Inverse modeling of variable-density groundwater flow in a semi-arid area in Iran using a genetic algorithm 总被引:3,自引:1,他引:2
Flow and mass transport parameter estimation was done by creating an inverse model of a seawater intrusion system using a genetic algorithm (GA) method as the optimization procedure. Firstly, the SEAWAT code was used for the forward solution part and then a program was written in MATLAB for coupling the forward and inverse processes. The auto-calibration objective function was defined with the root mean square errors (RMSE) between the observed and the simulated values. A simple GA was used to minimize the RMSE criterion. The methodology was applied to a coastal aquifer with heterogeneous formations in a semi-arid area near salty Tashk Lake (electrical conductivity 61,420 µS/cm), Fars province, Iran. In the last two decades, the overexploitation of groundwater has caused a major water level drawdown and, consequently, salt-water intrusion. Firstly, flow and transport parameters (hydraulic conductivity, porosity, specific storage coefficient and longitudinal dispersivity) were estimated simultaneously in steady-state and, secondly, in the developed code, these results were used as initial values of the parameters in transient-state. Results show a good match for observed and simulated data. It can be concluded that GA is a helpful tool for automatic calibration of variable density fluid systems such as seawater intrusion cases. 相似文献

The objective of the study is to reveal the seasonal variations in the river water quality with respect to heavy metals contamination. To get the extend of trace metals contamination, water samples were collected from twelve different locations along the course of the river and its tributaries on summer and the winter seasons. The concentrations of trace metals such as cadmium, cromium, copper, cobalt, iron, manganese, nickel, lead, mercury and zinc were determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Most of the samples were found within limit of Indian drinking water standard (IS: 10500). The data generated were used to calculate the heavy metal pollution index of river water. The mean values of HPI were 36.19 in summer and 32.37 for winter seasons and these values are well below the critical index limit of 100 because of the sufficient flow in river system. Mercury and chromium could not be traced in any of the samples in the study area. 相似文献

An empirical method for design of grouted bolts in rock tunnels based on the Geological Strength Index (GSI) 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
The procedure presented in this paper has been developed for the design of grouted rock bolts in rock tunnels during preliminary design stage. The proposed approach provides a step-by-step procedure to set up a series of practical guidelines for optimum pattern of rock bolting in a variety of rock mass qualities. For this purpose, a new formula for the estimation of the rock load (support pressure) is recommended. Due to its wide-spread acceptance in the field of rock engineering, the Geological Strength Index (GSI) is adopted in support pressure equation. For poor and very poor rock mass where the GSI < 27, the use of Modified-GSI is, instead, recommended. The supporting action is assumed to be provided by rock bolts carrying a total load defined by the rock load height. The mechanism of bolting is assumed to rely on roof arch forming and suspension principle. Integrated with support pressure function, the bolt density parameter is modified in order to provide an optimized bolt pattern for any shape of tunnel. The modified bolt density can also be used in analysis of a reinforced tunnel in terms of Ground Reaction Curve (GRC) in such a way as to evaluate the reinforced rock mass and the tunnel convergence. By doing so, the effectiveness of the bolting pattern is well evaluated. The proposed approach based on GSI is believed to overcome constrains and limitations of existing empirical bolt design methods based on RMR or Q-system, which are doubtful in poor rock mass usage. The applicability of the proposed method is illustrated by the stability analysis and bolt design of a rail-road tunnel in Turkey. 相似文献

Material engineers are continually confronted by depletion of quality construction materials for road and airfield construction.
Even if good quality construction materials for road and airfield are available, the haul costs may preclude their use. Stabilization
of soils in order to improve strength and durability properties often relies on cement, lime, fly ash, and asphalt emulsion.
These materials are inexpensive, relatively easy to apply, and provide benefits to many different soil types. In addition,
there are a variety of nontraditional soil stabilization/modification additives available from the commercial sector such
as polymer emulsions, acids, lignin derivatives, enzymes, tree resin emulsions, and silicates. These additives may be in liquid
or solid state and are often touted to be applicable for most soils. Polymers may be easy to apply in permeable materials
such as sand and may achieve good stabilization in relatively shorter periods of time. These polymer materials can be used
for stabilizing, soil in road shoulders, slopes, and pads of military and emergency airports. In addition, these types of
materials can be used to prevent the movement of the dune sands on the sides of railroads and stabilizing the dust on the
surface of access roads. Within the present research, two different polymers of wide range of dosages have been applied. Following
results have been achieved: (1) These polymers improve the compressive strength from 0.03 N/mm2 for control sample to 5.2 N/mm2
for improved sample. (2) The optimum curing time of dune sands with different polymers is 7 days. (3) The UC strength of stabilized
samples soars with an increase in the temperature, in the first 24 h of the curing process. (4) When the concentration of
salt increased from 1 to 10 percent, UC strength of stabilized samples decreased. 相似文献

The present study tends to describe the survey of climatic changes in the case of the eastern and central areas of Iran and, to some extent, the northern parts. The monthly and yearly change trends in the minimum, maximum and mean temperatures, relative humidity, and the precipitation were surveyed for 26 synoptic stations in Iran during a 55-year period. The study was carried out by using the ??-Kendall test. The results showed the same temperature changes for the centrally located stations as the eastern and northern ones. Most of the stations in Zagros showed no significant temperature changes. A significant decrease in the precipitation was seen in summer in different stations. Most of the eastern and centrally located stations showed a decrease in relative humidity trend, while this condition was not recorded in Zagros and northern part of Iran. The present results also showed that the upward trend of minimum air temperature had an effect in increasing the mean air temperature in the stations with temperature ascending trend. This effect of minimum temperature was significantly more than that of the maximum temperature, which could be the result of increasing the amount of greenhouse gases and the reflection of received thermal energies, from land through the night. This increase in the temperature and a decrease in relative humidity would cause an increase in the evaporation of the received precipitation. 相似文献

Nonlinear static analysis procedures are key tools in evaluating the performance of existing buildings and verifying the design
of seismic retrofits in seismically active regions. In this procedure, nonlinear force-displacement or moment-curvature (M-φ) behavior needs to be defined. In the ATC-40 document, values of M-φ have been proposed to model elements in a nonlinear procedure. However, these values need to be investigated to determine
if they are representative of actual values. In this paper, an attempt has been made to numerically derive M-φ curves to simulate actual performance. Then, these curves are compared with the ATC-40 recommended curves with respect to
various parameters. The study indicated that ATC-40 suggested values are conservative in nature in most situations. 相似文献

Drought is one of the most important natural hazards in Iran. Therefore, drought monitoring has become a point of concern
for most of the researchers. In the present study, the changes and trend of drought was surveyed, under the current global
climate changes, by non parametric Mann–Kendall statistical test for 42 synoptic stations at different places of Iran. Standardized
Precipitation Index (SPI) was calculated to recognize the drought condition at different time scales (3, 6, 9, 12, 18 and
24 months’ time series) for analyzing the drought trend in the recent 30 years. The obtained results have indicated a significant
negative trend of drought in many parts of Iran, especially the South-East, West and South-West regions of the country. According
to the results, although some parts of Iran such as North (around the Caspian Sea) and Northeast show no significant trend
but in other parts of country, the severity of drought has increased during the last 30 years. 相似文献
