Physical modelling experiments have been carried out in a cold room to test on a small scale, the effects of water supply during the thaw of an experimental slope with permafrost. Permafrost was maintained at depth and a thin active layer was frozen and thawed from the surface. Data from the experiments relate to two different conditions, first with moderate rainfall, and second with heavy rainfall during the thaw period. When moderate rainfall is applied during thaw phases, the experimental slope is slightly degraded. At the scale of the experiment, erosion processes involve frost jacking of the coarse blocks, frost creep and gelifluction that induce slow and gradual down slope displacements of the active layer, but also small landslides leading to large but slow mass movements with short displacements. Changes in experimental slope morphology are marked by the initiation of a small‐scale drainage network and the development of a little crest line which shows a progressive upslope migration. With such boundary conditions, there is not enough water supply to evacuate downslope the whole of the eroded material and a topographic smoothing is observed. When heavy rainfall is applied during thaw periods, rapid mass wasting (small mud‐flows and debris flows) become prominent. Slope failures are largely controlled by the water saturation of the active layer and by the occurrence of steeper slopes. At the scale of the experiment, rates of erosion and maximum incision increase by about 100% leading to significant slope degradation with marked and specific scars comparable to gullying. These morphological changes are dependant on both the size and the frequency of catastrophic events. These experiments provide detailed data that could improve the knowledge of the physical parameters that control the initiation, at a small‐scale, of erosion processes on periglacial slopes with a thin active layer and/or with thin cover of mobilizable slope deposits. In October 1965 and February 1966, 55 Young-pits were installed in tropical Northern Territory (NT) and temperate New South Wales (NSW). Pits were monitored in 1968, 1971 and 1974; also, for the NT only, in 1988. In each region, half of the pits are on weathered granite, and half on sandstone. Local relief is 30m or less, and slopes are up to 20°. Annual rainfall is evenly distributed in the NSW sites (800 mm a−1), but is confined to the five to six month wet season in NT (1200 mm a−1). Six pits suffered external disturbance and so were not analysed. Analysis of 160 rods in 49 undisturbed pits shows: (1) vectorial movement generally not downslope parallel to the ground surface, but dominated by a vertically downward component; (2) significant uphill and vertically upward components of movement for many rods; (3) a weak correlation between total movement and sine of slope; (4) rapid movement during 1965-68, and slow movement thereafter; (5) significantly higher creep rates on the NT granites than on all other sites, perhaps because mound-building termites are especially active there. We conclude that our data do not support soil creep models which assume that all movement is downslope and slope-parallel. Physical modelling has been developed in order to simulate the effects of periglacial erosion processes on the degradation of slopes and scarps. Data from 41 experimental freeze–thaw cycles are presented. They attest to the efficiency of periglacial processes that control both erosion and changes in scarp morphology: (i) cryoexpulsion leads to an increase of scarp surface roughness and modifies significantly the internal structure of the active layer; (ii) combined effects of frost creep and gelifluction lead to slow and gradual downslope displacements of the active layer (0·3 cm/cycle); (iii) debris flows are associated with the most significant changes in scarp morphology and are responsible for the highest rate of scarp erosion; (iv) quantification of the erosion rate gives values close to 1 cm3 cm?2 for 41 freeze–thaw cycles. These experimental results are consistent with field data acquired along the La Hague fault scarp (Normandy, France) where an erosion rate of 4·6 ± 1 m3 m?2 per glacial stage has been computed from the volume of natural slope deposits stored during the Weichselian glacial stage. The Hortonian model of runoff flow which had been thought to be applicable in arid areas has previously been shown not to be valid, notably in Israel, where inverse relations have been observed between slope angle, and runoff discharge and slope erosion. The paper discusses laboratory experiments on simulated slope conditions in a rather arid environment. It is shown by rain simulation on granite grus that infiltration capacity is a function of rainfall intensity, slope angle and runoff discharge. The infiltration capacity f can equal the rainfall intensity beyond a critical distance x(m) so that discharge becomes constant. Debris covers affect runoff hydraulics, especially on poorly cohesive soils, and both slow downslope and upslope movements which correspond to the process of so-called runoff creep can occur. Coarse debris and grass covers, as roughness factors, induce hydraulic discontinuities and activate local turbulent flow and slope erosion. Instead of being merely protective elements these factors tend to catalyze the slope wash, in comparison with naked surfaces, if the Reynolds number of the flow exceeds a certain critical value.  相似文献

Ischia is an active volcanic island in the Gulf of Naples whose history has been dominated by a caldera-forming eruption (ca. 55 ka) and resurgence phenomena that have affected the caldera floor and generated a net uplift of about 900 m since 33 ka. The results of new geomorphological, stratigraphical and textural investigations of the products of gravitational movements triggered by volcano-tectonic events have been combined with the information arising from a reinterpretation of historical chronicles on natural phenomena such as earthquakes, ground deformation, gravitational movements and volcanic eruptions. The combined interpretation of all these data shows that gravitational movements, coeval to volcanic activity and uplift events related to the long-lasting resurgence, have affected the highly fractured marginal portions of the most uplifted Mt. Epomeo blocks. Such movements, mostly occurring since 3 ka, include debris avalanches; large debris flows (lahars); smaller mass movements (rock falls, slumps, debris and rock slides, and small debris flows); and deep-seated gravitational slope deformation. The occurrence of submarine deposits linked with subaerial deposits of the most voluminous mass movements clearly shows that the debris avalanches impacted on the sea. The obtained results corroborate the hypothesis that the behaviour of the Ischia volcano is based on an intimate interplay among magmatism, resurgence dynamics, fault generation, seismicity, slope oversteepening and instability, and eruptions. They also highlight that volcano-tectonically triggered mass movements are a potentially hazardous phenomena that have to be taken into account in any attempt to assess volcanic and related hazards at Ischia. Furthermore, the largest mass movements could also flow into the sea, generating tsunami waves that could impact on the island’s coast as well as on the neighbouring and densely inhabited coast of the Neapolitan area.  相似文献

We present a methodology to construct three-dimensional deformation maps using different parameters that can be extracted using SAR data. We apply the methodology using ENVISAT SAR data before and after the December 26th, 2003 Mw 6.6 Bam earthquake in Iran to determine spatial quasi-continuous three-dimensional coseismic deformation maps. Two near vertical deformation offset components are computed using Envisat ASAR differential interferometry (DInSAR), while two horizontal deformation offset components are measured using sub-pixel correlation techniques applied to ASAR amplitude images. Using the presented methodology, we combine four unevenly precise independent projections of surface coseismic deformation to obtain the full three-dimensional coseismic deformation field caused by an earthquake. The full 3-D coseismic displacement vector is modeled using elastic deformation models constraining details of the fault geometry and slip distribution at depth. Results from the inversion are interpreted in the framework of the Iranian present-day tectonism. Full exploitation of dense 3-D coseismic surface deformation using SAR data, even for moderate earthquakes, should facilitate distinguishing between different interpretations of the mechanical properties of seismically active areas and within the inherent ambiguity of the geophysical inversion solutions.  相似文献

基于时序InSAR技术,并结合现场调查,采用新磨村滑坡发生前30景SAR数据和滑坡发生后36景SAR数据对滑坡及周边区域形变进行监测,结果表明:①新磨村滑坡发生前,坡脚未探测到明显的变形,但滑源区有明显的变形迹象,主要变形发生2016年和2017年,滑源区坡体经历了“缓慢变形-加速-暂时稳定-再加速-滑坡发生”过程;②新磨村滑坡发生后,在坡脚堆积区东南部形成一个不稳定变形体,累积变形量较大,雨季有加快变形趋势,尚未达到稳定状态;③根据新磨村滑坡前、后变形规律,滑坡发生前、后地表变形受降雨影响明显。  相似文献

多年冻土活动层变化导致冻土区大范围地面变形,严重破坏区域内基础设施和水文地质条件,亟需加强活动层季节冻融过程的观测研究.本文提出一种基于分布式目标的小基线集时序InSAR(DSs-SBAS)的冻土形变监测方法.该方法采用分布式目标提取和特征值分解算法,并结合基于地温-形变约束关系的参考点选取新策略,提高了冻土形变监测结果的时空分辨率和可靠性.以祁连山黑河西支源头的野牛沟为研究区域,通过对27景Sentinel-1SAR影像进行时序InSAR分析,获取了2014-2016年该区多年冻土的形变时间序列和年均形变速率,并利用Stefan模型联合地温数据估算其季节性形变幅度.实地踏勘和结果分析表明:(1)研究区大部分多年冻土处于稳定状态(-1.0^+1.0cm·a^-1),在地形陡峭的南坡边缘及含冰量丰富的野牛沟河上游两侧沟底部分区域存在较大形变;(2)区域内冻土形变时间序列呈现年周期变化,冻土冻融形变存在季节性周期形变和季节性波动下沉两种形变特征,形变幅度和速率最大可达6.0cm和-3.0cm·a^-1;(3)不同区域的活动层冻结/融化始日和冻土形变存在明显差异,主要和冻土地貌、土壤类型以及活动层厚度有关.本文提出的方法在青藏高原多年冻土区大范围冻融监测和活动层厚度反演研究方面具有很大的应用潜力.  相似文献

以甘肃省平凉市的典型黄土塬斜坡为原型,开展含裂隙黄土塬边斜坡与不含裂隙黄土塬边斜坡的振动台对比模型试验,研究不同强度地震作用下两种黄土斜坡的变形失稳特征。结果表明:两种不同结构的斜坡在不同强度地震作用下的破坏特征显著不同,裂隙的存在降低了含裂隙斜坡的抗震稳定性。随着输入地震波幅值的增加,含裂隙斜坡的变形破坏过程为:坡顶裂隙处先后发生裂隙前缘崩塌、坡面溜土、临空面方向大位移、坡面中部和坡脚鼓胀、剪切滑移、发生多级滑动,同时坡体后缘产生新的拉张裂隙;无裂隙斜坡的破坏过程为:坡顶形成拉张裂缝、坡面溜土、坡脚鼓胀、发生单级滑动。两种结构边坡的变形破裂包括倾倒—拉裂与剪切—滑移两种模式,斜坡的变形演化是两种模式相互作用的结果。  相似文献

The Blue Ridge escarpment, located within the southern Appalachian Mountains of Virginia and North Carolina, forms a distinct, steep boundary between the lower‐elevation Piedmont and higher‐elevation Blue Ridge physiographic provinces. To understand better the rate at which this landform and the adjacent landscape are changing, we measured cosmogenic beryllium‐10 (10Be) in quartz separated from sediment samples (n = 50) collected in 32 streams and from three exposed bedrock outcrops along four transects normal to the escarpment, allowing us to calculate erosion rates integrated over 104–105 years. These basin‐averaged erosion rates (5.4–49 m Myr?1) are consistent with those measured elsewhere in the southern Appalachain Mountains and show a positive relationship between erosion rate and average basin slope. Erosion rates show no relationship with basin size or relative position of the Brevard fault zone, a fundamental structural element of the region. The cosmogenic isotopic data, when considered along with the distribution of average basin slopes in each physiographic province, suggest that the escarpment is eroding on average more rapidly than the Blue Ridge uplands, which are eroding more rapidly than the Piedmont lowlands. This difference in erosion rates by geomorphic setting suggests that the elevation difference between the uplands and lowlands adjacent to the escarpment is being reduced but at extremely slow rates. Differential SAR Interferometry (DInSAR) is a technique that can be used to detect and characterize slope movements. It is investigated here as a tool for establishing a detailed overview of complex slope movements at a regional scale in an Alpine context. This paper gives specific recommendations to use and to understand DInSAR signals in mountainous areas located above the tree line, excluding glaciated areas. It proposes a systematic procedure based on accurate interpretations of interferometric signals from a large DInSAR dataset to locate and estimate the displacement rate of moving zones. The methodology was successfully applied in the Western Swiss Alps, where about 1500 moving objects were detected above the tree line using a large dataset of ERS and JERS interferograms dating from the 1990s. The DInSAR‐detected movements had a displacement rate ranging from a few centimeters to several meters per year and were attributed to various types of mass wasting phenomena (rock glaciers, landslides, etc.). This kind of inventory derived from DInSAR can be used as a preliminary tool for natural hazard management and process understanding in mountain areas. As automatic data archiving and systematic acquisition of SAR data are ensured worldwide for most SAR sensors, a similar methodology can basically be applied in many other parts of the globe – also by using data from current SAR sensors – as long as a high resolution DEM is available. 四川省阿坝州理县蒲溪乡河坝村后山边坡属于老滑坡区,2014年6月以来,出现地表拉裂、鼓胀、下挫及挡墙剪切错断等现象,并不断加剧恶化,严重威胁当地民众安全。为预防滑坡灾害,当地政府在边坡前修建防护坝。为评估该防护工程效果,获取6个新建GNSS观测点实时变形观测数据,运用灰色关联法,明确降水变率是造成该区形变的主要因素,进而采用边坡变形量行业常用GM(1, 1)模型,预测可能的边坡形变量,并与GNSS观测点实测值对比,结果表明,在防护坝建成1年7个月后,边坡变形速率逐渐减缓,防护工程治理效果显现。  相似文献

Sediment transport in the scoria areas of Marion Island is primarily the result of needle‐ice‐induced frost creep associated with diurnal soil frost cycles. Clasts move most rapidly in ?ne textured areas (532 mm a?1; SD 382), more slowly in stony areas (161 mm a?1; SD 179), and most slowly in blocky areas (26 mm a?1; SD 23). Movement rates increase with increasing frost susceptibility of sediments, slope angle and altitude. The heave of dowels indicates that frost heave is active in all the scoria areas examined. The depth of effective frost heave increases with increasing altitude, with frost heave being restricted to the upper 100 mm of the soil in low altitude areas (<200 m). The heave of 150 mm dowels at the higher altitude sites provides evidence for segregation ice formation at depths greater than those associated with needle ice and diurnal soil frost cycles. Vertical movement pro?les show a concave downslope pro?le, with sediment movement rates being most rapid at the soil surface and decreasing rapidly with depth. This pro?le shape is typical of areas dominated by diurnal freeze–thaw cycles and needle ice. The capture of sediments moving downslope in troughs and the sampling of material lifted by needle ice, suggest that sediment transport by needle ice under present conditions is extremely effective. Observations suggest that although both ?ne material and clasts are transported downslope, some preferential transport of clasts occurs. Experiment results and observations of soil frost processes suggest that frost creep associated with needle ice activity is the dominant slope process in the scoria areas of Marion Island. Other slope processes such as slopewash and debris ?ows appear to play a relatively minor and localized role in sediment transport. It is suggested that needle ice activity is likely to be the dominant geomorphic agent in other areas of the Subantarctic with similar climatic characteristics to Marion Island. 准噶尔盆地经历了晚海西、印支、燕山和喜马拉雅期多次构造运动的影响,多期构造变形叠加复合使盆地内构造变形复杂多样。由于各期构造运动影响的范围、应力作用方式不尽相同,因而盆地不同地区的构造变形样式、圈闭类型和分布特征各不相同。西北部构造区( 带) 发育“鱼鳞”状冲断推覆构造;东北部构造区( 带) 以雁列状展布的冲断构造为主;东、西部构造区( 带) 发育近直线状冲断构造;南部构造区(带) 发育“瓦垅”状推覆构造;中央构造区变形较弱,以隆坳变形为主,发育少量正断层和逆断层。各构造区(带) 发育了特征不同的油气圈闭  相似文献

Lock-exchange experiments are conducted to investigate the effects of emergent vegetation on gravity currents flowing down a slope. Rigid and emergent cylinders are used to represent vegetation such as reeds in aquatic environments. The results show that the head of gravity currents without cylinders forms a semi-elliptic shape, similar to the flat bed case. For the slope-induced gravity, however, the head of gravity currents gradually grows and accelerates. A steeper slope without cylinders causes the evident entrainment and subsequent energy dissipation of gravity currents with ambient fluid. When the cylinder population becomes denser, developments of the head become slower, and the semi-elliptic head can be only seen at the very front end. As the density reaches 6.9%, the interface between the saltwater and freshwater performs an inclined straight line, corresponding to the pervious theoretical derivation. The gravity current event could go through two different routes under the similar toe speeds. The current head without cylinders grows along the downslope path, and the enrollment and mixing with ambient fluid could occur at the edge of the head; while the currents within dense cylinders (∼6.9%) has a nearly constant thickness and a smaller and more streamlined head at the very front end. As the cylinder density increases, the front speed of gravity currents transforms from acceleration to deceleration phases. Detailed analysis was conducted on large‐scale gravitational‐tectonic deformations and landslides in the Acambay graben, an intra‐arc basin in the trans‐Mexican volcanic belt (TMVB). Field mapping and remote sensing revealed the slope instability of the northern graben boundary induced by the Acambay‐Tixmadejé fault. Two major landslides of 0·1 km3 and 0·05 km3 in volume were identified and their characteristics were analyzed according to the role of tectonics, mechanism of slope failure, and possible triggering factors. Quaternary faulting played a major role in increasing the local relief, and the activity of the Acambay‐Tixmadejé fault represents the main geomorphic factor conditioning the gravitational movements. Moreover, displacements along this fault generated sliding surfaces and reduced the strength of the rock mass. The two landslides are classified as large‐scale rotational slides involving volcanic rocks of late Miocene‐Pleistocene age. Since the Acambay graben is a seismogenic area with a known maximum horizontal ground acceleration of 0·5 g, a strong earthquake could be ascribed as the possible triggering mechanism of the landslides. Our work represents the first analysis of large gravitational slope movements in tectonically active regions in Mexico, a process that can be common in the intra‐arc basins of the TMVB, where active tectonic, seismicity, weak altered volcanic rocks, and heavy rains affect the slope stability. 为揭示活动陆缘深水褶皱冲断带的特征及成因,本文利用地震和区域地质资料的综合分析,系统阐述了文莱—沙巴盆地深水褶皱冲断带的构造变形特征,并结合盆地演化动力学特点,探讨其构造变形机制及其对深水区油气成藏的影响.研究结果表明,文莱—沙巴盆地深水褶皱冲断带具有"垂向分期、平面分段"的特点,垂向上,以中中新统底界面为界可划分为下部(始新世-早中新世)和上部(中中新世-现今)两套逆冲褶皱冲断体系,其中下部逆冲褶皱冲断带的形成与古南海的俯冲作用密切相关,上部逆冲褶皱冲断带是中中新世以来三角洲前缘重力滑动与苏禄海扩张造成的区域挤压应力远程效应共同作用的结果,且苏禄海扩张造成的远程挤压效应主控平面上南北段褶皱冲断带变形的差异性,导致北段褶皱变形强度大于南段,具有背斜褶皱数量多、褶皱间距离短、逆冲断层倾角陡的特点,南段反之;且晚上新世以来北段深水区地层缩短量大于陆架区伸展量,两者之差为2~6 km,而南段两者相当,仅受三角洲前缘重力滑动影响.整个褶皱冲断带发育断弯、断展、断滑褶皱等3种断层相关褶皱以及叠瓦扇和冲起构造2种逆冲构造组合,是多期NW向挤压应力作用下形成的大型逆冲推覆构造,以前展式向盆地扩展.此外,由于中中新世以来逆冲断层的持续活动,研究区深水褶皱冲断带发育众多构造圈闭,油气成藏条件优越,且南段优于北段,靠近陆坡的近端优于远端,可作为勘探部署重点.  相似文献

Rock fragments in the regolith are a persistent property that reflects the combined influences of geologic controls, erosion, deposition, bioturbation, and weathering. The distribution of rock fragments in regoliths of the Ouachita Mountains, Arkansas, shows that sandstone fragments are common in all layers, even if sandstone is absent in parent material. Shale and sandstone fragments are produced at the bedrock weathering front, but the shale weathers rapidly and intact fragments are rare in the solum. Sandstone is weathered from ridgetop outcrops and transported downslope. Some of these fragments are moved downward, by faunalturbation and by transport into pits associated with rotting tree stumps. Upward movement by treethrow is common, resulting in a net concentration of rocks near the surface. However, the highest fragment concentrations are in the lower regolith, indicating active production at the weathering front. The regolith is a dynamic feature, reflecting the influences of vertical and horizontal processes, of active weathering at the bedrock interface, and of surficial sediment movements. The role of trees in redistributing rock fragments suggests that significant regolith mixing occurs over time scales associated with forest vegetation communities, and that forest soils have likely been extensively mixed within Holocene and historic time. 海岸带地区是全球自然生态环境最为复杂和脆弱的地域之一,合成孔径雷达干涉测量(InSAR)技术可以为全球人类活动、气候变暖和俯冲带剧烈构造运动等背景下的大范围海岸带地理环境变化研究提供重要观测资料.海洋潮汐导致固体地球长周期形变,波长尺度为102~103 km的海潮负荷引入mm级至cm级的形变梯度,此类非构造信号对海岸带InSAR精密形变分析(如:大范围、微小、缓慢且非稳态构造过程等)造成显著影响.本文以宽幅模式SAR数据为例,基于多种海潮模型研究了全球典型海岸带地区(福建、智利和阿拉斯加湾)海潮负荷效应对宽幅InSAR形变监测的影响,给出了宽幅InSAR海潮负荷三维分量估计与差分相位提取方法,并进一步讨论了基于不同海潮模型估计海潮负荷位移的差异.海潮负荷影响不仅与研究范围大小有关,其形变梯度变化与研究区域地形特征存在强相关,对于长波长形变分析而言,传统平面或者曲面拟合方法难以有效分离海潮负荷位移.  相似文献
