The purpose of this work is to study empirically the patterns of size distribution of thermokarst lakes within lacustrine thermokarst plains. Investigations were performed at 16 sites with various geomorphological, geocryological, and physical geographical conditions (Kolyma Lowland, Western Siberia, Lena River valley, Alaska). The accordance of the distribution area with the lognormal and exponential laws, and the accordance of the average diameter distribution with the normal law have been tested; the tested laws of distribution resulted from previous investigations. The results have shown that the lognormal law of distribution of thermokarst lake areas is valid for the vast majority of cases, and the other types of distribution are inconsistent with empirical data. This evidence favors the development pattern for lacustrine thermokarst plains, when thermokarst processes started simultaneously and the rate of lake growth was proportional to the density of heat loss through the side surface. 相似文献

A new approach to assessing the risk of the impact of the thermokarst process on engineering constructions is considered; the approach is based on satellite observation data and methods of the mathematical morphology of landscape. The equations for risk assessment are derived for linear and areal constructions for processes with the Poisson distribution of free-form thermokarst sites. Testing areas with thermokarst lakes have been digitized and theoretical assumptions and empirical data are examined for agreement between them. 相似文献

An approach, based on methods of mathematical landscape morphology, is proposed for risk assessment of the damage to engineering structures caused by geological processes. Model assumptions for models for territories with developed thermokarst, subsidence, and karst processes are presented and substantiated by experimental data for territories with development of thermorakst processes. In this work, areas with thermokarst lakes were digitized and the agreement between theoretical estimates of risk and experimental data was checked.
