Vertical turbulent fluxes of water vapour, carbon dioxide, and sensible heat were measured from 16 August to the 28 September
2006 near the city centre of Münster in north-west Germany. In comparison to results of measurements above homogeneous ecosystem
sites, the CO2 fluxes above the urban investigation area showed more peaks and higher variances during the course of a day, probably caused
by traffic and other varying, anthropogenic sources. The main goal of this study is the introduction and establishment of
a new gap filling procedure using radial basis function (RBF) neural networks, which is also applicable under complex environmental
conditions. We applied adapted RBF neural networks within a combined modular expert system of neural networks as an innovative
approach to fill data gaps in micrometeorological flux time series. We found that RBF networks are superior to multi-layer
perceptron (MLP) neural networks in the reproduction of the highly variable turbulent fluxes. In addition, we enhanced the
methodology in the field of quality assessment for eddy covariance data. An RBF neural network mapping system was used to
identify conditions of a turbulence regime that allows reliable quantification of turbulent fluxes through finding an acceptable
minimum of the friction velocity. For the data analysed in this study, the minimum acceptable friction velocity was found
to be 0.15 m s−1. The obtained CO2 fluxes, measured on a tower at 65 m a.g.l., reached average values of 12 μmol m−2 s−1 and fell to nighttime minimum values of 3 μmol m −2 s−1. Mean daily CO2 emissions of 21 g CO2 m−2d −1 were obtained during our 6-week experiment. Hence, the city centre of Münster appeared to be a significant source of CO2. The half-hourly average values of water vapour fluxes ranged between 0.062 and 0.989 mmol m−2 s−1and showed lower variances than the simultaneously measured fluxes of CO2. 相似文献

Data from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite sensors, the Microwave Imager (TMI, 3A12 V6) and other satellite sources (3B43 V6) have been used to derive the thunderstorm ratio β, total rain accumulation M, and 1-min rainfall rates, R1min, for 37 stations in Nigeria, for 0.001–1% of an average year, for the period 1998–2006. Results of the rain accumulations from the TRMM satellite (1998–2006) were compared with the data collected from 14 ground stations in Nigeria for the period 1991–2000. The two data sets are reasonably positively correlated, with correlation coefficients varying from 0.64 to 0.99. Deduced 1-min rainfall rates compared fairly well with the previous ground data of Ajayi and Ezekpo (1988. Development of climatic maps of rainfall rate and attenuation for microwave applications in Nigeria. The Nigerian Engineering 23(4), 13–30) with correlation coefficients varying from 0.17 to 0.97 in all 37 stations. The agreement was much better when compared with the International Telecommunications Union Radio communication Study group 3 digital maps with correlation coefficients varying from 0.84 to 0.98 in 23 locations; however there were negative correlation coefficient (of 0.2 in 7 stations) in the Middle Belt and a weak positive coefficient (of 0.09 in 6 stations) in the South South. Regionally the inferred mean annual 1-min rainfall rates are the highest in the South-East region with values between 111 and 125 mm/h throughout the 9 years, followed by the South-South region (105–124 mm/h). The lowest rainfall rate and rainfall accumulation occur in the North-West region (60–86 mm/h) followed, in ascending order, by the North-East (66–95 mm/h) region, the Middle-Belt region (76–102 mm/h) and the South-West region (77–110 mm/h). The present results were also compared with 9 tropical stations around the world and there was positive correlation between the results. The present results will be very useful for satellite rain attenuation modeling in the tropics and subtropical stations around the world.It is useful to note that one country, particularly one as large as Nigeria, can have significant variations in its rainfall characteristics for a variety of reasons, and this is borne out by the results presented. 相似文献

Remeasurements of weathering rates at six sites on the base of the balustrade of St. Paul's Cathedral gave substantially lower mean results (0.06 mm a?1, 1980–1985) than for earlier results (0.14 mm a?1, 1980–1981). Statistical analysis of the data showed that for five of the sites there were no significant differences between the measurement periods. The only significant spatial difference was for the southwest (exposed) site which was greater than the other sites for 1980–1981, but not at later times. This site also showed the only significant decrease over time. If this site is included in the statistical analysis, the whole set shows a significant decrease over time; omitting this site from the data removes any significant differences over time. The results for this one site for 1980–1981 thus have significant bias on the data body as a whole. Methodological problems, such as rock erosion by the probe and temperature effects, are thought to have minimal effect on the interpretation of the data. Calibrations showed that measurements were accurate to ±0.006 mm and that only results of a change ≥ 0.02 mm were reliably interpretable as different. Remeasurements of the Lead Plug Index (LPI) for the top of the balustrade in 1987 gave a mean rate for 1718–1985 of 0.081 mm a?1. This is not significantly different from the 1718–1980 mean rate of 0.078 mm a?1 but the data are not directly comparable, the 1987 sample being smaller than the 1980 set. For the 1987 data, the only statistically significant differences are for the southeast rate ≧ northeast and for a rise in rate in the northeast quadrant. The LPI data are comparable to most of the 1980–1985 MEM data. The conclusion is that most erosion rates have neither increased nor decreased significantly in the measurement time, except for a significant decrease at one (southwest) site from 1980–1981 to 1981–1982. Such a sustained level of erosion gives cause for concern in the context of stone conservation. Causative factors of air quality are discussed and while SO2 levels have decreased, NO2 and smoke levels show increases. An overall decrease in stone decay in association with the decrease in SO2 levels is thus not in evidence. 相似文献

Evidence for the functioning of macropores and the presence of preferential flow in forest soils is equivocal. This is partly because many workers use only one diagnostic technique to indicate whether or not macropore flow occurs. In this paper three lines of evidence are used to suggest that preferential flow does not occur in the percolating waters of a coniferous forest soil under the range of hydrological conditions that prevail in the field. To simulate field conditions, realistic rainfall intensities were used in conservative solute transport experiments on four undisturbed soil columns. A method is described in which breakthrough data can be used to calculate the percentage of antecedent water displaced from a soil column during frontal-type breakthrough experiments. Calculations based on this method using the experimental data show that as little as five percent of the antecedent water was immobile. The simple form of the functional advection–dispersion equation, based on a single value for linear velocity and the dispersion coefficient was fitted to two of the breakthrough curves with reasonable accuracy, further suggesting that preferential flow did not occur in the experiments. Finally, soil moisture characteristic curves were determined for replicate soil samples from the forest soil. The operational water contents of the columns during the breakthrough experiments were compared with the soil moisture characteristics and it was found that pores exerting pressure heads greater than −0·5 kPa did not appear to contribute to flow through the columns, again suggesting an absence of preferential flow. © 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

Marine transgression onto the South American continent took place at least twice in the Miocene along distinct paleogeographic corridors. The first event occurred between 15 and 13 Ma and the second between 10 and 5? Ma. Each event has particular dominant variables (tectonism, eustacy, sediment accumulation rate) that permitted the preservation of the record and development of the sea on the continent. The 15–13 Ma transgression was tectonically and eustatically controlled, flooding older sedimentary accommodation zones on the South American plate during a global high sea level, whereas the 105? Ma event was predominantly tectonically controlled, generated by tectonic loading created in the Cordillera Oriental fold-and-thrust belt. A new 7.72±0.31 Ma 40Ar/39Ar date from the Río Parapetí in Bolivia suggests that the 15–13 Ma transgression registered in Argentina produced no continental connection to the Caribbean transgression, registered in Bolivia, because of temporal constraints. 相似文献

A 90 s time resolution study of the soft X-ray emission from three active region loops shows the emission to be constant to about two percent over the half hour period of observation. Soft X-ray observations in two wavebands are used to deduce the temperature and density of these loops. The data unambiguously demonstrate that energy is supplied to each loop during the observations. —?We present an attempt to compare modeled ground-motion acceleration fields with macroseismic observations. Two techniques for the representation of the observed intensities by isoseismals, a smoothing technique and one which visualizes the local uncertainty of an isoseismal, are tested with synthetic and observed data. We show how noise in the data and irregularities in the distribution of observation sites affect the resolution of the isoseismal's shape. In addition to “standard” elongated shapes, we identify cross-like patterns in the macroseismic observations for two Italian earthquakes of strike-slip type; similar patterns are displayed by the theoretical peak acceleration fields calculated assuming the point source models given in the literature. 相似文献

The Machinga meteorite fell in the Southern Province of Malawi on January 22, 1981, at approximately 1000 hours local time. The fall site is about 7.5 km SW of Machinga and has the co-ordinates 15° 12′44″ S., 35°14′32″ E. A single crusted mass weighing 93.2 kg was recovered. The Machinga meteorite is an L6 chondrite with olivine Fa24.5 and orthopyroxene Fs21.1. The silicates have a granular texture and the stone has been shocked. 相似文献
