The concentration of 10 to 15 siderophile elements was determined in the magnetic and non-magnetic portions of Abee (E4) and Hvittis (E6). The results indicate that, with the exception of Cu, W and Fe, all elements are strongly concentrated in the metal phase. Unlike ordinary chondrites, the metal phase of Abee and Hvittis consists exclusively of kamacite, which is very homogeneous and shows no systematic variation in composition with grain size.Differences in siderophile element content between Abee and Hvittis can be accounted for exclusively by differences in metal content and composition. These differences reflect different degrees of refractory siderophile loss, metal-silicate fractionation and loss of moderately volatile elements. The Ir/Ni ratio is 25% lower in Abee than in Hvittis, indicating that more Ir (Os, Pt, etc.) was lost from Abee during the refractory element fractionation. Abee and the other E4–5 members have also lost no metal and are not depleted in moderately volatile elements. In Abee the non-refractory elements Fe to Ge are present in CI ratios, and this meteorite has also Ir/Re ratios ?CI.These differences, which are recorded in the composition of the metal phase, make a straightforward genetic relationship between the two enstatite chondrite groups difficult to accept. In particular, the different Ir/Ni ratios, which were established very early in the chemical history of these chondrites, at the time of the refractory element fractionation, force us to conclude that E4–5 and E6 chondrites evolved from two different reservoirs, and that exchange of material among them never occurred. However, members of both groups have similar cosmic ray exposure ages suggesting derivation from the same parent body, which poses some interesting problems.  相似文献

The temporal variability of suspended sediment, nitrates (NO3) and dissolved (DOC) and particulate organic carbon concentrations was analysed in the Alegria agricultural watershed over a 2‐year period. Nine storm events were studied, including an exhaustive analysis of hydrometeorological conditions, quantification of fluxes, and concentration‐discharge hysteresis loop characterization. The overall aim was to study the variability in these components during storm events and determine the mechanisms (flow paths) affecting the trajectories, from the source to the stream. The forms, rotational patterns and trends of hysteretic loops were investigated, and relationships between hysteresis features and hydrological parameters were studied. The results revealed clear differences between particulate (suspended sediment, particulate organic carbon) and dissolved (DOC, NO3) matter transport responses. Movement of the particulate matter was attributed to surface water, as reflected in clockwise hysteresis loops, whereas dissolved matter showed, in general, counterclockwise hysteresis loops, indicating a time delay in the arrival of solutes to the stream. In environmental studies, numerical simulation models are valuable tools for testing hypothesis about systems functioning and to perform sensitivity studies under scenarios of land use or climate changes. The simulations depend upon parameters which are not always measurable quantities and must be calibrated against observations, using for instance inverse modelling. Due to the scarcity of these observations, it has been found that parameter sets allowing a good matching between simulated and measured quantities are often non-unique, leading to the problem of equifinality. This can lead to non-physical values, erroneous fluxes and misleading sensitivity analysis. Therefore, a simple but robust inverse method coined the Linking Test is presented to determine if the parameters are linked. Linked parameters are then sub-divided into classes according to their impact on water fluxes. The Linking Test establishes the causes of non-uniqueness of parameter sets and the feasibility of the inverse modelling.  相似文献

Surface soil and sediment samples collected along a forest-brackish marsh-salt marsh transect in a southeastern U.S. estuary were separated into three different fractions (sand, macro-organic matter, and humus) based on size and density. Elemental, stable carbon isotope, and lignin analyses of these samples reveal important contrasts in the quantity, composition, and sources of organic matter, between forest and marsh sites. Elevated nitrogen contents in humus samples suggest nitrogen incorporation during humification is most extensive in forest soils relative to the marsh sites. The lignin compositions of the macro-organic and humus samples reflect the predominant type of vegetation at each site. Lignin phenol ratios indicate that woody and nonwoody litter from, gymnosperm and angiosperms trees (pines and oaks) is the major source of vascular plant-derived organic matter in the forest site and that angiosperm, grasses (Juncus andSpartina) are the major sources of lignin at the marsh sites. The phenol distributions also reveal that oxidative degradation of lignin is most extensive in the forest and brackish marsh zones whereas little lignin decay occurs in the salt marsh samples. In forest soils, most organic matter originates from highly altered forest vegetation while at the brackish marsh site organic matter is a mixture of degradedJuncus materials and microbial/algal remains. Organic matter in the salt marsh appears to be composed of a more complex mixture of sources, including degradedSpartina detritus as well as algal and microbial inputs. Microbial methane oxidation appears to be an important process and a source of13C depleted organic carbon in subsurface sediments at this site.  相似文献

In Mexico, open dumps that are maintained by the municipality but provide no covering of waste are not uncommon. Further, disposal at these sites is often performed by burning. The aim of this study was to determine the leachate plume from an open dump located in a depositional deltaic environment, with arid climate, low rainfall and where the water table is about 2 m below the surface. The methodology comprised analysis of groundwater monitoring wells and geophysical and geochemical prospecting techniques. The 3D geoelectric interpretation shows a typical area of these depositional environments with low resistive values (10–20 Ω-m) associated with the presence of sands and clays interbedded. However, there is a very low resistivity zone associated with the dump’s impact which reaches values below 5 Ω-m, and it is located where the disposal and burning of wastes occurred. Another zone with values above 16 Ω-m appears as a limit for the advance of the saline. This is interpreted as a sandy lenses area. These sandy lenses with higher porosity transport aquifer’s water. Thus the dump is in direct contact by this conduct with clean groundwater. Piper diagrams constructed with the chemical data analysis reveal that the groundwater in the area corresponds to the chlorinated and/or sulfated sodium type, showing the impact caused by the dump. The monitoring well (NP8, on-site) with the highest dissolved solids content behaves anomalously and belongs to the more conductive zone according to the geoelectric profiles. The subsoil geochemical behavior is influenced by the seasonal water table variations provoking the dissolution of burned and unburned wastes, but the effects of slow flows in the direction of the regional flow are not discarded. Although the most impacted area within the dump is characterized to a depth of 10 m, there is a slow flow in the direction of the regional flow that has been moving pollutants out of the dumpsite during its almost 20 years of operation. The results of this study provide valuable information for the authorities to carry out an appropriate restoration project.  相似文献

The dynamics of trace elements from phosphate rock ore to the environment in a phosphoric acid plant located in SW Spain and the impact of phosphogypsum wastes were investigated through total digestion and BCR-sequential extraction. Based on total concentration, element transfer factors as criteria for examining the potential environmental risk of waste with respect to ore rock were calculated, and it was observed that most trace elements are only transferred into phosphogypsum at rates of 2–12%. However, based on those concentrations that are likely to be most readily mobile in the environment, phosphogypsum acts as a higher emission source of contaminants than the original rock. About 100 million tonnes of phosphogypsum are stack-piled in a dump of 1200 ha over salt-marshes of an estuary formed by the confluence of the Tinto and Odiel rivers. Phosphogypsum has been applied, at the recommended rate of 20–25 t/ha since 1978–2001, to improve fertility and reduce Na saturation in agricultural soils of the Guadalquivir river valley (140 km2). Phosphogypsum capacity as a source of mobile contaminants in three environmental scenarios (water leaching, exposure to oxidising and reducing conditions) was quantified by combining sequential extraction and waste mass. The amounts of mobile contaminants that could be released for every tonne of phosphogypsum are approximately 7 × 102 g Sr, 1.1 × 10g Fe, 55 g Y, 30 g Ce, 12 g Cr, 11 g Ti, 5 g Zn, 4 g each of Cu and Pb, 3 g each of V and Cd, 2 g each of As and Ni and 1 g U. Multiplying these amounts by 100 Mt and 20–25 t/ha, it is possible to calculate risk assessments of phosphogypsum for both estuarine zones, e.g. in a hypothetical stack collapse and waste spilling, and agricultural soils, respectively.  相似文献

This study is one of very few dealing with mining waste contamination in high altitude, tropical-latitude areas exploited during the last century. Geochemical, mineralogical and hydrological characterizations of potentially harmful elements (PHEs) in surface waters and sediments were performed in the Milluni Valley (main reservoir of water supply of La Paz, Bolivia, 4000 m a.s.l.), throughout different seasons during 2002–2004 to identify contamination sources and sinks, and contamination control parameters. PHE concentrations greatly exceeded the World Health Organization water guidelines for human consumption. The very acidic conditions, which resulted from the oxidation of sulfide minerals in mining waste, favoured the enrichment of dissolved PHEs (Cd > Zn ? As ? Cu ∼ Ni > Pb > Sn) in surface waters downstream from the mine. Stream and lake sediments, mining waste and bedrock showed the highest PHE content in the mining area. With the exception of Fe, the PHEs were derived from specific minerals (Fe, pyrite; Zn, Cd, sphalerite, As, Fe, arsenopyrite, Cu, Fe, chalcopyrite, Pb, galena, Sn, cassiterite), but the mining was responsible for PHEs availability. Most of the PHEs were extremely mobile (As > Fe > Pb > Cd > Zn ∼ Cu > Sn) in the mining wastes and the sediments downstream from the mine. pH and oxyhydroxides mainly explained the contrasted availability of Zn (mostly in labile fractions) and As (associated with Fe-oxyhydroxides). Unexpectedly, Pb, Zn, As, and Fe were significantly attenuated by organic matter in acidic lake sediments.  相似文献

Sedimentary rocks of the Lower Cretaceous in the Subbetic of the Alamedilla area (province of Granada) were studied. In this area, a significant amount of redeposited sediments within the Carretero Formation were recorded. Resedimented material is mainly composed of Jurassic oolitic limestones and volcanic rocks, as well as of Neocomian hemipelagic sedimentary rocks (marly limestones and marls). All these redeposited sediments corresponding to rock fall and debris flow originated as the result of significant slopes in a very sharp submarine topography. Volcanism and the resultant volcanic edifices created this sharp slopes making up in some cases guyots. The volcanism was mainly active in the Middle Jurassic, although it persisted locally until Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous, and controlled the sedimentation in this area of the Subbetic basin during most of the Mesozoic. The proposed genetic model is in agreement with a base-of-slope apron model with two significant special features: (1) the provenance of the clasts mainly from Jurassic outcrops with oolites deposited in guyots and isolated marine platforms, and volcanic submarine rocks, and (2) the palaeobathymetry of the deposits, relatively shallow and sporadically affected by storm waves.  相似文献

A constitutive framework for the simulation of the time-dependent behaviour of soft structured clays has been developed from the combination of a number of existing modelling approaches. The formulation accounts, in a natural way, for time-dependent phenomena such as loading rate dependency, stress relaxation, ageing, and creep deformations under constant load. In addition, the effect of structure is accounted for. To demonstrate the potential of the proposed approach, a specific model based on this framework is described and applied to the simulation of a number of relevant laboratory tests from the literature.
