The temperature dependences of the crystal structure and superstructure intensities in sodium nitrate, mineral name nitratine, NaNO3, were studied using Rietveld structure refinements based on synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction. Nitratine transforms from $R{\overline{3}} c\;\hbox{to}\;R{\overline{3}} m$ at T c = 552(1) K. A NO3 group occupies, statistically, two positions with equal frequency in the disordered $R{\overline{3}} m$ phase, but with unequal frequency in the partially ordered $R{\overline{3}} c$ phase. One position for the NO3 group is rotated by 60° or 180° with respect to the other. The occupancy of the two orientations in the $R{\overline{3}} c$ phase is obtained from the occupancy factor, x, for the O1 site and gives rise to the order parameter, S = 2x ? 1, where S is 0 at T c and 1 at 0 K. The NO3 groups rotate in a rapid process from about 541 to T c, where the a axis contracts. Using a modified Bragg–Williams model, a good fit was obtained for the normalized intensities (that is, normalized, NI1/2) for the (113) and (211) reflections in $R{\overline{3}} c\hbox {\,NaNO}_{3},$ and indicates a second-order transition. Using the same model, a reasonable fit was obtained for the order parameter, S, and also supports a second-order transition. 相似文献

Dissolved major ions and important heavy metals including total arsenic and iron were measured in groundwater from shallow
(25–33 m) and deep (191–318 m) tube-wells in southeastern Bangladesh. These analyses are intended to help describe geochemical
processes active in the aquifers and the source and release mechanism of arsenic in sediments for the Meghna Floodplain aquifer.
The elevated Cl− and higher proportions of Na+ relative to Ca2+, Mg2+, and K+ in groundwater suggest the influence by a source of Na+ and Cl−. Use of chemical fertilizers may cause higher concentrations of NH4+ and PO43− in shallow well samples. In general, most ions are positively correlated with Cl−, with Na+ showing an especially strong correlation with Cl−, indicating that these ions are derived from the same source of saline waters. The relationship between Cl−/HCO3− ratios and Cl− also shows mixing of fresh groundwater and seawater. Concentrations of dissolved HCO3− reflect the degree of water–rock interaction in groundwater systems and integrated microbial degradation of organic matter.
Mn and Fe-oxyhydroxides are prominent in the clayey subsurface sediment and well known to be strong adsorbents of heavy metals
including arsenic. All five shallow well samples had high arsenic concentration that exceeded WHO recommended limit for drinking
water. Very low concentrations of SO42− and NO3− and high concentrations of dissolved Fe and PO43− and NH4+ ions support the reducing condition of subsurface aquifer. Arsenic concentrations demonstrate negative co-relation with the
concentrations of SO42− and NO3− but correlate weakly with Mo, Fe concentrations and positively with those of P, PO43− and NH4+ ions. 相似文献

Sediment yield is the amount of erosional debris from drainage basin deposited in reservoirs. The economic life of storage reservoir depends upon the estimation of the time it takes for the reservoir to be filled with the deposition of sediments. This research is based on assessing the sediment yield in Rawal Dam catchment by using Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model. Digital Elevation Model (DEM), land use maps, soil maps, and weather data of the study watershed were used as input to SWAT model. Monthly sedimentation data of year 2010 and discharge data from 1998 to 2005 is being used for model calibration and validation, respectively. Whereas simulations are being generated from 1998 to 2011 for both sedimentation and discharge. Modified Universal Soil Loss Equation (MUSLE) was used for the estimation of sediment yield. The Nash and Sutcliffe coefficient of the model was found to be 0.79 which depicts its effectiveness. After the estimation of the sediment yield and discharge by using SWAT model, double mass curve was used to evaluate the sedimentation rate. The rate of sediment transport can be reduced by the construction of check dams. Various sites have also been proposed for check dams construction to prevent the sediments transported into the Rawal Catchment. 相似文献

Gaza central seawater desalination plant is a promising solution to alleviate the problem of water crisis in the Gaza Strip. The plant in the short term, phase (I), will desalinate seawater for potable uses with a capacity of 55 million cubic meters per year, while in the long term, phase (II), the plant capacity will be doubled to 110 million cubic meters per year of freshwater. As a product from the reverse osmosis process, a huge amount of brine with salinity reaches to 75,000 mg/L will be redirected to seawater; nearly 12,200 m3/h of brine will be rejected from phase (I) while in the long term, a brine flow rate of 24,400 m3/h will be disposed from phase (II). In order to minimize the negative impacts of the rejected brine on the marine environment, it is urgent to modeling numerically the impact of the discharged brine through various disposal systems to define the most environmental system. Various scenarios were defined and simulated using CORMIX model to study the efficiencies of onshore surface open channel, offshore submerged single port as well as offshore submerged multiport outfalls taking salinity variations as an indicator. Sensitivity analysis was conducted to identify the most influencing input parameters on the simulation results as well as to evaluate the optimal environmental disposal system which can mitigate the adverse impacts of brine on the marine ecosystem as much as possible in the worst seawater conditions. The simulation results showed that the discharge via surface open channel is not environmentally feasible where the seawater salinity rose by more than 2000 mg/L at RMZ. The single-port scenario can meet the regulations at RMZ but the standard at GMZ was not met, where the rejected brine from phase (I) through single port at 1500 m offshore raises the seawater salinity at GMZ by more than 600 mg/L. The staged multiport outfall, capped by 24 ports, achieves acceptable brine dilution at seawater depth of about 7.5 m, and in the worst ambient conditions in the case of phase (II) in operation, the brine’s excess salinity was 536, 497, and 379 mg/L above the salinity of seawater at RMZ, GMZ, and ROI, respectively. 相似文献

A bidimensional numerical model has been used in order to simulate the contaminant transport in the coastal groundwater area (Atlantic margin of the Rharb basin, Morocco). This groundwater is materialized by means of the salt contamination derived from several factors: evapotranspiration, lithological series formations, marine intrusion, and processes of interaction between water and rocks. In order to reduce the numerical diffusion and limit the numerical dispersion, we use the Superbee flux limiter as a total variation diminishing scheme to discretize the convective operator. This kind of discretization was applied to the coastal groundwater of the Rharb basin (Morocco). The results show that the Superbee flux limiter is efficient at drawing the path of the contaminant front with high accuracy. Consequently, this scheme could constitute an approach in water management and allows one to prevent the risks of pollution and to manage the groundwater resource from a durable development perspective. Ground penetrating radar, electromagnetic terrain conductivity, and electric tomography have proven to be effective tools if they are combined together to investigate archeological sites. We have conducted a geophysical survey at the Akhmim archaeological site, the main objective of our survey is to locate additional buried structures for further excavation. Geophysical data were acquired in the area using the GEM-300 multi-frequency terrain conductivity profiler, the SIR 2000 ground penetrating radar, and the Syscal R2 resistivity meter systems. The results of the integrated interpretation show a number of buried features and a strong linear zone about 1 m wide that coincides with the suspected trend of a buried wall. There appears to be two parallel ridges of strong reflections on either side, indicating two parallel walls extended East-West and a room is identified at the bottom left comer of the site. Moreover, the interpretation results of some selected GPR and dipoledipole resistivity profiles adjacent to the open-air museum suggest the existence of a second statue of Ramses Ⅱ to the right of the previously discovered statue which could still be buried in the sand. 相似文献
