Tropospheric ozone (O3) is an important atmospheric pollutant and climate forcer. The Mediterranean basin is a hot-spot region in terms of short-term O3 distribution, with frequent episodes of high tropospheric O3, especially during summer. To improve the characterisation of summer O3 variability in the Mediterranean area, during the period 6–27 August 2009 an experimental campaign was conducted at Campo Imperatore, Mt Portella (CMP), a high mountain site (2,388 m a.s.l.) located in the central Italian Apennines. As deduced from analysis of atmospheric circulation, the measurement site was significantly affected by air masses originating over the Mediterranean basin, which affected the measurement site for 32 % of the time. Analysis of average values and diurnal and day-to-day variability revealed that CMP O3 observations (average value 60.0 ± 5.1 ppbv) were comparable with measurements at other European mountain stations, indicating a prevalent effect of meteorological conditions and atmospheric transport on the synoptic scale. In fact, only a small “reverse” diurnal variation typically characterises diurnal O3 variability because of local thermal wind circulation, which sporadically favours transport of air masses rich in O3 from the foothill regions. Statistical analysis of five-day back-trajectory ensembles indicates that synoptic-scale air-mass transport from the Mediterranean Sea usually results in decreasing O3 concentrations at CMP, whereas the highest hourly O3 values are mostly associated with air masses from central continental Europe, eastern Europe, and northern Italy. High O3 concentrations are also related to downward air-mass transport from higher altitudes. Comparison of in-situ O3 variability with tropospheric O3 satellite-based measurements reveals similar features of the two data sets. Together with the results from back-trajectory analysis, this indicates that CMP measurements might usefully improve characterisation of broad-scale O3 variability over the central Mediterranean basin.  相似文献

Abstract

Recent investigations demonstrated that inter‐year NOAA‐AVHRR NDVI variations at the middle of the rainy season can provide information on annual crop yields in Sahelian countries. This line of research is presently extended to the consideration of multitemporal NDVI data for several years (1986-1991) pre‐processed by a proven methodology. The investigation was conducted using NDVI and crop yield data from the sahelian sub‐districts of Niger. The results confirm that geographically standardized NDVI data are efficient for crop yield forecasting, but notable differences exist in this prediction capability depending on the beginning of the season. Late beginnings of the growing (rainy) season (after the end of June) allow optimum forecasting only after mid‐August, while early beginnings lead to anticipate the forecasting capability but also to decrease its accuracy. The importance of these findings in the context of an early warning system is finally discussed.  相似文献

This paper gives a new insight into the linear dynamic behavior of one-storey eccentric systems, with particular attention devoted to provide a comprehensive physically-based formulation of the maximum corner displacement magnification, which involves three contributions (translational response, torsional response and their combination). It is shown that the largest magnifications, which mainly occur for the class of torsionally-flexible systems, are due to the translational contribution which is caused by the shift of the fundamental period of the eccentric system with respect to that of the equivalent not-eccentric system. A simplified method for the estimation of the maximum corner displacement under seismic excitation, based on the physical properties of the eccentric system, is finally proposed.  相似文献

This paper presents a modelling approach for the spatial allocation of second-generation feedstock (lignocellulosic crops) under a reference policy scenario in European Union of 28 Member State (EU-28). The land-use modelling platform (LUMP) was used in order to simulate the land-use changes from 2010 to 2050. Within the LUMP, the land demand for these lignocellulosic energy crops was derived from the Common Agricultural Policy Regionalised Impact analysis model. Suitability maps were generated for two main energy crop groups: herbaceous and woody lignocellulosic crops, using multicriteria analysis techniques. Biophysical factors (climate, soil properties and topographical aspects), natural and artificial constraints and location-specific land categories were defined as relevant components within the platform. A sensitivity analysis determined the most influential factors to be temperature, precipitation, length of growing period and number of frost-free days. The results of the modelling exercise in the LUMP reflect the significant renewable energy contribution from energy crops in EU-28, which was estimated to be between 2.3 EJ/year (in 2020) and 6.3 EJ/year (in 2050), accounting for 2.3% and 9.6% of total energy consumption in the EU-28. The results of the allocation were aggregated at regional level to analyse trends. Regions with considerably high demand were identified in Germany, the United Kingdom and Poland.  相似文献

This article documents the clastic nature of sulphate evaporite beds in the Tithonium Chasma located in the Valles Marineris region of Mars. These beds form a stratified succession characterised by very thick interbedded channel-fill breccia bodies. We infer that the bouldery channel-fills were deposited by voluminous mass-flow processes occurring in a relatively deep subaqueous environment. The redeposition of the coarse-grained evaporite would have responded to phases of high denudation rates in rapidly uplifting hinterlands. Tectonic activity also caused the diapiric uprise and exhumation of evaporite diapirs within the Valles Marineris chasmata, where the apparently young and well development karstic landforms probably formed during the late Amazonian age. These new data strongly suggest the deposition of both primary and resedimented evaporites in a marginal basin area, which effectively restricted ocean access through the proposed “proto-Valles Marineris Strait”. The associated ocean may be the “Ocean Borealis” of Late Noachian-Early Hesperian age.  相似文献

We investigate the problem of balancing model complexity and input data requirements in snow hydrology. For this purpose, we analyze the performance of two models of different complexity in estimating variables of interest in snow hydrology applications. These are snow depth, bulk snow density, snow water equivalent and snowmelt run‐off. We quantify the differences between data and model prediction using 18 years of measurements from an experimental site in the French Alps (Col de Porte, 1325 m AMSL). The models involved in this comparison are a one‐layer temperature‐index model (HyS) and a multilayer model (Crocus). Results show that the expected loss in performance in the one‐layer temperature‐index model with respect to the multilayer model is low when considering snow depth, snow water equivalent and bulk snow density. As for run‐off, the comparison returns less clear indications for identification of a balance. In particular, differences between the models' prediction and data with an hourly resolution are higher when considering the Crocus model than the HyS model. However, Crocus is better at reproducing sub‐daily cycles in this variable. In terms of daily run‐off, the multilayer physically based model seems to be a better choice, while results in terms of cumulative run‐off are comparable. The better reproduction of daily and sub‐daily variability of run‐off suggests that use of the multilayer model may be preferable for this purpose. In this article, we use a transfer function‐noise (TFN) modelling strategy with single output and multiple/single inputs to study the relationships among a large unconfined aquifer in the upper Venetian plain (Northeast Italy), its recharge components (rainfalls and losing river) and a multi‐layered confined system located in the middle Venetian plain. Model identification from the data raises a range of difficulties when seeking models with consistent physical behaviour, but no information related to the transfer function order and the lags with no zero weights is available. Therefore we use an automatic identification procedure for TFN models. The obtained results suggest that the rainfall component is more important than the river discharge in the unconfined aquifer, and the behaviours of the deep‐confined aquifers are synchronous with that observed in the Badoere area. We report on a novel approach for the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) modelling of the neutral atmospheric boundary layer (ABL), using the standard k-ek-{\varepsilon} turbulence model. A new inlet condition for turbulent kinetic energy is analytically derived from the solution of the k-ek-{\varepsilon} model transport equations, resulting in a consistent set of fully developed inlet conditions for the neutral ABL. A modification of the standard k-ek-{\varepsilon} model is also employed to ensure consistency between the inlet conditions and the turbulence model. In particular, the turbulence model constant C μ is generalized as a location-dependent parameter, and a source term is introduced in the transport equation for the turbulent dissipation rate. The application of the proposed methodology to cases involving obstacles in the flow is made possible through the implementation of an algorithm, which automatically switches the turbulence model formulation when going from the region where the ABL is undisturbed to the region directly affected by the building. Finally, the model is completed with a slightly modified version of the Richards and Hoxey rough-wall boundary condition. The methodology is implemented and tested in the commercial code Ansys Fluent 12.1. Results are presented for a neutral boundary layer over flat terrain and for the flow around a single building immersed in an ABL.  相似文献

The aggregated mobile phone network (AMPN) (i.e. the calling time or numbers are aggregated at every vertex), which records the call volume between different places over time, has been studied extensively to reveal the mobility patterns of residents, etc. Nevertheless, most previous works were implemented based on the non‐directionality of the network model. This simplification may overlook some important characteristics of AMPN. To explore the AMPN as a directional network model, we introduce the concept of directional heterogeneity in the study of AMPN data. The heterogeneity is twofold: (1) the imbalance of vertex (difference between outgoing and incoming calls of the vertex); and (2) the reciprocity of each edge (difference between the directed weights of the same edge). Taking the data of Singapore as an example, we systematically analyze the directional heterogeneity of AMPN. Our findings include three aspects. First, the AMPN shows as more unbalanced in the night‐time than in the daytime, and its imbalance decreases as vertex granularity increases. Second, the directional heterogeneity varied with locations. Specifically, the residential area is dominated by deficits and others by surpluses. Third, the trajectories of incoming and outgoing calls follow a similar geographical pattern (i.e. southeast‐north‐south‐north‐southeast), indicating the calling behavior and routine mobility of users over time and space.  相似文献

The new mineral parascandolaite, isotypic to cubic perovskites, space group Pm \(\overline{3}\) m (no. 221) is the natural analog of the synthetic fluoride KMgF3 and is related to neighborite, NaMgF3. It was found as a volcanic sublimate at Vesuvius volcano on 1944 eruption lava scoria, associated with opal, cerussite, mimetite, phoenicochroite and coulsellite. It occurs as transparent colorless to white cubic crystals up to 0.5 mm in length with vitreous luster. The density measured by flotation in a diiodomethane–toluene mixture is 3.11(1) g/cm3; that calculated from the empirical formula and single-crystal X-ray data is 3.123 g/cm3. The mineral is isotropic with n = 1.395(5) (580 nm). The six strongest reflections in the X-ray powder diffraction pattern are: [d obs in Å(I)(h k l)] 2.001(100)(2 0 0), 2.831(83)(1 1 0), 2.311(78)(1 1 1), 1.415(56)(2 2 0), 1.633(35)(2 1 1) and 1.206(22)(3 1 1). The unit-cell parameter is a = 4.0032(9) Å. The structure was refined to a final R(F) = 0.0149 for 35 independent observed reflections [I > 2σ(I)]. The mineral is named after the Italian mineralogist Antonio Parascandola (1902–1977).  相似文献
