Throughout the last twenty years, 3D seismic ray modelling has developed from a research tool to a more operational tool that has gained growing interest in the petroleum industry. Various areas of application have been established and new ones are under development. Many of these applications require a modelling system with flexible, robust and efficient modelling algorithms in the core. The present paper reviews the basic elements of such a system, based on the open model concept and the wavefront construction technique. In the latter, ervený's dynamic ray tracing is an intrinsic part. The modelling system can be used for generating ray attributes and synthetic seismograms for realistic 3D surveys with tens of thousands of shots and receivers. Moreover, some other types of application areas are illustrated: Production of Green's functions for prestack depth migration and hybrid modelling (combined ray and finite-difference modelling), attribute mapping and illumination analysis, both for survey planning and interpretation. Finally, the concepts of isochron rays and velocity rays related to seismic isochrons have been introduced recently, with very interesting future applications.  相似文献

Counter-slopes in avalanche paths influence avalanche flow in similarways as defence structures. Measurements and calculations of run-outon such slopes will improve our understanding of retaining damdesign. We have studied three different, well described avalancheevents; for each case we have calculated the run-out distance usingthe Noren, Irgens and Schieldrops continuum model (NIS), adjustingthe parameters to fit the simulated avalancheto the observed one. Using the same parameters, the run-out onidentical terrain, but without counter-slope, is computed. Comparisonbetween the energy dissipation in these different cases tells us whichtopography most efficiently retards an avalanche. With a smoothly curved valley bottom, the energy dissipation at agiven point on the opposite slope is less than on a flatrun-out. The explanation to this is that, when gravity retards anavalanche, a smaller portion of the energy loss is due to dissipationfrom viscous (velocity dependent) friction. When the avalanche travelsover a retaining dam, with much smaller curvature radii, a significantportion of the energy is dissipated. The consequence of this is that defence structures are not sodependent on the counter-slope inclination as on the curvature radiusin the transition to up-gradient. Further, introduction of acounter-slope in an avalanche path may conserve energy rather thancausing dissipation – if the inclination is not altered abruptlyenough. If the counter-slope is smooth, and not large enough tocompletely stop the avalanche, it will not reduce destructive energyon the downstream side. In fact, the destructive energy may bepartially conserved until the run-out.  相似文献

In response to Article 2.2 of the Kyoto Protocol, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) have begun to consider greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from international aviation and shipping. However, neither ICAO nor IMO have taken any effective action on the issue yet and progress can be characterised as slow. The lack of action has so far not been made up for by measures within the climate change regime or by individual countries. An important motivation for the efforts of ICAO and IMO so far has been the potential regulatory competition with the climate change regime. However, given the lack of political will to act on the issue within the latter, this motivation has not been very forceful. Against this backdrop, I argue that there are in particular three options for furthering progress within ICAO and IMO, namely (1) enhancing the threat of regulation of GHG emissions from international transport under the climate change regime; (2) undertaking unilateral domestic action by various countries (in particular the EU); and (3) furthering a learning process within ICAO and IMO. Furthermore, a closer coordination of efforts under ICAO, IMO and the climate change regime could facilitate and accelerate progress.  相似文献

Te Whaiau Formation is a massive volcaniclastic deposit interbedded within gravelly and sandy volcanogenic sediments of the northwestern Tongariro ring plain. The ca. 0.5-km3 deposit comprises a clay-rich, matrix-supported diamicton with lithological and physical properties that are typical of a cohesive debris-flow deposit. Clays identified in the matrix are derived from hydrothermally altered andesite lava and pyroclastic rocks. The distribution pattern of the deposit, and the nature of the clay matrix, point to a source area that was located in the vicinity of Mt. Tongariro's current summit (1967 m). Most of the proximal zone is buried under late Pleistocene lavas forming the northwestern flank of the massif. In contrast, the medial and distal zones are well exposed to the northwest in the Whanganui River catchment. Lithofacies exposed in these latter zones contain isolated volcaniclastic megaclasts and well-preserved, jointed blocks of andesite. Small hummocks, up to 5 m high, are present only in the distal margins of the deposit. Based on these observations, possible source areas and analogy with similar deposits elsewhere, we infer that Te Whaiau Formation was initiated as a fluid-saturated debris avalanche that transformed downstream into a single, cohesive debris flow. It is interpreted that the mass flow was initially confined to the northwestern flank of Tongariro before spreading laterally onto the lowlands to the northwest. The resulting heterolithological diamicton filled stream channels in the western sector of the Tongariro ring plain. At 15 km from source, the debris flow encountered an elevated terrain, which acted as a barrier to further spreading to the north. The stratigraphy of the cover beds and K/Ar data on an underlying lava indicate that Te Whaiau Formation was emplaced between 55 and 60 ka, a cool period characterized by intense volcaniclastic sedimentation around the Tongariro massif. Jigsaw-fit fractured volcanic bombs suggest that an explosive eruption through hydrothermally altered rock and pyroclastic deposits probably triggered the mass flow. The characteristics of the deposit indicate that a large portion of the proto-Tongariro edifice collapsed en masse to form the initial avalanche. Hence, we infer that the current morphology of Tongariro volcano is derived not only from glacial erosion, but also from gravitational failure. Prehistoric eruptions and current geothermal activity on the upper northern and western slopes of the Tongariro massif suggest that avalanche-induced debris flows must be considered a potential future volcanic hazard for the region.  相似文献

The frequently observed eutrophication problems in Danish marine waters are associated with high nutrient loads. This paper outlines how the atmospheric part of the load is determined within the framework of the Danish Background Monitoring Programme. The analyses within the programme are carried out by use of both measurements and model calculations, where the modelling part receives the main focus in this paper. The performed calculations indicate that the atmospheric nitrogen deposition to the Danish marine waters is of comparable size to the river run-off, and in some periods even the dominating contribution to the overall nitrogen input. The model results are shown to be sensitive to the resolution of the meteorological input data for the calculations. Strong improvement of the model performance is the result when meteorological data with much higher temporal and spatial resolution are applied.  相似文献

The Mesozoic platform sequence of the Menderes Massif consists of thick succession of detrital and carbonate rocks. In this sequence there are mafic metavolcanic rocks at two different levels. The first level of mafic metavolcanic intercalations is in the Late Triassic detrital-rich series located in the ÇaltayL Formation, which is the lowermost unit of the Mesozoic platform. The second level of the mafic metavolcanic rocks is located in the Late Cretaceous-(?)Paleocene Selçuk Formation laying on top of the platform sequence. The ÇaltayL Formation, which is composed of mica-schists, thinly-bedded cherts, calc-schist and mafic volcanic intercalations unconformably overlie the BayLndLr Formation, which consists of mica-schists, phyllites, and white quartzites of Palaeozoic or probably older age. The mafic volcanic rocks in the ÇaltayL Formation are alkaline basalts with within plate characteristics and are formed during an intraplate extension. The ÇaltayL Formation is conformably overlain by the KayaaltL Formation represented by calc-schists, dolomitic marbles, and rudist- and emery-bearing massive marbles in ascending order. The Selçuk Formation overlies the KayaaltL Formation and consists of a mica-schist matrix with allochthonous blocks of mafic volcanic rocks, metaperidotites, metagabbros and massive marbles. The mafic volcanic rocks in the Selçuk Formation are tholeiitic basalts and are petrologically similar to mid-oceanic basalts. The geological and geochemical characteristics of the mafic metavolcanic rocks in the ÇaltayL Formation indicate that during the Late Triassic, the Menderes platform was segmented, probably by the opening of a branch of the Neotethyan Ocean. Between the Late Triassic and the Late Cretaceous, the Menderes carbonate platform was built up. During the Latest Cretaceous-Early Paleocene, a slab of oceanic crust obducted on this platform and provided slices of mafic metavolcanic rocks into the Selçuk Formation.  相似文献

This study aims to express the relationships between Schmidt rebound number (N) with unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and Young's modulus (Et) of the gypsum by empirical equations. As known, the Schmidt hammer has been used worldwide as an index test for a quick rock strength and deformability characterisation due to its rapidity and easiness in execution, simplicity, portability, low cost and nondestructiveness. In this study, gypsum samples have been collected from various locations in the Miocene-aged gypsum of Sivas Basin and tested. The tests include the determination of Schmidt hammer rebound number (N), tangent Young's modulus (Et) and unconfined compressive strength. Finally, obtained parameters were correlated and regression equations were established among Schmidt hammer rebound hardness, tangent Young's modulus and unconfined compressive strength, presenting high coefficients of correlation. It appears that there is a possibility of estimating unconfined compressive strength and Young's modulus of gypsum, from their Schmidt hammer rebound number by using the proposed empirical relationships of UCS=exp(0.818+0.059N) and Et=exp(1.146+0.054N). However, the equations must be used only for the gypsum with an acceptable accuracy, especially at the preliminary stage of designing a structure. Finally, by using the obtained Schmidt hammer rebound number from this study, unconfined compressive strength was calculated and compared with the calculated value from different empirical equations proposed by different authors. It can be said that it is impossible to obtain only one relation for all types of the rocks.  相似文献

Contaminant transport in a fractured porous medium can be modeled, under appropriate conditions, with a double porosity model. Such a model consists of a parabolic equation with a coupling term describing contaminant exchange between the fractures, which have high permeability, and the matrix block, which has low permeability. A locally conservative method based on mixed finite elements is used to solve the parabolic problem, and the calculation of the coupling term, which involves the solution of diffusion equations in the matrix blocks, is based on an analytic expression. Numerical experiments show that this semi-analytic method for the coupling term is accurate and faster than several other methods but at a small expense of computer memory.  相似文献

The paper assesses the inequalities of the production of geographical knowledge mainly against the backdrop of the East-West relations, which still dominate Hungarian practice. However, it also offers examples of Anglo-American hegemony making itself felt more acutely; or of Hungarian geographers, at the receiving end of these dimensions of hegemony, producing hegemony in a different system of relations. Investigating the political economic power relations underlying this hegemony and the social agents involved in `hegemony-producing' helps establish potential strategies of putting an end to the inequalities of academic knowledge production.
