Geothermal power seems to be a potential source of green energy in India. But these renewable energy resources are still ignored in India even after having a lot of potential sources as seen in more than 300 hot springs scattered throughout different geothermal areas of the country. Many of them could be utilized for power generation using the earth’s internal heat. More hours are needed to explore these geothermal areas using geochemical, geophysical techniques, and statistical analysis to qualitatively estimate power harnessing capabilities and sustainability of the areas for generation of geothermal power. In the present paper, attention has been focused to investigate Bakreswar geothermal field of India by continuous (24*7) and online monitoring of terrestrial gases such as He and radioactive gases (222Rn) in hot spring emanations of the geothermal area for more than 5 years along with discrete measurement of some other geochemical and geophysical parameters. The discrete measures imply that the seven hot spring vents at the study area are linked to the aquifer through different ways covering non-uniform rock assemblies and ascertain the presence of high amount of radioactive minerals at the underneath terrains. Stable activities with a high-out flux of 222Rn and He for a prolonged time period is expected within the reservoir present at the study area as consequence of analysis of the temporal variations and statistical measures of the continuous data sets. Seasonal variation of time series data also recommends that the high amount of radioactive sources present at the crust of the reservoir is able to produce enough quantity of heat irrespective of meteorological effects. The investigation on the power spectra interferes that the geothermal system is still in quite active phase on the influence of tectonic activities. Therefore, the geothermal reservoir present at the Bakreswar geothermal area may be utilized as a constant and continuous heat source for a long time period to run a geothermal power plant.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung In Fortsetzung einer früheren Arbeit (Chatterjee, 1962) werden weitere Beispiele vesuvianführender Paragenesen aus der Grünschieferfazies Bowie aus der Albit-Epidot-Hornfelsfazies beschrieben. Hieraus ergibt sich, daß die Paragenesen Vesuvian + Epidot, Vesuvian + Tremolit und Vesuvian + Chlorit für die niedrig-temperierten Mineralfazies kennzeichnend sind, und zwar unabhängig vom wirksamen Gesamtdruck. Die Bildungsmöglichkeiten des Vesuvians und seine Umbildungen bei stärkerer Metamorphose werden anhand von stöchiometrischen Reaktionsgleichungen behandelt. Die Reaktionen Bind schematisch in ACF-Diagrammen dargestellt, und die Gleichgewichtstemperaturen sind qualitativ in Abhängigkeit von der Zusammensetzung der Gasphase mit Hilfe einer vonGreenwood (1962) aufgestellten thermodynamischen Beziehung abgeleitet.
In continuation of a former paper (Chatterjee, 1962), further data pertaining to vesuvianite-bearing mineral parageneses from the greenschist fades of the western Alps, albite-epidote-hornfels facies of eastern Harz Mountains as well as from the hornblende hornfels facies of the Oslo region are reported. It is shown that the coexistence of vesuvianite-epidote, vesuvianite-tremolite and vesuvianite-chlorite is characteristic of the lower temperature mineral facies, irrespective of the different total pressures acting during the metamorphism. Metamorphic reactions have been derived to explain the formation of vesuvianite, successive changes of the critical parageneses as well as its final disappearence within the system CaO-(Mg, Fe2+)O-(Al, Fe3+)2O3-SiO2-H2O ± CO2. The phase transformations are illustrated on ACF diagrams as a function of temperature and mole fraction CO2 of the gaseous phase (in an isobaric section).

A finite volume-based numerical modeling framework using a hierarchical fracture representation (HFR) has been developed to compute flow-induced shear failure. To accurately capture the mechanics near fracture manifolds, discontinuous basis functions are employed which ensure continuity of the displacement gradient across fractures. With these special basis functions, traction and compressive forces on the fracture segment can be calculated without any additional constraints, which is extremely useful for estimating the irreversible displacement along the fracture (slip) based on a constitutive friction law. The method is further extended to include slip-dependent hydraulic aperture change and grid convergent results are obtained. Further, the change in hydraulic aperture is modeled using an asymptotic representation which respects the experimentally observed behavior of pore volume dilation due to shear slip. The model allows the initial rapid increase in hydraulic aperture due to shear slip and asymptotically approaches a finite value after repeated shearing of a fracture segment. This aperture increase is the only feedback for mechanics into the fluid flow for a linear elastic mechanics problem. The same model is also extended to include poroelastic relations between flow and mechanics solver. The grid convergence result in the case of poroelastic flow-mechanics coupling for flow-induced shear failure is also obtained. This proves the robustness of the numerical and analytical modeling of fracture and friction in the extended finite volume method (XFVM) set-up. Finally, a grid convergent result for seismic moment magnitude for single fracture and fracture network with random initial hydraulic and friction properties is also obtained. The b-value, which represents the slope of seismic moment occurrence frequency decay vs seismic moment magnitude, which is approximately constant in a semi-logarithmic plot, is estimated. The numerical method leads to converged b-values for both single fracture and fracture network simulations, as grid and time resolutions are increased. For the resulting linear system, a sequential approach is used, that is, first, the flow and then the mechanics problems are solved. The new modeling framework is very useful to predict seismicity, permeability, and flow evolution in geological reservoirs. This is demonstrated with numerical simulations of enhancing a geothermal system.  相似文献

The present paper deals with pre-seismic soil radon-222 recorded at two different locations 200 m apart, at Jadavpur University main campus, Kolkata, India. Solid state nuclear track detector method is used for detection of the radioactive radon gas. Two simultaneous 4-month long time series data have been analysed. Anomalous fluctuations in the radon datasets have been observed prior to recent earthquakes in Nepal and eastern India during the monitoring period, mainly, the massive 25th April 7.8 M Nepal earthquake. The simultaneous measurements assist in identifying seismogenic radon precursor efficiently.  相似文献

Occurences of stable vesuvianite-epidote paragenesis within greenschist facies of metamorphism are described. It is suggested that this paragenesis gives way to grossularite-diopside (plus vesuvianiteor epidote) assemblage in the almandine-amphibolite facies. This interpretation conforms best to the results of petrographic observations and also satisfies the topological requirements of the CaO-(Mg, Fe2+, Mn)O-(Al, Fe3+)2O3-SiO2H2O-CO2 system, to which these assemblages belong. Contrary to the ideas in vogue, it is suggested that vesuvianite can very well originate within the greenschist facies, whereas the appearence of grossularite and diopside (consequent on which vesuvianite and epidote becomesmutually incompatible) ushers the almandine-amphibolite facies in.  相似文献

Ambient concentrations of organic carbon (OC), elemental carbon (EC) and water soluble inorganic ionic components (WSIC) of PM10 were studied at Giridih, Jharkhand, a sub-urban site near the Indo Gangatic Plain (IGP) of India during two consecutive winter seasons (November 2011–February 2012 and November 2012–February 2013). The abundance of carbonaceous and water soluble inorganic species of PM10 was recorded at the study site of Giridih. During winter 2011–12, the average concentrations of PM10, OC, EC and WSIC were 180.2?±?46.4; 37.2?±?6.2; 15.2?±?5.4 and 18.0?±?5.1 μg m?3, respectively. Similar concentrations of PM10, OC, EC and WSIC were also recorded during winter 2012–13. In the present case, a positive linear trend is observed between OC and EC at sampling site of Giridih indicates the coal burning, as well as dispersed coal powder and vehicular emissions may be the source of carbonaceous aerosols. The principal components analysis (PCA) also identifies the contribution of coal burning? +?soil dust, vehicular emissions?+?biomass burning and seconday aerosol to PM10 mass concentration at the study site. Backward trajectoy and potential source contributing function (PSCF) analysis indicated that the aerosols being transported to Giridih from upwind IGP (Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar) and surrounding region.  相似文献

Cyclone Sidr, a Category 4 storm, struck the southwestern coast of Bangladesh on November 15, 2007, causing 3,406 deaths, 2.51 million acres of crop damage, and aggregated damage of US$1.7 billion. It significantly damaged household food availability and increased post-cyclone nutritional insecurity. This study assesses the nutritional status of household and explores influences of various socioeconomic variables on nutritional security. More specifically, it explores the impact of the cyclone on short-term nutritional status of women of reproductive age and children under 5?years. For this study, 331 households living in three villages devastated by Cyclone Sidr were selected. The nutritional status of women of reproductive age was measured based on body mass index, and that of children aged 6?C59?months was measured based on weight-for-height (wasting), height-for-age (stunting), and weight-for-age (underweight). This study found that the nutritional status, along with other household characteristics, of the study groups was not remarkably different across the three selected villages. Findings of this study further suggest that the nutritional security situation was not much changed in the post-cyclone period compared with the pre-cyclone period primarily because of rapid and effective distribution of essential food items among cyclone survivors by the government of Bangladesh along with donor and other organizations. However, nutritional insecurity was more prevalent in the island village relative to inland and coastline villages. Similarly, fishermen were found to be the most vulnerable to nutritional insecurity in the post-cyclone period. Several recommendations are made to improve food aid distribution in the aftermath of a cyclone.  相似文献

In this paper, a numerical model to predict flow‐induced shear failure along pre‐existing fractures is presented. The framework is based on a discrete fracture representation embedded in a continuum describing the damaged matrix. A finite volume method is used to compute both flow and mechanical equilibrium, whereas specifically tailored basis functions are used to account for the physics at discontinuities. The failure criterion is based on a maximum shear strength limit, which changes with varying compressive stress on the fracture manifold. The displacements along fracture manifolds are obtained such that force balance is achieved under conditions, where shear stress of the failing fracture segment is constrained to the maximum shear strength at the segment. Simultaneously, the fluid pressure is computed independently of the shear slip. A relaxation model approach is used to obtain the maximum shear limit on the fracture manifold, which leads to grid convergence.  相似文献

Performance of four mesoscale models namely, the MM5, ETA, RSM and WRF, run at NCMRWF for short range weather forecasting has been examined during monsoon-2006. Evaluation is carried out based upon comparisons between observations and day-1 and day-3 forecasts of wind, temperature, specific humidity, geopotential height, rainfall, systematic errors, root mean square errors and specific events like the monsoon depressions.It is very difficult to address the question of which model performs best over the Indian region? An honest answer is ‘none’. Perhaps an ensemble approach would be the best. However, if we must make a final verdict, it can be stated that in general, (i) the WRF is able to produce best All India rainfall prediction compared to observations in the day-1 forecast and, the MM5 is able to produce best All India rainfall forecasts in day-3, but ETA and RSM are able to depict the best distribution of rainfall maxima along the west coast of India, (ii) the MM5 is able to produce least RMSE of wind and geopotential fields at most of the time, and (iii) the RSM is able to produce least errors in the day-1 forecasts of the tracks, while the ETA model produces least errors in the day-3 forecasts.  相似文献
