Continuous measurements of solar spectral radiation using the Multi-filter Rotating Shadow Band Radiometer (MFRSR) are performed at the Actinometric Station of the National Observatory of Athens (ASNOA). The present study utilizes three clear-sky days of continuous observations, from local sunrise to local sunset, in order to investigate the daily variation of the radiation components (diffuse, global and direct-beam) as well as their ratios (diffuse-to-global, DGR, and diffuse-to-direct-beam, DDR) under different atmospheric conditions. Both ratios have received great scientific interest, especially for investigating solar irradiance modifications under various atmospheric conditions, aerosol load and optical properties. Apart from this, the present study shows that the DDR can constitute a measure of atmospheric turbidity when it is determined at longer wavelengths, while the DGR cannot. The effect of the solar zenith angle (SZA) on both ratios is significant at the shorter wavelengths with varying sensitivities depending on the aerosol field and sun elevation. The present study confirms the results obtained by previous solar irradiance measurements in Athens and also those computed via radiative transfer codes and sheds light on the scientific knowledge of the use of spectral DDR as an atmospheric turbidity index. 相似文献

The reference spectral noise ratio method to evaluate the seismic response of a site 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The seismic response of several sites in the Durban area of South Africa has been investigated using a refined version of the spectral ratio (H/V) generated by cultural seismic noise. Two samples of noise separated by an interval of several minutes for the vertical and the two orthogonal horizontal components were taken at each site. Though the two samples differed noticeably in the time as well as in the frequency domain, when the components are considered separately, the ratios of the horizontal to the vertical spectra were very similar for most of the pairs. This similitude was obvious not only in the frequencies of the peaks, but also in the range of amplifications involved. These observations have been used to introduce a refinement to the Nakamura Method. This refinement consists in using as a reference the H/V spectral ratio of a well-known, hard rock site. All the other soft sites of interest are then compared with this standard reference site. This comparison provides valuable information on the frequencies and amplification factors introduced by the critical soft sediments. This refined method will be referred here as the ‘Reference spectral noise ratio’.This method, is compared to a similar one devised to investigate the response of horizontal layers to longitudinal seismic waves, using the ratio of the spectra generated by long- period waves. 相似文献

The magnetotelluric method employs co‐located surface measurements of electric and magnetic fields to infer the local electrical structure of the earth. The frequency dependent ‘apparent resistivity’ curves can be inaccurate at long periods if input data are contaminated – even when robust remote reference techniques are employed. Data despiking prior to processing can result in significantly more reliable estimates of long period apparent resistivities. This paper outlines a two‐step method of automatic identification and replacement for spike‐like contamination of magnetotelluric data; based on the simultaneity of natural electric and magnetic field variations at distant sites. This simultaneity is exploited both to identify windows in time when the array data are compromised as well as to generate synthetic data that replace observed transient noise spikes. In the first step windows in data time series that contain spikes are identified according to an intersite comparison of channel ‘activity’– such as the variance of differenced data within each window. In the second step, plausible data for replacement of flagged windows are calculated by Wiener filtering coincident data in clean channels. The Wiener filters – which express the time‐domain relationship between various array channels – are computed using an uncontaminated segment of array training data. Examples are shown where the algorithm is applied to artificially contaminated data and to real field data. In both cases all spikes are successfully identified. In the case of implanted artificial noise, the synthetic replacement time series are very similar to the original recording. In all cases, apparent resistivity and phase curves obtained by processing the despiked data are much improved over curves obtained from raw data. 相似文献

The authors apply soil response estimation techniques employing accelerograms for fifteen earthquakes recorded at the Yokohama Strong Motion Network and its vertical array of nine sites, plus microtremor data recorded at all 150 sites. Assessment of the reliability of surface to reference site spectral ratios, and horizontal to vertical spectral ratios of S‐waves, coda, and microtremors, relied on cross‐validation with both surface to borehole spectral ratios, and theoretical soil response functions for vertically incident SH plane waves calculated from the vertical array recordings and logging data, respectively. The results indicate the following: (1) the reference site method provides more accurate soil response estimations; (2) the H/V of microtremors provides relatively better soil response estimations than its S‐wave and coda counterparts; and (3) the H/V of microtremors provides coincident soil response estimations at two‐thirds of the sites when considering no more than ±30% mismatch in the determination of the predominant periods. The matching of parameters obtained from the analysis of microtremors, combined with their relatively low economic cost and the possibility of recording without strict spatial or time restrictions turns microtremors into a particularly appealing approach. The problem of identification of the modal parameters of a structural model using measured ambient response time histories is addressed. A Bayesian spectral density approach (BSDA) for modal updating is presented which uses the statistical properties of a spectral density estimator to obtain not only the optimal values of the updated modal parameters but also their associated uncertainties by calculating the posterior joint probability distribution of these parameters. Calculation of the uncertainties of the identified modal parameters is very important if one plans to proceed with the updating of a theoretical finite element model based on modal estimates. It is found that the updated PDF of the modal parameters can be well approximated by a Gaussian distribution centred at the optimal parameters at which the posterior PDF is maximized. 位场分离是位场数据处理和解释中的重点和难点之一.本文给出了单步长非原位和原位两种最小曲率位场分离差分迭代格式,并利用Fourier频谱分析理论研究了这两种迭代格式的收敛性.通过研究表明,单步长非原位迭代格式不收敛,只有单步长原位迭代格式收敛,但单步长原位迭代格式受迭代方向选择的影响,随着迭代次数的增大其影响逐渐消失.根据单步长非原位迭代格式的频谱特点,提出了叠加步长非原位和原位迭代格式,同样利用Fourier频谱分析理论研究了叠加步长非原位和原位迭代格式的收敛性.通过研究认为,一维叠加步长非原位迭代格式收敛,但二维叠加步长非原位迭代格式不收敛;不论是一维或二维,其原位迭代格式均收敛.进一步的理论研究表明,非原位迭代格式的频率响应是一个实偶函数,而原位迭代格式的频率响应是一个复函数;单步长迭代格式的频率响应具有一定的周期性,而叠加步长迭代格式的频率响应无周期性特征;叠加步长迭代格式比单步长迭代格式的收敛性好. 相似文献

In global studies investigating the Earth’s lithospheric structure, the spectral expressions for the gravimetric forward and inverse modeling of the global gravitational and crustal structure models are preferably used, because of their numerical efficiency. In regional studies, the applied numerical schemes typically utilize the expressions in spatial form. Since the gravity-gradient observations have a more localized support than the gravity measurements, the gravity-gradient data (such as products from the Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer - GOCE - gravity-gradiometry satellite mission) could preferably be used in regional studies, because of reducing significantly the spatial data-coverage required for a regional inversion or interpretation. In this study, we investigate this aspect in context of a regional Moho recovery. In particular, we compare the numerical performance of solving the Vening Meinesz-Moritz’s (VMM) inverse problem of isostasy in spectral and spatial domains from the gravity and (vertical) gravity-gradient data. We demonstrate that the VMM spectral solutions from the gravity and gravity-gradient data are (almost) the same, while the VMM spatial solutions differ from the corresponding spectral solutions, especially when using the gravity-gradient data. The validation of the VMM solutions, however, reveals that the VMM spatial solution from the gravity-gradient data has a slightly better agreement with seismic models. A more detailed numerical analysis shows that the VMM spatial solution formulated for the gravity gradient is very sensitive to horizontal spatial variations of the vertical gravity gradient, especially in vicinity of the computation point. Consequently, this solution provides better results in regions with a relatively well-known crustal structure, while suppressing errors caused by crustal model uncertainties from distant zones. Based on these findings we argue that the gravity-gradient data are more suitable than the gravity data for a regional Moho recovery. 相似文献

Kernel estimation, based on the convolution of a probability density function with a set of magnitudes or event dates, provides tuneable smooth pictures of probability density functions and event intensity functions. Such pictures are in several respects superior to those provided by histograms, box plots, cumulative distributions or raw plots. They permit examination of broad features and fine structure, are readily produced with modest computational effort and are essentially free of artefacts arising from binning. Examples are given using data on cirque lengths, limestone pavements, glacier areas and dated flood deposits. The technique deserves widespread use in geomorphology and allied sciences. Converted waves have slow velocity and low signal-to-noise ratio. It is also difficult to pick first-breaks and bin the common-conversion-points (CCP). Some statics methods, which work well for P-wave data, can't be effectively used for solving convertedwave statics problems. This has become the main obstacle to breakthroughs in convertedwave data processing. To improve converted-wave static corrections, first, a statics method based on the common-receiver-point (CRP) stack is used for the initial receiver static correction to enhance the coherency of the CRP stack. Second, a stack-power-maximization static correction which improves the continuity of the CCP stack is used for detailed receiver statics. Finally, a non-surface-consistent residual moveout correction of the CCP gathers is used to enhance the stack power of reflection signals from different depths. Converted-wave statics are solved by the joint use of the three correction methods. 相似文献

Laboratory measurements of soil samples are necessary to assess the effect of mineralogy, grain size distribution, moisture content, and electrolyte composition on the resistivity spectrum of soil material. Laboratory results are also required for the interpretation of field data. Induced polarization phenomena in glacial soils are poorly understood and so far no convenient laboratory techniques are available for its measurement. Coarse grain size and the need to measure unsaturated samples and to monitor the homogeneity of the sample require a sample holder–electrode construction that differs from those presented in Clay mineral Studies. This study presents a spectral induced polarization laboratory system that is suitable for measuring fine- and coarse-grained and both saturated and unsaturated soil samples. The noise caused by the electrode–electrolyte interface is studied in detail. It is shown that easy-to-use platinum or acid-free steel potential electrodes are convenient over a broad frequency band ranging from 0.016Hz up to more than 1000 Hz. The laboratory experiments and comparisons between laboratory and field results also indicate that sampling and sample packing procedures have only a minor influence on the phase spectrum of glacial soils. 相似文献

Evapotranspiration is one of the basic components of the hydrologic cycle and essential for estimating irrigation water requirements. This paper investigates the modelling of evapotranspiration using the feed‐forward artificial neural network (ANN) technique with the Levenberg–Marquardt (LM) training algorithm. The LM algorithm has never been used in evapotranspiration estimation before. The LM is used for the optimization of network weights, since this algorithm is more powerful and faster than the conventional gradient descent. Various combinations of daily climatic data, i.e. wind speed, air temperature, relative humidity and solar radiation, from three stations in Los Angeles, USA, are used as inputs to the ANN so as to evaluate the degree of effect of each of these variables on evapotranspiration. A comparison is made between the estimates provided by the ANN and those of the following empirical models: Penman, Hargreaves, Turc. Mean square error, mean absolute error and determination coefficient statistics are used as comparing criteria for the evaluation of the models' performances. Based on the comparisons, it was found that the neural computing technique could be employed successfully in modelling evapotranspiration process from the available climatic data. The results also indicate that the Hargreaves method provides better performance than the Penman and Turc methods in estimation of the evapotranspiration. Nowadays, several research efforts have been directed towards the evaluation of the horizontal to vertical, (h/v), spectral ratio technique, following the pioneering work of Nakamura originally proposed for microtremor measurements. In the present study, an extension of this technique based on Greek and Taiwanese (SMART-1) strong motion data is attempted. Whenever possible comparisons with results obtained by the standard spectral ratio technique for the same sites are made. Regarding the Greek data it is concluded that (h/v) spectral ratio clearly distinguishes the range of resonant peaks between ‘rock’ and ‘alluvium’ sites. On the other hand, nonlinear effects that take place beneath SMART-1 array most probably obscure the expected consistency between (h/v) and standard spectral ratio technique. 相似文献

Summary Detailed gravity measurements recently carried out on the Gorner glacier, Switzerland, are used to determine the variation of thickness across the glacier ice. The Gorner glacier was chosen as a test site because seismic control was available. The glacier ice at a profile near the Monte Rosa massif is associated with a relative gravity low of about –23 mgal. Model oalculations yield a corresponding ice thickness of about 400 m at the central part of the profile. A comparison of the derived residual gravity anomaly with the calculated effect of the 3-D ice model based on seismic information is made. It is shown that the regional field determined for the Gorner glacier is appropriate and gives the correct residual anomaly associated with the glacier ice. Therefore, the proposed gravity technique for determining variations of the thickness of glacier ice appears to be a valuable and rather inexpensive method for surveying glaciers.Institut für Geophysik, ETH-Zürich, Contribution No 145. 相似文献
