An attempt is made to develop a phenomenological interpretation of stellar chromospheres. The following problems are examined: observed emission powers of magnesium chromospheres on stars based on the ultraviolet doublet, 2800 Mgii, observations; dependence of chromosphere emission on spectral and luminosity classes; stellar chromospheres as an accidental event; chromospheres of stars-components of binary systems; stars with the chromospheres of solar type (S) and nonsolar (NS) type; distribution of stars by means of the type of their chromosphere on luminosity class; stars with superpower magnesium emission; emission measures for both the magnesium and calcium chromospheres; interrelation between chromosphere, transition zone and corona; chromospheric activity and rotation of stars; possibility of the existence of chromospheres on hot stars; phenomenological picture of stellar chromospheres; stars without the line 2800 Mgii, in emission or in absorption; syndrome of red giant HD 4174. At the end, the problem of heating of stellar chromospheres is discussed.  相似文献

In the preceding paper by Vengeret al. (1984) the results of observations of neutral gas in the vicinity of some galacticHii regions were considered; and it was demonstrated that 17 of the regions observed are surrounded by expandingHi envelopes. This paper describes a model of interaction between theHii regions and the surrounding interstellar medium constructed on the basis of the said results. It is assumed that the main dynamic factor in the envelope formation mechanism is the total stellar wind from the stars which ionze theHii regions. The employment of the observations of the line at =21 cm, of the radio continuum and IR dust continuum made it possible to determine the differential mass spectra of the stars exciting theHii zones and calculate some characteristics of the stellar population. The mass spectrum index of the objects considered turned out to be much higher than that for the mass spectra of background stars and scattered clusters of stars.  相似文献

The plasma-laser star model for quasars, which is based on the hypotheses that there is no red shift in the spectra of quasars and that the strength of the emission lines is due to laser action, is further developed. Continuity is shown to exist between the spectra of Ovi sequence planetary nuclei, Sanduleak stars, and 10 quasars. The Ovi 3811, 3834 and Heii 4686 emission lines in the spectra of these 10 quasars are identified. Candidate identifications for other quasar lines are also suggested. Making use of the similarity between the spectra of Ovi sequence planetary nuclei and those of the 10 quasars, absolute magnitudes, temperatures, and masses of these quasars are estimated. The distribution of quasars in galactic coordinates is also discussed. Three predictions are made.  相似文献

A large ring, 50 pc diameter, of H+[Nii] emission in the LMC has been investigated using several instruments. It is suggested that stellar winds from O and B stars could play a vital role in the formation of the structures revealed.  相似文献

The IR Caii triplet at 8498, 8542, 8662 Å, relatively easy to observe and measure and free from atmospheric absorption bands, is a powerful tool for the study of the stellar populations in galaxies, provided that we can understand its behaviour with the stellar parameters: effective temperature, surface gravity and metal content. We present here the results of CCD spectroscopic observations for a sample of 86 stars covering a wide range in luminosity, effective temperature and metallicity (from subdwarfs to supergiants and –2.70[F3/H]0.43), in order to establish the dependence of the IR Caii triplet on stellar atmosphere parameters. We do not confirm previous results giving the main dependence on surface gravity. We find instead a bi-parametric dependence on metallicity and surface gravity, and no dependence on effective temperature.  相似文献

An optical survey of NGC 604, the brightestHII complex in M33, has lead to the discovery of a single supernova remnant, in agreement with the predominantly thermal radio spectrum of the region. For the same NGC 604, we have derived from the H flux and the evolutionary tracks of the stars, the population and the birth-rates of Main Sequence, high-mass stars. The computation is in agreement with the observations of the upper part of the stellar luminosity function. From the stellar population one predicts in the region a number of remnants significantly larger than 1. To explain this discrepancy, it is suggested the presence in NGC 604 of at least one overluminous, hot star (M B9), which contributes to a large fraction of the ionizations.On leave from the Asiago Observatory.On leave from Istituto di Fisica Generale, Università di Torino.  相似文献

The spiral structure of the inner parts of the Galaxy is studied using 21 cm line data and stellar data. To study the neutral hydrogen distribution in the galactic layer a parameter =(dV/dr) proportional to the mean densities is calculated using a first approximation for the velocity gradients due to differential rotation.The obtained distribution (R, Z) shows spiral features completely consistent with the early star distribution and with the Hii regions. The corrugation effect of the galactic layer is observed in all the studied zones in neutral hydrogen and in the distribution of the OB stars in the Carina zone.The pattern obtained indicates four spiral arms for the inner parts of the Galaxy, three of which are identified also in the stellar data (arms -I, -II, and -III) and the more distant -IV in Hii regions.The local arm according to the stellar data of Kilkennyet al. forms a feature completely similar to the arms -I and -II and there are no indications that this arm is a special material branch between two main spiral arms as has been supposed in order to conciliate the neutral hydrogen pattern with the stellar distribution.The pitch angles for the spiral arms are approximately 13°–17°.The observed wave form distribution of the hydrogen cloud layer is completely consistent with the theoretical predictions of Nelson (1976) but there are no indications of such an effect in the intercloud hydrogen. The corrugated cloud layer has a width of 100 pc, a wave amplitude of 70 pc, and a wavelength which grows with the galactic center distance (approx. 2 kpc in the zones next to the galactic nucleus and 2.6–3.0 kpc in the zones next to the Sun). To each wavelength correspond two spiral arms. The spiral features in our Galaxy show characteristics quite similar to the features in the Andromeda nebula, not only in the component materials (neutral hydrogen, Hii regions and possibly also dust and stars) but also in their kinematics.  相似文献

The catalog of the classical WR stars which have the emission doublet Ovi 3811, 3834 in their optical spectra (the catalog of the WR-Ovi stars) and the results of the spectroscopic investigations of the WR-Ovi stars HD 16523, HD 17638, and HD 192103 are presented. Rapid spectral variability of the emission doublet Ovi 3811, 3834 in the spectra of WR-Ovi stars HD 16523, HD 17638, and of the emission band 3680-3780 Å in the spectra of the WR-Ovi star HD 16523 is observed. It is shown that spectral sub-types of the stars HD 16523 and HD 17638 as estimated from different criteria are uncertain. We argue that the WR-Ovi stars HD 16523 and HD 17638, the optical spectra of which display emission doublet Ovi 3811, 3834, may be considered as WO5 stars. The sub-type WO5 is proposed for the first time. Classification criteria of the WO5 sub-type are represented. The possible contribution of the ions Heii to the emission at 3811 Å and 3834 Å is investigated. Thez-distributions of WR-Ovi stars and WR stars with the probable relativistic companions are found to be similar.  相似文献

Observations of rotational modulation of continuum brightness and photospheric and chromospheric spectral-line profiles of late-type stars indicate the presence of very inhomogeneous surface temperature distributions. We present three stellar examples (VY Ari, HR 7275, HU Vir) where time-series photometry is used to trace the evolution of spotted regions. Simultaneous spectroscopy and Doppler imaging for one of the three stars (HU Virgo, Fig. 1) makes it possible to compute the temperature distribution of the photosphere and the relative intensity distribution of parts of the chromosphere (from CaII K and H line profiles). The combination of time-series spot modeling and Doppler imaging enabled us to determine thesign and amount of differential surface rotation on HU Vir. We found a big, cool polar spot (see figure below) and a differential (surface) rotation law where higher-latitude regions rotate faster than lower-latitude regions (opposite to what we see on the Sun). Currently, this ensemble of techniques - time-series photometry and photospheric and chromospheric Doppler imaging - is only applicable to stars overactive by approximately a factor of 100 as compared to the active Sun, e.g. the evolved components in RS CVn-type binaries and some rapidly-rotating, single, pre-main sequence stars or giant stars. Stellar rotation is a fundamental parameter for (magnetic) activity. Starspots, or any other surface inhomogeneities, allow one to derive very precise stellar rotation rates and, if coupled with seismological observations of solar-type stars, could provide information on the internal angular momentum distribution in overactive late-type stars.To be published in Astronomy & Astrophysics.  相似文献

Disk-integrated solar chromospheric Caii K-line (3933.68 ) fluxes have been measured almost daily at Sacramento Peak Observatory since 1977. Using observing windows selected to mimic seasonal windows for chromospheric measurements of lower Main-Sequence stars such as those observed by Mount Wilson Observatory's HK Project, we have measured the solar rotation from the modulation of the Caii K-line flux. We track the change of rotation period from the decline of cycle 21 through the maximum of cycle 22. This variation in rotation period is shown to behave as expected from the migration of active regions in latitude according to Maunder's butterfly diagram, including an abrupt change in rotation period at the transition from cycle 21 to cycle 22. These results indicate the successful detection of solar surface differential rotation from disk-integrated observations. We argue that the success of our study compared to previous investigations of the solar surface differential rotation from disk-integrated fluxes lies primarily with the choice of the length of the time-series window. Our selection of 200 days is shorter than in previous studies whose windows are typically on the order of one year. The 200-day window is long enough to permit an accurate determination of the rotation period, yet short enough to avoid complications arising from active region evolution. Thus, measurements of the variation of rotation period in lower Main-Sequence stars, especially those that appear to be correlated with long-term changes in chromospheric activity (i.e., cycles), are probably evidence for stellar surface differential rotation.  相似文献

41 galactic clusters containing stars with spectral types from O5 to B9 have been observed at frequencies of 1.4 GHz and 2.7 GHz. Only clusters with spectral types earlier than B1 show thermal radio emission. Emission measure, mean electron density, and mass ofHii gas have been computed from the observed data, and a comparison between the radio flux and H- and H-flux densities has been made. The ratio of hydrogen mass and total stellar mass of the clusters and the gas to dust ratio are given.  相似文献

The contribution to the galactic abundance of He and heavy elements by stellar nucleosynthesis is calculated as a function of time, keeping account of present knowledge about stellar and galactic evolution. A model is used which distinguishes the phase of the contracting halo from the subsequent history of the disc. Various uncertainties involved both in stellar and in galactic evolutionary theory are discussed. The amount of4He produced by stars of different masses and ejected in interstellar medium is fairly well known from stellar theory, while we have assumed its primordial abundance as a free parameter, ranging from 0 up to 0.4. We find that stellar activity provides a significant contribution to the cosmic4He, though not sufficient to explain the observed abundance. The best agreement with observational data (Y 0.26 andY now0.28) is obtained starting with a primordial abundanceY =(0.20–0.23), which is consisten with the Big-Bang theory predictions and with recent observational estimates. The contribution to the abundance of heavy elements depends on the last stellar stages and on the final explosion mechanism, which are only now beginning to be understood. Nevertheless, in the framework of present theories, we individuate a stellar evolutionary scheme reproducing the observedZ abundances for Populationi and Populationii stars, with the correctly estimated Y/Z value. In this scheme, only stars belonging to two narrow mass ranges (10m/m 15 andm/m 80) are allowed to eject metal-enriched matter, possibly with the solar (C+O)/(Si+Fe) ratio.  相似文献

Evolutionary population synthesis models have been built to study the properties of the starforming processes taking place in starburst regions. BothZ andZ /10 stellar evolutionary tracks have been used to take into account that starburst galaxies are generally metal deficient. A very small time step allows us to follow the evolution of the cluster even during very short phases. Three parameters have been synthesized: the ratio of the Siiv (1400 Å) andCiv (1550 Å) UV absorption lines, that characterize the predominant massive stars in the cluster, the ratio of the WRbump over the H luminosity, tracer of WR stars and the FIR luminosity, directly related to the extinction due to dust in the cluster. The predictions have been compared with observations of the burst taking place in the galaxy Mkn 710. The burst age is 5–6 Myr. The stars seem to have formed simultaneously with a mass spectrum whose slope is in the range (1,2) for massive stars. The upper mass limit has to be 60M . We have performed a systematic study of a sample of 17 starburst galaxies searching for differences in the star formation process that may be related to different metallicities or morphological types.Based on observations with the International Ultraviolet Explorer collected at the Villafranca Satellite Tracking Station of the European Space Agency.  相似文献

Model calculations for laser action in Hei are carried out, when helium plasma is rapidly cooled by expansion. Results are presented for four transitions, two of which, 31 S21 P 0 (7281) and 31 D21 P 0 (6678), show strong population inversion. Available observational evidence for possible laser action in these two lines in Wolf-Rayet and emission-line stars is summarized and discussed.  相似文献

The stellar cluster and the massive molecular cloud associated with theHii region Sharpless 252 have been studied by means of multicolour polarization and molecular line measurements. The average wavelength of the maximum polarization max and polarization efficiency for the cluster stars are similar to the values observed for the nearby field stars. Two local maxima lying only 2 apart were found in the molecular cloud core in CO, NH3, and HCO+. The problem of the chemical composition of the envelopes of type I supernovae (SNI) is investigated. The identification of absorptions in the spectra of different SNI brings us to the conclusion that the abundance of O, C, N and S in these envelopes is noticeably higher than the standard stellar abundance. It is expected that the abundance of He is also very high. There are certain reasons for the identification of a H absorption in the spectra of SNI, although the abundance of this element in the envelopes cannot be high.The fact that the absorptions ofCI andOI in the spectra of SNI appear considerably later than the absorptions of HeI, NI and other elements is investigated in detail. This fact is explained on the basis of the assumption that there exists a stratification of elements in the envelopes. The presence of such a stratification is in agreement with the hypothesis that the stars which explode as type I supernovae are relatively massive and sufficiently evolved stars. In agreement with this explanation, the O and C atoms are mainly situated in the inner parts of the envelope, whereas the N and He atoms are situated in its outer parts, and it seems that hydrogen is situated in the most superficial layers (Figure 9).An analysis of the physical conditions inside the envelopes of SNI brings us to the conclusion that the central remnant of SNI is a source of anomalously high electromagnetic or corpuscular radiation, which is responsible for the super-excitation of the high atomic levels in the envelopes of SNI.  相似文献

We present observational data in the (16)(9)(25)-photometric system for 11 Wolf-Rayet stars and 7 planetary nebulae. The results show anomalous (16)(9)-indices for these emission objects. Six W-R stars show possible variations in the strength of the HeII line at 6560 Å, perhaps none in the strength of the HeI line at 10830 Å. In spite of these misconstrued (16) and (9)-indices, most WC stars are separated from WN stars in the (16)(9)-array; and PN, in this diagram lie far apart from all kind of stellar objects. The results, yielded by the (25)-index, indicate that the HeI and HeII lines at 10830 Å and 10124 Å, respectively, are probably well suited for photometric examination in W-R stars, PN and other peculiar objects.Paper presented at the 11th European Regional Astronomical Meetings of the IAU on New Windows to the Universe, held 3–8 July, 1989, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.  相似文献

The techniques and principal results of observational studies of stellar activity are summarized. Both chromospheric and coronal emission clearly track surface magnetic field properties, but it is not well known how the detailed relation between the emission and surface magnetic fields varies with spectral type. For lower Main-Sequence stars of the same spectral type, there is clear evidence of a close relationship between mean activity level and rotation period P rot. There is also less definitive evidence for a similar dependence on convective overturn time c , such that activity depends on the single parameter Ro = P rot/ c . For single stars, stellar rotation, and magnetic activity both decline smoothly with age. This implies a feedback between angular momentum loss rate and activity level. Temporal variations in mean stellar activity level mimic the solar cycle only for old stars like the Sun, being much more irregular for younger stars. The characteristic timescale of the variations (the cycle period) appears to depend on Ro for old stars, but shows no clear dependence on either rotation rate or spectral type for younger stars. Further data on mean activity and its variation for a large number of lower Main-Sequence stars should contribute significantly to our understanding of the causes of stellar magnetic activity.  相似文献

The granulation boundary is a line running in the HR diagram from about F0V stars to G1Ib. It divides the HR diagram in two regions in which the spectral line bisector behaves differently. To the right (cooler stars) the Fraunhofer lines in stellar spectra show the characteristics typical for convective motions. For hot stars it indicates the presence of large velocities involving a large part of the line-forming region. We give evidence that the opposite behaviour shown by spectra of hotter stars can be explained by gravity waves.  相似文献

The ring nebulae associated with galactic Of stars is considered on the grounds of the list of Of nebulae proposed by lozinskaya and Lomovsky (1982). Taking into account the selection effects, about 80% of Of stars are shown to be associated withHii regions and about 30–50% of these regions have shell structures. Four types of nebulae associated with Of stars are resolved: amorphousHii regions, ring-likeHii regions, wind-blown bubbles, and stellar ejectas. These types appear to be identical to the morphology of nebulae around WR stars proposed by Chu (1981). Observational data are presented and the nature of a number of Of ring nebulae of different types is discussed.  相似文献
