A three‐dimensional finite‐element model of contaminant migration in fissured clays or contaminated sand which includes multiple sources of non‐equilibrium processes is proposed. The conceptual framework can accommodate a regular network of fissures in 1D, 2D or 3D and immobile solutions in the macro‐pores of aggregated topsoils, as well as non‐equilibrium sorption. A Galerkin weighted‐residual statement for the three‐dimensional form of the equations in the Laplace domain is formulated. Equations are discretized using linear and quadratic prism elements. The system of algebraic equations is solved in the Laplace domain and solution is inverted to the time domain numerically. The model is validated and its scope is illustrated through the analysis of three problems: a waste repository deeply buried in fissured clay, a storage tank leaking into sand and a sanitary landfill leaching into fissured clay over a sand aquifer. A feeding trial was conducted in a recirculating water system to investigate the effects of dietary protein levels on growth,
feed utilization, hepatosomatic index and liver lipid deposition of juvenile red snapper, Lutjanus argentimaculatus (average initial wet weight 8.0 ± 0.39 g and total length 3.14 ± 0.3 cm). In the experiment, six fishmeal-based diets were
formulated to contain various protein levels (20% to 45% in 5% increments), with dietary energy ranging from 2210.7kJ lOOg
to 2250.2kJlOOg dry matter. The protein to energy ratios of diets ranged from 8.58 mg protein kJ−1 to 20.03 mg protein kJ−1. Diets were fed for 90d to triplicate groups of fish stocked in 0.128m3 seawater tanks, 25 individuals each. The daily ration of 2% wet body weight was offered to the fish thrice a day. The fish
at the end of the study had more than ten-fold (77.0g) increase in weight compared to the initial (8.0g). Fish fed diets of
40% and 45% protein produced significantly (P<0.05) higher weight gain of 77.2g and 76.5g, and specific growth rate (SGR) of 2.65% and 2.62% than those of 67.0 g and 68.3g,
and 2.49% and 2.51% of the other diets. The broken-line regression of SGR against dietary protein level yielded an optimum
dietary protein requirement of 42.6% (Y=−1.6295 + 0.1114 X
2,P<0.05). Survival remained 100% among groups. Feed conversion ratio decreased from 0.45 for fish fed 20% dietary protein to
0.35 for fish fed 45% dietary protein. Nitrogen intake increased with an increase in dietary protein, which in turn resulted
in an increase in nitrogen gain of fish whole body. Fish fed 40% and 45% protein diets showed higher (P<0.05) nitrogen gain (0.27g and 0.26g) than those (0.23g and 025g) fed all other diets. Gross energy intake (GEI) in fish
fed 45% protein was lower (600.67kJ) than that (607.97 kJ) of 40% protein diet, though the differences were not statistically
significant (P>0.05); GEI ranging from 677.31 kJ to 663.20 kJ at remaining four diets (20% to 35% protein) did not appear to differ significantly
(P>0.05). The highest energy gain of 518.33 kJ was obtained with fish fed 40% protein, resulting in the highest energy retention
efficiency of 85.26%. The hepatosomatic index of fish fed diets of 20%, 25%, 30% and 35% protein were significantly (P<0.05) higher (2.09% to 2.57%) than those (1.44% and 1.41%) of fish fed diets containing 40% and 45% protein. Liver lipid
contents decreased from 8.72% to 7.0% in fish fed dietary protein of 20% to 45% in 5% increments. Results suggest that the
diet containing 40% to 42.6% protein with a P/E ratio of 17.6 mg protein kJ−1 is required for good growth of L. argentimaculatus weighing between 8.0 g and 85.2 g under the culture conditions of the present study. 相似文献

We challenge the former interpretation of the ‘sedimentary mélange’ of the Makran accretionary complex as a tectonic mélange diapirically emplaced from below and provide evidence for its sedimentary gravitational emplacement from the north during Tortonian–Messinian times (between 11.8 and 5.8 Ma). It is an olistostrome that includes blocks of ophiolites and oceanic sediments derived from the ‘coloured mélange’ to the north, and reworked chunks of the turbidites on which it rests with an erosional truncation. The chaotic scattering of blocks of any size and lithology and the weak, soft‐sediment deformation of the matrix argue against a tectonic emplacement of the chaotic formation. Its size and internal structure, together with the size of the individual blocks, make the olistostrome a fossil equivalent of the large, gravitationally emplaced debris flows observed along present‐day continental margins and unstable volcanic edifices. 相似文献

Intentional and/or accidental volatile organic compound (VOC) spill into water bodies may lead to severe contamination and health problems in water infrastructures. The importance and widespread use of petroleum products and the threats posed by these products on surface water resources in Iran necessitates the access to numerical hydrodynamic and water quality simulation models with appropriate capabilities. Simulation the fate and transport of VOC in both flowing and standing water bodies is a fairly complex problem. In this research, CE-QUAL-W2 model is modified to simulate the fate and transport of VOC [i.e., Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), benzene] in standing and flowing water bodies. The performance of the modified CE-QUAL-W2 model is evaluated in a MTBE pollution spill at Khalife-Tarkhan river along the headwaters of Gheshlagh reservoir, Kordestan, Iran. The results show the modified CE-QUAL-W2 model’s capability to depict the spatial and temporal variation of MTBE in comparison with recorded data from MTBE spill event of Gheshlagh reservoir. Based on the simulation results of modified CE-QUAL-W2 model, reservoir cleanup time in different meteorological and hydrological scenarios is evaluated. The results show Gheshlagh reservoir cleanup time reduced in scenarios that included air temperature reduction, wind speed increasing, and high inflow condition. 相似文献

Groundwater constitutes the main source of water supply in the High Mekerra watershed of northwestern Algeria. This resource is currently under heavy pressures to meet the growing needs of drinking water and irrigation. This study assesses the geochemical characteristics of groundwater of the High Mekerra watershed at 21 points distributed across the two main aquifers (Ras El Ma and Mouley Slissen) in the region. Hydrochemical facies of Ras El Ma groundwater are dominantly MgCl and CaCl type, while those of Mouley Slissen groundwater are of CaHCO3 type. Principal component analysis shows a strong correlation between groundwater mineralization and Ca2+, Na+, Cl? and SO4 2? ions stemming from the dissolution of carbonates, gypsum and anhydrite. Groundwater mineralization evolves from south to north. Geochemical modeling shows that the High Mekerra groundwater is saturated with respect to calcite and dolomite and undersaturated with respect to gypsum and anhydrite. Nitrate concentrations that exceed the WHO standard (50 mg L?1) at several points are linked to the agro-pastoral activities in this region. 相似文献

To measure the shear strength and deformability of a sedimentary soft rock, a small down-hole in-situ triaxial testing method
is developed. The apparatus consists of a triaxial cell and an axial loading device which enables testing at any depth. In
this method, a columnar specimen of diameter 90 mm and 285 mm height can be sheared at the bottom of a drill hole. A series
of tests were conducted at a 50 m deep experimental cavern. The test gallery is contained in mudstone with some inter-bedded
thin sand layers. The tests were done in three different depths in a borehole by a multiple-step loading method. The new testing
method was successful to measure stress–strain relation of rock mass. The test results demonstrated that the multiple-step
loading method is acceptable in mudstone formation, if an appropriate criterion for load reversal is selected to recognize
the instant of failure by stress–strain relation during loading. In addition, different results for mechanical properties
of mudstone rock mass were observed in the specimens contained sand layers. It is also concluded that, the same loading method
is not successful if a sand layer is located in the middle of the specimen due to large damage induced in early stages of

Summary Monthly and seasonal variations of cloudiness have been studied for different zones of Iraq. It was found to be very low over the entire country and descends as we proceed southwards, except in summer, when it was found to be higher in the south than in the north. From the daily records of the Campbell-Stokes sunshine recorders at Mosul, Baghdad and Basrah, during a period of 10 years from 1961 to 1970, the actual hours and the percentage of possible hours of sunshine duration have been studied in detail and the results obtained are presented in a practical form. It has also been found that the pyrheliometric conditions for Baghdad could be considered representative of the entire country.Taking the incoming solar radiation for clear days during different months of the year, and radiation received on a horizontal surface at Baghdad into consideration, and applying Ångström empirical formulae, it was possible to estimate graphically the amount of solar radiation received at any location in Iraq at any time of the year when the cloudiness or the percentage of possible hours of sunshine is known. 相似文献

Three-dimensional (3D) spatial information models are increasingly being adopted to help communicate the spatial dimensions of complex built environments. Land administration practices in multi-owned developments include the subdivision, registration and management of legal interests associated with private, communal and public properties, which are often located along the vertical dimension. The spatial structure of each legal interest is normally composed of invisible spaces, defined as the inside and outside of multi-owned developments, as well as physically built structures. Additionally, a wide variety of legal boundary types mark out the spatial limits of the individual parts of each legal interest. These legal boundaries are typically delineated by either relying on fixed surveying measurements or referencing physically existent objects. This article provides a critical assessment of 3D spatial information models in terms of their capabilities for modelling legal interests and legal boundaries defined in the Victorian jurisdiction. We classify these models into three categories: purely legal, purely physical and integrated. This assessment provides the basis for developing a new 3D spatial information model, which would subsequently support a pathway towards realising the Victorian land administration system in a 3D digital environment. 相似文献
