The positions and motions of solar bursts in the range 20 to 60 MHz have been measured by the means of a sweep-frequency grating interferometer with angular resolution of 5 arc at 60 MHz decreasing to 15 arc at 20 MHz. The positional characteristics of the decameter wavelength bursts are discussed in terms of the commonly accepted theories of the origin of radio bursts from plasma and synchrotron radiations.  相似文献

Liquid Fe metal-liquid silicate partition coefficients for the lithophile and weakly-siderophile elements Ta, Nb, V, Cr, Si, Mn, Ga, In and Zn have been measured in multianvil experiments performed from 2 to 24 GPa, 2023-2873 K and at oxygen fugacities of −1.3 to −4.2 log units relative to the iron-wüstite buffer. Compositional effects of light elements dissolved in the metal liquid (S, C) have been examined and experiments were performed in both graphite and MgO capsules, specifically to address the effect of C solubility in Fe-metal on siderophile element partitioning. The results were used to examine whether there is categorical evidence that a significant portion of metal-silicate equilibration occurred under very high pressures during core-mantle fractionation on Earth. Although the depletion of V from the mantle due to core formation is significantly greater than that of Nb, our results indicate that both elements have similar siderophile tendencies under reducing conditions at low pressures. With increasing pressure, however, Nb becomes less siderophile than V, implying that average metal-silicate equilibration pressures of at least 10-40 GPa are required to explain the Nb/V ratio of the mantle. Similarly the moderately-siderophile, volatile element ratios Ga/Mn and In/Zn are chondritic in the mantle but both volatility and core-mantle equilibration at low pressure would render these ratios strongly sub-chondritic. Our results indicate that pressures of metal-silicate partitioning exceeding 30-60 GPa would be required to render these element ratios chondritic in the mantle. These observations strongly indicate that metal-silicate equilibration must have occurred at high pressures, and therefore support core-formation models that involve deep magma oceans. Moreover, our results allow us to exclude models that envisage primarily low-pressure (<1 GPa) equilibration in relatively small planetary bodies. We also argue that the core cannot contain significant U as this would require metal-silicate equilibration at oxygen fugacities low enough for significant amounts of Ta to have also been extracted from the mantle. Likewise, as In is more siderophile than Pb but similarly volatile and also quite chalcophile it would have been difficult for Pb to enter the core without reversing the relative depletions of these elements in the mantle unless metal-silicate equilibration occurred at high pressures >20 GPa.  相似文献

It is shown that the dynamics of the plasmapause, the plasmasphere plasma tails, the plasma sheet and the magnetosheath boundaries of the geomagnetosphere may be investigated by means of the geostationary version of the differential phase method, by which a signal transmitted from a sounding station (a geostationary satellite) and received by a response station on the Earth may be transformed, allowing the sign of the frequency shift and of the phase lag to be changed. Information on the location, the motion of the magnetospheric plasma discontinuities and the concentration drop at their boundaries may be obtained from measurements carried out on board the geostationary satellite of the phase difference of the sounding and response signals ΔΦ, the time of its increase Δt and the phase difference change rate (fast beating frequency Δƒ = ΔΦ/2π Δt). The establishment of communication between appropriately spaced ground stations and a satellite with a quasi-polar orbit allows the midlatitude plasmapause dynamics, and those of the ionosphere trough, polar cusp boundaries and of polar cap inhomogeneities to be studied. Equipment with a stability of 10−11–10−12 is needed for the most dynamical events (for ΔΦ= 10−4 tens of rad. and for Δƒ= 10−5 tens of Hz) occurring in the radio path during storms.  相似文献

The galactic nebula S206 contains a half shell of high excitation nebulosity which is centred on the associated exciting star. The suggestion has been made that this structure is caused by the interaction of stellar mass loss from the star with nebular gas. A steady state model of such an interaction is investigated quantitatively. The required mass loss rate from the star is about 10–7 M yr–1 which is compatible with the observationally derived mass-loss rates from early-type stars.  相似文献

Energy spectra of cosmic ray nuclei in the charge range 5Z26 have been derived from the response of an acrylic plastic erenkov detector. Data were obtained using a balloon-borne detector and cover the energy range 320E2200 MeV amu–1. Spectra are derived from a formal deconvolution using the method of Lezniak (1975). Relative spectra of different elements are compared by observing the charge ratios. Secondary-primary ratios are observed to decrease with increasing energy, consistent with the effect previously observed at higher energy. Primary-to-primary ratios are constant for 6Z10 and 14Z26 but vary for 10Z14. This data is found to be consistent with existing data, where comparable, and lends strong support to the idea of two separate source populations contributing to the cosmic ray composition.Work supported by University of Maryland Grant NGR 21-002-316.  相似文献

In this paper station-keeping is regarded as the specialization of relative motion referred to a moving, orbiting origin. For this study a well-known linear solution to this problem serves as a base formulation from which the investigation begins.Even though the overall problem could be separated into three parts—necessitating two distinct studies for coverage—this paper examines only the last phase of the operation. That is, it is the continuation, or retention, of a relative motion sub-orbit which is of interest in this analysis.The situation becomes one of determining what is needed to maintain the sub-orbit, and/or to adjust it. In addition, the consequences of these actions, and the results predicted from theory are established, examined, and commented upon. In the presentation of information gathered from this study, various graphs have been prepared; however, these are expressed in a dimensionless format so that the results apply equally to all reasonable reference orbits.For this analysis the separate and combined influences, due to both the initial relative motion state and to a thrusting condition, are examined. The D3 line profile in plages on the disk is measured using a birefringent filter. The best fit Gaussian has a 1/e width of 0.4 Å, with negligible instrumental contribution. The D3 opacity is produced in regions with thermal linewidth -0.1 Å; the much larger observed width indicates large non-thermal motions in the chromosphere.  相似文献

Solar wind and interplanetary magnetic field data were obtained by the PROGNOZ 1 and PROGNOZ 2 satellites during the period following the August 4, 1972 (0621 UT) solar flare. A thermalized plasma was recorded one hour after the shock followed two hours later by the plasma piston with a bulk velocity higher than 1700 km s-1. The comparison between the PROGNOZ and PIONEER 9 solar wind data shows an attenuation of the plasma properties with the deflection from the flare's meridian.  相似文献

Green's Theorem is developed for the spherically-symmetric steady-state cosmic-ray equation of transport in interplanetary space. Evaluation requires a knowledge of the Green's function which corresponds to the solution for monoenergetic particles released at heliocentric radiusr o , Examples of Green's functions are given for the caser a =0,r b = and derived for the cases of finiter a andr b . The diffusion coefficient is assumed of the form = o(p)r b .
