A simple friction–contact interface element is introduced which simulates frictional slippage, separation, and re-bonding of two bodies initially mating at a common interface and subsequently deforming with an arbitrary static loading schedule. Constraint equations between initially mating node pairs and the general principle of virtual work are used to formulate the interface element for a finite element solution procedure. Some advantages of the interface element include; easy implementation intostandard finite element programs, direct determination of interface forces without round-off problems, and the generality afforded by the virtual work formulation to include other non-conservative models in the system. The application of the interface element to an idealized buried culvert problem illustrates that the model behaves properly. A second application, for a long-span culvert installation with incremental soil loading, demonstrates the importance of modelling slippage at the culvert–soil interface in order to conform with experimental observations. 相似文献

Analysis of the chlorine, fluorine and water content of approximately 200 samples from a total of fourteen mineralized and ten barren intrusive rocks from the Caribbean and Central America indicates that abundances of these constituents fail to distinguish mineralized rocks from barren rocks. Variations in background abundances arise from the increase in halogen content of potassium-rich rocks and from the depletion of halogens in altered and porphyritic rocks. A particularly well developed potassium-fluorine covariance is observed in tin-bearing granites, but such a covariance cannot be used to distinguish intrusive rocks associated with porphyry copper mineralization. 相似文献

The Balderton Terrace marks a former course of the River Trent between Newark and the Lincoln Gap. The principal deposit, the Balderton Sand and Gravel, is interpreted as a braided river sediment. Ice wedge casts truncated by intraformational erosion surfaces at many levels indicate syndepositional permafrost. Remnant cover deposits overlying the Balderton Sand and Gravel include the partly aeolian Whisby Sand. Locally, both the upper part of the Balderton Sand and Gravel and the cover deposits exhibit features indicative of temperate climate pedogenesis. All these deposits are affected by subsequent cryoturbation. On the basis of these features and the geomorphological and topographical relationship to other terrace deposits of the area, the Balderton Sand and Gravel and Whisby Sand are regarded as post-Hoxnian and pre-lpswichian, i.e. Wolstonian. Electron spin resonance age determinations for fossil elephant teeth and amino acid analyses on molluscs from the Balderton Sand and Gravel suggest correlation with Oxygen Isotope Stage 6. The Balderton Sand and Gravel has yielded a cold-climate mammalian fauna dominated by woolly mammoth and woolly rhinoceros, though rarer species suggest periods of milder climate. Silts from channels near the base of the deposit have produced pollen, mollusc, ostracod and beetle assemblages also indicating a cold climate. 相似文献

An ion-exchange technique was used to concentrate ammonia from seawater. Precipitation of bivalent cations, prior to concentration, reduced the variability of ammonia recovery from the ion-exchange column and lengthened column life. Analysis of the eluate was by the phenolhypochlorite reaction. The method was designed for use with small seawater samples (>10ml) and has the advantage that it can be adapted for use with small volumes of seawater with no loss in sensitivity. Accepted practice dictates that waterflooding of gas reservoirs should commence, if ever, only when the reservoir pressure has declined to the minimum production pressure. Analytical proof of this hypothesis has yet to appear in the literature however. The model for bed formation by Kolmogorov consists of an unending sequence of alternating periods of deposition and erosion of sediments, with the amounts of deposition and erosion being independent random variables. This paper examines this model in relation to recent mathematical studies that are relevant to, and simplify, the analysis of the thickness of the bed that remains after the sequence is operated for a long time. This thickness obeys the exponential probability law when the amounts of deposition and erosion also obey the exponential law distributed. For the discrete version formulated by Schwarzacher, the thickness obeys the geometric probability law when the amounts of deposition and erosion obey the geometric law. 相似文献

Methods used for the estimation of analytical precision commonly suffer from two deficiencies which give rise to misleading results. These are: (1) the methods take no account of changes in absolute or relative error over the concentration range, and (2) they tend for other reasons to produce optimistically-biassed results. The difficulties can be avoided by the correct use of duplicate determinations. One method presented allows precision parameters to be estimated.
