Summary Degree-days as a measure of accumulated temperature deviations from a base temperature have many practical applications in
various human related activities such as home cooling, heating, plant growth in agriculture and power generation in addition
to energy requirement. Long temperature records are necessary for their reliable estimations at given stations. In this paper,
degree-day measure has been applied to monthly temperature records for systematically changed base temperature values from
− 25 °C to + 35 °C with 5 °C increments at 255 meteorology stations in Turkey. The results are represented in the form of
spatial degree-day distribution maps, which are then related to various climatic, meteorological and topographic features
of Turkey. For instance, free surface water bodies in forms of surrounding seas, lakes and rivers insert retardation in the
expansion of heating degree-days over large regions. On the other hand, cold air penetration from polar regions in the northeastern
Turkey originating from Siberia appears at moderate base temperature heating degree-days.

Summary Planning, design, construction and operation of lakeshore structures require information about the future likely extremes
of the lake levels at a given risk percentage. Alternative future likely synthetic sequences can be numerically generated
provided that the underlying generating mechanism of the lake level fluctuation phenomenon is identified. Simple linear and
periodic nonlinear models are used for modeling the deterministic part in the lake level records. Linear trend is eliminated
from the original lake level historic data by regression line technique. The nonlinear part needs two stages for its identification.
First Fourier series is applied to model interannual periodicities in the lake level fluctuation series and then monthly standardization
procedure is applied for seasonal periodic nonlinear component modeling. A second order Markov model is found suitable for
the remaining stochastic parts. The application of the methodology is presented for the Lake Van monthly level data in eastern
Turkey. Suitable models are identified and their parameters are estimated for trend, periodic and stochastic parts. Likely,
synthetic lake levels are generated by the stochastic model and hence lake level extreme values are depicted for the next
2, 6, 12, 24, 60 and 120 months with risk calculations. Such risk calculations take into account the stochastic characteristics
of the lake level fluctuations only. The deterministic parts as linear trends and periodicities are added to the stochastic
extreme events for the actual simulation of the lake levels. The model presented in this paper is not for time prediction
of future lake levels but rather for the simulation of possible equally likely extreme lake level value occurrences over any
desired future period.

Theoretical well functions have been derived over the years to predict ground water level behaviour in aquifer systems under stress owing to groundwater extraction. The drawdown data collected during pump tests are typically analysed using graphical curve‐matching procedures to estimate aquifer parameters based on these well functions. Difficulty in aquifer characteristic identification and parameter estimation may arise when the field data do not perfectly match the drawdown curves obtained from the well functions. The present study provides a new method for the interpretation of aquifer pump tests which supplements the existing curve‐matching procedures in case ideal conditions do not exist; the proposed method provides a greater degree of flexibility in the data analysis for diagnostic tool purposes. The method, referred to as the Incremental Area Method (IAM) is based on integrating the logarithmic‐based drawdown curves within a discrete time and matching the results with a corresponding time integral of the Theis ( 1935 ) Well Function which governs ideal confined aquifers. The application of the proposed method to synthetically generated data and field data showed that IAM represents a viable method which yields information on potential non‐idealness of the aquifer and provides aquifer parameter estimates thus potentially overcoming drawdown data curve‐matching difficulties. Pollutants affect not only the environment in which they originate since they are also transported by air currents to other locations. For this reason, air pollution is a global problem for all countries and the air and water quality need to be monitored carefully. More information on precipitation chemistry is required to determine the source of pollution as well as its effects on the ecosystems. In this study, precipitation chemistry has been analyzed for the first time by using simple bulk collectors located at four different sites in Northwest Turkey for a period of two years. About 650 sequential rainwater samples were collected and analyzed for pH, electrical conductivity, anions such as , , Cl?, and cations such as Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, and . The selected sites were under the effect of different environmental factors. Our results showed that the highest and concentrations were measured in the Northwest of the research area. Additionally, it has been found that Ca2+ ions are abundant within all rainwater samples. 相似文献

A simple, rapid, and accurate method was developed for separation and preconcentration of trace levels of iron(III) and zinc(II) ions in environmental samples. Methyl‐2‐(4‐methoxy‐benzoyl)‐3‐(4‐methoxyphenyl)‐3‐oxopropanoylcarbamate (MMPC) has been proposed as a new complexing agent for Fe(III) and Zn(II) ions using solvent extraction prior to their determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). Fe(III) and Zn(II) ions can be selectively separated from Fe(II), Pb(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Mn(II), Cr(III), Ni(II), Cd(II), Ag(I), Au(III), Pd(II), Cr(VI), and Al(III) ions in the solution by using the MMPC reagent. The analytical parameters such as pH, sample volume, shaking time, amount of MMPC reagent, volume of methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), effect of ionic strength, and type of back extractant were investigated. The recovery values for Fe(III) and Zn(II) ions were greater than 95% and the detection limits for Fe(III) and Zn(II) ions were 0.26 and 0.32 µg L?1, respectively. The precision of the method as the relative standard deviation changed between 1.8 and 2.1%. Calibration curves have a determination coefficient (r2) of at least 0.997 or higher. The preconcentration factor was found to be 100. Accuracy of the method was checked by analyzing of a certified reference material and spiked samples. In Italy, as in other high seismic risk countries, many bridges, nowadays deemed ‘strategic’ for civil protection interventions after an earthquake, were built without antiseismic criteria, and therefore their seismic assessment is mandatory. Accordingly, the development of a seismic assessment procedure that gives reliable results and, at the same time, is sufficiently simple to be applied on a large population of bridges in a short time is very useful. In this paper, a displacement‐based procedure for the assessment of multi‐span RC bridges, satisfying these requirements and called direct displacement‐based assessment (DDBA), is proposed. Based on the direct displacement‐based design previously developed by Priestley et al., DDBA idealizes the multi DOF bridge structure as an equivalent SDOF system and hence defines a safety factor in terms of displacement. DDBA was applied to hypothetical bridge configurations. The same structures were analyzed also using standard force‐based approach. The standard practice for assessing aquifer parameters is to match groundwater drawdown data obtained during pumping tests against theoretical well function curves specific to the aquifer system being tested. The shape of the curve derived from the logarithmic time derivative of the drawdown data is also very frequently used as a diagnostic tool to identify the aquifer system in which the pumping test is being conducted. The present study investigates the incremental area method (IAM) to serve as an alternative diagnostic tool for the aquifer system identification as well as a supplement to the aquifer parameter estimation procedure. The IAM based diagnostic curves for ideal confined, leaky, bounded and unconfined aquifers have been derived as part of this study, and individual features of the plots have been identified. These features were noted to be unique to each aquifer setting, which could be used for rapid evaluation of the aquifer system. The effectiveness of the IAM methodology was investigated by analyzing field data for various aquifer settings including leaky, unconfined, bounded and heterogeneous conditions. The results showed that the proposed approach is a viable method for use as a diagnostic tool to identify the aquifer system characteristics as well as to support the estimation of the hydraulic parameters obtained from standard curve matching procedures. One of the serious and growing potential problems in most large urban areas is the shortage of land for waste disposal. Although
there are some efforts to reduce and recover the waste, disposal in landfills is still the most common method for waste destination.
An inappropriate landfill site may have negative environmental, economic and ecological impacts. Therefore, it should be selected
carefully by considering both regulations and constraints on other sources. In this study, candidate sites for an appropriate
landfill area in the vicinity of Ankara are determined by using the integration of geographic information systems and multicriteria
decision analysis (MCDA). For this purpose, 16 input map layers including topography, settlements (urban centers and villages),
roads (Highway E90 and village roads), railways, airport, wetlands, infrastructures (pipelines and power lines), slope, geology,
land use, floodplains, aquifers and surface water are prepared and two different MCDA methods (simple additive weighting and
analytic hierarchy process) are implemented to a geographical information system. Comparison of the maps produced by these
two different methods shows that both methods yield conformable results. Field checks also confirm that the candidate sites

The rapidly developing mining sector in recent years has also brought environmental problems together. At the beginning of these problems are mine process wastes produced in high quantities from mines every year. The waste material at 90% and the concentrate chromite at 10% are obtained in the chromite ore enrichment plants. This significant amount of waste creates pollution in nature visually and physically. The aim of the study is to determine the advantages of using foamed concrete as a building material, to reduce the production cost of foamed concrete, to produce alternative solutions for rehabilitation, and to eliminate environmental pollution. The chromite enrichment wastes obtained from Fethiye, Köyce?iz, Denizli and Burdur regions were used as aggregates in the production of foamed concrete. In this study, compressive strength experiments were carried out according to TS EN 1354, thermal conductivity experiments were carried out according to TS EN 12664. As a result, it has been observed that chromite waste (dunite) can be used in the production of foamed concrete under certain conditions. 相似文献

Spatially continuous rock assemblages that share similar environmental evolution or structural features can be classified as a single tectonic unit. This approach enables to link dispersed units or massifs with each other and sometimes can be subjective, depending on the classification criteria. The relationship and the nature of the contact between the Strandja Massif and the ?stanbul Zone have been controversial due to the Cainozoic cover. Amalgamation of these units was claimed as early as the Aptian-Albian.Lower Triassic sedimentary rocks, which are overlain by the Carboniferous flysch with a N-verging thrust fault are exposed NW of the ?stanbul Zone. This study reveals the spatial relationship between the Strandja Massif and the ?stanbul Zone deduced from the U-Pb dating and Lu-Hf isotopes of the detrital zircons from these Lower Triassic clastics. Our results show that the early Triassic basin was fed from a provenance that included arc-related Upper Carboniferous-Lower Permian magmatic rocks which is much more likely to be the Strandja Massif than the ?stanbul Zone. The second outcome of this study is that a unit that previously assigned to Palaeozoic turned out to be Triassic, which brings the Strandja Massif farther to the east, into the northern ?stanbul Zone. 相似文献
