This work investigates the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics in modified f(R) Horava–Lifshitz gravity proposed by Chaichian et al. (Class. Quantum Grav. 27: 185021, 2010), which is invariant under foliation-preserving diffeomorphisms. It has been observed that the equation of state parameter behaves like quintessence (w>−1). We study the thermodynamics of the apparent, event and particle horizons in this modified gravity. We observe that under this gravity, the time derivative of total entropy stays at positive level and hence the generalized second law is validated. 相似文献

Tropical cyclones are the most devastating natural calamity forming in the ocean bed and die out in land. The life cycle of a tropical cyclone is mainly classified into four stages: (a) formation or genesis stage, (b) intensification stage, (c) mature stage and (d) decay stage. The intensification and mature stages are also known as tropical storm and cyclone (hurricane) stage, respectively. To develop the model of tropical cyclone we have taken the momentum conservation equation, equation of continuity and equation of hydrostatic balance in cylindrical coordinate system. Also the equation of state and the equation relating the velocity component and stream function are taken into account. We have assumed a suitable analytic form of the radial component of velocity as a function of radial distance (r) from the axis of the cyclone and vertical distance (z) from the sea bed. So in our model we have taken a cyclone as a rotating cylinder. With the use of the expression of the radial component velocity we have solved the governing nonlinear equation in the cylindrical coordinate system of a cyclone using ‘Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin approximation’ and estimated the transverse velocity on the sea bed and in the vicinity of the eye wall of the cyclone. From the results we also get a path to generalize the tropical cyclone model as a vortex which is a generating curve of a cyclone. We also determine the vertical component of velocity of the cyclone. In this work we define a new parameter called the cyclone stability parameter (CSP). The CSP helps to determine the stability of a tropical cyclone from its genesis. 相似文献

The Luconia Province—offshore Sarawak—is a key hydrocarbon province in Malaysia. However, the gas reservoirs in Central Luconia pose unique problems and challenges as they have partially water-filled microporosity that overprint wireline logs. Microporosity in Central Luconia occurs throughout the Miocene carbonates and is a crucial element that influences fluid flow properties and ultimately the recovery of hydrocarbons. Quantification of macroporosity was achieved using petrographic analysis of thin sections and the FESEM images. The point counting technique was used to estimate the amount of macroporosity from the thin section, which was then subtracted from the total porosity to derive microporosity. The qualitative investigation of the Miocene carbonates indicates the presence of three different types of microporosity namely grain-based microporosity, matrix-based microporosity, and cement-based microporosity. Quantification of microporosity showed that the microporosity varies from sample to sample, ranging from 10 to 60% of the total measured porosity. The depositional texture, mineralogy, and microtexture control this microporosity variation including its abundance and type. The microporosity in Central Luconia is diagenetically controlled based on four major diagenetic mechanisms namely (1) mechanical process/endolithic grains/marine diagenesis; (2) leaching/meteoric diagenesis; (3) cementation/shallow diagenesis; and (4) deeper diagenesis environment. 相似文献

Black sands rich in chromian spinel commonly occur in pockets along the eastern shoreline of Andaman Island where various types of peridotites and volcanics belonging to the Andaman ophiolite suite are exposed in close vicinity. The chemistry of these detrital chromian spinels has been extensively used here in identifying the source rocks vis-à-vis deciphering the source characteristics. The composition of the chromian spinels (Cr#: 0.20–0.88, Mg#: 0.26–0.77, Al 2 O 3: 5.04–48.21 wt.%, TiO 2: up to 1.39 wt.% and Fe 2+/Fe 3+: 1.73–9.12) varies widely signifying multiple sources, of which mantle peridotites and volcanic rocks are relevant in an ophiolitic terrain. The volcanic chromian spinels are relatively fresh, commonly euhedral, sometimes with compositional variations, and contain inclusions in contrast to the mantle peridotitic chromian spinels which are rounded, extensively fractured, and altered. We used a number of geochemical bivariate plots in order to know the provenance protoliths. The volcanic chromian spinels show geochemical characters of MORB, related to spreading centers (either MOR or back-arc) and also boninites/arc-tholeiites, related to active subduction. On the other hand, the peridotitic spinels indicate partially depleted lherzolite and depleted harzburgite source of the ophiolite suite. 相似文献

The theory of velocity dependent inertial induction, based upon extended Mach’s principle, has been able to generate many interesting results related to celestial mechanics and cosmological problems. Because of the extremely minute magnitude of the effect its presence can be detected through the motion of accurately observed bodies like Earth satellites. LAGEOS I and II are medium altitude satellites with nearly circular orbits. The motions of these satellites are accurately recorded and the past data of a few decades help to test many theories including the general theory of relativity. Therefore, it is hoped that the effect of the Earth’s inertial induction can have any detectable effect on the motion of these satellites. It is established that the semi-major axis of LAGEOS I is decreasing at the rate of 1.3 mm/d. As the atmospheric drag is negligible at that altitude, a proper explanation of the secular change has been wanting, and, therefore, this paper examines the effect of the Earth’s inertial induction effect on LAGEOS I. Past researches have established that Yarkovsky thermal drag, charged and neutral particle drag might be the possible mechanisms for this orbital decay. Inertial induction is found to generate a perturbing force that results in 0.33 mm/d decay of the semi major axis. Some other changes are also predicted and the phenomenon also helps to explain the observed changes in the orbits of a few other satellites. The results indicate the feasibility of the theory of inertial induction i.e. the dynamic gravitation phenomenon of the Earth on its satellites as a possible partial cause for orbital decay. 相似文献

The propagation of nonlinear waves in a quantum plasma is studied. A quantum magnetohydrodynamic (QHD) model is used to take into account the effects of quantum force associated with the Bohm potential. Using the standard reductive perturbation technique, nonlinear Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) equation is obtained to study the properties of ion acoustic waves (IAWs). The concept of oscillatory Universe appears to be realistic and buried in the dynamic dark energy equation of state. We explore its evolutionary history under the framework of general relativity. We observe that oscillations do not go unnoticed with such an equation of state and that their effects persist later on in cosmic evolution. The ‘classical’ general relativity seems to retain the past history of oscillatory Universe in the form of increasing scale factor as the classical thermodynamics retains this history in the form of increasing cosmological entropy. 相似文献

A Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation with a linear Landau damping term describing weakly nonlinear and weakly dispersive ion-acoustic
waves in an electron-positron-ion plasma is derived. It is found that the Landau damping causes the solitary wave amplitude
to decay with time. It is also found that in absence of Landau damping, both linear wave phase velocity and solitary wave
amplitude decrease with the increase of positron density, whereas, both increase with the increase of positron temperature.

Many granitic bodies intrude the basement gneisses in Meghalaya Plateau, Northeast India. Rb-Sr whole-rock isotopic ages of the granitoids range from 881 to 479 Ma while the ages of the basement orthogneisses vary from 1714 to 1150 Ma. All the plutons are dominantly metaluminous and show geochemical variation. Oxygen isotopic compositions in the granitoids and gneisses are concordant (d18O: + 5.78% to + 8.70%). However, the gneisses from high-grade terrain have low d18O value of +2.52% to +5.31%. Initial 87Sr/86Sr (ISr) ratios of the plutons vary from 0.70459 to 0.71487 and tend to increase with progressive younging in age. The geochemical characters suggest derivation of the granites from lower crustal source. The fractionated rare earth patterns observed in the granitoids can be obtained by partial melting of gneisses or diorites. Some gneiss samples have experienced interaction with hydrothermal fluids resulting in lowering d18O. The isotopic ages of granite plutonism in Meghalaya are similar to the plutonic and tectonothermal events in other parts of India, southwestern Australia and document final amalgamation events of the Gondwana Supercontinent. 相似文献
