In central Turkey, there are serious groundwater quality problems in the main river valleys and plains, and even in the lower parts of the secondary basins due to the underlying evaporitic geological formations. Groundwater quality improves towards the upstreams in the alluvium aquifers in most secondary valleys; however, groundwater potential decreases as well due to the reduced basin area, areal extent and thickness of the aquifers. The Malibogazi valley is situated to some 100 km north of Ankara. The dam constructed in the narrowest section of the valley has an average storage coefficient of 0.2 and the total and active storage capacities of 110,000 and 55,000 m3, respectively. The 20-m-thick aquifer extends for 6–7 km till the dam site within valley with an average width of 50–70 m. It mostly comprises sandy–gravely alluvial deposits. Malibogazi groundwater dam is a valve-controlled gravity flow dam. When the valves are opened, the water from the aquifer reservoir flows by gravity through supply pipe to the main irrigation channel, but when the valves are closed the water is stored in the aquifer and groundwater level begins to rise. Average groundwater discharge was about 20 l/s in 2005–2006 irrigation period. In this period, groundwater levels were about 2 m higher compared to the groundwater levels in the same seasons before the construction of the groundwater dam. Because the dam is of gravity flow type, it means an important contribution to the farmers since the operation cost is quite low. Malibogazi groundwater dam represents one of the first experiences of Turkey in the field of groundwater storage. Although the dam has small storage capacity, it may be a model for Turkey from the viewpoints of investigation, construction, dam wall, intake facility and measurements etc. 相似文献

Soil nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium concentrations accurately revealed spatial distribution maps and site-specific management-prone
areas through inverse distance weighting (IDW) method in the Amik Plain, Turkey. Spatial mapping of soil nitrogen, phosphorous,
and potassium is a very severe need to develop an economically and environmentally sound soil management plans. The objectives
of this study were (a) to map spatial variability of total N, available P, and exchangeable-K content of Amik Plain’s soils
and (b) to locate problematic areas requiring site specific management strategies for the nutrient elements. Spatial analyses
of Kjeldhal-N, Olsen-P, and exchangeable-K concentrations of the soils were performed by the IDW method. Mean N content for
surface soils (0–20 cm) was 1.38 g kg−1, available P was 28.19 kg ha−1 and exchangeable-K was 690 kg ha−1 with the differences between maximum and minimum being 7.63 g N kg−1, 242 kg P ha−1, and 2,082 kg K ha−1. For the surface soil, site-specific management-prone areas of Kjeldahl-N, Olsen-P, and exchangeable-K for “low and high + very
high” classes were found to be 20.1–17.8%, 24.7–10.0%, and 4.1–39.6%, respectively. Consequently, lands with excessive nutrient
elements require preventive-leaching practices, whereas nutrient-poor areas need fertilizer applications in favor of increasing
plant production. 相似文献

Estimation of seismic losses is a fundamental step in risk mitigation in urban regions. Structural damage patterns depend on the regional seismic properties and the local building vulnerability. In this study, a framework for seismic damage estimation is proposed where the local building fragilities are modeled based on a set of simulated ground motions in the region of interest. For this purpose, first, ground motion records are simulated for a set of scenario events using stochastic finite-fault methodology. Then, existing building stock is classified into specific building types represented with equivalent single-degree-of-freedom models. The response statistics of these models are evaluated through nonlinear time history analysis with the simulated ground motions. Fragility curves for the classified structural types are derived and discussed. The study area is Erzincan (Turkey), which is located on a pull-apart basin underlain by soft sediments in the conjunction of three active faults as right-lateral North Anatolian Fault, left-lateral North East Anatolian Fault, and left-lateral Ovacik Fault. Erzincan city center experienced devastating earthquakes in the past including the December 27, 1939 (Ms = 8.0) and the March 13, 1992 (Mw?=?6.6) events. The application of the proposed method is performed to estimate the spatial distribution of the damage after the 1992 event. The estimated results are compared against the corresponding observed damage levels yielding a reasonable match in between. After the validation exercise, a potential scenario event of Mw?=?7.0 is simulated in the study region. The corresponding damage distribution indicates a significant risk within the urban area. 相似文献

In recent decades, the space geodesy has been applied to the areas such as transportation, infrastructure planning, navigation, etc. Among them, the precise positioning at the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) stations yields better view in the understanding of the crustal deformation that requires global-scale measurements. There have been numerous studies examining the data process of continuous GNSS observations in the field of earth monitoring. More recently, GNSS stations established for continuously operating reference station networks have been beneficial resources in the tectonic plate-monitoring studies in lieu of campaign-type observations. However, this requires that the Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) should be established on stable structures acting like foundations and requires investigation of the long-term repeatability time series. This study aims to introduce recently established national CORS network, named CORS-TR, covering the entire Turkey and Northern Cyprus, and to explain the process of the long-term data obtained from the network on the characteristics of the tectonic plate movement within the area. The results of the CORS-TR data process present a great potential of using continuously operating reference stations not only in real-time kinematic applications of conventional geodesy studies but also in detecting and monitoring the crustal deformations of those that are crucial in earthquake-prone areas like Turkey. Since the findings are computed from the results of the all permanent stations of CORS-TR network, this study also examines the GNSS observation quality of the network for the given time interval. One of the major conclusions of the data process conducted in the study displays that the CORS-TR stations established on the carefully selected large and low-rise existing building had been more stable than the stations on the ground which have been subjected to soil settlement since the construction. 相似文献

Noise contamination of measured data greatly affects the final results of inversion. Three types of noise source — random and systematic errors and the uncertainties due to the inadequacy of the mathematical model in representing the actual physical conditions — are discussed in the framework of resistivity sounding data. Two methods are proposed for describing these uncertainties. The first possibility is to smooth the measured data by a combination of simple fitting functions that satisfies the ‘1D smoothness’ criteria and consequently simulates the behaviour of a 1D Schlumberger apparent resistivity curve. The second method is to derive weight coefficients from the differences between the measured and the smoothed data sets. Both methods are carried out under the control of the interpreter. The relative merits and drawbacks of the direct and iterative interpretation methods used for the estimation of the parameters of the layered earth model are summarized. Two variants of the combination of these methods are presented to obtain more powerful and automatic interpretation schemes. In the sequential interpretation, an initial guess supplied by the direct method is improved by the iterative method to obtain a reasonable fit between the measured data and the model response. In the simultaneous interpretation, the successive application of the direct and iterative methods is carried out, starting from the first branch of the apparent resistivity curve. The operation is then shifted to subsequent branches that represent the deeper parts of the geoelectric section. This is similar to the data acquisition applied in direct current sounding in which the depth penetration is increased by expanding the current electrode spacings. The proposed sequential and simultaneous interpretation algorithms require minimum aids and efforts of the interpreter. 相似文献

The scope of this paper is to develop the nonlinear meta-models for seakeeping behaviour, considering the fishing vessels. These models are intended to be inserted either in a multiattribute design selection process or in a comprehensive multiobjective optimization procedure. For this purpose, seakeeping data of fishing vessels in regular head waves are used to develop meta-models of transfer functions of heave, pitch and vertical acceleration by nonlinear analysis. A home-made software considers two databases; the first is composed by the ship dimensions and coefficients of fishing vessels, and the second is their ship motion data obtained by employing a strip-theory calculation. The meta-models are proposed to predict the vertical motion characteristics for given ranges of speed and wave length during the concept design stage. The independent variables are hull size (Δ), main dimensions (L, B, T), and some hydrostatic parameters (CWP, CVP, LCB, LCF, etc.). The results estimated by the software show good correspondences with the ones achieved by direct computations. The study provides additional insight on the influence of hull form parameters on seakeeping performance of small vessels having form properties and parametric range corresponding to the investigated vessels. 相似文献

The Kozakli–Nev?ehir geothermal field extends a long a NW–SE direction at SE of the Centrum of Kozakli. The area is not rugged and average elevation is 1,000 m. The Kozanözü Creek flows towards north of the area. In the Kozakli thermal Spa area, thermal waters are manifested along a valley with a length of 1.5 km and 200 m width. In this resort some hot waters are discharged with no use. The thermal water used in the area comes from wells drilled by MTA. In addition, these waters from wells are also utilized by hotels, baths and motels belonging to City Private Management, Municipality and private sector. The measured temperature of Kozakli waters ranges from 43–51°C in springs and 80–96°C in wells. Waters are issued in a wide swampy area as a small group of springs through buried faults. Electrical conductivity values of thermal spring and well waters are 1,650–3,595 μS/cm and pH values are 6.72–7.36. Kozakli cold water has an electrical conductivity value of 450 μS/cm and pH of 7.56. All thermal waters are dominated by Na+ and Cl–SO4 while cold waters are dominated by Ca+2 and HCO3 ?. The aim of this study was to investigate the environmental problems around the Kozakli geothermal field and explain the mechanisms of karstic depression which was formed by uncontrolled use of thermal waters in this area and bring up its possible environmental threats. At the Kozakli geothermal field a sinkhole with 30 m diameter and 15 m depth occurred in January, 17th 2007 at the recreation area located 20 m west of the geothermal well which belongs to the government of Nev?ehir province. The management of the geothermal wells should be controlled by a single official institution in order to avoid the creation of such karstic structures affecting the environment at the source area. 相似文献

A detailed stratigraphic investigation based on high-resolution seismic profiles revealed that the delta at the southern entrance
of the Istanbul Strait consists of three parasequence sets. The lowermost parasequence shows a sea-level stillstand at the
beginning of the lowstand systems tract, possibly at 11,000±1,100 a b.p., whereas the upper two parasequences reflect deposition
at lowstand and during the subsequent transgression. A maximum flooding surface may be developing on the delta at present.
The delta is located on the eastern side of the Istanbul Strait canyon, with east–west prograding parasequences. The development
of the delta is clearly associated with the Kurbağalı Stream on the east coast, and not with the Black Sea outflow through
the strait. The geometry of the delta indicates a radial architecture arranged from northeast to southwest. 相似文献
