Large observed datasets are not stationary and/or depend on covariates, especially, in the case of extreme hydrometeorological variables. This causes the difficulty in estimation, using classical hydrological frequency analysis. A number of non-stationary models have been developed using linear or quadratic polynomial functions or B-splines functions to estimate the relationship between parameters and covariates. In this article, we propose regularised generalized extreme value model with B-splines (GEV-B-splines models) in a Bayesian framework to estimate quantiles. Regularisation is based on penalty and aims to favour parsimonious model especially in the case of large dimension space. Penalties are introduced in a Bayesian framework and the corresponding priors are detailed. Five penalties are considered and the corresponding priors are developed for comparison purpose as: Least absolute shrinkage and selection (Lasso and Ridge) and smoothing clipped absolute deviations (SCAD) methods (SCAD1, SCAD2 and SCAD3). Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithms have been developed for each model to estimate quantiles and their posterior distributions. Those approaches are tested and illustrated using simulated data with different sample sizes. A first simulation was made on polynomial B-splines functions in order to choose the most efficient model in terms of relative mean biais (RMB) and the relative mean-error (RME) criteria. A second simulation was performed with the SCAD1 penalty for sinusoidal dependence to illustrate the flexibility of the proposed approach. Results show clearly that the regularized approaches leads to a significant reduction of the bias and the mean square error, especially for small sample sizes (n < 100). A case study has been considered to model annual peak flows at Fort-Kent catchment with the total annual precipitations as covariates. The in situ electrical conductivity of hydrous garnet samples (Py20Alm76Grs4–Py73Alm14Grs13) was determined at pressures of 1.0–4.0 GPa and temperatures of 873–1273 K in the YJ-3000t apparatus using a Solartron-1260
impedance/gain-phase analyzer for various chemical compositions and oxygen fugacities. The oxygen fugacity was controlled
by five solid-state oxygen buffers (Fe2O3 + Fe3O4, Ni + NiO, Fe + Fe3O4, Fe + FeO, and Mo + MoO2). Experimental results indicate that within a frequency range from 10−2 to 106 Hz, electrical conductivity is strongly dependent on signal frequency. Electrical conductivity shows an Arrhenius increase
with temperature. At 2.0 GPa, the electrical conductivity of anhydrous garnet single crystals with various chemical compositions
(Py20Alm76Grs4, Py30Alm67Grs3, Py56Alm43Grs1, and Py73Alm14Grs13) decreases with increasing pyrope component (Py). With increasing oxygen fugacity, the electrical conductivity of dry Py73Alm14Grs13 garnet single crystal shows an increase, whereas that of a hydrous sample with 465 ppm water shows a decrease, both following
a power law (exponents of 0.061 and −0.071, respectively). With increasing pressure, the electrical conductivity of this hydrous
garnet increases, along with the pre-exponential factors, and the activation energy and activation volume of hydrous samples
are 0.7731 ± 0.0041 eV and −1.4 ± 0.15 cm3/mol, respectively. The results show that small hopping polarons
( \textFe\textMg · ) \left( {{\text{Fe}}_{\text{Mg}}^{ \cdot } } \right) and protons (
\textH · {\text{H}}^{ \cdot } ) are the dominant conduction mechanisms for dry and wet garnet single crystals, respectively. Based on these results and
the effective medium theory, we established the electrical conductivity of an eclogite model with different mineral contents
at high temperatures and high pressures, thereby providing constraints on the inversion of field magnetotelluric sounding

High-resolution hydrodynamic models are a common tool to simulate water dynamics in estuaries. Results from these models are, however, difficult to interpret without the aid of additional parameters to integrate the information. In this paper a methodology to understand the transport patterns in the Tagus Estuary is proposed. It is based on the computation of two renewal time scales: residence time and integrated water fraction. This last parameter is used to build a dependency matrix that gives the integrated influence of each region of the estuary at a selected point. The parameters are computed using a Lagrangian transport model coupled to the hydrodynamic model. Results show that Tagus Estuary has two different types of regions: the central part of the estuary, with low renewal efficiency, and three regions with higher renewal efficiency. Renewal mechanisms are, however, different for each region as shown by the dependency matrix. Comparison of renewal time scales with results from a water-quality model revealed that residence time is not a limiting parameter for primary production in the Tagus Estuary.Responsible Editor: Hans Burchard 相似文献

冈底斯岛弧带属冈底斯活动大陆边缘的组成部分。带内早自中侏罗世、晚至第三纪的中酸性火山岩以及与雅鲁藏布江结合带有成因联系的Ⅰ型中酸性岛弧陆缘碱性侵入体(40-100Ma)和陆内汇聚造山引起的S型花岗岩体(15-50Ma)广泛发育。研究证实,冈底斯岛弧带属有色金属、贵金属成矿带。主要矿种的矿床类型有:海底火山热液型或火山喷流沉积型(Cu多金属)、海底热水沉积型(Cu、Pb、Zn等)、斑岩型(Cu、Mo)以及接触交代岩浆期后地下水热液充填的复合型(Cu、Pb、Zn)等。这些多期、多阶段复合叠加成矿作用和多种矿床类型的“同带共存”格局,展示了冈底斯岛弧带的巨大找矿潜力。 相似文献

Bombah Broadwater is a shallow coastal lake within the Ramsar-listed Myall Lakes system on the mid-north coast of New South
Wales, Australia. Increased nutrient and sediment loads resulting from catchment modification are thought to have instigated
the loss of aquatic plants in the lake, causing it to “switch” from a clear, macrophyte dominated system (similar to the conditions
in present day Myall Lake) to a turbid, phytoplankton dominated system. To assess this hypothesis, charophytes, foraminifera
and aquatic fauna remains from an 800 year sediment record were examined. The sediment chronology was established using 14C, 210Pb and 137Cs radiometric dating and sediment composition. Interestingly, a clear increase in charophytes since European arrival conflicted
with the hypothesised aquatic plant loss. Hence, it appears Bombah Broadwater has not undergone a change in stable state since
European arrival. An additional and unexpected finding in the patterns of the foraminifera and testate amoeba suggest that
Bombah Broadwater has freshened substantially since European arrival. This freshening may have resulted from increased catchment
run off as a result of the clearance of catchment vegetation. Since catchment vegetation clearance is widespread in Australia,
this finding raises the possibility that post-settlement freshening of coastal lakes may be a common occurrence. 相似文献

Electromagnetic radiation from the Sun is Earths primary energy source. Space-based radiometric measurements in the past two decades have begun to establish the nature, magnitude and origins of its variability. An 11-year cycle with peak-to-peak amplitude of order 0.1 % is now well established in recent total solar irradiance observations, as are larger variations of order 0.2 % associated with the Suns 27-day rotation period. The ultraviolet, visible and infrared spectral regions all participate in these variations, with larger changes at shorter wavelengths. Linkages of solar radiative output variations with solar magnetism are clearly identified. Active regions alter the local radiance, and their wavelength-dependent contrasts relative to the quiet Sun control the relative spectrum of irradiance variability. Solar radiative output also responds to sub-surface convection and to eruptive events on the Sun. On the shortest time scales, total irradiance exhibits five minute fluctuations of amplitude
%, and can increase to as much as 0.015 % during the very largest solar flares. Unknown is whether multi-decadal changes in solar activity produce longer-term irradiance variations larger than observed thus far in the contemporary epoch. Empirical associations with solar activity proxies suggest reduced total solar irradiance during the anomalously low activity in the seventeenth century Maunder Minimum relative to the present. Uncertainties in understanding the physical relationships between direct magnetic modulation of solar radiative output and heliospheric modulation of cosmogenic proxies preclude definitive historical irradiance estimates, as yet.Received: 26 August 2004, Published online: 16 November 2004
