This research shows the viability of using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) stations from Brazilian active networks in monitoring the ionosphere. Various indexes of ionospheric irregularities and scintillation of GNSS signals, estimated in real-time and post-processed from GNSS data, are explored for this purpose. This way, an increase in the spatial resolution of ionospheric information is provided, allowing the generation of maps of scintillation and irregularities in observing the spatial and temporal behavior of the layer’s activity cycle, since the number of ionosondes, imagers, and radars is insufficient for monitoring the irregularities in Brazil. Experiments to evaluate the estimates of the indexes are performed for periods of high and low variability of electrons. Three Brazilian networks are used: the Brazilian Network for Continuous Monitoring (RBMC), the GNSS Active Network of Sao Paulo State (GNSS-SP), and CIGALA/CALIBRA. The results are compared with data from ionosondes and PolaRxS-PRO Septentrio receivers, proving compatible with moderate to high correlations. An analysis of the seasonal variation during the peak of solar cycle 24 is carried out. The maps allow identifying the displacement of ionospheric irregularities along the magnetic equator over Brazil, from northeast to southwest, starting at 7:00 pm and ending at 2:00 am local time. Real-time monitoring is carried out for the summer solstice in the southern hemisphere, and results are consistent with those from the post-processed mode. The indexes and maps can be applied to the analysis of GNSS positioning. Real-time ionospheric information can be used in important practical applications because the displacement monitoring of irregularities allows prior knowledge of whether there will be a deterioration of positioning accuracy in a certain region.  相似文献

The loss of coherence of seismic waves, even over small distances, can become significant and consequently important for engineering applications. This coherence loss depends on several parameters (frequency, inter-station distance), but their dependencies are not well understood yet. We show the results of a detailed analysis of the spatial variability of the coherence between two signals. This analysis is based on a simple model which is an exponential function of inter-station distance and frequency. Data from a temporary network of 36 weak-motion instruments installed at the EURO-SEISTEST site, north-east of Thessaloniki (Greece), is used in this work. The data offers the unique possibility to study the loss of coherence over a wide range of distances, as the inter-station distances are between 8 m and 5488 m. We test the influence on the coherence of the length of the time-window of the signals, of the type of the waves present in the time-window and of the common energy of the signals. We also show that, at least at this particular site, the loss of coherence with distance is probably marked by a "cross over" distance, distinguishing two different ranges: one for inter-station distances up to 100 m and the other above 100 m. Finally, we find that the coherence determined from noise recordings behaves in a rather similar way to the one determined from coda-waves and more stationary (longer) signals. Therefore, noise can be useful for a rough, but quick estimation of the loss of coherence, at least for inter-station distances larger than 100 m.  相似文献

The Vazante Group consists of Precambrian carbonate-dominated platform deposits that extend along more than 300 km in the external zone of the Brasilia Fold Belt of the São Francisco Basin in east central Brazil. The sequence is about 4.8 km thick and contains a preserved glaciomarine diamictite unit (containing dropstone) at the top and a lower diamictite unit at the bottom. Previous C- and Sr-isotope profiles suggested the correlation of the upper diamictite unit with the “Sturtian” glacial event (ca. 750–643 Ma). However, new Re–Os isotope data from the shales associated with the upper diamictites yield radiometric age estimates between 993 ± 46 and 1100 ± 77 Ma. U–Pb measurements on a suite of clear euhedral zircon crystals that were separated from the same shales associated with the upper diamictite and from the arkosic sandstone above the lower diamictite yield ages as young as 988 ± 15 and 1000 ± 25 Ma, respectively. Based on the Re–Os and U–Pb ages, the best age estimate of the Vazante Group is constrained to be 1000–1100 Ma and thus the two diamictite units are not correlative with the Sturtian glaciation(s) but most likely are records of glacial events that occurred during the late Mesoproterozoic.  相似文献

Several major iron deposits occur in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero (QF), southeastern region of Brazil, where metamorphosed and heterogeneously deformed banded iron formation (BIF) of the Cauê Formation, regionally called itabirite, was transformed into high- (Fe >64%) and low-grade (30%?2O3, with a higher amount of detrimental impurities, especially MnO, in the soft ore. Both hard and soft ores are depleted in trace elements. The high-grade ores at the Águas Claras Mine have at least a dual origin, involving hypogene and supergene processes. The occurrence of the hard, massive high-grade ore within “fresh” dolomitic itabirite is evidence of its hypogene origin. Despite the contention about the origin of the dolomitic itabirite (if this rock is a carbonate-rich facies of the Cauê Formation or a hematite–carbonate precursor of the soft high-grade ore), mineralogical and geochemical features of the soft high-grade ore indicate that it was formed by leaching of dolomite from the dolomitic itabirite by meteoric water. The comparison of the Águas Claras, Capão Xavier and Tamanduá orebodies shows that the original composition of the itabiritic protore plays a major role in the genesis of high- and low-grade soft ores in the QF. Under the same weathering and structural conditions, the dolomitic itabirite is the more favorable to form high-grade deposits than siliceous itabirite. Field relations at the Águas Claras and Capão Xavier deposits suggest that it is not possible to form huge soft high-grade supergene deposits from siliceous itabirite, unless another control, such as impermeable barriers, had played an important role. The occurrence in the Tamanduá Mine of a large, soft, high-grade orebody formed from siliceous itabirite and closely associated with hypogene hard ore suggests that large, soft, high-grade orebodies of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero, which occur within siliceous itabirite, have a hypogene contribution in their formation.  相似文献
