Two main goals are considered in this paper: (1) modification and computation of the local coefficients of the space-time windows in the well-known declustering algorithm introduced by Gardner and Knopoff (1974) and (2) checking the independence of the Iranian mainshocks obtained from applying the new modified model. First, 21 of the well-documented earthquake sequences of Iran in the time period of 1972 to 2008 with the mainshock magnitude ranged from M w = 5.4–7.1 were used to define the new local space-time windows of declustering. Generally, using these Iranian earthquake sequences led to introduce bigger space-time windows for the new model in comparison to the Gardner and Knopoff’s (1974) windows. In the next step, to control the independence of Iranian mainshocks, the events of the Iranian earthquake catalog in the time span of 1964–2010 with moment magnitude of M w = 3.5–7.4 were used. In this respect, dependent events corresponding to the seven seismotectonic zones of Iran were removed using the new modified space-time windows. After declustering, the mainshock catalog was examined by the Kolmogorov–Smirnov goodness-of-fit test, and it was found to follow a Poisson distribution in all the studied seismotectonic zones of Iran. The same test on times between successive declustered events shows that the inter-event times of all catalogs follow an exponential distribution.  相似文献

Water leakage paths in the Doosti Dam,Turkmenistan and Iran   总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0  
The Doosti Dam, with a reservoir capacity of 1,250 million cubic meters, was constructed on the Harirood River at the border of Turkmenistan and Iran. The reservoir is in direct contact with permeable formations on the right abutment of the dam including the Neyzar Sandstone, the Kalat Limestone and the Pesteleigh alternative layers of marlstone and sandstone. After the reservoir impoundment, several new springs and seepages emerged from these formations and the alluvium. The amount of leakage increased with the rise in reservoir water level. Fifteen kilograms of sodium fluorescein were injected into a 113-m deep borehole intersecting three permeable sandstone layers of the Pesteleigh formation. Dye was detected downstream of the grout curtain in boreholes and springs that were in direct contact with parts of the Pesteleigh formation having the same sandstone layers as the injection borehole. The dye velocity was in the range of diffuse flow, confirming the good performance of the grout curtain in the Pesteleigh formation. No dye was detected in the other formations because the injection borehole was not in direct contact with these formations. The hydraulic relation of the other formations with the reservoir was determined by considering direct contact of the formations with the reservoir, emergence of new springs and seepages after reservoir impoundment, correlation of time variations of the springs discharge and the borehole’s water level with the reservoir water level, and in some cases the hydrochemistry of the water. The results show that the Kalat and Neyzar formations are hydraulically connected to the reservoir, but the small amounts of leakage from these formations at a hydraulic gradient of 24% indicates good performance of the built grout curtain. The total reservoir leakage at maximum reservoir water level was 100 l/s which is insignificant compared with the 15 m3/s average annual release of the reservoir.  相似文献

The geochemical processes controlling chemical composition of groundwater are studied using hydrochemical and isotopic data in Abdan-Dayer coastal plain, south of Iran. The salinity of groundwater in the coastal plain ranges from 1,000, a fresh end-member, to more than 50,000 μS cm?1, a saline end-member. Groundwater salinity increases from the recharge area toward areas with a shallow water table close to the Persian Gulf coast due to direct evaporation and sea water intrusion as confirmed by mixing binary diagrams, stable isotope content, and Br?/Cl? ratio. Groundwater flow pattern in the study area has been modified due to over-pumping of groundwater in recent years which resulted in further saline water migration toward fresh water and their mixing. The maximum mixing ratio is estimated about 15% in different parts of the study area according to chloride concentration.  相似文献

Landslide susceptibility and hazard assessments are the most important steps in landslide risk mapping. The main objective of this study was to investigate and compare the results of two artificial neural network (ANN) algorithms, i.e., multilayer perceptron (MLP) and radial basic function (RBF) for spatial prediction of landslide susceptibility in Vaz Watershed, Iran. At first, landslide locations were identified by aerial photographs and field surveys, and a total of 136 landside locations were constructed from various sources. Then the landslide inventory map was randomly split into a training dataset 70 % (95 landslide locations) for training the ANN model and the remaining 30 % (41 landslides locations) was used for validation purpose. Nine landslide conditioning factors such as slope, slope aspect, altitude, land use, lithology, distance from rivers, distance from roads, distance from faults, and rainfall were constructed in geographical information system. In this study, both MLP and RBF algorithms were used in artificial neural network model. The results showed that MLP with Broyden–Fletcher–Goldfarb–Shanno learning algorithm is more efficient than RBF in landslide susceptibility mapping for the study area. Finally the landslide susceptibility maps were validated using the validation data (i.e., 30 % landslide location data that was not used during the model construction) using area under the curve (AUC) method. The success rate curve showed that the area under the curve for RBF and MLP was 0.9085 (90.85 %) and 0.9193 (91.93 %) accuracy, respectively. Similarly, the validation result showed that the area under the curve for MLP and RBF models were 0.881 (88.1 %) and 0.8724 (87.24 %), respectively. The results of this study showed that landslide susceptibility mapping in the Vaz Watershed of Iran using the ANN approach is viable and can be used for land use planning.  相似文献

Radionuclides which present in different beach sands are sources of external exposure that contribute to the total radiation exposure of human. 226Ra, 235U, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs analysis has been carried out in sand samples collected at six depth levels, from eight locations of the northern coast of Iran, Ramsar, using high-resolution gamma-ray spectroscopy. The average Specific activities of natural radionuclides viz., 226Ra, 235U, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs, in the 0–36 cm depth sand were found as: 19.2 ± 0.04, 2.67 ± 0.17, 17.9 ± 0.06, 337.5 ± 0.61 and 3.35 ± 0.12 Bq kg−1, respectively. The effects of organic matter content and pH value of sand samples on the natural radionuclide levels were also investigated. Finally, the measured radionuclide concentrations in the Ramsar beach were compared with the world average values, as reported by UNSCEAR (2000). None of the studied beaches were considered as a radiological risk.  相似文献

Moment tensor inversion of nine events in Iran using INSN data   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In this research, moment tensor (MT) inversion procedure in frequency domain is applied to nine events in order to evaluate the data efficiencies in computing source parameters of earthquakes in Iran. The events are recorded by Iranian National Seismological Network (INSN) stations, currently comprising 22 broadband stations. For the purpose of this study, first, the inversion procedure is applied to obtain source parameters. Then, the results obtained here are compared with those of Harvard global centroid moment tensors (GCMT) in order to estimate their reliabilities. The results show reasonable consistencies with those of Harvard GCMT within 0.075 uncertainties in logarithmic scalar moment or 0.05 in moment magnitude and 20° in Kagan angle for focal angles. Furthermore, according to the present research, the calculated source parameters are not significantly sensitive to the azimuthal gap.  相似文献

By co-depositing a gas mixture of simple carbon- and nitrogen-containing molecules with water on a 10 K surface and exposing it to ultraviolet radiation, we were able to form a residue. This residue was then placed aboard the EURECA satellite behind a magnesium fluoride window and exposed to solar radiation for 4 months before it was returned and analyzed. The resulting residue is believed to simulate the photoprocessing of organic dust mantles in the interstellar medium. Mass spectrometry indicated that the photoprocessing created a rich mixture of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and other conjugated organic molecules, which may explain how PAHs are replenished in space.  相似文献
