Authorship in IPCC AR5 and its implications for content: climate change and Indigenous populations in WGII 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This essay examines the extent to which we can expect Indigenous Knowledge, understanding, and voices on climate change (??Indigenous content??) to be captured in WGII of the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report (AR5), based on an analysis of chapter authorship. Reviewing the publishing history of 309 chapter authors (CAs) to WGII, we document 9 (2.9%) to have published on climate change and Indigenous populations and involved as authors in 6/30 chapters. Drawing upon recent scholarship highlighting how authorship affect structure and content of assessment reports, we argue that, unaddressed, this will affect the extent to which Indigenous content is examined and assessed. While it is too late to alter the structure of AR5, there are opportunities to prioritize the recruitment of contributing authors and reviewers with expertise on Indigenous issues, raise awareness among CAs on the characteristics of impacts, adaptation, and vulnerability faced by Indigenous peoples, and highlight how Indigenous perspectives can help broaden our understanding of climate change and policy interventions. 相似文献

Calculated phase equilibria among the minerals sodic amphibole, calcic amphibole, garnet, chloritoid, talc, chlorite, paragonite,
margarite, omphacite, plagioclase, carpholite, zoisite/clinozoisite, lawsonite, pyrophyllite, kyanite, sillimanite, quartz
and H2O are presented for the model system Na2O-CaO-FeO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O (NCFMASH), which is relevant for many greenschist, blueschist, amphibolite and eclogite facies rocks. Using the activity-composition
relationships for multicomponent amphiboles constrained by Will and Powell (1992), equilibria containing coexisting calcic
and sodic amphiboles could be determined. The blueschist–greenschist transition reaction in the NCFMASH system, for example,
is defined by the univariant reaction sodic amphibole + zoisite = calcic amphibole + chlorite + paragonite + plagioclase (+
quartz + H2O) occurring between approximately 420 and 450 °C at 9.5 to 10 kbar. The calculated petrogenetic grid is a valuable tool for
reconstructing the PT-evolution of metabasic rocks. This is shown for rocks from the island of Samos, Greece. On the basis of mineral and whole
rock analyses, PT-pseudosections were calculated and, together with the observed mineral assemblages and reaction textures, are used to reconstruct
PT-paths. For rocks from northern Samos, pseudomorphs after lawsonite preserved in garnet, the assemblage sodic amphibole-garnet-paragonite-chlorite-zoisite-quartz
and the retrograde appearance of albitic plagioclase and the formation of calcic amphibole around sodic amphibole constrain
a clockwise PT-path that reaches its thermal maximum at some 520 °C and 19 kbar. The derived PT-trajectory indicates cooling during exhumation of the rocks and is similar to paths for rocks from the western part of the
Attic-Cycladic crystalline complex. Rocks from eastern Samos indicate lower pressures and are probably related to high-pressure
rocks from the Menderes Massif in western Turkey.

An evaluation has been conducted to establish if using renewable energy is technically and economically feasible to pump water
in Sacala las Lomas, Guatemala. A deep groundwater well has been proposed and a multi-stage pump system is being considered
to distribute groundwater to users’ homes. A weather station was erected in Sacala to collect site-specific data. Wind velocity,
wind direction, solar insolation, temperature, precipitation, and barometric pressure data were collected over a 1-year study
period. The analysis of the data indicated that the potential power generated by a photovoltaic array or wind turbine would
be insufficient to economically pump water to the village under current conditions. Although there may be reasons other than
economics that make the potential renewable energy applications attractive, the space and maintenance required to install
and operate a sufficient off-grid system outweigh the benefits. A grid-intertie system would allow any number of solar panels
to be used in the system while still providing the electricity demand using grid-power. 相似文献

We have carried out a study of known clusters within the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS) observed areas and have identified 431 Abell, 173 APM and 343 EDCC clusters. Precise redshifts, velocity dispersions and new centroids have been measured for the majority of these objects, and this information is used to study the completeness of these catalogues, the level of contamination from foreground and background structures along the cluster's line of sight, the space density of the clusters as a function of redshift, and their velocity dispersion distributions. We find that the Abell and EDCC catalogues are contaminated at the level of about 10 per cent, whereas the APM catalogue suffers only 5 per cent contamination. If we use the original catalogue centroids, the level of contamination rises to approximately 15 per cent for the Abell and EDCC catalogues, showing that the presence of foreground and background groups may alter the richness of clusters in these catalogues. There is a deficiency of clusters at that may correspond to a large underdensity in the Southern hemisphere. From the cumulative distribution of velocity dispersions for these clusters, we derive a space density of clusters of This result is used to constrain models for structure formation; our data favour low-density cosmologies, subject to the usual assumptions concerning the shape and normalization of the power spectrum. 相似文献

The late Palaeozoic western Tianshan high‐pressure /low‐temperature belt extends for about 200 km along the south‐central Tianshan suture zone and is composed mainly of blueschist, eclogite and epidote amphibolite/greenschist facies rocks. P–T conditions of mafic garnet omphacite and garnet–omphacite blueschist, which are interlayered with eclogite, were investigated in order to establish an exhumation path for these high‐pressure rocks. Maximum pressure conditions are represented by the assemblage garnet–omphacite–paragonite–phengite–glaucophane–quartz–rutile. Estimated maximum pressures range between 18 and 21 kbar at temperatures between 490 and 570 °C. Decompression caused the destabilization of omphacite, garnet and glaucophane to albite, Ca‐amphibole and chlorite. The post‐eclogite facies metamorphic conditions between 9 and 14 kbar at 480–570 °C suggest an almost isothermal decompression from eclogite to epidote–amphibolite facies conditions. Prograde growth zoning and mineral inclusions in garnet as well as post‐eclogite facies conditions are evidence for a clockwise P–T path. Analysis of phase diagrams constrains the P–T path to more or less isothermal cooling which is well corroborated by the results of geothermobarometry and mineral textures. This implies that the high‐pressure rocks from the western Tianshan Orogen formed in a tectonic regime similar to ‘Alpine‐type’ tectonics. This contradicts previous models which favour ‘Franciscan‐type’ tectonics for the southern Tianshan high‐pressure rocks. 相似文献

The real-space power spectrum of L * galaxies measured from the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS) is presented. Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling was used to fit radial and angular modes resulting from a spherical harmonics decomposition of the 2dFGRS overdensity field (described in a previous paper) with 16 real-space power spectrum values and linear redshift-space distortion parameter β( L * , 0) . The recovered marginalized band powers are compared to previous estimates of galaxy power spectra. Additionally, we provide a simple model for the 17-dimensional likelihood hypersurface in order to allow the likelihood to be quickly estimated given a set of model band powers and β( L * , 0). The likelihood surface is not well approximated by a multivariate Gaussian distribution with model-independent covariances. Instead, a model is presented in which the distribution of each band power has a Gaussian distribution in a combination of the band power and its logarithm. The relative contribution of each component was determined by fitting the MCMC output. Using these distributions, we demonstrate how the likelihood of a given cosmological model can be quickly and accurately estimated, and we use a simple set of models to compare estimated likelihoods with likelihoods calculated using the full spherical harmonics procedure.
