Decolorization of C.I. Basic Blue 3 (BB3) by oxalate catalyzed photoelectro‐Fenton process based on carbon nanotube‐polytetrafluoroethylene (CNT‐PTFE) electrode as cathode under visible light was studied. A comparison of electro‐Fenton, photoelectro‐Fenton, and photoelectro‐Fenton/oxalate processes for decolorization of the solution containing BB3 has been performed. The results showed that color removal follows the decreasing order: photoelectro‐Fenton/oxalate > photoelectro‐Fenton > electro‐Fenton. Response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to assess individual and interactive effects of the four main independent parameters on the decolorization efficiency. A central composite design (CCD) was employed for optimization of photoelectro‐Fenton/oxalate treatment of BB3. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed a high coefficient of determination value (R2 = 0.958) and satisfactory prediction second‐order regression. This study clearly showed that RSM was one of the suitable methods to optimize the operating conditions.  相似文献

Taphonomy and diagenesis of the ammonoid Libycoceras ismaeli (Zittel) have been approached in order to interpret the post-mortem depositional history during the Late Cretaceous of Jordan based on the comparative analysis of composition and taphonomy. The Campanian–Maastrichtian Al-Hisa Phosphorite Formation is exposed in northwestern and central Jordan is rich in cephalopods. It consists of alternating thin-bedded limestone, more or less silicified or calcified phosphorite layers, thick- and cross-bedded oyster lumachells, and lenses and layers of minable phosphate. The sphenodiscid ammonite L. ismaeli (Zittel) predominantly occurs in the middle part of this formation. L. ismaeli is associated with different nautiloid and baculitid species. The mode of occurrence of the studied ammonoids suggesting that they are best interpreted to been nektobenthic, not nektoplanktic. Taphonomic and diagenetic studies of transversely sliced specimens were carried out by means of polarizing and scanning electron microscope.  相似文献

Riverbank filtration (RBF) is an efficient and low-cost natural alternative technology for water supply application in which surface water contaminants are removed or degraded as the infiltrating water moves from the river to the pumping wells. In this study, a full-scale RBF site consisting of three vertical wells installed 50 m from Nile bank was investigated. The RBF systems are particularly well suited for providing better water quality than withdrawal directly from the Nile River to produce drinking water for New Aswan city. The study is carried out by taking samples over 1 year from riverbank filtrates wells, Nile River (as induced surface water), and some production wells were collected and analyzed. Physicochemical and microbiological measurements such as turbidity, dissolved oxygen, total suspended solids, total organic carbon, total dissolved solids, electrical conductivity, pH, Fe, Mn, NH3, NO2, NO3, PO4, Ca, Mg, Na, K, HCO3, SO4, Cl, total bacteria, and total coliform were carried out. The results of bank filtrate were compared with those of the natural groundwater and previous reported Nile water. Chemical and bacterial quality parameters of RBF are under the allowable limits for drinking water. Moreover, bank filtration is simultaneously improved the ambient groundwater and cleaned Nile water in the studied area. Result of this full-scale RBF plant showed the effectiveness of riverbank filtration as a proven treatment technique in Nile Valley with a fraction of cost comparing to conventional surface treatment plants.  相似文献

Accumulation of microbial mats and stromatolites dominate in the crystallization ponds of solar salt works west of Alexandria, Egypt. These microbial mats are laminar in the permanent submerged part of the ponds. The microbial mats commonly form sites for growth of gypsum crystals during periods having higher salinity. In the dominant submerged part of the pond, domal stromatolites are common around groundwater seepage holes. In the shallow, intermittent margin of the ponds, the laminated microbial structure forms laterally close-linked hemispheroidal stromatolite type, with unidirectional and multidirectional ripple mark-like morphology on their surface. The microbial laminite and stromatolite types in the modern solar salt works are similar to the organic-rich Miocene gypsum beds of El-Barqan (west Alexandria, Egypt) and Rabigh (north Jeddah, Saudi Arabia). The Miocene organic-rich beds consist of interlayered dark-colored microbial laminae and light-colored gypsum laminae. These beds may have three different variations: regular even lamination, laterally closed-linked hemispheroidal stromatolites, and/or discrete hemispheroidal stromatolites. Petrographic examination of the microbial laminites and stromatolites in the solar salt works and the Miocene gypsum beds indicate that the dark-colored, organic-rich laminae are composed of micritized microbial laminae and/or brown organic filaments. In El-Barqan area, the light-colored gypsum-rich laminae are composed of either gypsum crystal fragments, or lenticular and prismatic gypsum. These gypsum crystals are either entrapped within the microbial filaments or are nucleated at the surface of the microbial laminae to form a radial pattern, whereas in Rabigh area, the light-colored gypsum-rich laminae are composed of secondary porphyrotopic, poikilotopic, or granular gypsum crystals. By comparison of the microbial structure in the Miocene gypsum beds with the recent occurrence of the microbial laminites and stromatolites in the solar salt works, it is demonstrated that the organic-rich Miocene gypsum beds were formed in a very shallow salina with slightly fluctuating brine levels.  相似文献

Gulf of Suez consists mainly of three tectonic provinces that are separated by two accommodation zones. The southern edge of the gulf is bordered by N–S faults which mark the transition between the shallow water, Suez Basin and the deep northern Red Sea Basin. The sensitivity of coda Q measurements with respect to geological differences in the crust is demonstrated in three regions with a large variety of tectonic and geologic properties. The estimation of coda Q (Qc) is performed for 370 local earthquakes recorded at 12 digital seismic stations during the period from 2000 to 2007. The magnitudes of the earthquakes between 1.5 and ~4.5 have been used at central frequencies 1.5, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 24 Hz through three lapse time windows 10, 20, 30 s starting at once and twice the time of the primary S wave from the origin time. The time domain coda decay method of the single isotropic scattering model is employed to calculate frequency-dependent values of coda Q. The Qc values are frequency dependent in the range 1–25 Hz, and are approximated by a least squares fit to the power law [Qc(f) = Qo(f/fo]. The observed coda Q indicates that the area is seismically and tectonically active with high heterogeneities. The variation of the quality factor Qc has been estimated at different regions to observe the effect of different tectonic province. The average frequency-dependent estimated relations of Qc vary from 65f1.1 to 96f0.9 at 10 to 30 s window length, respectively. The decreasing value of the frequency parameter with increasing lapse time shows that the crust acquires homogeneity with depth. The variation of Qc with the variations in the geologic and tectonic properties of the crust was investigated. The frequency exponent η might be larger in active tectonic areas and smaller in more stable regions. In the northern region of the Gulf of Suez, the obtained value of η?=?0.8?±?0.011, which might indicate a low level of tectonic activity compared with η?=?1.1?±?0.005 and 1.3?±?0.009 for the central and southern regions of the gulf.  相似文献

The separation of residual gravity anomaly from regional gravity has considerably been studied for many years in gravity explorations. In addition, it is considered as a critical step in gravity data inversion. Some techniques have been developed for regional–residual anomaly separation both in space and frequency domains. One of these techniques for computing the regional anomaly is nonlinear filtering. In this paper, some techniques such as low-pass filtering, Butterworth, upward continuation, and nonlinear filtering are used to on synthetic gravity data in present of random noise and noise free for the purpose of residual–regional anomaly separation. The obtained results of techniques are compared with each other. The results have shown that separation methods are so efficient where synthetic models are located in shallow depth. Moreover, it is found that in comparison with other separation techniques, nonlinear filtering is more efficient in residual–regional anomaly separation and upward continuation technique is more efficient than Butterworth filter and low-pass filter. In addition, all of the obtained results have shown that Butterworth and low-pass filters are the same.  相似文献

The role of grains in evolution of accretion disc is an important issue in astrophysics. In this paper, we study the effect of vapor pressure of grains in the dead zones of protoplanetary discs. Our study is limited to some particular observed cases in which evaporation of grains would be important and their vapor gas are constrained to an approximately isolated case. Here, we use the Einstein model to investigate the thermodynamics of vapor pressure. The results show that there is a critical temperature as a function of oscillation frequency and binding energy of particles. For temperatures greater than this critical value, the system goes into unstable mode. We show that the dead zone of the disc may reach to enough conditions to condense via instability caused by vapor pressure of grains. This mechanism may play an important role in the formation of planetesimals through protoplanetary disc.  相似文献

A method is described for the detection and identification of dissolved organic compounds (DOCs) in various water samples. Acid treated active silica gel sorbent (pH 3) was packed into a micro‐column and used as a solid‐phase extraction medium for adsorption of DOCs. Silica particles‐adsorbed‐organic species were then divided into equal portions followed by suspension into various organic solvents of different polarities such as methanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, and toluene. Suspended silica‐adsorbed‐organic species were shaken for 1 h at room temperature and the organic extracts were subjected to GC–MS analysis under temperature programming conditions for qualitative detection and identification of these species. Blank solvents and silica samples were also subjected to the same extraction procedures and GC–MS analysis for comparison. The mass spectrum of each eluted chromatographic peak was library searched or manually interpreted to identify the compound.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The problem of estimation of suspended load carried by a river is an important topic for many water resources projects. Conventional estimation methods are based on the assumption of exact observations. In practice, however, a major source of natural uncertainty is due to imprecise measurements and/or imprecise relationships between variables. In this paper, using the Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS) technique, a novel fuzzy regression model for imprecise response and crisp explanatory variables is presented. The investigated fuzzy regression model is applied to forecast suspended load by discharge based on two real-world datasets. The accuracy of the proposed method is compared with two well-known parametric fuzzy regression models, namely, the fuzzy least-absolutes model and the fuzzy least-squares model. The comparison results reveal that the MARS-fuzzy regression model performs better than the other models in suspended load estimation for the particular datasets. This comparison is done based on four goodness-of-fit criteria: the criterion based on similarity measure, the criterion based on absolute errors and the two objective functions of the fuzzy least-absolutes model and the fuzzy least-squares model. The proposed model is general and can be used for modelling natural phenomena whose available observations are reported as imprecise rather than crisp.

ABSTRACT

The application of artificial neural networks (ANNs) has been widely used recently in streamflow forecasting because of their ?exible mathematical structure. However, several researchers have indicated that using ANNs in streamflow forecasting often produces a timing lag between observed and simulated time series. In addition, ANNs under- or overestimate a number of peak flows. In this paper, we proposed three data-processing techniques to improve ANN prediction and deal with its weaknesses. The Wilson-Hilferty transformation (WH) and two methods of baseflow separation (one parameter digital filter, OPDF, and recursive digital filter, RDF) were coupled with ANNs to build three hybrid models: ANN-WH, ANN-OPDF and ANN-RDF. The network behaviour was quantitatively evaluated by examining the differences between model output and observed variables. The results show that even following the guidelines of the Wilson-Hilferty transformation, which significantly reduces the effect of local variations, it was found that the ANN-WH model has shown no significant improvement of peak flow estimation or of timing error. However, combining baseflow with streamflow and rainfall provides important information to ANN models concerning the flow process operating in the aquifer and the watershed systems. The model produced excellent performance in terms of various statistical indices where timing error was totally eradicated and peak flow estimation significantly improved.
