For any given volcanic field the compositions of primary melts provide important constraints on models of magmatic processes and volcanic eruptions. In this paper, based on petrography, olivine and bulk rock compositions, two tholeiitic picrites (samples C122 and C123) from Haleakala Volcano, east Maui are evaluated as possible primary melts. Sample C122 (bulk rock MgO = 16.6%) has a high apparent Mg-Fe exchange coefficient, KD, between olivine phenocrysts and bulk rock (0.6). However, major-elements and Ni mass-balance calculations show that the olivines in C122 are in equilibrium with the residual melt (matrix) after closed-system equilibrium fractionation of 25 wt.% olivine. Therefore, the Mg/Fe ratio, Ca content, and Ni content of C122 are consistent with the hypothesis that the bulk composition of C122 is close to a primary melt formed by partial melting of a mantle containing olivine with composition around Fo89 to Fo91. The uniform composition and small size (mostly 0.2–0.3 mm) of the olivine, and the glass patches in the matrix suggest fast ascent, and rapid cooling at shallow depth for C122. On the contrary, sample C123, which has an apparent KD (between the most mafic olivine megacrysts and the bulk rock) close to the equilibrium value (0.27), the multiple planar subgrain boundaries in most of the olivine crystals indicate that it may not be a primary melt unless the deformed olivines are generated at magmatic condition as phenocrysts. If the deformed subgrain boundary texture in olivine could indeed be generated at magmatic condition, then the wide compositional range of olivine crystals in C123 (Fo74 to Fo91) suggests multi-stage crystallization over a wide range of cooling temperatures.The compositions of the two picrites, and a differentiated basalt which does not contain xenocrysts suggest that the Haleakala tholeiites are derived from primary melts with at least 16–17 wt.% MgO. Lavas with such high MgO content are rare in Haleakala and other Hawaiian volcanoes; therefore, most Hawaiian tholeiites must have undergone extensive fractionation histories.  相似文献

This study proposes an analytical method that determines the center manifold and identifies the reduced system on the center manifold. The proposed method expresses the center manifold through general equations containing only state variables, and not functions with respect to time. This is the so-called geometric structure of the center manifold. The location of periodic or quasi-periodic orbits is identified after the geometric structure of the center manifold is determined. The reduced system on the center manifold is described using ordinary differential equations, so that periodic or quasi-periodic orbits can be computed by numerically integrating the reduced system. The results indicate that the analytical method proposed in this study has higher precision compared with the Lindstedt-Poincaré method of the same order.  相似文献

In the southwest of China, one of the greatest threats to local ecosystem is the area expansion of an invasive species, i.e., Eupatorium adenophorum Spreng (EAS). In this study, the remote-sensing technology was used to detect and map the spatial distribution of EAS in Guizhou Province, China. A series of vegetation indices, including normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), simple ratio index (SRI) and atmospherically resistant vegetation index (ARVI), were used to identify EAS from HJ-A Chninese satellite data. According to the analysis results of fieldworks from March 21 to 22, 2009, it was found that the vegetation index of {1.9589 ≤ SRI ≤ 4.1095}∩{0.2359 ≤ ARVI ≤ 0.5193} was the optimal remote-sensing parameter for identifying EAS from HJ-A data. According to the spatial distribution of EAS estimated from HJ-A data, it was found that EAS was rather more in southwest of Guizhou Province than in northeast. EAS became sparse from southwest to northeast gradually, and the central Guizhou Province was the ecological corridor linking EAS in southwest to that in northeast. By comparison with validated data collected by the government of Guizhou Province, it was found that the uncertainty of remote-sensing method was 18.52%, 29.31%, 8.77% and 9.46% in grassland, forest, farmland and others respectively, and the mean uncertainty was 13.29%. Owing to the lower height of EAS than many plants in forest, the uncertainty of EAS was the greatest in forest than that in grassland, farmland and so on.  相似文献

Biological soil crusts (BSCs) are ubiquitous communities of diminutive organisms such as cyanobacteria, green algae, lichens, mosses and others associated closely with particles of surface soil, forming a cohesive thin horizontal layer. The ecological roles of BSCs affecting soil nutrient cycling, stability and hydrological processes, influencing the germination and establishment of vascular plants, and serving as habitats for numerous arthropods and microorganism have been well documented. We tested the hypothesis that micro‐geomorphological features determine the spatial distribution of BSCs by reallocating related abiotic resources at small‐ and medium‐scales in the Tengger Desert. Our results showed that higher soil pH and higher total potassium content in topsoil positively correlated with the colonization of cyanobacteria and algae in the earliest successional stages of BSCs, while increasing dust deposition onto the topsoil enhanced the development of lichen and mosses in the later stages of BSCs. Increasing soil moisture raised the proportion of mosses and lichen in BSCs, this will possibly change the ecological functions of BSCs, such as nitrogen‐fixation by cyanobacteria, due to the conversion from a complex to relative simple type of BSC. Micro‐geomorphology has created various habitats at a small‐scale affecting colonization and development of cryptogams. The well-developed, late Cenozoic Nihewan Beds in northern China are amongst the most famous and well-preserved Quaternary strata in East Asia. The Nihewan Basin is also well-known for its mammalian fossils and stone artifacts, which document early human settlements in high northern latitudes (around 40°N). It is a key geological place to study palaeoenvironments and ancient human activities due to the excellent age-control of the formation by palaeomagnetism. In the present paper, the sediments of two Paleolithic sites were dated using the ESR signals of the titanium center in quartz. In order to check the reliability of our analytical procedures, a reference sample collected near the Brunhes/Matuyama (B/M) boundary at the Donggutuo site was firstly analyzed, yielding an age of 750 ± 88 ka. Then, three samples collected from the Dongpo site were analyzed by the same procedures. Our ESR results indicate that the age of the Dongpo cultural layer ranges between 304 ± 12 ka and 333 ± 23 ka, with an average of approximately 321 ± 15 ka.  相似文献

The influence of the gravitational radiation damping on the time of periastron passage of a binary system is examined. It turns out that the gravitational radiation damping yields secular, periodic and mixed periodic variation of the time of periastron passage. As a consequence, the crossing of the periastron occurs earlier (advance) at each revolution. A numerical estimation of such an effect for eight binary stars is given. Despite the significant role of precipitation in the hydrological cycle, few studies have been conducted to evaluate the impacts of the temporal resolution of rainfall inputs on the performance of SWAT (soil and water assessment tool) models in large-sized river basins. In this study, both daily and hourly rainfall observations at 28 rainfall stations were used as inputs to SWAT for daily streamflow simulation in the Upper Huai River Basin. Study results have demonstrated that the SWAT model with hourly rainfall inputs performed better than the model with daily rainfall inputs in daily streamflow simulation, primarily due to its better capability of simulating peak flows during the flood season. The sub-daily SWAT model estimated that 58 % of streamflow was contributed by baseflow compared to 34 % estimated by the daily model. Using the future daily and 3-h precipitation projections under the RCP (Representative Concentration Pathways) 4.5 scenario as inputs, the sub-daily SWAT model predicted a larger amount of monthly maximum daily flow during the wet years than the daily model. The differences between the daily and sub-daily SWAT model simulation results indicated that temporal rainfall resolution could have much impact on the simulation of hydrological process, streamflow, and consequently pollutant transport by SWAT models. There is an imperative need for more studies to examine the effects of temporal rainfall resolution on the simulation of hydrological and water pollutant transport processes by SWAT in river basins of different environmental conditions.  相似文献

The Lanhualing tungsten-molybdenum deposit is a skarn-type deposit located in Ningguo county, Anhui province. This deposit is mainly hosted in the Yinzhubu Formation and the Yanwashan Formation of Ordovician, and genetically related to the Lanhualing granite. The Lanhualing granite belongs to high-K calc-alkaline series with high alkali (Na2O+K2O=4.00%-7.03%), SiO2 (67.87%-74.92%) and MgO (0.62%-1.23%) contents. The granitic rocks show right-dipping chondrite normalized REE patterns with weak δEu anomalies. The granitic rocks are relatively enriched in large ion lithophile elements (LILE) and depleted in high field strength elements (HFSE). The ore-bearing granite was dated at 148.17±0.94 Ma by LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb method. The late Yanshanian is the main tungsten mineralization epoch in the South Anhui-north Jiangxi area; and indeed, the Dongyuan, Zhuxi, Yangchuling, Dahutang and other large and super-large tungsten deposits were formed in this period.
