The common representation of frequency spectra in meteorology and climatology is discussed. It is pointed out that this representation is misleading since spectral peaks and spectral gaps are obtained even when the spectrum density is monotonously decreasing in the whole frequency range. A plea is made for using the spectrum distribution function, F() which gives an unambiguous picture of the distribution of variance with frequency. 相似文献

偏微分方程的近似解法都是用一个有限个自由度的系统来代替原来的连续介质系统。在步长为有限值(而非无穷小)情况下的计算稳定性、计算紊乱及计算准确度问题是个有实际重要性问题。本文从物理方面入手讨论这些问题,指出计算紊乱现象或计算不稳定现象是由三种机理造成的:频散效应、能谱非线性转移效应及能量增长效应;指出利用能量守恒方程及正交展开法对于克服计算紊乱现象和提高计算准确度来说可能是较好的。还特别讨论了原始方程的计算困难问题,指出非线性项的计算误差常能激发出强烈的短波长的快波,这是造成计算紊乱的最重要方面。 相似文献

We consider the structure of the stable boundary layer using the concept of local scaling. In this scaling approach turbulence variables, non-dimensionalized with measurements taken at the same height, can be expressed as a function of a single parameter z/, where z is the height and a local Obukhov length. One of the consequences is that locally scaled variables become constant above the surface layer. This behavior is illustrated with observations of the Richardson number. With local scaling as a closure hypothesis we then formulate a model of the stable boundary layer. Its solution for steady-state conditions is given. One result we obtain is the well-known Zilitinkevich equation for the boundary-layer height. A comparison of this equation with observations results in a reasonable agreement. Also we discuss some alternative expressions for the stable boundary-layer height and compare them with observations. Another result of our model is an explicit profile for the K-coefficient as a quadratic function of height. We discuss the consequences of this expression for the dispersion of a point source emission. We find that the time scale of diffusion in this case is about 5 hours. 相似文献

It is generally believed by those undertaking research in the fundamental aspects of geophysical fluid dynamics and meteorology that their results contribute to the improvements to numerical weather prediction and in practical weather forecasting. However, the techniques whereby the appropriate research results are selected and incorporated into the numerical models are not widely known, particularly the methods for representing the phenomena whose horizontal scale is less than that of the grid boxes.(say, 50 km). Some accounts of numerical weather prediction imply that the representation of subgrid-scale phenomena is formally similar to classical physics. In fact, atmospheric motions on these scales are not like molecular motions in an ideal gas, but show considerable structure, approximating to combinations of various idealized states. Great skill and experience in this specialized activity has been applied to deciding on these states, finding physical criteria for defining them and then modelling the relevant phenomena occurring on this scale. In this paper, we focus on a restricted range of phenomena associated with stably stratified flows, notably mountain waves, convection and clouds, and boundary layer phenomena. This category provides many examples of structures which need to be considered in detail to reconstruct the large-scale picture accurately, as well as in local forecasting. 相似文献

An improved non-stationary two-layer model is presented for the simulation of wind speed maxima in the nocturnal boundary
layer. The model is based on the idea of Blackadar (1957), who proposed as forcing mechanism an inertial oscillation of the
ageostrophic component of the wind vector in the levels above the top of the nocturnal radiation inversion. First, the time-dependent
variation of the nocturnal boundary-layer height is studied by means of prognostic equations; there is a good agreement between
observed and calculated height data for three days of the Wangara experiment. Furthermore, a diurnal variation of the drag
coefficient is considered in the lower layer by decreasing the coefficient by a factor of 10–20 due to stabilization of this
layer during the night. The marked temporal decrease (increase) of the drag coefficient in the first hours after sunset (sunrise)
is described by a function
. The incorporation of these two effects into the model gives results which are in good agreement with observed wind data

中国数十年来在城市气象研究这一新兴学科领域开展了大量研究并获得了多方面的丰硕成果。文中从城市气象观测网与观测试验、城市气象多尺度模式、城市气象与大气环境相互影响、城市化对天气气候的影响等4个方面论述了城市气象的主要研究进展:中国各大城市已建立或正在完善具有多平台、多变量、多尺度、多重链接、多功能等特点的城市气象综合观测网;北京、南京、上海等地开展了大型城市气象观测科学试验,被世界气象组织列入研究示范项目;成功开展了风洞实验、缩尺度外场实验研究;建立了多尺度城市气象和空气质量预报数值模式,并应用于业务;在城市热岛效应、城市对降水影响、城市气象与城市规划、城市化对区域气候及空气质量的影响、城市气象与大气环境相互作用等研究领域取得长足进展。最后指出,未来需要重点从新观测技术及观测资料同化应用、城市系统模式研究、城市化对天气气候的影响机理、城市化对大气环境和人体健康的影响、城市水文气象气候与环境综合服务等方面开展科学研究与应用,为中国城市化、生态文明建设、防灾减灾和应对气候变化等国家需求提供科技支撑。 相似文献

Abstract Values of incoming solar and long‐wave radiation measured at the vessel Quadra during the three phases of GATE are used to assess the daily performance of three models, one for solar and two for long‐wave radiation. The solar radiation model, which uses data on precipitable water and cloud amount at three levels in the atmosphere performed satisfactorily during the first phase but gave poor results in the other two phases when cumulonimbus became more dominant. Both the flux‐emissivity approach using measured and interpolated Upper air data and Paltridge's empirical procedure produced estimates of long‐wave radiation which compared very closely with the measurements. 相似文献

Summary Some aspects of internal gravity waves in the multicell-type convective system are examined using a linear theory and a nonlinear numerical model. The basic-state wind is assumed to increase linearly with height and then remain constant.In the theoretical part, the two-dimensional, linear, steady-state response of a stably stratified atmosphere to specified cooling representing the evaporative cooling of falling precipitation in the subcloud layer is analytically considered. It is shown that there exist an updraft on the upstream side of the cooling and a downdraft on the downstream side. As the wind shear increases enough, the magnitude of the updraft decreases. This is because a large portion of the specified cooling is used to compensate for the positive vorticity associated with the positive wind shear and accordingly the effective cooling necessary to produce perturbations is reduced.In the numerical part, a two-dimensional version of the ARPS (Advanced Regional Prediction System) that is a nonhydrostatic, compressible model with detailed physical processes is employed. Results from the dry simulation, in which the steady cooling is specified in the model, show that the simulated quasi-steady field resembles the linear, steady-state solution field because the nonlinearity factor of thermally-induced waves in this case is small. For the moist simulation, the quasi-steady perturbations obtained from the dry simulation are used as initial conditions. It is shown that gravity waces can effectively initiate convection even with small amplitude and that updraft at the head of the density current somewhat resembles the linear, steady-state response of a stably straified flow to the specified cooling. The updraft, that is, forced internal gravity waves, at the head of the density current is responsible for the initiation of consecutive convective cells that move downstream and develop as a main convective cell. This study suggests that internal gravity waves play a major role in the initiation of consecutive convective cells in the multicell-type convective system and hence in its maintenance. 相似文献

Summary In order to be able to account for non-adiabatic effects on atmospheric processes, the space and time distributions of actual values of the radiation balance must be known in the atmosphere and at its boundaries. As for synoptic data, the representativeness of radiation data is an essential requirement.

Gleich wie für die synoptischen Daten müssen auch die auf die Strahlung bezüglichen Angaben repräsentativ sein.
Résumé Si l'on veut tenir compte des effets non-adiabatiques sur les processus atmosphériques, il est indispensable de connaître la répartition spatiotemporelle du bilan radiatif dans l'atmosphère et le long de ses frontières. Tout comme pour les données synoptiques, les données relatives au rayonnement doivent être représentatives des grandeurs météorologiques mesurées.
