The Cenomanian–Turonian transition marks one of the most important extinction episodes of the Mesozoic era. This extinction event was associated with the development of widespread oceanic anoxia and pronounced stable carbon isotopic excursion. Despite its importance, the effects of the perturbation on higher latitude biotas, and from the Baltic region in particular, are currently underexplored. Therefore, in this contribution we present the fossil record of a foraminifera succession integrated with δ13C trends from two deep cores: Bliūdsukiai-19 from western Lithuania and Balta?i?k?-267 from southern Lithuania. Two foraminiferal zones were distinguished: Rotalipora cushmani from the upper Cenomanian and Whiteinella archaeocretacea from the boundary strata between the Cenomanian and Turonian in the Balta?i?k?-267 core section, and a W. archaeocretacea Zone in the Bliūdsukiai-19 core section. A chemostratigraphical analysis of the stable carbon isotopes revealed a positive Cenomanian–Turonian δ13C anomaly, with maximum values reaching 3.57‰ in the upper part of the Bliūdsukiai-19 core section. A non-metric multidimensional scaling analysis of the foraminifera communities revealed that the major changes in their assemblages were strongly temporally organized and associated with the changes in the stable carbon isotopic ratios. This work presents data for the radiogenic Pb isotopic ratios (206Pb/207Pb and 208Pb/206Pb) in nine biogenic certified reference materials (NIST SRM 1515, 1566b, 1570a, 1573a, 1575a; BCR 100, BCR 101, BCR 670 and IAEA 359), which are suitable for analytical quality control in environmental research. The results were obtained using three different types of ICP‐based mass spectrometer (quadrupole‐based/magnetic sector field single‐collector ICP‐MS instruments and a multi‐collector ICP‐MS) and applying different mass bias correction procedures (calibrator‐sample bracketing and external Tl normalisation) with and without Pb separation from the matrix using ion exchange chromatography. In the majority of the samples, the measurements from all three of the ICP‐MS instruments were in agreement within ± 0.1%, despite the lower analytical precision of the single‐collector ICP‐MS instruments. We demonstrate that the presence of the sample matrix did not significantly influence the Pb isotopic ratios measured by magnetic sector field ICP‐MS, whereas the use of the two different mass bias corrections resulted in a systematic difference of 0.09% for the 208Pb/206Pb ratio. 相似文献

Several statistical postprocessing methods are applied to results from a numerical weather prediction (NWP) model to test the potential for increasing the accuracy of its local precipitation forecasts. Categorical (Yes/No) forecasts for 12hr precipitation sums equalling or exceeding 0.1, 2.0 and 5.0 mm are selected for improvement. The two 12hr periods 0600-1800 UTC and 1800-0600 UTC are treated separately based on NWP model initial times 0000 UTC and 1200 UTC, respectively. Input data are taken from three successive summer seasons, April-September, 1994-96. The forecasts are prepared and verified for five synoptic stations, four located in the western Czech Republic, and one in Germany near the Czech-German border.
Two approaches to statistical postprocessing are tested. The first uses Model Output Statistics (MOS) and the second modifies the MOS approach by applying a successive learning technique (SLT). For each approach several statistical models for the relationship between NWP model predictors and predictand were studied. An independent data set is used for forecast verification with the skill measured by a True Skill Score.
The results of the statistical postprocessing are compared with the direct model precipitation forecasts from gridpoints nearest the stations, and they show that both postprocessing approaches provide substantially better forecasts than the direct NWP model output. The relative improvement increases with increasing precipitation amount and there is no significant difference in performance between the two 12hr periods. The skill of the SLT does not depend significantly on the size of the initial learning sample, but its results are nevertheless comparable with the results obtained from the MOS approach, which requires larger developmental samples. 相似文献
