Fifteen seismic reflection lines from AGIP surveys, in and around the Campanian Plain and Mt. Somma–Vesuvius (south Italy) have been interpreted. The attention has been focused to the horizon pertinent to the top of the Mesozoic carbonate sequence and the Quaternary faults dissecting it. As a matter of fact, both are very important elements for understanding the origin of the volcanic activity in the area, that often in the past, has been the topic of debates not supported by reliable data. In the study area, referring to the depth of the carbonate basement, comparison between the result achieved by the seismic prospecting and previous gravity studies has been made. It shows coherence in some areas but large discrepancy within others. Near the town of S. Anastasia, the gravity and seismic depth estimates differ as much as 1000 m or more. Furthermore, the seismic data show that the source of the greatest volcanic eruption in the area (the so-called ‘Campanian Ignimbrite') is probably not located in the Acerra depression, as suggested by other authors. A main NE–SW fault directed toward Vesuvius, considered as playing a primary role on volcanogenetic processes and previously recognised only offshore by marine seismic survey, has been now identified also inland using this new seismic information. The results presented here strengthen the hypothesis that Mt. Vesuvius is located at the crossing point of two regional Quaternary sets of fault heading NW–SE and NE–SW. 相似文献

Qualitative and quantitative aspects of the evolution of the planktonic populations in Lake Lugano 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
This study is a summary of all available information on the long-term and on the more recent development of the planktonic populations in Lago di Lugano with regard to its trophic evolution. The first effects of the lake eutrophication became manifest beginning in the 1950's and brought to important changes in the planktonic community as the appearance and the rapid increase of the filamentous algaeOscillatoria rubescens andStephanodiscus hantzschii, and the disappearance of the zooplanktonic Diaptomidae. Since 1980 the phosphorus concentration began to decrease in lake's epilimnion and the planktonic community showed a new composition, evidencing the presence of others predominant species:Oscillatoria redekei, Lyngbya limnetica, Stephanodiscus sp. (little form). Since 1989 algal standing crop reduced its value below 2 g m–2 (dry weight); furthermore a strong decrease of the Cyanophceae and the appearance of new predominant species (Tabellaria fenestrata, div. Ulotrichales) occurred. At the same time an increase of the herbivorous zooplankton (Daphnia hyalina) and the come-back of the Diaptomidae was observed. Only in the northern basin a decrease tendency of the primary production was observed, changing from 480 to about 300 g C m–2 yr–1 during the last 10 years. 相似文献

Abstract The estimation of flood damage is an important component for risk-oriented flood design, risk mapping, financial appraisals and comparative risk analyses. However, research on flood-loss modelling, especially in the commercial sector, has not gained much attention so far. Therefore, extensive data about flood losses were collected for affected companies via telephone surveys after the floods of 2002, 2005 and 2006 in Germany. Potential loss determining factors were analysed. The new Flood Loss Estimation MOdel for the commercial sector (FLEMOcs) was developed on the basis of 642 loss cases. Losses are estimated depending on water depth, sector and company size as well as precaution and contamination. The model can be applied to the micro-scale, i.e. to single production sites as well as to the meso-scale, i.e. land-use units, thus enabling its countrywide application. Es genügt hierzu die Annahme eines materiellen lichtwellentragenden Mediums mit einer Dichte unterhalb des empirischen Vakuums; das Medium muss dann radial zur Sonne eine geringe Inhomogenität besitzen, die in entsprechenden kleinen Zusatzgliedern in den Maxwellschen Gleichungen ihren Ausdruck findet.Auf protophysikalischer Grundlage aufbauend wird die Phasengleichung (22) der an der Sonne vorbeigehenden Lichtwellen unter einfachsten Annahmen abgeleitet und integriert; als Resultat ergeben sich die drei genannten Effekte in Übereinstimmung mit der Erfahrung (Gleichung (39), (44), (47)).
Shapiro (1968) published the first results of radar-echo-observations on Venus and Mercury in the neighbourhood of upper conjunctions with the Sun; the observations indicate a decrease of the velocity of light passing the Sun. The theory of Soldner is disproved; and the general relativity is in accord with the observed facts. But not this theory alone. In this publication the deflection of light, decrease of the velocity of light, and displacement of spectral-lines are explained with the aid of a wavetheory. Hereby the assumption of a material medium carrying light-waves is sufficient, the density of which is below that of the empirical vacuum; hence, the medium must have a small inhomogeneityh radial to the Sun, and the Maxwell equations contain small additional terms (Equation (3)). They lead to the field equations (4) and (5). The protophysical fundamentals of the wave-theory (6), (8), (9), (10a) lead to the Equations (12) of wave-phase. If we assume that the behaviour of the light passing the Sun is independent (in first approximation) from the wave-form (F), the Equation (22) of wave-phase, is deduced for simple-periodic waves of light. Figure 1 outlines the slope and deflection of the ray of light by the Sun. Section 5 contains the solution of (22); and Section 6 the results. The constant of inhomogeneity =1/210–5 (of the radius of the Sun) produces a deflection (39) of light passing the Sun. The length of waves of the light approaching the Sun is decreased to a minimum and is increasing with increasing distance from the Sun until the former value ((43) and (44)). The paper presents a numerical investigation aimed at evaluating the improvements achievable through devices for passive seismic protection of buildings based on the use of shape memory alloys (SMA) in place of conventional steel or rubber devices. To get some generality in the results, different resisting reinforced concrete plane frames were analysed, either protected or not. ‘New’ and ‘existing’ buildings were considered depending on whether seismic provisions are adopted in the building design or not. Base isolation and energy dissipation were equally addressed for both conventional and innovative SMA‐based devices. Fragility analyses were performed using specific damage measures to account for comparisons among different damage types; the results were then used to estimate quantitatively the effectiveness of the various protection systems. More specifically, the assessment involved a direct comparison of the damage reduction provided by each protection system with respect to the severe degradation experienced by the corresponding non‐protected frame. Structural damage, non‐structural damage and damage to contents were used on purpose and included in a subsequent phase of cost analysis to evaluate the expected gains also in terms of economic benefits and life loss prevention. The results indicate that base isolation, when applicable, provides higher degrees of safety than energy dissipation does; moreover, the use of SMA‐based devices generally brings about better performances, also in consideration of the reduced functional and maintenance requirements. A statistical examination of isotopic distributions for MORB from various ocean ridges leads to the “blob cluster model”, in which the oceanic crust accreting at ridges results from the mixing of two components within the ascending mantle. These are (1) upper mantle material and (2) discrete rising blobs of more radiogenic material. The blobs are fractionated to a variable degree and are distributed in the upper mantle circulation in a manner that is related to the spreading rate.(1) Themean values of the isotopic distributions allow us to calculate the probabilities of the two types of material within the mantle. The results show that theproportion of asthenospheric material in the mixtureincreases with the spreading rate, in agreement with the hypothesis of blob dilution within the upper mantle convection.Mass fluxes can be estimated for the rising blobs from these probabilities, which depend on the respective concentrations in the sources of the two types of material. If the blobs originate in the lower mantle, this flux estimation would suggest that a significant part of the lower mantle has been injected into the upper mantle during earth history.(2) Thestandard deviations of the distributions depend on the “efficiency” of the mixing process:the more imbricated are the asthenospheric and blob materials in the mixture,the smaller is theisotopic spread. This efficiency parameter is shown to increase with the spreading rate, as already suggested by previous comparisons between the East Pacific Rise and the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. A Lagrangian analysis was applied to the outputs of a coupled physical-biogeochemical model to describe the redistribution of nitrate-rich and nitrate-poor surface water masses in the tropical Pacific throughout the major 1997 El Niño. The same tool was used to analyze the causes of nitrate changes along trajectories and to investigate the consequences of the slow nitrate uptake in the high nutrient low chlorophyll (HNLC) region during the growth phase of the event. Three patterns were identified during the drift of water masses. The first mechanism is well known along the equator: oligotrophic waters from the western Pacific are advected eastward and retain their oligotrophic properties along their drift. The second concerns the persistent upwelling in the eastern basin. Water parcels have complex trajectories within this retention zone and remain mesotrophic. This study draws attention to the third process which is very specific to the HNLC region and to the El Niño period. During the 1997 El Niño, horizontal and vertical inputs of nitrate decreased so dramatically that nitrate uptake by phytoplankton became the only mechanism driving nitrate changes along pathways. The study shows that because of the slow nitrate uptake characteristic of the tropical Pacific HNLC system, nitrate in the pre-El Niño photic layer can support biological production for a period of several months. As a consequence, the slow nitrate uptake delays the gradual onset of oligotrophic conditions over nearly all the area usually occupied by upwelled waters. The six best known X-ray binaries are investigated according to the two different assumptions on the mechanism of matter supply. From the model of a semi-detached system with a point-like component, rather good estimates for the masses of the stars and the radius of the optical component can be deduced. The stellar wind model appears to be generally insufficient for driving the X-luminosity. Therefore, according to the mass-ratios, the stars may be at the beginning of mass-exchange. Only 3U 1700-37 shows inconsistent observational data.In the frame of the Roche model, the values of the contact phase angles, in the case of one star filling its lobe and a point-like companion, are given in tabular form in the Appendix, as a function of the mass-ratio and the orbital inclination angle.
