An analysis of the effects of Hall current on hydromagnetic free-convective flow through a porous medium bounded by a vertical plate is theoretically investigated when a strong magnetic field is imposed in a direction which is perpendicular to the free stream and makes an angle to the vertical direction. A simplified representation of the temperature distribution in the solar photosphere is proposed: ( 0) = 0 - 1 log 0. An expression is derived for the emergent continuous spectrum from the simple model. The limitations and applications of the simple model are discussed.  相似文献

Free convection effects on MHD flow past a semi infinite porous flat plate is studied when the time dependent suction velocity changes in step function form. The solution of the problem is obtained in closed form for the fluid with unit Prandtl number. It is observed that for both cooling and heating of the plate the suction velocity enhances the velocity field. The heat transfer is higher with increase in suction velocity.Notations B intensity of magnetic field - G Grashof number - H magnetic field parameter,H=(M+1/4) 1/2–1/2 - M magnetic field parameter - N u Nusselt number - P Prandtl number of the fluid - r suction parameter - T temperature of the fluid - T w temperature of the plate - T temperature of the fluid at infinity - t time - t non-dimensional time - u velocity of the fluid parallel to the plate - u non-dimensional velocity - U velocity of the free stream - suction velocity - 1 suction velocity att0 - 2 suction velocity att>0 - x,y coordinate axes parallel and normal to the plate, respectively - y non-dimensional distance normal to the plate - coefficient of volume expansion - thermal diffusivity - kinematic viscosity - electric conductivity of the fluid - density of the fluid - non-dimensional temperature of the fluid - shear stress at the plate - non dimensional shear stress - erf error function - erfc complementary error function  相似文献

The structure of rotating magnetic polytropes is considered in Roche approximation. Investigation of the influence of poloidal as well as toroidal magnetic fields on the conditions of the beginning of matter outflow due to rotational instability is carried out. The influence of the turbulent convection and twisting of magnetic force-lines on the time of smoothing of differential rotation is considered. The estimate of the magneto-turbulence energy generated by differential rotation is presented. Both maximum possible energy output and duration of the quasi-statical evolution phase up to the appearance of hydrodynamic instability due to the effects of general relativity are calculated for supermassive magnetic polytropes of index three with uniform or differential rotation. The radius-mass relation is obtained for supermassive differentially-rotating magnetic polytropes referring to the longest part of the quasi-statistical evolution stage; some consequences are pointed out, including the period-luminosity relation. The evolution of the considered models of supermassive rotating magnetic polytropes with different character of rotation and different geometry of a magnetic field is discussed. The results obtained are summarized in the last section.

Spherically symmetric, steady-state, optically thick accretion onto a nonrotating black hole with the mass of is studied. The gas accreting onto the black hole is assumed to be a fully ionized hydrogen plasma withn 0=108 cm–3 andT 0=104 K far from the black hole, and a new approximate expression for the Eddington factor is introduced. The luminosity is estimated to beL=1.875×1033 erg s–1, which primarily arises from the optical surface (1) ofT104 K. The accretion flow is characterized by 1 and (v/c)10. In the optically thin region, the flow remains isothermal, and the increase of temperature occurs at 1. The radiative equilibrium is strictly realized at (v/c)10.  相似文献

An exact analysis of the effects of mass transfer on the flow of a viscous incompressible fluid past an uniformly accelerated vertical porous and non-porous plate has been presented on taking into account the free convection currents. Multiple expansion of the tidal potential   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The Earth tidal deformation causes an additional gravitational potential. Its effect on the Moon orbital motion has been studied by several authors. In this contribution, we develop this additional potential without specifying the inertial frame chosen. For this purpose, we use the properties of the representation of rotation groups in 3 dimensions space. We finally obtain the interaction potential between the distorted Earth and the Moon which is a necessary preliminary to the study of the evolution of the Earth-Moon system.Nomenclature T.R.O Tide raising object - (, , ) Spherical coordinates of the T.R.O. - (J, E ) Earth spin axis orientation. A precise solar surface photometric observing system was developed and intensity observations of the whole Sun were carried out at a fairly quiet period from December 1987 to April 1988, attaining the photometric accuracy of 10–3. Using 28 days observation of 4 hours duration each and 0.3 s time interval, we obtained the center-to-limb variation of the ratio of the facular intensity contrast (I f÷Io) between two colors of 545 nm (G) and 770 nm (R): (I f÷I0)G÷(If÷I0)R = 2.20 – 1.16, where is the direction cosine between the line of sight and the surface normal. While this relationship was obtained mostly for active regions from the whole Sun data, we also found an almost identical relation for the quiet Sun network by excluding active regions. This suggests the similarity of faculae at both places.Using the above relation and the difference of optical depth, , in two colors, we found that the facular temperature gradient, dT/d G, is smaller than that of the quiet photosphere if the gradient is measured more or less vertically (i.e., seen at > 0.7) in accord with Foukal and Duvall (1985), while it is larger than that of the quiet photosphere if the temperature gradient is measured more obliquely (i.e., seen at > 0.7). These findings are free from the low spatial resolution of the present observations because the contrast ratio was used, and also independent of a specific model of hot-wall or hillock. In particular, if the true contrast of facular bright points of 0'2 size is taken as 40% in the green from high-resolution observations, the facular point temperature may even be increasing towards higher geometrical levels ar G 1. We found also that the area filling factor in active regions is on the order of a few percent or so in accordance with the previous studies.  相似文献

The power in the different modes of an expansion of the solar radial magnetic field at the surface in terms of Legendre polynomials,P , is calculated with the help of a solar dynamo model studied earlier. The model is of the Babcock–Leighton type, i.e., the surface eruptions of the toroidal magnetic field – through the tilt angle, , formed by the magnetic axis of a bipolar magnetic region with the east-west line – are the sources for the poloidal field. In this paper it is assumed that the tilt angle is subject to fluctuations of the form, = ()+ <> where <> is the average value and () is a random normal fluctuation with standard deviation which is taken from Howard's observations of the distribution of tilt angles. For numerical considerations, negative values of were not allowed. If this occurred, was recalculated. The numerical integrations were started with a toroidal magnetic field antisymmetric across the equator, large enough to generate eruptions, and a negligible poloidal field. The fluctuations in the tilt angle destroy the antisymmetry as time increases. The power of the antisymmetric modes across the equator (i.e., odd values of ) is concentrated in frequencies, p, corresponding to the cycle period. The maximum power lies in the =3 mode with considerable power in the =5 mode, in broad agreement with Stenflo's results who finds a maximum power at =5. For the symmetric modes, there is considerable power in frequencies larger than p, again in broad agreement with Stenflo's power spectrum.  相似文献

The location and the stability of the libration points in the restricted problem have been studied when small perturbation and are given to the Coriolis and the centrifugal forces respectively. It is seen that the pointsL 4 andL 5 form nearly equilateral triangles with the primaries and the pointsL 1,L 2,L 3 remain collinear. It is further observed that for the pointsL 4 andL 5, the range of stability increases or decreases depending upon whether the point (, ) lies in one or the other of the two parts in which the (, ) plane is divided by the line 36-19=0 and the stability of the collinear points is not influenced by the perturbations and they remain unstable.  相似文献

A comparison is made between the stability criteria of Hill and that of Laplace to determine the stability of outer planetary orbits encircling binary stars. The restricted, analytically determined results of Hill's method by Szebehely and co-workers and the general, numerically integrated results of Laplace's method by Graziani and Black are compared for varying values of the mass parameter =m 2/(m 1+m 2). For 00.15, the closest orbit (lower limit of radius) an outer planet in a binary system can have and still remain stable is determined by Hill's stability criterion. For >0.15, the critical radius is determined by Laplace's stability criterion. It appears that the Graziani-Black stability criterion describes the critical orbit within a few percent for all values of .  相似文献

Apparent radius, visual brightness, effective temperature and absolute radius for 416 B5 v-F5 v stars of the catalogue of the Geneva Observatory (Rufener, 1976) have been determined.Twenty-eight stars, anomalous in log versus (m v)0 diagrams, have been singled out. A good correlation for seven stars, in common with the list of Hanbury Brownet al. (1974), has been found. Similar parameters determined for 279 B5 v-F5 v stars of two preceding papers (Fracassiniet al., 1973, 1975) have allowed us to determine the averaged diagrams logq v/q, logR/R and logT e versus (B-V)0 for 695 B5 v-F5 v stars. Moreover, in the present paper a good correlation logq v/q versus logR/R and careful relation M v=–7.40logR/R +3.31 for B5 v-F5 v stars have been determined. Plain correlations between logR/R and blanketing parameterm 2 for some spectral types seem to point out that there arereal differences in the absolute radii of stars of thesame spectral type, in agreement with recent researches on the HR diagram (Houck and Fesen, 1978).Systematic differences between double (spectroscopic and visual) and single stars are found. In particular, the averaged relation m 2 versus logR/R shows that A2 v-F5 v double stars may have a higher metallicity indexm 2 and smaller absolute radii than single stars. Finally, the diagram logv sini versus logR/R confirms some properties of binary systems found by other researchers (Huang, 1966; Plavec, 1970; Levato, 1974; Kitamura and Kondo, 1978).Thesis for the degree in Applied Physics.  相似文献

Charged particle acceleration is considered by a radiation flux from a star or hot spot in X-ray pulsars. It is shown that for any distance from the star there exists the upper velocity limit up to which a particle can be accelerated by radiation. This critical velocity does not depend on the luminosity of the spot. Near the hot spot surface the critical velocityv0.65c. These results are applied to plasma acceleration inX-ray pulsars. The mechanism is advanced, of -ray generation in the course of plasma accretion, onto a neutron star. It is shown that in the presence of a large magnetic field and high luminosity of the spot the relativistic electron-position avalanche may appear. The optical depth of the electron-positron cloud achieves the value of order one. The X-ray quanta emitted by the spot are scattered by relativistic (2.6) electron-positron pairs and are transformed into -radiation. Hard quanta with energy 1 MeV leave the generation region in the narrow cone 0.25.  相似文献

Computations of polarization and intensity of radiation from a unit stellar surface area are presented, as well as a study of the numerical characteristics of atmospheres — single-scattering albedo and the initial source function(), which define the polarization behaviour of atmospheres. The radiatively stable models of stellar atmospheres presented by Kuruczet al. (1974) and Kurucz (1979) have been used for calculations. Since the versus optical depth dependence is rather weak, it has been assumed that (=cost. With a fixed effective temperatureT eff maximum values of are characteristic of stars featuring the lowest surface gravity accelerationg. Among stars with radiatively stable atmospheres, maximum values of (=5000 Å) 0.4–0.6 are exhibited by supergiants withT eff=8000–20 000 K. The plot of () is characterized by discontinuities at the boundaries of spectral series for hydrogen and, sometimes, for helium. Maximum are attained in the Lyman region of =912–1200 Å, where can reach the value 0.7–0.9 for supergiants, this value being 0.3 for Main-Sequence stars. For stars withT eff 35 000 K, high values of also are attained for <912 Å. Within the infrared region, is always small because of bremsstrahlung absorption.A rapid growth of the source functionB with < typical for ultraviolet range (within the Wien part of spectrum), together with high values of results in the strong polarization of emission from a unit stellar surface element, sometimes exceeding the values for the case of a pure electron scattering. For longer wavelengths, where the limb-darkening coefficient is smaller, the plane of polarization abruptly turns 90° in the central parts of the visible stellar disk.  相似文献

Cyclotron waves in the solar wind near 1 AU with frequencies well below the electron cyclotron frequency and wavelengths much larger than the electron cyclotron radius but less than the proton cyclotron radius are considered. The cyclotron radii are defined from parallel thermal velocity of electron component and proton component with respect to the interplanetary magnetic field. No LH cyclotron waves are found to propagate for p < 0, where p 1 –T p/T p is the temperature anisotropy of the proton component with respect to the interplanetary magnetic field. The damping or growth of RH cyclotron waves is found to depend on the frequency range and the temperature anisotropy of the proton component. The RH cyclotron waves are damped in the frequency range r | p | p for p < 0, where p is the proton cyclotron frequency. RH cyclotron instabilities occur in the frequency range | p | p > r > | p | p /(1– r ) for p < 0. The marginal state is at r =| p | p .Abstract presented at theInternational Symposium on Solar-Terrestrial, São Paulo, Brazil, 17–22 June, 1974  相似文献

Some particular solutions of the restricted three-body problem which determine outgoing or incoming orbits near libration points are considered. The solutions are obtained in the form of absolutely convergent Liapounov series. It is proved that these asymptotic solutions are plane curves situated in the orbital plane of the primaries. Each family of asymptotic solutions for every collinear point consists of four solutions which are the separatrices of a saddle point. The angles of inclination of the separatrices are determined.

A cross-correlation study for time-lags of ±5 yrs between eleven ground based ozone stations (1957–1985) for = 40°N–75° N and = 30° E-114° W and five volcanic emissivity indices has shown their close connection: significant correlations well above 90% were obtained. Intepretation of these positive/negative correlations () was based on the global wind circulation (aided also by a 2-D, 3-D representation between, , ), and the types of volcanic aerosols leading to heterogeneous chemical reactions with ozone.  相似文献
