As a model for sensor orientation and 3D geopositioning for high-resolution satellite imagery (HRSI), the affine transformation from object to image space has obvious advantages. Chief among these is that it is a straightforward linear model, comprising only eight parameters, which has been shown to yield sub-pixel geopositioning accuracy when applied to Ikonos stereo imagery. This paper aims to provide further insight into the affine model in order to understand why it performs as well as it does. Initially, the model is compared to counterpart, ‘rigorous’ affine transformation formulations which account for the conversion from a central perspective to affine image. Examination of these rigorous models sheds light on issues such as the effects of terrain and size of area, as well as upon the choice of reference coordinate system and the impact of the adopted scanning mode of the sensor. The results of application of the affine sensor orientation model to four multi-image Ikonos test field configurations are then presented. These illustrate the very high geopositioning accuracy attainable with the affine model, and illustrate that the model is not affected by size of area, but can be influenced to a modest extent by mountainous terrain, the mode of scanning and the choice of object space coordinate system. The Geographical Survey Institute of Japan has recently carried out an evaluation of the metric performance of QuickBird stereo satellite imagery. This paper describes the accuracy assessment of the sensor orientation and geopositioning phases of the study, the aim of which was twofold. First, it was desired to confirm the metric potential of QuickBird imagery for 1:25 000 scale topographic mapping. Second, a determination was to be made of the accuracy attainable from the Basic image product. The techniques of rational functions and affine bundle adjustment were employed, the former with bias compensation. The results obtained both reassert the high precision of the rational functions approach and cast doubt upon the applicability of the 3D affine model for accurate geopositioning from QuickBird imagery. 相似文献

The aim of this paper is to present a method whereby accuracy enhancement of an existing photogrammetric network is achieved through the automatic selection of additional camera stations. The determination of the positions of these 'accuracy fulfilment' camera stations is based upon what has been termed 'visibility uncertainty prediction modelling' of visibility constraints derived from the existing network geometry. Following a review of vision constraints in network design, the concepts of visibility uncertainty prediction and visibility uncertainty spheres are introduced. These provide a mechanism to predict the visibility of current object target points for the new accuracy fulfilment images. This in turn aids in network design improvement. The visibility uncertainty modelling is then illustrated for two close range photogrammetric network configurations, for which the test results demonstrate that the proposed model can reliably predict target visibility with an overall certainty of 75%. 相似文献

The development of still video CCD cameras with digital image storage has made feasible the concept of offline, single sensor vision metrology. This paper reports on practical evaluations of such a system for dimensional inspection of aircraft tooling and for structural monitoring for large scale engineering. A further application of still video technology for low altitude aerial mapping is also reported. In each case a Kodak DCS200 camera has been employed for the photography in order to take advantage of the relatively high sensor resolution and adequate on-board image storage capacity. Aspects of the measurement operations, which yielded object space accuracies to 1:80 000 in the industrial measurement projects, are discussed and the results analysed. 相似文献

A model of cometary activity is developed which integrates the feedback processes involving heat, gas, and dust transport, and dust mantle development. The model includes the effects of latitude, rotation, and spin axis orientation. Results are obtained for various grain size distributions, dust-to-ice ratios, and spin axis orientations. Attention is focused on the development, change of structure and distribution of dust mantles and their mutual interaction with ice surface temperature and gas and dust production. In this model the dust mantle controls the mechanism of gas transport not onlu by its effect on the temperature but, more importantly, by its own dynamic stability. Results suggest that an initially homogeneous short-period comet with a “cosmic” dust-to-water ice ratio, typical orbit, rotation rate, and grain size distribution would develop at most only a thin (<1 mm) cyclic mantle at all points on the nucleus. Such a fully developed temporary mantle would exist throughout the diurnal cycle only beyond ~4AU. Thus, cyclic behavior would be expected for such an idealized comet, at least for most of its lifetime. Long-term irreversible mantle development on comets with typical rotation rates was not found except regionally on Encke and also on objects with perihelia ?1.5 AU. Even in these cases, free silicate exists, after a few cycles, only as relatively rare large grains and agglomerates with radii ~1 cm scattered over exposed ice. Full mantle development would require hundreds to thousands of cycles. In the case of an initially homogeneous comet Encke, this slow incipient mantle development is shown to be the direct result of its peculiar axial orientation. High obliquity appears required for long-term mantle development for typical rotation rates and perihelia ?1.5 AU. Heat conduction into the nucleus for an incompletely mantled or bald comet has been found to be very important in maintaining relatively higher ice surface temperatures, and hence fluxes, during those portions of the diurnal and orbital cycles which would otherwise be cooler. It is also shown to be at least one cause of post perihelion brightness asymmetries, especially in lower obliquity comets. Maximum heliocentric distances at which 1-μm dust, sand, pebbles, cobbles, and boulders can be permanently ejected from the subsolar point by H2O (CO2) are (in AU): 6.9 (16.8), 5.2 (11.5), 1.8 (3.0), 0.21 (0.34) and 0.07 (0.11), respectively. A detailed anatomy of temperature, gas and dust fluxes vs latitude and longitude for a homogeneous rotating comet with fixed axis is given for comparison with future observations. Most H2O flux histories deduced from brightness data are found to be in reasonable agreement with the model, allowing for uncertainty in radius and albedo. A clear exception is Encke. It is shown that the large discrepancy between Encke's observed and model predicted fluxes, based on radar cross section, can be used to evaluate the extent of exposed ice (<10%). The model is then used to place an active area so as to explain a reported sharp drop in flux on approach to the Sun at 0.78 AU. An active area or areas, <10% of the comet's surface, centered near 65°N latitude appears indicated. Although cyclic mantles are generally indicated for the set of parameters we used, our results show that a global mantle only 1 to 3 cm thick (depending on the orbit) consisting of a full range of grain sizes can cause irresversible evolution to a noncometary body. We investigated the long-term evolution of such a postulated initially thinly mantled cometary object. It was found that after the first few passes and until the end of its dynamic lifetime the object averaged <3 × 10?12 g cm?1 sec?1 H2O flux. Therefore, if cometary objects evolve into Apollo asteroids, ice should always be accessible within 10 m of the surface despite numerous close perihelion passages. The possible impact of factors not included in the model, such as initial inhomogeneities, coma scattering of radiation, and global redistribution of ejected silicate around the nucleus, are discussed. 相似文献

This paper builds on existing theory and proposes a framework to identify vulnerability to climate change in food systems by examining historic cases where common environmental problems caused famine. Cases presented are (1) Ireland’s Potato Famine, (2) El Niño induced famines during the Colonial period, and (3) Ethiopia between 1965 and 1997. Three factors stand out as common in each. Prior to each famine: (1) there were very few ways that people could obtain a living in the worst affected regions; (2) livelihoods in famine stricken communities came to depend on highly specialized agro-ecosystems that were sensitive to environmental change; (3) institutions failed to provide adequate safety nets to protect livelihoods from failure. This analysis suggests that vulnerability to climate change in food systems can be assessed by looking at agro-ecosystems, livelihoods and institutions. Local conditions, however, mean that ways of measuring these three factors will vary from place to place. As a result, direct comparisons are difficult. By conceptualizing these three variables as the axes of a three dimensional “vulnerability” space, it is possible to compare regions and look at trends over time by studying the paths through this “space” as traced by changes at the agro-ecosystem, livelihood, and institutional scale. 相似文献

The Cariewerloo Basin formed in the Mesoproterozoic following assembly of the Gawler Craton, South Australia, and was filled by arenaceous redbeds of the Pandurra Formation. While previous regional-scale work reveals a basin with similar size and sedimentary fill to the Proterozoic Athabasca and Kombolgie basins that host unconformity-related uranium deposits, few details of the Cariewerloo Basin are known. In this study, stratigraphy, petrography, lithogeochemistry, stable isotope geochemistry and 40Ar/39Ar geochronology are integrated to clarify the depositional history of the Pandurra Formation, and to assess fluid events in the basin that could be linked to the formation of uranium deposits. In the study area, the Pandurra Formation was deposited in two eastward-thickening packages that terminate at faulted basement uplifts, interpreted as half-grabens that formed in a continental rift system as the eastern Gawler Craton underwent extension. Deposition occurred between 1575 Ma (latest Hiltaba Suite age) and ca 1490 Ma, the 40Ar/39Ar age of diagenetic illite in the basal Pandurra. Diagenesis involving fluids having δ18O and δ2H values between –2.1 and 3.6‰, and between –66 and –8‰, respectively, occurred at around 150°C. Protracted diagenesis preferentially occurred in the upper Pandurra Formation based on petrography and Pearce Element Ratios that show complete replacement of detrital lithic and feldspathic grains by diagenetic phyllosilicates, and younger 40Ar/39Ar ages between ca 1330 and 1200 Ma that record fluid events later into basin history. Conversely, the basal Pandurra Formation shows better preservation of detrital grains, and older 40Ar/39Ar ages around 1450 Ma that suggest these strata became closed to fluid flow earlier in basin history. Although, based on O-isotope ratios, fluid–rock interaction did not occur in the Cariewerloo Basin to the same extent as that in the Athabasca or Kombolgie basins, it is possible that a uranium deposit formed where the upper Pandurra Formation was in contact with metasedimentary basement units outside the present basin margins. 相似文献

We investigate the feasibility of deep-space navigation using the highly stable periodic signals from X-ray pulsars in combination with dedicated instrumentation on the spacecraft: a technique often referred to as ‘XNAV’. The results presented are based on the outputs from a study undertaken for the European Space Agency. The potential advantages of this technique include increased spacecraft autonomy and lower mission operating costs. Estimations of navigation uncertainties have been obtained using simulations of different pulsar combinations and navigation strategies. We find that the pulsar PSR B1937?+?21 has potential to allow spacecraft positioning uncertainties of ~2 and ~5 km in the direction of the pulsar after observation times of 10 and 1 h respectively, for ranges up to 30 AU. This could be achieved autonomously on the spacecraft using a focussing X-ray instrument of effective area ~50 cm2 together with a high performance atomic clock. The Mercury Imaging X-ray Spectrometer (MIXS) instrument, due to be launched on the ESA/JAXA BepiColombo mission to Mercury in 2018, is an example of an instrument that may be further developed as a practical telescope for XNAV. For a manned mission to Mars, where an XNAV system could provide valuable redundancy, observations of the three pulsars PSR B1937?+?21, B1821-24 and J0437-4715 would enable a three-dimensional positioning uncertainty of ~30 km for up to 3 months without the need to contact Earth-based systems. A lower uncertainty may be achieved, for example, by use of extended observations or, if feasible, by use of a larger instrument. X-ray instrumentation suitable for use in an operational XNAV subsystem must be designed to require only modest resources, especially in terms of size, mass and power. A system with a focussing optic is required in order to reduce the sky and particle background against which the source must be measured. We examine possible options for future developments in terms of simpler, lower-cost Kirkpatrick-Baez optics. We also discuss the principal design and development challenges that must be addressed in order to realise an operational XNAV system. 相似文献
