Detailed hydrogeological studies in a granitic micro-watershed have been carried out to determine the extent, behavior, and
characteristics of the aquifer. The study includes analysis of lithologs, drill time log, pumping tests, and slug tests. Realistic
field conditions have been taken into account for characterizing the aquifer system. Slug tests were carried out to estimate
aquifer parameters at the wells which could not sustain pumping.

Many decision-making processes in the Earth sciences require the combination of multiple data originating from diverse sources.
These data are often indirect and uncertain, and their combination would call for a probabilistic approach. These data are
also partially redundant with each other or with all others taken jointly. This overlap in information arises due to a variety
of reasons—because the data arises from the same geology, because they originate from the same location or the same measurement
device, etc. The proposed tau model combines partially redundant data, each taking the form of a prior probability for the
event being assessed to occur given that single datum. The parameters of that tau model measure the additional contribution
brought by any single datum over that of all previously considered data; they are data sequence-dependent and also data value-dependent.
Data redundancy depends on the sequence in which the data is considered and also on the data values themselves. However, for
a given sequence, averaging the tau model parameters over all possible data values leads to exact analytical expressions and
corresponding approximations and inference avenues. Information on multiple-point connectivity of permeability arrives from
core data, well-test data and seismic data which are defined over varying supports with complex redundancy between these information
sources. In order to compute these tau weights for determining connectivity, one needs a model of data redundancy, here expressed
as a vectorial training image (Ti) constructed using a prior conceptual knowledge of geology and the physics of data measurement.
From such a vectorial Ti, the tau weights can be computed exactly. Neglecting data redundancy leads to an over-compounding
of individual data information and the possible risk of making extreme decisions. 相似文献

In the analysis of water quality by remote sensing, it is widely reported, that, several parameters of water quality are correlated with the reflectances and the ratios of reflectances of the water body in different spectral bands. In this paper, it is shown empirically, that, the pairwise product of the reflectances in different bands is better correlated than the bands and their ratios. Rational Function Model (RFM) is the alternate sensor Model to the rigorous sensor model that allows end user to perform sensor-independent
photogrammetric processing. Nowadays, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) digital photogrammetric work stations have incorporated
RFM as a method for image restitution. It is technically applicable to all types of airborne and space borne sensors. In this
paper, we describe the derivations of the algorithmic procedure for third order inverse and forward RFM method for 3-D reconstruction.
Model accuracy is evaluated for aerial image, TK-350 Russian image and IRS-1C PAN image. The results ensure that properly
constructed RFM are accurate enough to be used in place of the original rigorous models. The test results are reported and

Modelling soil erosion requires an equation for predicting the sediment transport capacity by interrill overland flow on rough surfaces. The conventional practice of partitioning total shear stress into grain and form shear stress and predicting transport capacity using grain shear stress lacks rigour and is prone to underestimation. This study therefore explores the possibility that inasmuch as surface roughness affects flow hydraulic variables which, in turn, determine transport capacity, there may be one or more hydraulic variables which capture the effect of surface roughness on transport capacity suffciently well for good predictions of transport capacity to be achieved from data on these variables alone. To investigate this possibility, regression analyses were performed on data from 1506 flume experiments in which discharge, slope, water temperature, rainfall intensity, and roughness size, shape and concentration were varied. The analyses reveal that 89·8 per cent of the variance in transport capacity can be accounted for by excess flow power and flow depth. Including roughness size and concentration in the regression improves that explained variance by only 3·5 per cent. Evidently, flow depth, when used in combination with excess flow power, largely captures the effect of surface roughness on transport capacity. This finding promises to simplify greatly the task of developing a general sediment equation for interrill overland flow on rough surfaces. Copyright © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

Remotely sensed data can provide useful information in understanding the distribution of groundwater, an important source
of water supply throughout the world. In the present study, the modern geomatic technologies, namely remote sensing and GIS
were used in the identification of groundwater potential zones in the Kanyakumari and Nambiyar basins of Tamil Nadu in India.
The multivariate statistical technique was used to find out the relationship between rainfall and groundwater resource characteristics.
It has been found out that groundwater not only depends upon rainfall, but various other factors also influence its occurrence.
Eight such parameters were considered and multi criterion analysis has been carried out in order to find out the potential
zones. Accordingly, it had been concluded that the Kanyakumari river basin has more ground water potential, whereas the Nambiyar
basin has less potential. Thus surface investigation of groundwater has proved to be easier, time consistent and cheaper using

Meteorological drought during the southwest monsoon season and for the northeast monsoon season over five meteorological subdivisions of India for the period 1901–2015 has been examined using district and all India standardized precipitation index (SPI). Whenever all India southwest monsoon rainfall was less than ?10% or below normal, for those years all India SPI was found as ?1 or less. Composite analysis of SPI for the below normal years, viz., less than ?15% and ?20% of normal rainfall years indicate that during those years more than 30% of country’s area was under drought condition, whenever all India southwest monsoon rainfall was –15% or less than normal. Trend analysis of monthly SPI for the monsoon months identified the districts experiencing significant increase in drought occurrences. Significant positive correlation has been found with the meteorological drought over most of the districts of central, northern and peninsular India, while negative correlation was seen over the districts of eastern India with NINO 3.4 SST. For the first time, meteorological drought analysis over districts and its association with equatorial pacific SST and probability analysis has been done for the northeast monsoon over the affected regions of south peninsular India. Temporal correlation of all India southwest monsoon SPI and south peninsular India northeast monsoon SPI has been done with the global SST to identify the teleconnection of drought in India with global parameters. 相似文献

Storms from the Arabian Sea are the most significant meteorological feature in western India that brings extreme rainy days together with catastrophic flooding. The present study reports two such palaeo-storm horizons at 1.16 m and 3.2 m above the present day water level in the Narmada channel, 56 km inland based on sedimentology and foraminiferal records. Both the horizons show similar sediment facies and foraminiferal assemblage. The present findings instigate to look for such new sites and build palaeo-storm records for western India. 相似文献
