We describe an automated method for assigning the most likely physical parameters to the components of an eclipsing binary (EB), using only its photometric light curve and combined color. In traditional methods (e.g. WD and EBOP) one attempts to optimize a multi-parameter model over many iterations, so as to minimize the chi-squared value. We suggest an alternative method, where one selects pairs of coeval stars from a set of theoretical stellar models, and compares their simulated light curves and combined colors with the observations. This approach greatly reduces the EB parameter-space over which one needs to search, and allows one to determine the components' masses, radii and absolute magnitudes, without spectroscopic data. We have implemented this method in an automated program using published theoretical isochrones and limb-darkening coefficients. Since it is easy to automate, this method lends itself to systematic analyses of datasets consisting of photometric time series of large numbers of stars, such as those produced by OGLE, MACHO, TrES, HAT, and many others surveys.  相似文献

In this paper, we analyze photometry of V504 Cyg semi-detached binary system. For this purpose, after taking the photometric data, primary and secondary minimum and new epoch were calculated. The period of system is found to be 0.3516916 day. Analysis of light curve was performed by PHOEBE software which uses last version of Wilson–Devinney code. 3D model of the system is worked out using Binary Maker software. The O’Connell effect in the light curve is observed and an accurate model of this system is presented by introducing four spots on the components.  相似文献

We describe a spectroscopic survey designed to uncover an estimated ∼40 AM Canum Venaticorum (AM CVn) stars hiding in the photometric data base of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We have constructed a relatively small sample of about 1500 candidates based on a colour selection, which should contain the majority of all AM CVn binaries while remaining small enough that spectroscopic identification of the full sample is feasible.
We present the first new AM CVn star discovered using this strategy, SDSS J080449.49+161624.8, the ultracompact binary nature of which is demonstrated using high-time-resolution spectroscopy obtained with the Magellan telescopes at Las Campanas Observatory, Chile. A kinematic 'S-wave' feature is observed on a period   P orb= 44.5 ± 0.1 min  , which we propose is the orbital period, although the present data cannot yet exclude its nearest daily aliases.
The new AM CVn star shows a peculiar spectrum of broad, single-peaked helium emission lines with unusually strong series of ionized helium, reminiscent of the (intermediate) polars among the hydrogen-rich cataclysmic variables. We speculate that SDSS J0804+1616 may be the first magnetic AM CVn star. The accreted material appears to be enriched in nitrogen, to N/O ≳ 10 and N/C > 10 by number, indicating CNO cycle hydrogen burning, but no helium burning, in the prior evolution of the donor star.  相似文献

The development of principles, systems, and instruments enable the detection of exoplanets with 6–8 Earth masses or less. The launches of specialized satellites, such as CoRoT (2006) and Kepler (2009), into orbits around the Earth have enabled the discovery of new exoplanetary systems. These missions are searching for relatively low-mass planets by observing their transits over the disks of their parent stars. At the same time, supporting studies of exoplanets using ground-based facilities (that measure Keplerian components of radial velocities) are in progress. The properties of at least two objects discovered by different methods, Kepler-22 and GJ 1214b, suggested that there was another class of celestial bodies among the known types of extrasolar planets: planetans, or oceanic planets. The structure of Kepler-22 and GJ 1214b suggest that they can be these oceanic planets. In this paper, we consider to what extent this statement is valid. The consideration of exoplanet Gl 581g as an oceanic planet is more feasible. Some specific features of the physical nature of these unusual planets are presented.  相似文献

GJ 569Bab is the first brown dwarf binary for which the mass of each component has been derived by solving the astrometric and spectroscopic orbit of the pair, i.e., independently of any theoretical assumption. This allows us to test the predictions of the various evolutionary models available in the literature. Particularly interesting are the predictions of lithium depletion for the mass (0.08–0.05M) and likely age (300–800 Myr) of the substellar components. High‐resolution optical spectra of GJ 569B (the pair is not resolved) obtained with HIRES at the Keck telescope show that there has been significant lithium depletion in both components. We discuss the orbital elements of the multiple system Tr 16-104 which is usually believed to be a member of the open cluster Trumpler 16 in the Carina complex. We show that Tr 16-104 could be a hierarchical triple system consisting of a short-period (2.15 d) eclipsing O7 V+O9.5 V binary bound to a B0.2 IV star. Our preliminary orbital solution of the third body indicates that the B star most probably describes an eccentric orbit with a period of ∼285 or ∼1341 d around the close binary. Folding photometric data from the literature with our new ephemerides, we find that the light curve of the close binary exhibits rather narrow eclipses indicating that the two O stars must be well inside their Roche lobes. Our analysis of the photometric data yields a lower limit on the inclination of the orbit of the close binary of i ≥77° . The stellar radii and luminosities of the O7 V and O9.5 V stars are significantly smaller than expected for stars of this spectral type. Our results suggest that Tr 16-104 lies at a distance of the order of 2.5 kpc and support a fainter absolute magnitude for zero-age main-sequence O stars than usually adopted. We find that the dynamical configuration of Tr 16-104 corresponds to a hierarchical system that should remain stable provided that it suffers no strong perturbation. Finally, we also report long-term temporal variations of high-velocity interstellar Ca  ii absorptions in the line of sight towards Tr 16-104.  相似文献

In this study, we have performed simultaneous solutions of light and radial velocity curves of two eclipsing binary systems, V566 Oph and V972 Her. We observed both systems spectroscopically with a very recently installed spectrograph on the 40 cm telescope, T40, located in Ankara University Kreiken Observatory (AUKR), for the first time. We made use of the photometric data from the Hipparcos satellite for V972 Her, while we obtained the photometric observations of V566 Oph by using the 35 cm telescope, T35, located also in our observatory campus. We derived the absolute parameters for both systems and discussed their evolutionary states. In addition to the simultaneous analysis, we have also analyzed the change in mid-eclipse times for V566 Oph, and found cyclic variations, for which we have discussed light-time effect and magnetic activity as their potential origin, superimposed on a secular change due to a mass transfer between the components of the binary.  相似文献

Although magnetic fields have been discovered in ten massive O‐type stars during the last years, the origin of their magnetic fields remains unknown. Among the magnetic O‐type stars, two stars, HD 36879 and HD 57682, were identified as candidate runaway stars in the past, and θ1 Ori C was reported to move rapidly away from its host cluster. We search for an explanation for the occurrence of magnetic fields in O‐type stars by examining the assumption of their runaway status. We use the currently best available astrometric, spectroscopic, and photometric data to calculate the kinematical status of seven magnetic O‐type stars with previously unknown space velocities. The results of the calculations of space velocities suggest that five out of the seven magnetic O‐type stars can be considered as candidate runaway stars. Only two stars, HD 155806 and HD 164794, with the lowest space velocities, are likely members of Sco OB4 and NGC 6530, respectively. However, the non‐thermal radio emitter HD 164794 is a binary system with colliding winds, for which the detected magnetic field has probably a different origin in comparison to other magnetic O‐type stars (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We present a detailed, extensive investigation of the photometric and spectroscopic behaviour of WR 30a. This star is definitely a binary system with a period around 4.6 d. We propose the value         . The identification of the components as WO4+O5((f)) indicates a massive evolved binary system; the O5 component is a main-sequence or, more likely, a giant star. The radial velocities of the O star yield a circular orbit with an amplitude         and a mass function of 0.013     . The spectrum of WR 30a exhibits strong profile variations of the broad emission lines that are phase-locked with the orbital period. We report the detection of the orbital motion of the WO component with     , but this should be confirmed by further observations. If correct, it implies a mass ratio     . The star exhibits sinusoidal light variations of amplitude 0.024 mag peak-to-peak with the minimum of light occurring slightly after the conjunction with the O star in front. On the basis of the phase-locked profile variations of the C  iv λ 4658 blend in the spectrum of the WO, we conclude that a wind–wind collision phenomenon is present in the system. We discuss some possibilities for the geometry of the interaction region.  相似文献

The long period classical cepheid RZ Vel (HD 73502) is known to be a member of an OB association, Vel OB1 in Vela, and a high metallicity is ascribed to it by the photometric work of Eggen (1982). We have done an abundance analysis for this long period (P = 20.4 days) and hence young (age ≈ 1.80×107 yr) classical cepheid using high resolution CCD spectra with good S/N ratio. We have used a detailed model atmosphere method to derive the abundances of the light elements C, O, A1, S and of many Fe-peak elements and a few s-process elements. Our present work indicates near solar abundance for most of the elements for RZ Vel and hence we do not confirm the high metallicity derived photometrically by Eggen (1982) for this star  相似文献

Using a magnetograph, we examine four sunspots for evidence of a magnetic canopy at the penumbra/photosphere boundary. The penumbral edge is determined from the photometric intensity and is defined to correspond to the value of the average intensity minus twice the standard deviation from the average. From a comparison of the location of this boundary with the location of contours of the vertical and horizontal components of the magnetic field, we conclude that the data are best represented by canopy-type fields close to all four sunspots. There is some evidence that the magnetic inclination in the canopies is 5°–15° with respect to the horizontal and that the canopy base height lies in the middle/upper photosphere. The observations further suggest that the magnetic canopy of a sunspot begins at its outer penumbral boundary.  相似文献

We conducted photometric and spectroscopic observations of Ross 15 in order to further study the flare properties of this less observed flare star.A total of 28 B-band flares are detected in 128 hr of photometric observations,leading to a total flare rate of 0.22-0.040.04 h-1,more accurate than that provided by previous work.We give the energy range of the B-band flare(1029.5-1031.5 erg) and the flare frequency distribution(FFD) for the star.Within the same energy range,the FFD is lower than that of GJ 1243(M4)and YZ CMi(M4.5),roughly in the middle of those of three M5-type stars and higher than the average FFDs of spectral types> M6.We performed,for the first time for Ross 15,simultaneous high-cadence spectroscopic and photometric observations,resulting in detection of the most energetic flare in our sample.The intensity enhancements of the continuum and Balmer lines with significant correlations between them are detected during the flare,which is the same as those of other deeply studied flare stars with similar spectral type.  相似文献

We present new CCD photometric observations of V1044 Her obtained on May 22, 23 and 24, 2015. From our data, we derived five new light curve minimum times. Combining our new results with previously available CCD light minimum times, we derived an updated ephemeris and discovered that the period of this binary system exhibits an oscillation. The cyclic variation may be caused by the light-time effect via the presence of a third body or magnetic activity cycle. We calculated the corresponding period of the third body to be 14.1 ± 1.4 years or magnetic cycle to be 12.2 ± 0.7 years. We analyzed our new asymmetric light curves to obtain photometric solutions and starspot parameters using the Wilson and Devinney program. The final results show that V1044 Her is a contact binary system with a degree of contact factor f = 3.220( ± 0.002)%.  相似文献

With the 2013 version of W-D code, we derived the photometric solutions for the new discovered extremely short-period eclipsing binary 1SWASP J024148.62+372848.3 based on its complete RIc light curves. The results show that the system is a W-type overcontact system with a filling-out factor of 23% and a mass ratio of q = 1.23, thus it is a new target which belongs to the rare group of overcontact binary with period under the short period limit (0.22 days). The obviously asymmetries found in its light curves could be explained well by the high spots coverage on the two components which have strong magnetic activities due to their late type nature. A third light contributing about 40% of the total light has been detected during the light curve analysis. This additional component may play an important role in the formation of 1SWASP J024148.62+372848.3, just like those in other overcontact binaries below the limit.  相似文献

Observations of the chemically peculiar star HD 27404 with the 6-m SAO RAS telescope showed a strong magnetic field with the longitudinal field component varying in a complicated way in the range of ?2.5 to 1 kG. Fundamental parameters of the star (Teff = 11 300 K, log g = 3.9) were estimated analyzing photometric indices in the Geneva and in the Stro¨ mgren–Crawford photometric systems. We detected weak radial velocity variations which can be due to the presence of a close star companion or chemical spots in the photosphere. Rapid estimation of the key chemical element abundance allows us to refer HD 27404 to a SiCr or Si+ chemically peculiar A0–B9 star.  相似文献

Photometric observations of comet C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp) carried out at the Stará Lesná Observatory since February to April 1997 are analyzed and discussed. Emission band fluxes and continuum fluxes are presented, from which the total numbers of molecules in the columns of the coma encircled by diaphragms are calculated. The production rates are estimated from the conventional Haser model. We found that the photometric exponent of dust contribution two months prior perihelion was n = 5.2. The photometric exponent n of the cometary magnitude solely to the C2 emission alone equals 3.3 and that of CN equals 2.5. These values can be explained by a fact that the maximums of production rates of the gases were reached between March 2and 12 and not at the perihelion as it is valid for dust. These results are compared with the values of 1P/Halley (1986 III) under the similar conditions, obtained with the same method and instrument. C/Hale-Bopp exhibited 4.1 times more molecules radiating the CN-emission than 1P/Halley in the same column of the coma. The continuum flux of C/Hale-Bopp was also very strong. The ratios (to 1P/Halley) are 94:1 (Cont. 484.5) and 74:1 (Cont. 365.0). The cometary colour was the same as that of the Sun. A review of selected photometric and spectrophotometric properties of magnetic stars is given. It is shown that unreddened B–V of magnetic stars around B9 type can be transformed to log Te using the calibration for normal stars and no systematic errors are introduced. Mechanisms of light variability are discussed. It is concluded that different mechanisms must be operating in different stars. Recently obtained photometric observations of short-period variability by KURTZ and Hβ variability by MADEJ et al. are discussed. An information about internal structure and the atmospheric structure of these stars can be derived from these observations.  相似文献

Optical photometric observations at the I and R wavebands were carried out towards Mkn501 using the 1.56 meter optical telescope of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory at Sheshan. Combining our new observations with the published historical data, we have obtained the light curves of Mkn501 at the optical, infrared and radio wavebands with a time coverage of nearly 80 years. The relationship between the light variability and the color index is discussed, it is found that a strong correlation exists between the color indices (BV) and (BR), with the correlation coefficient reaching r = 0.73. The correlations of multi-band light variabilities are analyzed by the DCF method, it is found that certain positive correlations of B-band light variability with the 4.8 GHz and infrared light variabilities exist. And the spectral analysis on the B-band light curve with the CLEANest method indicates that the light curve of Mkn501 contains probably two periodical components of (10.06 ± 0.04) yr and (21.60 ± 0.17) yr.  相似文献

We present first results of the photometric and spectroscopic investigation of the B1/B2 Herbig star HD52721 performed in 2009–2010 at three observatories: Mountain Astronomical Station (Kislovodsk)—photometry, CrAO (Crimea, Ukraine)—spectroscopy, Observatory San Pedro Martyr (Ensenada, Mexico)—high-resolution echelle-spectroscopy. We have also used photometric data from the ASAS survey for 2003–2009. Our analysis has shown that a) the object is a close binary system with the orbital period of 1.610 days composed of two components of similar spectral type (B1–B2); b) the system is surrounded by the common disk-like envelope containing azimuthal inhomogeneity rotating with the orbital period of the system. We present preliminary estimates of the system parameters and discuss its possible nature.  相似文献

SuperWASPJ222302.02+195031.8 is an eclipsing binary with an orbital period about 0.22517657 days that is close to the short-period limit of contact binaries. Multi-color photometric light curves of the short-period binary in B, V, Rc and Ic bands are presented and analyzed by using the Wilson–Devinney (W–D) method. It is discovered that the system is a semi-detached binary where the secondary component is already filling the critical Roche lobe, while the primary is filling just 77.1% of its Roche lobe. The temperature of the primary is about 4300 K, and the temperature difference between the two components is about 500 K. The asymmetries in the light curves are explained by the coverage of stellar dark spots on the less massive component via magnetic activity. An analysis of all available eclipse times suggests that there are no any changes in the O-C diagram. This may indicate that there are no mass transfers between the two components. The semi-detached configuration with the dark spot on the surface of the lobe-filling secondary and no variations in the orbital period make the binary an interesting target for further investigations.  相似文献
