing variables from the 2001 census, at the parish level in continental Portugal. A multivariate cluster of parishes, with population without any form of heating their homes as dominant condition, was detected in northwest Portugal. Mean and median SMR values across all cohorts were consistently higher within this cluster. This strengthens the hypothesis that cold homes deserve more attention in stroke prevention and mitigation amongst elderly persons, especially in northwestern continental Portugal. 相似文献
