The fall of a meteorite shower in Marilia, Sao Paulo State, Brasil, is announced. An individual specimen is macroscopically described in some detail. The X-ray diffraction analysis shows it to be an olivine-bronzite chondrite or group H4 classification. 相似文献

A 1.5 kg iron found in 1960 at Gosnells, near Perth, Western Australia, belongs to Wasson's chemical group I-An3 and is structurally unusual, being best described as a heat-altered granular coarse octahedrite. It is chemically and structurally very similar to the Mount Dooling iron, found in 1909 about 400 km away, and has a fracture surface which fits the Mount Dooling mass very closely. The Gosnells fragment was probably transported by human agency, though it is not known when or by whom. 相似文献

A mineralogical and chemical analysis has been performed on a slice of the Mills, New Mexico, chondrite, which was found in August 1970. The mineralogical composition is olivine Fa19.5, bronzite, Fs17.4, plagioclase, nickel-iron, troilite and ilmenite. The chemical analysis confirms that Mills is a typical bronzite, H5 chondrite, with considerable degree of weathering, as indicated by the presence of large amounts of Fe2O3. A comparison with other stones found in the same New Mexico region by Nininger may show a possible relation between Mills and previous finds. 相似文献

Twelve stones, ranging up to 504 g (total weight 2.92 kg), of a very fresh eucrite have been collected from a 1 km2 area on the Nullarbor Plain in Western Australia. The location is approximately 75 km N6°E from Nurina Siding on the Trans-Australian Railway; coordinates 30°19′S, 126°37′E. This eucrite consists almost entirely of pyroxene (mean composition Wo 16 Fs 49) and plagioclase (mean composition An 85) in approximate proportions 3: 2, with 2% almost pure Fe metal and accessory amounts of troilite, ilmenite, and an SiO2 phase. Gabbroic and doleritic clasts are present in a groundmass of comminuted pyroxene and plagioclase. The chemical composition (weight per cent) is: SiO2 49.53, TiO2 0.74, Al2O3 12.49, Cr2O3 0.33, FeO 16.07, MnO 0.56, MgO 6.31, CaO 10.41, Na2O 0.49, K2O 0.04, P2O5 < 0.01, H2O + < 0.1, H2O — 0.07, Fe metal 2.07, Ni < 0.01, Co < 0.01, FeS 0.19, C 0.03, sum 99.33. 相似文献

The presently known carbonaceous chondrites are listed, and their densities and contents of Fe, Si, and Mg recorded. A review of classification schemes indicate that Wiik's (1956) division into Types I, II, and III reflects basic differences in chemical and mineralogical composition and structure, and is preferable to the Van Schmus-Wood (1967) classification into C1, C2, C3, and C4 types. Renazzo is a Type II meteorite. The Van Schmus division of Type III meteorites into two subtypes is sustained, and is shown to involve not only textural differences but also differences in total iron content. The genesis of the different types of carbonaceous chondrites is ascribed to condensation in different temperature regions within the early solar nebula. 相似文献

The composition and mineralogy of Bench Crater and a new carbonaceous chondrite (Adelaide) are compared. They, Kakangari and possibly certain carbonaceous xenoliths from other meteorites constitute a distinct chemical subgroup of the carbonaceous chondrites characterized primarily by a calcium-to-aluminium ratio (atomic) of about 0.5. We have selected a complete, flux-limited sample of bright point-like sources with absorbed X-ray spectra from the ROSAT All-Sky survey, the ROSAT Hard Survey (RHS). The sample is drawn from the high-galactic latitude sky, |bII| > ±30°, and avoids the general direction of the Magellanic Clouds and the Virgo Cluster. It comprises a total of 182 objects of which 118 were previosly catalogued objects and 64 were new AGN candidates. Through optical follow-up studies at La Silla, Calar Alto and the 6m Zelentchuk telescope we could identify 56 of the new objects, thus achieving a spectrscopic completeness of 96% of the sample. The selection strategy turned out to be extremely useful. Out of the new identifications, 84% are indeed active galaxies or emission line galaxies. While 14 objects are new BL Lac candidates 33 of the new AGN are Seyfert galaxies with a redshift distribution in the range 0.021–0.63, peaking at around 0.06, i.e. relatively local. Surprisingly, about 40% of the X-ray selected Seyfert galaxies seem to reside in interacting systems. With smaller selection uncertainties this fraction exceeds the number of paired galaxies in optically selected samples and therefore gives strong support to the idea that AGN activity is triggered by interaction. 相似文献

This work is part of a project to build an infrared database in order to link IR data of planetary materials (and therefore possible Mercury material) with remote sensing observations of Mercury, which will probably be obtained by the MERTIS instrument on the forthcoming BepiColombo mission. The unique achondrite Northwest Africa (NWA) 7325, which has previously been suggested to represent the first sample from Mercury, was investigated by optical and electron microscopy, and infrared and Raman spectroscopy. In addition, the oxygen, strontium, xenon, and argon isotopes were measured and the abundance of selected trace elements determined. The meteorite is a cumulate rock with subchondritic abundances of HFSE and REE and elevated Sr contents, which underwent a second heating and partial remelting process. Oxygen isotope measurements show that NWA 7325 plots in the ureilite field, close to the ALM‐A trachyandesitic fragment found in the unique Almahata Sitta meteorite breccia. On the other hand, mineralogical investigations of the pyroxenes in NWA 7325 provide evidence for similarities to the lodranites and acapulcoites. Furthermore, the rock is weakly shocked and argon isotope data record ancient (~4.5 Ga) plateau ages that have not been reset. The sample records a cosmogenic exposure age of ~19 Ma. Systematics of Rb‐Sr indicate an extreme early volatile depletion of the precursor material, similar to many other achondrite groups. However, despite its compositional similarities to other meteorite groups, our results suggest that this meteorite is unique and unrelated to any other known achondrite group. An origin for NWA 7325 as a sample from the planet Mercury is not supported by the results of our investigation. In particular, the evidence from infrared spectroscopy indicates that a direct relationship between NWA 7325 and the planet Mercury can be ruled out: no acceptable spectral match between laboratory analyses and remote sensing observations from Mercury has been obtained. However, we demonstrate that infrared spectroscopy is a rapid and nondestructive method to characterize mineral phases and thus an excellent tool for planetary surface characterization in space missions. 相似文献

The fall of a meteorite shower in Parambú, Ceará State, Brazil, is described. Parambú is an L-group chondrite (Urey and Craig, 1953). The mineralogical composition is olivine Fa28. ortho- and clinopyroxenes, plagioclase, maskelynite, whitlockite, nickel-iron, troilite, chromite, and ilmenite. The structure of Parambú is characteristically polymict and shows an advanced brecciation. Interesting features of metamorphism are notable, with good evidence of shock. 相似文献

Bocaiuva is a unique meteorite consisting of major metal having a high Ge/Ga ratio and minor (~ 50 mg/g) silicates. The silicates are generally chondritic and consist of major olivine (Fa.7.7) and orthopyroxene (Fs7.6) and minor plagioclase (Ab49, An49) and clinopyroxene (Fs4.5, Wo42). The low alkali content of the silicates is the only property inconsistent with a chondritic composition. Based on metal composition Bocaiuva seems distantly related to certain iron meteorites having similar Ge contents and similar Ge/Ga ratios, but detailed comparison with six such irons shows none to be closely related to Bocaiuva. Perhaps most closely related is Cold Bay, a member of the Eagle-Station trio of pallasites, but its composition is too different to suggest formation on the same parent body. Oxygen-isotope data show that Bocaiuva silicates are closely related to those in the Eagle-Station pallasites and to the CO and CV chondrites. The composition and texture of the Bocaiuva metal-silicate assembly indicate mixing in an impact event. We suggest that the Eagle-Station pallasites were also formed by impact heating rather than by a long-lived internal heat source. 相似文献

The advent of pipeline‐processed data both from space‐ and ground‐based observatories often disposes of the need of full‐fledged data reduction software with its associated steep learning curve. In many cases, a simple tool doing just one task, and doing it right, is all one wishes. In this spirit we introduce CORA, a line fitting tool based on the maximum likelihood technique, which has been developed for the analysis of emission line spectra with low count numbers and has successfully been used in several publications. CORA uses a rigorous application of Poisson statistics. From the assumption of Poissonian noise we derive the probability for a model of the emission line spectrum to represent the measured spectrum. The likelihood function is used as a criterion for optimizing the parameters of the theoretical spectrum and a fixed point equation is derived allowing an efficient way to obtain line fluxes. As an example we demonstrate the functionality of the program with an X‐ray spectrum of Capella obtained with the Low Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer (LETGS) on board the Chandra observatory and choose the analysis of the Ne IX triplet around 13.5 Å. 相似文献

Radar observations of the Leonid meteor shower, made near Ottawa during the years from 1957 to 1968 inclusive, are analyzed and reduced to give comparative flux rates. A strength classification has been made in terms of the ratio of shower rates to background rates. The relative strengths found by radar, showing marked variability from year to year, are confirmed by analysis of available visual observations. There is also great variation in the distribution of particle sizes. The high rates of the 1966 return were accompanied by a relatively high percentage of small particles. In 1965 there was a much higher proportion of large particles, and the high rates of 1961 showed a mass or size distribution intermediate between that of 1966 and of 1965. 相似文献

Based on the high abundance of fine‐grained material and its dark appearance, NWA 11024 was recognized as a CM chondrite, which is also confirmed by oxygen isotope measurements. But contrary to known CM chondrites, the typical phases indicating aqueous alteration (e.g., phyllosilicates, carbonates) are missing. Using multiple analytical techniques, this study reveals the differences and similarities to known CM chondrites and will discuss the possibility that NWA 11024 is the first type 3 CM chondrite. During the investigation, two texturally apparent tochilinite–cronstedtite intergrowths were identified within two thin sections. However, the former phyllosilicates were recrystallized to Fe‐rich olivine during a heating event without changing the textural appearance. A peak temperature of 400–600 °C is estimated, which is not high enough to destroy or recrystallize calcite grains. Thus, calcites were never constituents of the mineral paragenesis. Another remarkable feature of NWA 11024 is the occurrence of unknown clot‐like inclusions (UCLIs) within fine‐grained rims, which are unique in this clarity. Their density and S concentration are significantly higher than of the surrounding fine‐grained rim and UCLIs can be seen as primary objects that were not formed by secondary alteration processes inside the rims. Similarities to chondritic and cometary interplanetary dust particles suggest an ice‐rich first‐generation planetesimal for their origin. In the earliest evolution, NWA 11024 experienced the lowest degree of aqueous alteration of all known CM chondrites and subsequently, a heating event dehydrated the sample. We suggest to classify the meteorite NWA 11024 as the first type 3 CM chondrite similar to the classification of CV3 chondrites (like Allende) that could also have lost their matrix phyllosilicates by thermal dehydration. 相似文献

Spectroscopic investigations of this dwarf nova of Z Camelopardalis type were performed during quiescence and eruption. A periodic long-term modulation of the solar surface rotation with a time scale on the order of 100 years is found in the sunspot data from 1874 to 1992 obtained by combinig the Greenwich Photoheliographic Results from cycle 11 to cycle 20 analysed by Balthasar, Vázquez, and Wöhl and the Mitaka sunspot sketch data from cycle 18 to 22 of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan which was the Tokyo Astronomical Observatory of the University of Tokyo until 1988. A new index of the solar rotation M defined by integrating the angular momentum density over the whole surface, which we call the angular momentum surface layer density, reached a maximum at solar cycle 14, decreased to a minimum at cycle 17, and then increased to reach another maximum at cycle 21. The increase of M means acceleration of the surface layer as a whole by transport of angular momentum from the deeper layer. This implies an decrease (increase) of the radial gradient of the differential rotation if the basic radial gradient of the differential rotation increases (decreaes) inward. The decrease of M means deceleration of the surface layer and implies an increase (decrease) of the radial gradient. The degree of the equatorial acceleration of the surface differential rotation is also found to have undergone the same 100 year periodic modulation during the same interval, reaching a minimum at cycle 14, a maximum at cycle 17, and a minimum at cycle 21 in antiphase with the modulation of M. Thus both radial and latitudinal gradients of the differential rotation increased and decreased in phase (in anti-phase) if the basic radial gradient increases (decreases) inward. 相似文献
