We revisit the 1.3-year (yr) signals observed on the Sun, in the interplanetary space, and in the Earth’s magnetosphere to study the coupling among signals from the three regions for about 40 years (1970?–?2007) covering the three solar cycles 21, 22, and 23. For this, we make dynamic spectra of datasets including three different regions. From this, we estimate the peak frequency around 1.3 yr for each region and the corresponding band power. We found that coherent power only appears during 1987?–?1995 and the coherent behavior is found only in the interplanetary space and Earth, not in the Sun. Although the solar surface magnetic field shows significant power around 1.3 yr, their peak frequencies are statistically different from those of the outer regions, which make us dismiss the existence of coherence among the three regions. But it is notable that the peaks in band power corresponding to the 1.3-yr period are clearly simultaneous in the interplanetary space and Earth. 相似文献

Abstract— The purpose of this study is to examine, using light optical and electron optical techniques, the microstructure and composition of metal particles in ordinary chondritic meteorites. This examination will lead to the understanding of the low temperature thermal history of metal particles in their host chondrites. Two type 6 falls were chosen for study: Kernouvé (H6) and Saint Severin (LL6). In both meteorites, the taenite particles consisted of a narrow rim of high Ni taenite and a central region of cloudy zone similar to the phases observed in iron meteorites. The cloudy zone microstructure was coarser in Saint Severin than in Kernouvé due to the higher bulk Ni content of the taenite and the slower cooling rate, 3 K Ma?1 vs. 17 K Ma?1. Three microstructural zones were observed within the high Ni taenite region in both meteorites. The origin of the multiple zones is unknown but is most likely due to the high Ni taenite cooling into the two phase γ″ (FeNi) + γ′ (FeNi3) region of the low temperature Fe-Ni phase diagram. Another explanation may be the presence of uniform size antiphase boundaries within the high Ni taenite. Finally, abnormally wide high Ni taenite regions are observed bordering troilite. The wide zones are probably caused by the diffusion of Ni from troilite into the high Ni taenite borders at low cooling temperatures. 相似文献

The Exoplanet Characterization Observatory (EChO) is a concept of a dedicated space telescope optimized for low-resolution transit and occultation spectroscopy to study the exoplanet diversity through the composition of their atmospheres. The scope of this paper is to answer the following question: Can we schedule a nominal EChO mission, with targets known today (in mid 2013), given the science requirements, realistic performances and operational constraints? We examine this issue from the point of view of duration of the mission and the scheduling restrictions with a sample of exoplanet systems known nowadays. We choose different scheduling algorithms taking into account the science and operational constraints and we verified that it is fairly straightforward to schedule a mission scenario over the lifetime of EChO compliant with the science requirements. We identified agility as a critical constraint that reduces significantly the efficiency of the survey. We conclude that even with known targets today the EChO science objectives can be reached in the 4.5 years duration of the mission. We also show that it is possible to use gaps between exoplanet observations, to fit the required calibration observations, data downlinks and station keeping operations or even to observe more exoplanet targets to be discovered in the coming years. 相似文献

The electrostatic interaction of charged dust grains is analysed by considering the interaction of two charged conducting spheres, rather than the hitherto considered model of a sphere and a point charge. Considerable mofification of the induced charge effects results when the nonzero radius of the second sphere is taken into account.In particular, it is shown that image charge or polarization effects can only be of significance as far as collision rates are concerned when modulus of the charge ratio of two colliding grains is very different from the ratio of their radii. Such a charge ratio deviates from the original Spitzer calculation, where grains have identical charge, irrespective of the grain material, for a given radius. This deviation may occur in cool gas clouds such as Hi regions and dense molecular clouds where the discreteness of electron charge is important, or in interstellar clouds where considerable photo-ionization of a mixture of grain materials of widely varying photoelectric efficiencies takes place.It is further argued that, with regard to the induced charge effects, the accretion rate will not be significantly different for dielectric as compared to conducting grains, regardless of the type of gas cloud under consideration. 相似文献

We examine the H I kinematics of the “Bluedisk” ensemble of 48 galaxies selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and observed in H I with the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope. The sample consists of 25 galaxies with a high H I mass fraction and a comparatively large control sample comprising 23 galaxies of comparable stellar mass, stellar mass surface density, redshift, and inclination. By studying the H I velocity fields of these galaxies, we investigate whether there are signatures of ongoing gas accretion: i.e. global asymmetries and indications for warping and kinematical lopsidedness. We find no enhanced kinematical asymmetries between the H I‐rich sample and the control sample galaxies, indicating no significant difference in kinematical signatures such as warping and lopsidedness. Furthermore, we find no difference in position angle and systemic velocity offset with respect to the optical between both sub‐samples. We therefore do not find compelling evidence for enhanced global asymmetry of the H I‐excess galaxies ensemble properties in comparison to the control sample galaxies. Radar observations of the Galilean satellites, made in late 1976 using the 12.6-cm radar system of the Arecibo Observatory, have yielded mean geometric albedos of 0.04 ± , 0.69 ± 0.17, 0.37 ± 0.09, and 0.15 ± 0.04, for Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto, respectively. The albedo for Io is about 40% smaller than that obtained approximately a year earlier, while the albedos for the outer three satellites average about 70% larger than the values previously reported for late 1975, raising the possibility of temporal variation. Very little dependence on orbital phase is noted; however, some regional scattering inhomogeneities are seen on the outer three satellites. For Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto, the ratios of the echo received in one mode of circular polarization to that received in the other were: 1.61 ± 0.20 1.48 ± 0.27, and 1.24 ± 0.19, respectively, with the dominant component having the same sence of circularity as that transmitted. This behavior has not previously been encountered in radar studies of solar system objects, whereas the corresponding observations with linear polarization are “normal.” Radii determined from the 1976 radar data for Europa and Ganymede are: 1530 ± 30 and 2670 ± 50 km, in fair agreement with the results from the 1975 radar observations and the best recent optical determinations. Doppler shifts of the radar echoes, useful for the improvement of the orbits of Jupiter and some of the Galilean satellites, are given for 12 nights in 1976 and 10 nights in 1975. 相似文献
