The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has established several methods to delineate wellhead protection areas (WHPAs) around community wells in order to protect them from surface contamination sources. Delineating a WHPA often requires defining the capture zone for a well. Generally, analytical models or arbitrary setback zones have been used to define the capture zone in areas where little is known about the distribution of hydraulic head, hydraulic conductivity, or recharge. Numerical modeling, however, even in areas of sparse data, offers distinct advantages over the more simplified analytical models or arbitrary setback zones. The systematic approach discussed here calibrates a numerical flow model to regional topography and then applies a matrix of plausible recharge to hydraulic conductivity ratios ( R / K ) to investigate the impact on the size and shape of the capture zone. This approach does not attempt to determine the uncertainty of the model but instead yields several possible capture zones, the composite of which is likely to contain the actual capture zone. A WHPA based on this composite capture zone will protect ground water resources better than one based on any individual capture zone. An application of the method to three communities illustrates development of the R / K matrix and demonstrates that the method is particularly well suited for determining capture zones in alluvial aquifers.  相似文献

用1961~1983年贵州和邻近各省的探空资料及高空风资料计算我省空中水汽资源的时空分布特征,提出了空中水汽降出率的概念,指出我省无论何时何地都有很丰富的空中水汽资源,而且空中水汽降出率平均仅为0.01%-0.03%在大暴雨过程中可达到0.32%,表明我省空中水汽资源有着巨大的开发利用潜力,论证了在我省干旱季节进行人工增雨作业的可行性。  相似文献

利用2008~2012年太原常规地面气象观测资料、高空探测资料和大气污染物观测资料,对主要天气形势、典型气象要素以及空气污染状况下灰霾天气特征及形成机制进行了综合分析。结果表明:1)太原地区灰霾出现频率存在明显的季节变化,冬半年灰霾出现天数占全年的65.7%;一天中08:00(北京时间,下同)至13:00发生灰霾的频率较高。2)霾日静风频率较高,主导风向为偏东南风;重度灰霾天气出现时相对湿度较高。3)霾日的大气稳定度主要表现为稳定类;霾日平均混合层高度比非霾日低约100 m;08:00逆温出现次数高于20:00,霾时平均逆温强度和厚度高于非霾时。4)高压类型天气形势对灰霾的产生有重要影响,低压天气形势下较少出现灰霾天气。5)可吸入颗粒物、SO2和NO2浓度在非霾日比霾日分别下降32.6%、48.6%、21.7%;随着灰霾等级的增加,SO2和可吸入颗粒物的浓度有显著的增加。6)灰霾天气下到达地面的太阳辐射强度明显减弱,日照时数明显减少。  相似文献

The bioaccessible concentration and speciation of arsenic (soluble in a gastrointestinal medium and available for absorption into the bloodstream) were determined in softshell clams (Mya arenaria), harvested by local residents until 2005, and in seaweed (Fucus sp.) from an arsenic-contaminated marine site in Seal Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada. Bioaccessibility extractions to simulate the human gastrointestinal environment (pH 1.5 and glycine for 1h followed by pancreatin, bile extract and pH adjustment to 7 for an additional 4h) and speciation of arsenic in extracts (HPLC-HG-AAS to target inorganic arsenic species) and whole samples (XANES) were carried out. Total arsenic for the clams from the contaminated area ranged from 218 to 228 ppm wet weight, with a bioaccessible fraction of 34-46%, and the major bioaccessible species of arsenic were inorganic. The seaweed from the contaminated area contained 27-43 ppm wet weight total arsenic, with the bioaccessible fraction ranging from 63% to 81%, and inorganic arsenic was also predominant. The predominantly inorganic nature of arsenic in the whole samples was confirmed by XANES. In concurrence with the closure of the area for clam harvesting, the clams and seaweed from Seal Harbour should probably not be used for human consumption.  相似文献

A new method was developed for characterizing geohydrologic columns that extended >600 m deep at sites with as many as six discrete aquifers. This method was applied at 12 sites within the Southwest Florida Water Management District. Sites typically were equipped with multiple production wells, one for each aquifer and one or more observation wells per aquifer. The average hydraulic properties of the aquifers and confining units within radii of 30 to >300 m were characterized at each site. Aquifers were pumped individually and water levels were monitored in stressed and adjacent aquifers during each pumping event. Drawdowns at a site were interpreted using a radial numerical model that extended from land surface to the base of the geohydrologic column and simulated all pumping events. Conceptually, the radial model moves between stress periods and recenters on the production well during each test. Hydraulic conductivity was assumed homogeneous and isotropic within each aquifer and confining unit. Hydraulic property estimates for all of the aquifers and confining units were consistent and reasonable because results from multiple aquifers and pumping events were analyzed simultaneously.  相似文献

A new computer program, FLASH (Flow-Log Analysis of Single Holes), is presented for the analysis of borehole vertical flow logs. The code is based on an analytical solution for steady-state multilayer radial flow to a borehole. The code includes options for (1) discrete fractures and (2) multilayer aquifers. Given vertical flow profiles collected under both ambient and stressed (pumping or injection) conditions, the user can estimate fracture (or layer) transmissivities and far-field hydraulic heads. FLASH is coded in Microsoft Excel(5) with Visual Basic for Applications routines. The code supports manual and automated model calibration.  相似文献

Phytoplankton assemblages from tropical (Goa) and temperate (UK) locations were exposed to a 28 day dark period, followed by a period of re-exposure to light. During this time phytoplankton survival and changes in nutrient concentrations were mapped. The tropical plankton water samples showed high nutrient levels after the dark period which were utilised by cells during the re-exposure period. UK experiments looked at the effect of three different water types on population recovery after the 28 day dark period, and differences due to seasonal effects.The population growth observed during the re-exposure period in the tropical population was comparable to that of the temperate population. Water type affected recovery and of the three tested media fresh seawater promoted the highest levels of growth. Seasonality had a significant influence on species survival. Understanding the effects of all these factors can aid the development of effective risk assessments in ballast water management.  相似文献
