This paper recommends the consideration of sensitivity, stability, risk, and irreversibility as objective functions in water resource management models within the framework of multiobjective analysis. Six major sources of uncertainties and errors in systems modeling are identified. They are associated with the following model characteristics: model structure (topology), model parameters, model scope or focus, data, optimization technique, and human subjectivity. In particular, the major objective of this paper is to set the stage for the development of an analytical and operational multiobjective framework which will provide decision-makers and plamers with alternatives that consider systems' sensitivity, responsivity, stability and irreversibility along with cost and other performance indices as multiple objectives. This type of a framework should have a very wide spectrum of applications in water and related land resources, environmental studies, energy, and others. The thermal infrared maps of Venus published by Murray, Wildey, and Westphal (1963) and Westphal, Wildey, and Murray (1965) have been analyzed systematically in order to separate the observed intensity into a limb-darkening component and a solar-associated component representing fixed patterns of intensity corotating with the earth and sun, respectively. Interesting new results are obtained for the solar-associated component. Regions near the subsolar point and the poles are not covered in the original maps or in the analysis.The solar-associated pattern of intensity is very nearly symmetric about the equator. In both northern and southern hemispheres, an intensity minimum seems to occur near the morning terminator at middle to high latitudes, slightly beyond the limit of the maps. An intensity maximum occurs on the equator slightly to the east of the antisolar point. Three broad ridges of relatively high intensity radiate away from this point, one pointing to the west along the equator, the others pointing to the northeast and southeast, respectively. The eastward tilt of the latter two ridges may indicate that horizontal exchange is important in maintaining the equatorial maximum of zonal momentum which is associated with the 4-day circulation of the Venus atmosphere. 相似文献

This model of a continuously stratified ocean, consisting of surface Ekman and thermal layers and a deep abyssal region, is driven by an unsteady surface wind stress. The model yields a nonlinear planetary wave equation for the surface temperature which is solved by the method of characteristics. Horizontal distributions of the surface temperature, the heat content and the potential energy are computed. For a model zonal wind stress relevant to the North Atlantic, a parameter sensitivity study is made.Long time scale observations of the heat content in the North Atlantic north of 45°N show that periods of heating and cooling of a few decades duration frequently occur. Using a zonal wind stress consisting of the superposition of a mean and two time harmonic components, secular variations in the surface temperature field manifest themselves as a beat period, provided the time harmonic frequencies are close together. Finally, to investigate the effects on the circulation produced by the changing intensity of the westerly winds, numerical results are presented for the case when the wind stress distribution oscillates in the north-south direction with time. Results from the study show that the heating and cooling periods of a few decades duration in the North Atlantic can be reproduced. 相似文献

A potentiostat was used to study the electrolytic corrosion of iron meteorites in a neutral solution. Low current densities were chosen so that the observed potentials would more closely approximate the theoretical Nernst values. Iron, nickel, and cobalt ions, the products of corrosion, were soluble in the electrolyte solution, and were determined after each electrolysis by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Kamacite and taenite dissolved as individual phases, with kamacite dissolving preferentially. Cobalt dissolved along with iron and nickel from each phase. There is a direct relationship between nickel content and the potential at which a meteorite first starts to dissolve; the higher the nickel content, the more resistant the meteorite is to corrosion. Summary. Five hundred and sixteen sites in Arran were sampled. After cleaning by heating and/or alternating fields 87 per cent yielded directions with α95 < 10°, comprising 435 dykes, 12 sills and one granite; polarities could be determined for some of the remainder. Directions are thought to be primary and on average are shallower than corresponds to the mean centred axial dipole, with many shallow reversely-magnetized dykes present.
Seventeen per cent of the dykes are normally magnetized, 5 per cent have intermediate directions. Polarity does not correlate with petrography, thickness or trend, but does depend upon location. In particular, on the NE coast up to 70 per cent are normal, and possibly belong to a different swarm.
Normal polarities were found for both sites in the Northern Granite, for Holy Island and for some of the sills. In conjunction with the known stratigraphy this shows that the rocks were formed during an R-N-R sequence of polarities, or more probably R-N-R-N. We investigated paleolimnological records from a series of river deltas around the northeastern rim of Lake Tanganyika, East Africa (Tanzania and Burundi) in order to understand the history of anthropogenic activity in the lakes catchment over the last several centuries, and to determine the impact of these activities on the biodiversity of littoral and sublittoral lake communities. Sediment pollution caused by increased rates of soil erosion in deforested watersheds has caused significant changes in aquatic communities along much of the lakes shoreline. We analyzed the effects of sediment discharge on biodiversity around six deltas or delta complexes on the east coast of Lake Tanganyika: the Lubulungu River delta, Kabesi River delta, Nyasanga/Kahama River deltas, and Mwamgongo River delta in Tanzania; and the Nyamuseni River delta and Karonge/Kirasa River deltas in Burundi. Collectively, these deltas and their associated rivers were chosen to represent a spectrum of drainage-basin sizes and disturbance levels. By comparing deltas that are similar in watershed attributes (other than disturbance levels), our goal was to explore a series of historical experiments at the watershed scale, with which we could more clearly evaluate hypotheses of land use or other effects on nearshore ecosystems. Here we discuss these deltas, their geologic and physiographic characteristics, and the field procedures used for coring and sampling the deltas, and various indicators of anthropogenic impact. 相似文献
