This paper presents an innovative set of high‐seismic‐resistant structural systems termed Advanced Flag‐Shaped (AFS) systems, where self‐centering elements are used with combinations of various alternative energy dissipation elements (hysteretic, viscous or visco‐elasto‐plastic) in series and/or in parallel. AFS systems is developed using the rationale of combining velocity‐dependent with displacement‐dependent energy dissipation for self‐centering systems, particularly to counteract near‐fault earthquakes. Non‐linear time‐history analyses (NLTHA) on a set of four single‐degree‐of‐freedom (SDOF) systems under a suite of 20 far‐field and 20 near‐fault ground motions are used to compare the seismic performance of AFS systems with the conventional systems. It is shown that AFS systems with a combination in parallel of hysteretic and viscous energy dissipations achieved greater performance in terms of the three performance indices. Furthermore, the use of friction slip in series of viscous energy dissipation is shown to limit the peak response acceleration and induced base‐shear. An extensive parametric analysis is carried out to investigate the influence of two design parameters, λ1 and λ2 on the response of SDOF AFS systems with initial periods ranging from 0.2 to 3.0 s and with various strength levels when subjected to far‐field and near‐fault earthquakes. For the design of self‐centering systems with combined hysteretic and viscous energy dissipation (AFS) systems, λ1 is recommended to be in the range of 0.8–1.6 while λ2 to be between 0.25 and 0.75 to ensure sufficient self‐centering and energy dissipation capacities, respectively. We report on the paleomagnetism of ten sites in the products of the most recent silicic eruptive cycle of Pantelleria, Strait
of Sicily. Previously radiometrically dated at 5–10 ka, our comparison with proxies for geomagnetic field directions allows
us to narrow considerably the time window during which these eruptions occurred. The strongly peralkaline composition causes
the magmas to have low viscosities, locally resulting in strong agglutination of proximal fall deposits. This allows successful
extraction of paleomagnetic directions from the explosive phases of eruptions. One of our sites was located in the Serra della
Fastuca fall deposit, produced by the first explosive event of the eruptive cycle. The other nine sites were located in the
most recent explosive (pumice fall and agglutinate from Cuddia del Gallo and Cuddia Randazzo) and effusive (Khaggiar lava)
products. The (very similar) paleomagnetic directions gathered from eight internally consistent sites were compared to reference
geomagnetic field directions of the last 5–10 ka. Directions from Cuddia del Gallo agglutinate and Khaggiar flows translate
into 5.9- to 6.2-ka ages, whereas the Fastuca pumices yield a slightly older age of 6.2–6.8 ka. Hence, the most recent silicic
eruptive cycle lasted at most a millennium and as little as a few centuries around 6.0 ka. Paleomagnetically inferred ages
are in good agreement with published (and calibrated by us) 14C dates from paleosols/charcoals sampled below the studied volcanic units, whereas K/Ar data are more scattered and yield
∼30% older ages. Our data show that the time elapsed since the most recent silicic eruptions at Pantelleria is comparable
to the quiescence period separating the two latest volcanic cycles. 相似文献

Three groups of thermal springs with temperatures close to 70 °C discharge both in the core (at Bagni di Vinadio and Terme
di Valdieri) and on the external margin (at Berthemont-Les-Bains) of the Argentera Massif. Detailed structural field analysis
carried out on the hydrothermal sites allows us to delineate both a model of Alpine tectonic evolution of the Argentera Massif
and the patterns of hydrothermal circulation that were active during its final exhumation. The observed fault rock assemblages
provide information relative to deformation that occurred in viscous, frictional-to-viscous and frictional crustal regimes.
During the Early Miocene, the Bersezio Fault Zone and the Fremamorta Shear Zone, two main mylonitic shear zones, mainly accommodated
regional transpression and provided pathways for fluid flow promoting mineral reactions in greenschist facies. During the
Late Miocene–Early Pliocene, frictional-to-viscous deformation affected the massif, which underwent predominant transpression
in the internal sectors and extension on the external margin. During the Plio-Pleistocene, deformation in frictional condition
accompanied the final exhumation of the massif in a transpressive regime and resulted in the development of the NW–SE striking
cataclastic zones. The hydraulic properties of these structures mainly influence the patterns of the active thermal circulations
and the localization of the recharge and discharge zones. At Berthemont these faults represent conduits, whereas at Vinadio
and Valdieri they form complex systems of conduits and barriers. In these two latter sites, the cataclastic faults compose
flower structures that constrain laterally the thermal fluid flows while intensely fractured granites sited at depth constitute
a highly-transmissive geothermal reservoir. Less permeable migmatitic gneisses overlaying the granites prevent a massive infiltration
of the cold fluids at depth. This context favours within the high-permeability fractures granites the development of buoyancy-driven
flows which combined with topographically-driven flows, provided the conditions for the upflow of the high-temperature waters. 相似文献

A slow moving compound rock slide located in the northern Apennines of Italy was mapped and monitored through the integration of Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS), multi‐temporal long‐range Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS), and Automated Total Station (ATS) measurements. Landslide features were mapped using a High Resolution Digital Terrain Model (HR‐DTM) obtained by merging ALS and TLS data in an Iterative Closest Point (ICP) procedure. Slope movements in the order of centimeters to a few decimeters were quantified with Differential TLS (D‐TLS) based on a Surface Matching approach and supported by ATS data to define stable reference surfaces. The integrated approach allowed mapping of the composite geomorphic features of the rock slide under examination, revealing its complex dynamic nature and further proving that laser scanning is a versatile and widely applicable tool for slope process analysis. Earthflow‐type landslides are persistent natural hazards having deep socio‐economic and environmental consequences. They have significantly contributed to the geomorphic evolution of mountainous slopes in Europe since the Late Glacial. An understanding of their complex kinematics is crucial to better constrain the processes governing their occurrence and mobility. In this work we explored the possibility to quantify displacement vectors on a spatially distributed basis and to quantify volumetric transfer at the slope scale with regard to a large flow‐type landslide located in the northern Apennines of Italy. For this purpose we applied digital image correlation (DIC) and digital elevation model differencing (DEMoD) techniques to multi‐temporal airborne LiDAR surveys of 2006, 2007 and 2009. The DIC was applied to greyscale slope gradient maps retrieved after precise co‐registration of LiDAR surveys. Thereby, movement patterns over various sectors of the landslide were reconstructed and quantified, most notably up to 20 m in the head zone, up to 51 m in the lower main track, and up to about 27 m at the landslide toe. The DEMoD analysis revealed significant mass transfer from the source to the tracks and toe zone, with the upper flow tracks acting as temporal storage of large amounts of material. The mass balance indicated that significant amounts of advancing landslide debris were eroded by a local stream. An integrated analysis of DEMoD and DIC results allowed for a discussion of governing processes, such as the transition from slide to flow, the influence of underlying topography on earthflow mobility, and the role of undrained loading as a mechanism of toe zone reactivation. In conclusion, the successful application of DIC and DEMoD to the case study underlines the added value of high‐resolution DEMs in the analysis of earthflow kinematics toward a better understanding of their role in the geomorphic evolution of slopes. Studies regarding fibre-reinforcement are restricted to clays, silty and sandy soils. No information is available on gravels.
It is worth checking the effect of randomly oriented discrete fibres also on such soils to see if they can be beneficial and
to get a better insight into the grain to soil interaction mechanism. In this paper, the effect of a small amount of fibres
having high aspect ratio on a sandy gravel was analysed by means of tests carried out in a large triaxial apparatus. Specimens
of both natural and fibre-reinforced sandy gravel were prepared by wet tamping at different relative densities, and were tested
along monotonic and cyclic stress paths. The results show that the addition of a small amount of fibres causes a slight increase
in peak strength and a larger increase in ultimate strength at small confining stress, with an overall more ductile behaviour.
The cyclic tests at small confining stress and intermediate strain levels show that, for the lowest applied strain (of the
order of 10−2%), the stiffness was larger for the reinforced specimens, with a much sharper decrease at larger strains and final values

Detailed sedimentological and geochemical analyses of Upper Cretaceous glaucony-bearing deposits from the middle portion of the Castro de Fuentidueña Formation, in Central Spain, enable identification of a multiphase history of glaucony accumulation. Despite its relatively high maturity (K2O > 7%), glaucony from the transgressive subtidal sandstones has anomalously low concentration in the host rock (generally <10%), suggesting remobilization from a different source. The remarkable thickness of the glaucony-bearing horizons, concurrently with concentration of glaucony in laminae, small size, and high degree of roundness and sorting provide further evidence for an allochthonous origin of the green grains. In contrast, authigenic glaucony from the overlying offshore clays exhibits higher abundance (up to 45%) and lower maturity (K2O < 7%) and is interpreted to have formed in situ. Allochthonous glaucony originally developed in more distal areas during a prolonged period of sediment starvation. The green grains were then swept away from their place of origin and concentrated into tidal bars and channels within the upper transgressive systems tract of the third-order depositional sequence. Maximum concentration of autochthonous glaucony is recorded at the transition from tidal-influenced to offshore deposits: this glaucony, which is relatively less evolved due to lower time available for maturation, is interpreted to reflect the turnaround from transgressive to highstand conditions, marking the condensed section of the depositional sequence. As postulated by previous sequence-stratigraphic models, this study documents that allochthonous glaucony can be widespread throughout the transgressive systems tract (TST), while the condensed section (CS) typically hosts autochthonous glaucony. Contrary to the existing literature, however, this study shows that glaucony from the TST may be even more mature than glaucony from the CS, if enough time for maturation during transgression is allowed before the ultimate concentration of the green grains. Identification of spatial and temporal characteristics of glaucony, thus, is critical to a reliable sequence-stratigraphic interpretation of the glaucony-bearing deposits. 相似文献

We describe a methodology for identifying complex rift zones on recent or active volcanoes, where structures hidden by recent
deposits and logistical conditions might prevent carrying out detailed fieldwork. La Réunion island was chosen as a test-site.
We used georeferenced topographic maps, aerial photos and digital terrain models to perform a statistical analysis of several
morphometric parameters of pyroclastic cones. This provides a great deal of geometric information that can help in distinguishing
the localisation and orientation of buried magma-feeding fractures, which constitute the surface expression of rift zones.
It also allowed the construction of a complete GIS database of the pyroclastic cones. La Réunion is a perfect example where
past and active volcanic rift zones are mostly expressed by clusters of monogenic centres. The data has been validated in
the field and compared and integrated with the distribution and geometry of dyke swarms. Results show the presence of several
main and secondary rift segments of different ages, locations and orientations, whose origin is discussed considering regional
tectonics, local geomorphology, and volcano deformation. 相似文献
