Long, structurally undeformed north–south trending structures show no magnetic anomaly at the magnetic equator, except at the north and south truncations of the structure. However, folding, faulting, differential erosion or other structural deformation can produce detectable magnetic anomalies in a generally north–south trending equatorial structure. Spatial variation in magnetic susceptibility or remanent magnetization can also produce anomalies in equatorial north–south structures. These anomaly patterns are often more complicated than patterns produced by similar structures at high latitudes, but interpretational insight can be gained through numerical modelling of common structures. Reduction-to-pole and analytic signal filters can aid in interpretation of equatorial anomalies, but these must be applied carefully because of instabilities deriving from filter design and noise amplification.  相似文献

Jupiter's field is strongly dipolar but with relatively large high order moments compared to the Earth's. In situ magnetic field data allow us to interpret most of the Earth-based microwave observations of Jupiter, with the exception of Branson's hot spot. Decametric emissions have a complex rotational pattern which has been stable since 1950; their agreement with the spacecraft magnetic fields is much less satisfactory than that of the microwaves. We conclude that the extrapolation of magnetic fields from the spacecraft to the surface of Jupiter is in error by 40% in the Southern Hemisphere.Saturn's radio emissions show complexities similar to Jupiter's. They are strongly asymmetric about the rotational axis, although Saturn's Field is nearly axisymmetric. Their strong asymmetry suggests strong longitudinal variations in the magnetic field a few thousand kilometers from the cloud tops, in conflict with the field measured aboard Pioneer 11.The magnetic fields within a few thousand kilometers of either Jupiter's or Saturn's cloud tops are probably unknown. It is discouraging that more is not known about the fields after a total of 7 encounters. Perhaps the Galileo probe can test usefully models of the Jupiter field, even if its measurements refer to just one trajectory through the clouds. An arguable case can be made that the giant planets exhibit complexity of magnetic structure similar to the Sun.  相似文献

The advantages of the approximation of the Earth's magnetic field by means of the field of the so-called natural magnetic sources are discussed. The shifting of these natural magnetic sources, determined for different epochs, is used to forecast the Earth's magnetic field and to draw conclusions about the motion of the corresponding part of the Earth. Three‐component borehole magnetics provide important additional information compared to total field or horizontal and vertical measurements. These data can be used for several tasks such as the localization of ferromagnetic objects, the determination of apparent polar wander curves and the computation of the magnetization of rock units. However, the crucial point in three‐component borehole magnetics is the reorientation of the measured data from the tool's frame to the geographic reference frame North, East and Downwards. For this purpose, our tool, the Göttinger Borehole Magnetometer, comprises three orthogonally aligned fibre optic gyros along with three fluxgate sensors. With these sensors, the vector of the magnetic field along with the tool rotation can be recorded continuously during the measurement. Using the high–precision gyro data, we can compute the vector of the magnetic anomaly with respect to the Earth's reference frame. Based on the comparison of several logs measured in the Outokumpu Deep Drill Hole (OKU R2500, Finland), the repeatability of the magnetic field vector is 0.8° in azimuthal direction, 0.08° in inclination and 71 nT in magnitude.  相似文献

Early in the history of planetary evolution portions of Martian crust became magnetized by dynamo-generated magnetic field. A lateral distribution of the secondary magnetic field generated by crustal remanent sources containing magnetic carriers of certain grain size and mineralogy is able to produce an ambient magnetic field of larger intensity than preexisting dynamo. This ambient field is capable of magnetizing portions of deeper crust that cools through its blocking temperatures in an absence of dynamo. We consider both magnetite (Fe3O4) and hematite (α-Fe2O3) as minerals contributing to the overall magnetization. Analysis of magnetization of magnetic minerals of various grain size and concentration reveals that magnetite grains less than 0.01 mm in size, and hematite grains larger than 0.01 mm in size can become effective magnetic source capable of magnetizing magnetic minerals contained in surrounding volume. Preexisting crustal remanence (for example ∼250 A/m relates to 25% of multi-domain hematite) can trigger a self-magnetizing process that can continue in the absence of magnetic dynamo and continue strengthening and/or weakening magnetic anomalies on Mars. Thickness of the primary magnetic layer and concentration of magnetic carriers allow specification of the temperature gradient required to trigger a self-magnetization process.  相似文献

磁梯度张量系统姿态的变化将影响梯度场测量和数据解释的精度,使得具有坐标变换不变性特点的张量不变量成为磁梯度张量数据解释的研究热点.本文在对磁偶极子产生的磁梯度张量进行特征值分析的基础上得到了:测量点与磁偶极子位置形成的位置矢量、磁偶极子磁矩矢量与绝对值最小的特征值对应的特征向量垂直;位置矢量和磁矩矢量与最大及最小特征值对应的特征向量共面,且两矢量间的夹角可由磁梯度张量矩阵的特征值表示.最后,将本文所得磁偶极子梯度张量的几何不变量用于磁性目标的跟踪中,取得了较好的实时跟踪效果.  相似文献

The magnetic susceptibility of the Helvetic Jurassic black shales, sampled around the Aar and Gothard massifs in the Swiss Alps, is due to iron-bearing silicates, magnetite or pyrrhotite. It exhibits a clear correlation with the Alpine metamorphism, from zeolite to amphibolite facies: it firstly decreases due to the breakdown of original magnetite, then sharply increases when pyrite is transformed into magnetic pyrrhotite. Using numerous field measurements of the susceptibility it was possible to carry out a fast and precise mapping of the pyrrhotite-in isograde, which appears to correspond closely to the stilpnomelane-out isograde. The matrix susceptibility, obtained by means of high-field measurements with a cryogenic magnetometer, is due to iron-bearing silicates and shows only smooth variations with metamorphism. Both monoclinic and hexagonal pyrrhotites are observed in the high-grade area.  相似文献

A new method for the calculation of the depth, location, and dip of thin dykes from pole‐reduced magnetic data is introduced. The depth can be obtained by measuring the distance between chosen values of a tilt angle that is based upon the ratio of the magnetic field and its Hilbert transform over the dyke. Alternatively, it can be obtained from the horizontal derivative of the ratio of the Hilbert transform of the field to the field itself, over the dyke. The latter method also allows the dip of the dyke to be estimated from the gradient of the depth estimates.  相似文献

We present a new integrated approach to the interpretation of magnetic basement that is based on recognition of characteristic patterns in distributions and alignments of magnetic source depth solutions above and below the surface of magnetic basement. This approach integrates a quantitative analysis of depth solutions, obtained by 2D Werner deconvolution of the magnetic data, with a qualitative evaluation of the Bouguer gravity anomalies. The crystalline/metamorphic basement and sedimentary cover have different origins, tectonic histories, lithologies and magnetic properties. These differences result in different geometries of magnetic sources associated with faults, fracture zones, igneous intrusions, erosional truncations, subcrop edges and other structural discontinuities. Properly tuned, 2D Werner deconvolution is able to resolve the intra‐sedimentary and intra‐basement magnetic source geometries into distinctly different distributions and alignments of calculated depth solutions. An empirical set of criteria, basement indicators, was developed for identification and correlation of the basement surface. The ambiguity of basement correlation with limited or non‐existent well control, which is common for onshore frontier and offshore explorations, can be reduced by incorporating the Bouguer gravity data into the process of correlation.  相似文献

A program for identifying magnetic clouds in patrol satellite data, which recorded the interplanetary medium parameters near the magnetosphere, has been developed based on the cloud model in the form of a force-free cylindrical flux tube. The program makes it possible to also determine the entire magnetic field distribution in a cloud that approaches the Earth, using the initial satellite measurements. For this purpose, a model cloud (which has the maximal correlation coefficient with an analyzed cloud with respect to three magnetic field vector components and minimal rms deviations of the magnetic field and velocity components) is selected from the preliminarily created database including 2 million model clouds. The obtained magnetic field distribution in a cloud will make it possible to predict the intensity of a magnetic storm that this cloud will cause.  相似文献

We study the appraisal problem for the joint inversion of seismic and controlled source electro‐magnetic (CSEM) data and utilize rock‐physics models to integrate these two disparate data sets. The appraisal problem is solved by adopting a Bayesian model and we incorporate four representative sources of uncertainty. These are uncertainties in 1) seismic wave velocity, 2) electric conductivity, 3) seismic data and 4) CSEM data. The uncertainties in porosity and water saturation are quantified by a posterior random sampling in the model space of porosity and water saturation in a marine one‐dimensional structure. We study the relative contributions from the four individual sources of uncertainty by performing several statistical experiments. The uncertainties in the seismic wave velocity and electric conductivity play a more significant role on the variation of posterior uncertainty than do the seismic and CSEM data noise. The numerical simulations also show that the uncertainty in porosity is most affected by the uncertainty in the seismic wave velocity and that the uncertainty in water saturation is most influenced by the uncertainty in electric conductivity. The framework of the uncertainty analysis presented in this study can be utilized to effectively reduce the uncertainty of the porosity and water saturation derived from the integration of seismic and CSEM data.  相似文献

利用磁梯度张量反演磁性目标参数的方法广泛应用于是磁性目标定位,本文提出了一种通过测量两点磁梯度张量对磁性目标进行在线定位的方法.首先利用磁矩指向相同的原则从张量方程的解中得到目标方向,其次利用参数之间的线性关系解算出目标距离,最后利用两点磁感应强度之差,结合Levenberg-Marquardt优化算法对距离做进一步修正.基于所设计的两点张量测量阵列的仿真实验表明:(1)在相同条件下,本文方法定位成功率为64.24%,而2015年吕俊伟改进的STAR方法为59.85%;(2)仪器测量噪声强度达到某一阈值时,一定区域内定位成功率随噪声强度的增加迅速下降;(3)优化算法迭代次数上限取10次即可;(4)其他条件不变时,随着基线长度的增加,定位成功率先升高后降低.  相似文献

This paper presents the results from a study designed to investigate the ability of a newly developed neural network (NN) based model to follow total electron content (TEC) dynamics over the Southern African region. The investigation is carried out by comparing results from the NN model with actual TEC data derived from Global Positioning System (GPS) observations and TEC values predicted by the International Reference Ionosphere (IRI-2007) model during magnetic storm periods over Southern Africa. The magnetic storm conditions chosen for the study presented in this paper occurred during the periods 16–21 April 2002, 1–6 October 2002, and 28 October–01 November 2003. A total of six South African GPS stations were used for the validation of the two models during these periods. A statistical analysis of the comparison between the actual TEC behaviour and that predicted by the two models is shown. In addition, ionosonde measurements from the South African Louisvale (28.5°S, 21.2°E) station, located close to one of the validation GPS stations used, are also considered during the Halloween storm period of 28–31 October 2003. The generalisation of TEC behaviour by the NN model is demonstrated by producing predicted TEC maps during magnetic storm periods over South Africa. Presented results demonstrate the ability of NNs in predicting TEC variability over South Africa during magnetically disturbed conditions, and highlight areas for improvement.  相似文献
