Recent and paleo seismicity indicate that moderate seismic activity is relatively large for Aswan area. This is a warning on the possibility of occurrence of earthquakes in the future too. No strong motion records are available in Aswan area for engineers to rely upon. Consequently, the seismological modeling is an alternative approach till sufficient instrumental records around Aswan become available. In the present study, we have developed new ground motion attenuation relationship for events spanning 4.0?? M w?≤?7.0 and distance to the surface projection of the fault up to 100 km for Aswan based on a statistically simulated seismological model. We generated suites of ground motion time histories using stochastic technique. The ground motion attenuation relation describes the dependence of the strength of the ground motions on the earthquake magnitude and distance from the earthquake. The proposed equation for peak ground acceleration (PGA) for the bed rock is in the form of: $ {\mathbf{log}}{\text{ }}\left( {{\mathbf{PGA}}/{\mathbf{gal}}} \right){\text{ }} = {\mathbf{1}}.{\mathbf{24}} + {\mathbf{0}}.{\mathbf{358}}{M_{\mathbf{w}}} - {\text{ }}{\mathbf{log}}\left( {\mathbf{R}} \right){\text{ }}-{\text{ }}{\mathbf{0}}.{\mathbf{008}}{\text{ }}{\mathbf{R}}{\text{ }} + {\text{ }}{\mathbf{0}}.{\mathbf{22}}{\text{ }}{\mathbf{P}} $ . Where PGA is the peak ground acceleration in gal (cm/s2); Mw, its moment magnitude; R is the closest distance between the rupture projection and the site of interest; and the factor P is a dummy variable. It is observed that attenuation of strong motion in Aswan is correlated with those used before in Egypt.  相似文献

The tectonic position of Egypt in the northeastern corner of the African continent suggests that it may possess significant geothermal resources, especially along its eastern margin. The most of the thermal springs in Egypt are located along the shores of Gulf of Suez and Red Sea. These springs are probably tectonic or nonvolcanic origin associated with the opening of the Red Sea—Gulf of Suez rifts, where the eastern shore of the Gulf of Suez is characterized by superficial thermal manifestations including a cluster of hot springs with varied temperatures. Hammam Faraun area consists of the hottest spring in Egypt where the water temperature is 70°C. Conceptual as well as numerical models were made on the Hammam Faraun hot spring based on geological, geochemical, and geophysical data. The models show that the heat source of the hot spring is probably derived from high heat flow and deep water circulation controlled by faults associated with the opening of the Red Sea and Gulf of Suez rifts.  相似文献

The equation of radiative transfer in an isotropically scattering slab subject to general boundary conditions is solved. The Padé approximation technique is used to calculate the reflected and transmitted angular distributions. Numerical results for angular distributions through and at the boundaries of a finite slab are calculated by the Padé approximation technique. The results for a Padé approximation of [0/1] are compared with results obtained by the Galerkin method.  相似文献

A method of analysis is presented for solving the radiative transfer problem in an absorbing, emitting, inhomogeneous, and anisotropically scattering plane-parallel medium with specular and diffuse reflecting boundaries and internal source (problem 1). Exact relations for the radiation heat flux at the boundaries of problem 1 are obtained in terms of the radiation density and albedos of the corresponding source-free medium with specular reflecting boundaries (problem 2). Two coupled integral equations for the radiation density and the second moment of the radiation intensity for problem 2 with Rayleigh phase functions are obtained. The Galerkin method is used to solve these equations. Albedos of problem 2 are compared with theF n method. Numerical results for radiation heat fluxes at the boundaries of problem 1 are tabulated for different forms of the internal source.  相似文献

An asymptotic solution for the equation of radiative transfer in an inhomogeneous medium was obtained on the basis of the corresponding solutions for homogeneous sub-layers in the slowing down region. Function relations between the reflection and transmission coefficients for the whole slab and those of the sublayers are given. The invariant embedding concepts are used to get the reflection and transmission coefficients for the sub-layers. We assumed different models for the slowing-down kernels. Laplace transform was used to transform the Boltzmann equation to one velocity approximation with re-scaled mean-free path and single-scattering albedo. Numerical results are given for energy albedo as a function of the mass number of the host medium.  相似文献

Wadi Queih basin hosts a ~2,500-m thick Neoproterozoic volcanoclastic successions that unconformably lie over the oldest Precambrian basement. These successions were deposited in alluvial fan, fluviatile, lacustrine, and aeolian depositional environments. Diagenetic minerals from these volcaniclastic successions were studied by X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, and analytical electron microscopy. The diagenetic processes recognized include mechanical compaction, cementation, and dissolution. Based on the framework grain–cement relationships, precipitation of the early calcite cement was either accompanied or followed by the development of part of the pore-lining and pore-filling clay cements. Secondary porosity development occurred due to partial to complete dissolution of early calcite cement and feldspar grains. In addition to calcite, several different clay minerals including kaolinite, illite, and chlorite with minor smectite occur as pore-filling and pore-lining cements. Chlorite coating grains helps to retain primary porosity by retarding the envelopment of quartz overgrowths. Clay minerals and their diagenetic assemblages has been distinguished between primary volcaniclastics directly produced by pyroclastic eruptions and epiclastic volcaniclastics derived from erosion of the pre-existing volcanic rocks. Phyllosilicates of the epiclastic rocks display wider compositional variations owing to wide variations in the mineralogical and chemical compositions of the parent material. Most of the phyllosilicates (kaolinite, illite, chlorite, mica, and smectite) are inherited minerals derived from the erosion of the volcanic basement complex, which had undergone hydrothermal alteration. Smectites of the epiclastic rocks are beidellite–montmorillonite derived from the altered volcanic materials of the sedimentary environment. Conversely, phyllosilicate minerals of the pyroclastic rocks are dominated by kaolinite, illite, and mica, which were formed by pedogenetic processes through the hydrothermal influence.  相似文献

The Precambrian basement rocks exposed along Qift–Quseir asphaltic road, central Eastern Desert of Egypt, exhibit two contrasted tectonic units, each of which has its own lithology structural style and grade of metamorphism. They are intruded by dolerite and diorite dykes. The alkali (Na2O+K2O) and TiO2 contents increase whereas Al2O3, FeO, MgO, CaO and MnO decrease with increasing SiO2 from dolerites to diorites. The trace elements Ti, Zr, Cr, Y and Ni indicate that the dolerites are tholeiitic with slight tendency toward calc-alkaline and formed from basaltic magma in an active continental margin, while diorites are calc-alkaline and were formed by fractional crystallisation of high-alumina basaltic magma in an island arc and active continental margin tectonic environment where they probably represent the forerunner of G1 granites. The molecular ratios Mg values (MgO×100/MgO+FeO) of dolerites range from 47 to 49 while those of diorite range from 51 to 59, indicating that the dolerite and diorite have suffered mild fractionation. Mineral chemistry for the diorites shows that the amphiboles are classified as magnesiohornblende and the plagioclase composition is An39–42 (i.e. the narrow range indicate that the pluton has not suffered extensive fractional crystallisation). The Al content of amphibole displays significant variation with pressure and temperature, also the change of the Ca/(Ca+Na) ratio of plagioclase is dependent on temperature. The amphibole–plagioclase geothermobarometer suggested the P-T formation conditions of studied dykes as 2 kbar and 600 °C.  相似文献

In this study, an approach for runoff and recharge estimations that can be applied in arid regions which suffer from lack of data is presented. Estimating groundwater recharge in arid regions is an extremely important but difficult task, the main reason is the scarcity of data in arid regions. This is true for the Eastern Egyptian Desert where groundwater is used for irrigation purposes in agricultural reclamation along the Red Sea coast line. As a result of the scarcity of hydrologic information, the relation between rainfall and runoff was calculated depending on the paleo-flood hydrology information. Two models were used to calculate the rainfall–runoff relationships for El Hawashyia basin and Ghazala sub-basin. Two computer programs known as Gerinne (meaning channel in German) and SMADA6 (Stormwater Management and Design Aid, version 6) were conjunctively used for this purpose. As a result of the model applied to El Hawashyia basin, a rainfall event of a total of 18.3 mm with duration 3 h at the station of Hurghada, which has an exceedance probability of 5–10 %, produces a discharge volume of 10.2 × 106 m3 at the delta, outlet of the basin, as 4.7 mm of the rainfall infiltrates (recharge). For the Ghazala sub-basin, the model yields a runoff volume of 3.16 × 106 m3 transferred from a total rainfall of 25 mm over a period of 3 h, as 3.2 mm of it was lost as infiltration.  相似文献

In this work, the treatment of photographic processing wastewaters (PPW) by electro‐Fenton process has been investigated. The Influence of operating conditions on kinetics and efficiency of electro‐Fenton process has been evaluated using carbon felt cathode and platinium (Pt) or boron‐doped diamond (BDD) anode. The results of electro‐Fenton treatment of PPW have shown that nearly complete removal of total phenols was obtained for all combinations with pseudo‐first rate constants of 0.07, 0.012, and 0.018/min for carbon felt/Pt, carbon felt/BDD and Pt/BDD cathode/anode combinations, respectively. The combination of carbon felt cathode with BDD anode achieved the highest total organic carbon (TOC) removal of 90%, while it did not exeed 40% for carbon felt/Pt combination. Increasing current intensity and Fe2+ dose enhances the efficiency of electro‐Fenton process. However, increasing pH decreases TOC removal during the treatment of PPW by electro‐Fenton process. The highest efficiency of electro‐Fenton process using BDD anode can be explained by the contribution of direct and indirect oxidation routes in the degradation mechanism of organics including (i) oxidation via hydroxyl radicals generated from the catalytic decomposition of H2O2 and from water discharge on BDD anode, (ii) direct oxidation of certain organic compounds on BDD anode, and (iii) mediated oxidation with inorganic oxidants electrogenerated from anodic oxidation of supporting salts.  相似文献
