THE ROLES OF BOUNDARY-LAYER DYNAMICS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF MADDEN-JULIAN OSCILLATION

In this paper,a tropical atmospheric model of relevance to shorts-term climate variations(Wang and Li 1993)is util-ized for study of the development of Madden-Julian oscillation.The model contains an interactive process ofboundary-layer Ekman convergence and precipitation heating.The model is solved by expanding dependent variables interms of parabolic cylindrical functions in the meridional direction and truncating three meridional modes n=0,2,4 forequatorial symmetric solutions.The free wave solutions obtained under long-wave approximation are induced as aKelvin wave and two Rossby waves.After considering the effect of boundary-layer dynamic process,the modifiedKelvin wave becomes unstable in long-wave bands with a typical growth rate on an order of 10~(-6) s~(-1)and an eastwardphase speed of 10 m s~(-1);the most unstable mode is wavenumber one.These theoretical results are consistent with the ob-served Madden-Julian oscillation in equatorial area.For the two modified Rossby waves,one with a smaller meridionalscale(n=4)decays except for extra long-waves;the other with a larger meridional scale(n=2)grows in short-wavebands.This may be relevant to explaining the westward propagation of super cloud clusters in the Madden-Julianoscillation.The theory suggests that the boundary-layer dynamic process is an important mechanism in the develop-ment of the Madden-Julian oscillation.     

Non-stationary random seismic responses of non-uniform beams

In this paper, a direct Ritz method is presented for analysing the responses of non-uniform shear beams subjected to the action of an evolutionary random seismic excitation. Because of the use of a pseudo ground acceleration, time-dependent random responses can conveniently be calculated by solving a set of deterministic equations of motion. These responses include power spectral densities, variances and higher spectral moments of any required responses of the beam. A non-uniform beam example was solved and the time-dependent variances and second spectral moments of both the beam-top displacement and the beam-base shear force are given to show the simplicity and effectiveness of the method, which can also easily be applied to other continuous elastic structures.     

Dynamic interaction between adjacent foundations

The results of a parametric study on the dynamic interaction between adjacent foundations are presented. Addressed in this study are the effects of distance, direction of alignment, embedment and structural inertia. Several conclusions are drawn regarding the significance of each of these factors.

A study of234U/238U ratios in groundwaters of Taiyuan area,Shanxi Province

Uranium contents and²³⁴U/²³⁸U ratios have been determined on 29 water samples from the Taiyuan area, Shanxi Province. The results show that the same artesian aquifer has similar uranium contents and²³⁴U/²³⁸U activity ratios, and the deeper aquifers have higher A. R. values but lower uranium contents. The A. R. values increase slightly towards groundwater flow in the artesian aquifers dominated by oxidizing ground waters. The Lancun Spring and the famous Jinci Spring belong to two different karst groundwater systems, i.e., the east and west karst groundwater systems. The recharge area of the Lancun Spring should cover the wide limestone outcrops of middle Ordovician in the northeast. The Ordovician fissure-karst ground water to the Jinci Spring is extensively mixed with fissure water in Carboniferous-Jurassic formations and seepage water from the Fenhe River.     

Study of Dynamic Waveform Inversion with Computer

This paper has done the spectrum analysis of deformity waveform and it’s each frequency element is rectified with measuring system frequency response curve by positive and inverse Fourier transform theoretical. If all of rectified frequency elements of waveform are superposed then real waveform would be obtained. This paper has done theoretical analysis and a practical method is introduced.     

Three-dimensional hybrid modelling of soil-structure interaction

A three-dimensional hybrid model for the analysis of soil-structure interaction under dynamic conditions is developed which takes advantage of the desirable features of the finite element and substructure methods and which minimizes their undesirable features. The modelling is achieved by partitioning the total soil-structure system into a near-field and a far-field with a hemispherical interface. The near-field, which consists of the structure to be analysed and a finite region of soil around it, is modelled by finite elements. The semi-infinite far-field is modelled by distributed impedance functions at the interface which are determined by system identification methods. Numerical results indicate that the proposed model makes possible realistic and economical assessment of three-dimensional soil-structure interaction for both surface and embedded structures.     

Calculations of crystal-field spectra of Cu2+ ions in some low-symmetry minerals

The expressions of the crystal-field potential energies and perturbation matrix elements corresponding to the point symmetriesC _4v ,D _2h andC _i are given in this paper. The crystal-field transition frequencies of Cu²⁺ ions in metatorbernite, conichalcite and turquoise calculated by using these expressions are also reported. The calculated results are essentially consistent with experimental data.     

1914——1965年发生在我国境内Ms≥4(3/4)地震参数的修定

本文对1914—1965年发生在我国境内Ms≥(4 3/4)的地震,用电子计算机进行了参数的修定,並简要介绍了修定的方法及修定的结果。结果表明,经过重新计算后,各参数(O.λ.φ.h)的精确度均有明显的提高。
