37Ar and 39Ar were measured in a bulk sample and in metal-rich and metal-poor fractions of the Dhajala meteorite and in metal-rich and metal-poor fractions of the Canon City meteorite. Two determinations of the activities in Dhajala metal phase are the following: 37Ar = 18.9 ± 1.1 and 17.2 ± 1.2, and 39Ar = 23.3 ± 0.9 and 24.2 ± 1.4 dpm/kg metal. In Canon City, the determinations are 37Ar = 18.2 ± 1.4 and 16.9 ± 7.5, and 39Ar = 18.2 ± 0.7 and 24.1 ± 1.4 dpm/kg metal. Dhajala and Canon City are of interest because they both fell during solar minimum.  相似文献

Models of giant gaseous protoplanets calculated by DeCampli and Cameron (1979) indicate that iron and probably other minerals in the interior of a planet would be in the liquid state during part of the protoplanet evolution. Liquid drops in a protoplanet would grow by coalescence much as cloud drops in the Earth's atmosphere grow to rain drops. We have modeled this process by using the stochastic collection equation (Slattery, 1978) for various initial conditions. In all of the cases considered, the growth time (to centimeter-sized droplets) is much shorter than the time, as estimated by detailed evolutionary calculations, that the drops are in the liquid state. Brownian collection is effective in quickly coalescing tiny liquid droplets to an average radius of about 0.005 cm with very few drops remaining with radii less than 0.001 cm. For radii larger than 0.005 cm gravitational collection is dominant. Since the particles are rapidly swept from interstellar grain sizes to much larger sizes, the opacity in the cloud layer is expected to drop sharply following melting of the grains.  相似文献

The stability of a contact discontinuity in a collisionless plasma is examined. It is shown that the discontinuity can become unstable when the pressure component normal to the magnetic field is not continuous across the discontinuity. Even when the system is unstable, the growth rates are very small and unimportant in the context of wave propagation, except when the propagation is almost normal to the field. The instability could, however, lead to the slow dissipation of contact discontinuities in the solar wind and in the day side of the cusp region of the solar wind-magnetosphere boundary.  相似文献

Synoptic charts for Carrington rotations 1601–1605 (May–August, 1973) were prepared using the central meridian column of the daily 9.1 cm Stanford solar radio maps. These charts were especially contoured to emphasize temperatures near the quiet solar disk level. Synoptic charts of coronal holes from the ATM-Skylab were superimposed on the radio data to investigate the ability of the radio charts to show coronal holes. This brief period is unfortunately the only interval for which both sets of data are available. The conclusion reached is that in spite of certain problems due to active regions, side-lobe effects and a rather large beamwidth, the 9.1 cm synoptic charts can be of substantial value in identifying large coronal holes, especially during periods of low solar activity. Such synoptic charts, therefore, for the years 1962–1973 that Stanford data are available, could enhance significantly the meagre data pool for coronal holes prior to the Skylab mission.  相似文献

A lagrangian formulation for the three-dimensional motion of a satellite in the vicinity of the collinear points of the circular-restricted problem is reconsidered. It is shown that the influence of the primaries can be expressed in the form of two third-body disturbing functions. By use of this approach, the equations for the Lagrangian and for the motion itself are readily developed into highly compact expressions. All orders of the non-linear developments are shown to be easily obtainable using well-known recursive relationships. The resulting forms for these equations are well suited for use in the initial phase of canonical or non-canonical investigations.  相似文献
