The objective of this paper is twofold: 1) to validate the German stream typology for Schleswig-Holstein, and 2) to develop an assessment system for lake outlets. The German stream typology, based on a top-down analysis of geomorphological variables, was validated using biotic data of streams in Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany. A null model analysis was conducted to test for differences between seven stream types (sand streams and rivers, gravel streams and rivers, partly-mineralic streams, limnic marsh streams, and lake outlets). The dataset compiled for the statistical analysis comprised 28 streams, 65 different sampling sites, 428 samples, and 296 taxa. The analysis confirmed all stream type except partly-mineralic streams, which showed faunal overlap with all types except gravel streams. Gravel streams were the most distinctive stream type. Lake outlets were shown to be a unique type, having a distinct macroinvertebrate fauna. Furthermore it was shown, that the species composition differed between lentic and lotic outlets. Canonical correspondence analysis of 19 investigated lake outlets revealed that characteristics of the lakes had only a minor effect on macroinvertebrate community structure.

The developed assessment system of lake outlets was based on the habitat association of 132 macroinvertebrate taxa. Taxa were allotted to five categories of lake outlet preferences depending on the results from ordinations, frequency tables and abundance distributions. A qualitative and a quantitative lake outlet index (LTI) were tested with independent data sets. The quantitative LTIquan proved to be more robust and only slightly affected by seasonal changes in the macroinvertebrate community composition. Assessments of lake outlets based on macroinvertebrates should be conducted in spring and autumn to reduce the risk of misclassifications, in particular, for boundary cases rated between good and moderate quality classes.  相似文献

Rising methane gas bubbles form massive hydrate layers at the seafloor   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Extensive methane hydrate layers are formed in the near-surface sediments of the Cascadia margin. An undissociated section of such a layer was recovered at the base of a gravity core (i.e. at a sediment depth of 120 cm) at the southern summit of Hydrate Ridge. As a result of salt exclusion during methane hydrate formation, the associated pore waters show a highly elevated chloride concentration of 809 mM. In comparison, the average background value is 543 mM.A simple transport-reaction model was developed to reproduce the Cl observations and quantify processes such as hydrate formation, methane demand, and fluid flow. From this first field observation of a positive Cl anomaly, high hydrate formation rates (0.15-1.08 mol cm−2 a−1) were calculated. Our model results also suggest that the fluid flow rate at the Cascadia accretionary margin is constrained to 45-300 cm a−1. The amount of methane needed to build up enough methane hydrate to produce the observed chloride enrichment exceeds the methane solubility in pore water. Thus, most of the gas hydrate was most likely formed from ascending methane gas bubbles rather than solely from CH4 dissolved in the pore water.  相似文献

Clinopyroxenes of the solid solution series hedenbergite (CaFeSi2O6)–petedunnite (CaZnSi2O6) were synthesized at temperatures of 825–1200°C and pressures of 0.5–2.5 GPa. Compositions were determined by electron microprobe analysis. Selected crystals were investigated by means of single crystal diffraction and structure refinement and the structural distortion was studied depending on the substitution of iron by zinc on the octahedral M1 site. It is shown that the coordination of the M1 site has the most significant effect on M–O bond lengths, with changes on the other sites accommodating this distortion. The mean quadratic elongation and the octahedral angle variance as quantitative measures of the distortion of the coordination polyhedron were correlated with former results of 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy at 298 K. The results presented now complete an earlier work on synthetic, crystalline powders of the same material and deliver exact structural data that were not possible to obtain by Rietveld refinements on powder data.  相似文献

In many areas of Svalbard, the Neoglacial terminal deposits represent the Holocene glacial maximum. The glaciers began the retreat from their Neoglacial maximum positions around 1900 AD. Based on high resolution acoustic data and sediment cores, sedimentation patterns in four tidewater glacier-influenced inlets of the fjord Isfjorden (Tempelfjorden, Billefjorden, Yoldiabukta and Borebukta), Spitsbergen, were investigated. A model for sedimentation of tidewater glaciers in these High Arctic environments is proposed. Glacigenic deposits occur in proximal and distal basins. The proximal basins comprise morainal ridges and hummocky moraines, bounded by terminal moraines marking the maximum Neoglacial ice extent. The distal basins are characterized by debris lobes and draping stratified glacimarine sediments beyond, and to some extent beneath and above, the lobes. The debris lobe in Tempelfjorden is composed of massive clayey silt with scattered clasts. Distal glacimarine sediments comprise stratified clayey silt with low ice-rafted debris (IRD) content. The average sedimentation rate for the glacimarine sediments in Tempelfjorden is 17 mm/yr for the last ca. 130 years. It is suggested that the stratified sediments in Tempelfjorden are glacimarine varves. The high sedimentation rate and low IRD content are explained by input from rivers, in addition to sedimentation from suspension of glacial meltwater. The debris lobes in Borebukta are composed of massive clayey silt with high clast content. Distal glacimarine sediments in Yoldiabukta comprise clayey silt with high IRD content. The average sedimentation rate for these sediments is 0.6 mm/yr for the last 2300 years.  相似文献

The quantification of debris‐flow hazard requires estimates of debris‐flow frequency and magnitude. Several methods have been proposed to determine the probable volume of future debris flows from a given basin, but most have neglected to account for debris recharge rates over time, which may lead to underestimation of debris‐flow volumes in basins with rare debris flows. This paper deals with the determination of debris recharge rates in debris‐flow channels based on knowledge of debris storage and the elapsed time since the last debris flow. Data are obtained from coastal British Columbia and a relation is obtained across a sample of basins with similar terrain and climatic conditions. For Rennell Sound on the west coast of the Queen Charlotte Islands, the power‐law relation for area‐normalized recharge rate, Rt, versus elapsed time, te was Rt = 0·23te?0·58 with an explained variance of 75 per cent. A difference in recharge rates may exist between creeks in logged and unlogged forested terrain. The power function for undisturbed terrain was Rt = 0·20te?0·49, while the function for logged areas was Rt = 0·30te?0·77. This result suggests that for the same elapsed time since the last debris flow, clearcut gullies tend to recharge at a slower rate than creeks in old growth forest. This finding requires verification, particularly for longer elapsed times since debris flow, but would have important implications for forest resource management in steep coastal terrain. Oscillatory or competitive nucleation about a binary (or perhaps pseudo binary) eutectic and ensuing crystal growth and settling is a commonly suggested means of producing layering in magmatic systems. A quantitative model is presented of this, outwardly, relatively simple process of crystal nucleation, growth, and settling in an otherwise initially crystal-free magma. Avrami-style kinetics of crystallization in an always wellmixed body, buried in conductive wall rock, are coupled to a Stokes-like formulation of crystal settling in magma whose viscosity depends on temperature and crystallinity. Two dimensionless numbers (Se, the settling number and Av, the Avrami or kinetic number) govern all the results. Av and Se measure the relative importance of crystallization time and settling time, respectively, relative to the overall cooling time. For any value of Av, which increases strongly with the maximum nucleation and growth rates and cooling time, layering is possible only over a range or window of values of Se. Both above and below this window a single layer (crystalline below, vitric above) forms, and within this window the number of layers increases systematically with increasing Av and Se. Grain size within any single layer generally coarsens upward. Because the characteristic settling and cooling times both depend on body thickness, the lower limit of the settling window is also dependent on sheet thickness. Within the confines of this model and for nucleation and growth rates set by those observed in natural systems, layering is unlikely in sheet-like magmas thinner than about 100 m. When the body is not always well-mixed and crystallization is within inward-propagating solidification fronts, it is expected that this minimum body thickness will increase.  相似文献

During seven expeditions new data were obtained on the maximum extent of glaciation in Tibet and the surrounding mountains. Evidence was found of moraines at altitudes as low as 980 m on the S flank of the Himalayas and 2300 m on the N slope of the Tibetan Plateau, in the Qilian Shan. On the N slopes of the Karakoram, Aghil and Kuen Lun moraines occur as far down as 1900 m. In S Tibet radiographic analyses of erratics document former ice thicknesses of at least 1200 m. Glacial polishing and knobs in the Himalayas, Karakoram etc. are proof of glaciers as thick as 1200–2000 m. On the basis of this evidence, a 1100–1600 m lower equilibrium line altitude (ELA) was reconstructed for the Ice Age, which would mean 2.4 million km2 of ice covering almost all of Tibet, since the ELA was far below the average altitude of Tibet. On Mt. Everest and K2 radiation was measured up to 6650 m, yielding values of 1200–1300 W/m2. Because of the subtropical latitude and the high altitude solar radiation in Tibet is 4 times greater than the energy intercepted between 60 and 70° N or S. With an area of 2.4 million km2 and an albedo of 90% the Tibetan ice sheet caused the same heat loss to the earth as a 9.6 million km2 sized ice sheet at 60–70° N. Because of its proximity to the present-day ELA, Tibet must have undergone large-scale glaciation earlier than other areas. Being subject to intensive radiation, the Tibetan ice must have performed an amplifying function during the onset of the Ice Age. At the maximum stage of the last ice age the cooling effect of the newly formed, about 26 million km2 sized ice sheets of the higher latitudes was about 3 times that of the Tibetan ice. Nevertheless, without the initial impulse of the Tibetan ice such an extensive glaciation would never have occurred. The end of the Ice Age was triggered by the return to preglacial radiation conditions of the Nordic lowland ice. Whilst the rise of the ELA by several hundred metres can only have reduced the steep marginal outlet glaciers, it diminished the area of the lowland ice considerably.  相似文献

Strong effects of tensional tectonics dominate the Lower and Middle Cambrian sequence of Southwestern Sardinia. A thinning of the continental crust and the possible development of a passive margin in the Cambrian is indicated by different stages of evolution of a mainly carbonatic platform: (a) Clastic-carbonatic homoclinal ramp with algal-archaeocyathan mounds (Epiphyton/Renalcis) in the west, clastic shallow marine to tidal sequences in the east. (b) Carbonatic-clastic ramp or rimmed shelf with an ooid shoal complex, prograding towards the west. The back-shoal area contains peloidal mudstones, algal-archaeocyathan biostromes (Girvanella) and increasingly tidal deposits (clastic and carbonatic) towards the east. (c) Isolated platform, aggraded to sea level, rimmed by slope deposits with slumps and breccia-beds in the southeast and northwest. (d) Isolated, flooded platform; barriers towards the open sea partly broke down. (e) Isolated platform with raised rims and deep interior, often with thick breccia-beds in uppermost parts. (f) Break-down of the platform (late Early Cambrian), marked by nodular limestones and limestoneshale intercalations. (g) Terrigenous clastics cover the former platform.
Zusammenfassung Starke Auswirkungen von Dehnungstektonik prägen die unter- und mittelkambrische Abfolge Südwest-Sardiniens. Diese belegen eine Ausdünnung der kontinentalen Kruste, die mit der Entwicklung eines passiven Kontinentalrandes während des Kambriums verbunden sein könnte. Hierfür sprechen die beobachteten verschiedenen Entwicklungsstadien einer Plattform: (a) Siliciklastisch-karbonatische, homoklinale Rampe mit Algen-Archaeocyathen-Mounds (Epiphyton/Renalcis) im Westen, flachmarinen bis gezeitenbeeinflu\ten Bereichen im Osten. (b) Karbonatisch-siliciklastische Rampe oder Schelf mit einem randlichen Ooid-Untiefen-Komplex, der sich gegen Westen vorschob; im geschützten östlichen Bereich treten Peloid-Mudstones, Algen-Archaeocyathen Biostrome (Girvanella) und klastisch-karbonatische Gezeitenbildungen auf. (c) Isolierte Karbonatplattform, die sich bis zum Meeresspiegel hochbaute, im Südosten und Nordwesten des Gebietes von Bekkenbereichen mit Slumping und Breccienbildungen begrenzt. (d) Isolierte, überflutete Karbonatplattform; Barrieren zum offenen Meer brachen teilweise zusammen. (e) Isolierte Karbonatplattform mit erhöhten Rändern und tieferem Inneren; zahlreiche Breccienkörper treten in höchsten Teilen dieser Abfolge auf. (f) Zusammenbruch der Karbonatplattform (höchstes Unterkambrium), angezeigt durch Knollenkalke und Kalkschiefer. (g) Siliciklastika überlagern die Plattform.

Résumé La série stratigraphique du Cambrien inférieur et moyen du sud-ouest de la Sardaigne a été fortement influencée par une tectonique de distension, qui implique un amincissement de la croûte continentale, sans doute lié au développement d'une marge passive au cours du Cambrien. Les arguments à l'appui de ce modèle sont fournis par les stades d'évolution successifs d'une plateforme, essentiellement carbonatée: (a) une rampe homoclinale, détritique-carbonatée, comportant à l'ouest des mounds à algues et archéocyathes (Epiphyton/Renalcis) et à l'est un milieu marin peu profond sous influence tidale; (b) une rampe carbonatéedétritique ou plateforme de haut-fond à ooÏdes qui s'est avancée vers l'ouest. La zone est d'arrière-barre comporte des mudstones à péloÏdes, des biostromes à algues (Girvanella) et archéocyathes et des sédiments carbonatés-détritiques de milieu intertidal; (c) une plateforme carbonatée isolée qui s'est développée jusqu'au niveau de la mer, bordée au sud-est et nord-ouest par des bassins à slumping et brèches; (d) une plateforme carbonatée isolée, inondée, dont les barrières vers la pleine mer se sont en partie détruites; (e) une plateforme carbonatée isolée dont les bords sont élevés et l'intérieur déprimé, recouverte par de nombreux corps bréchiques; (f) destruction de la plateforme carbonatée (partie supérieur de la Cambrien inférieur), indiquée par des calcaires à nodules et des calcschistes; (g) siliciclastes recouvrant la plateforme.

Summary Estimates of mean daily evapotranspiration using the aerodynamic resistance-surface energy balance (ARSEB) model of Monteith were obtained for three periods during 3 September (day of year 246) to 15 November (day 319) 1983 in an alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) field in central Arizona near Coolidge. These estimates were compared with Penman method estimates, within situ soil water balance (SWB) method estimates, and with long-term soil water depletion-based estimates of evapotranspiration for central Arizona. The SWB method estimates were obtained from soil moisture data collected to 1.5 m depth at 60 field sites, and to 1.8 m depth at 16 of the 60 sites. During relatively wet field conditions in September, daily estimates from the ARSEB method were on average about 19% to 23% lower than estimates from the Penman and SWB methods, respectively. However, for these wetter conditions, soil moisture data were only collected to 1.5 m depth. Thus, the SWB method may have overestimated evapotranspiration because drainage below the crop root zone was not measured. During drier conditions later in the season, ARSEB estimates of daily evapotranspiration were on average about 5% greater than Penman estimates. Also, ARSEB estimates were on the average about 24% to 35% greater than SWB method estimates. Agreement was good between ARSEB method estimates and long-term alfalfa evapotranspiration estimates by Erie et al. (1981) for central Arizona.
Zusammenfassung Es werden mit Hilfe des ARSEB (Aerodynamisches Widerstands-Energiebilanz-Modell) von Monteith Schätzwerte der mittleren täglichen Evapotranspiration eines Luzernenfeldes für die Periode zwischen 3. September und 15. November 1983 gewonnen. Die Ergebnisse wurden mit denen der Penman-Methode, der Methode der Bodenwasserbilanz (SWB) und der Abschätzung über die langfristige Reduktion des Bodenwassers in Zentralarizona verglichen. Die SWB-Werte wurden aus Bodenfeuchtedaten in 1,5 m Tiefe von 60 Punkten und 1,8 m Tiefe von 16 Punkten berechnet. Während relativ feuchter Bedingungen im September waren die ARSEB-Schätzwerte durchschnittlich etwa 19 bis 23% niedriger als die der Penman- und SWB-Methode. Für feuchte Verhältnisse wurden allerdings nur Daten aus 1,5 m Tiefe gesammelt. Daher mag die SWB-Methode die Evapotranspiration überschätzt haben, weil der Abfluß unter dem Wurzelbereich nicht gemessen wurde. Unter trockeneren Bedingungen waren die ARSEB-Werte etwa 5% höher als die nach Penman. Gegenüber den SWB-Werten lagen die der ARSEB-Methode um etwa 24 bis 35% höher. Die Übereinstimmung zwischen ARSEB-Werten und den Abschätzungen der Luzernenevapotranspiration nach Erie et al. (1981) für Zentralarizona war gut.

Hazaribagh is a densely populated area of Dhaka city where about 185 leather processing industries have been operating and discharging solid and liquid wastes directly to the low-lying areas, river and natural canals without proper treatment. The area is covered by alluvial deposits of Holocene age and is underlain by Pleistocene Madhupur clay. The Dupi Tila Formation of Mio-Pliocene age underlain by this yellowish gray to brick red clay bed serves as the main water-bearing aquifer of Dhaka city. To assess the environmental degradation as well as the groundwater environment, major anions, cations and heavy metals of water samples, heavy metals and organic carbon content of sediment samples were analyzed in this study. Analyses of tannery effluent detect high concentration of Na+, Mg2+, Cl and SO 4 2− followed by Ca2+, NH 4 + and K+ with remarkable contents of some trace elements, mainly Cr, Fe, Mn, S, Ni and Pb. Higher accumulations of Cr, Al and Fe are observed in topsoil samples with significant amounts of Mn, Zn, Ni and Cu. Concentrations of ions and all the investigated trace elements of sampled groundwater were within the maximum allowable limit for drinking water of the Department of Environment, Bangladesh (DoE), and World Health Organization (WHO). However, excessive concentrations of Cr, Pb, etc., have already been reported in the shallow groundwater (10–20 m) of the area. Due to excessive withdrawal the vulnerability of groundwater contamination in deeper parts cannot be avoided for the future.  相似文献
