Chemocline instability and isotope variations of the Ediacaran Doushantuo basin in South China 总被引:4,自引:1,他引:3
Stable isotope analyses in sections across a shelf to basinal transect of the Ediacaran Doushantuo basin show substantial isotope variabilities. In Songlin section where sediments were deposited in an intrashelf basin, δ 13C values are persistently negative (_3‰ to _5‰, VPDB) through the entire Doushantuo Formation, similar to those obtained from the slope section in Wuhe (_5‰ to _10‰, VPDB). Shallow water sections in Weng'an and Duoding show two broad δ 13C anomalies overprinted with significant meter-scale variations, but none of the curves has similar absolute δ 13C values compared to the Yangtze Gorges areas in South China and other sections globally. Such isotope variations, if partially recording ancient seawater signature, imply spatial and temporal chemocline instability in the Doushantuo basin. In combination with available δ 13C records from other Ediacaran successions globally, the data from the Doushantuo basin are consistent, in first order, with the existence and oxidation of a large dissolved organic carbon (DOC) reservoir in Ediacaran oceans, but imply local environmental controls on Neoproterozoic isotope values and call attentions for using δ 13C anomalies as time lines in stratigraphic correlation. 相似文献

Despite great achievements in the origins of domestic pigs made by the methods of zooarchaeology and molecular biology, how
to scientifically distinguish the domesticated pigs from wild boars during the early stage of pig domestication is still poorly
understood. Compared to wild boar’s diets which come from the natural environment, the diets of domestic pigs are more easily
influenced by human feeding activities. Therefore, in principle, exploration of the dietary differences among pigs and under-standing
the impact on pig diets fed by humans can have great potential to differentiate between wild boars and domesticated pigs.
To reveal dietary differences among pigs and distinguish the domesticated pigs from wild boars based on comparison with the
diets of humans and other animals, we analyzed the carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes of human bones from Xiaojingshan Site
and animal bones from Yuezhuang Site, both of which belong to Houli Culture in Shandong Province and date to about 8500-7500
years ago. The mean δ13C value ((−17.8 ± 0.3)‰) and δ15N value ((9.0±0.6)‰) in human collagen indicate that although millet agriculture began it was not the main subsistence strategy
as millets are typical of C4 plants and that humans made a living mainly by gathering, hunting or raising some domesticated animals. The δ13C value (−16.1‰) and δ15N value (6.9‰) in the bovine suggest that C3 plants were dominant in its diet with some C4 plants complemented. The fish has lower δ13C value (−24.9‰) and higher δ15N value (8.8‰) than the bovine, which is the characteristic of the isotopic values from Eurasian freshwater fish. Based on
the differences in carbon and nitrogen isotope values, the pigs can be divided into three groups. A group, composed of two
pigs, has low δ13C values (−18.1‰, −20.0‰) and low δ15N values (4.7‰, 6.0‰). B group, only one pig, has the highest δ13C value (−10.6‰) and mediate δ15N value (6.4‰). As for the C group, also only one pig, low δ13C value (−19.0‰) and the highest δ15N value (9.1‰) are observed. Previous studies on the stable isotopes from modern or ancient wild boars’ bones have suggested
that C3 plants are predominated in their diets and that their δ15N values are close to those in herbivores and far from those in carnivores. Based on the comparison with the isotope values
from humans, the wild boars and the domestic pigs from Xipo Site in Henan 6000-5500 years ago and Kangjia Site in Shaanxi
4500-4000 years ago, we conclude that A pig group belongs to wild boars while B and C groups can be attributed to domesticated
pigs.

Two types of Hepialus larvae with different diets were distinguished in the Sejila Mountain, Tibetan Plateau based on the stable carbon isotope
data of the host Hepialus larva of Cordyceps sinensis and its closely adjacent tender plant roots and humus fractions. Type I is the larva chiefly fed by soil humus, and characterized
by the δ 13C values of −22.6‰ to −23.4‰, and more than −23.4‰ in its heads. Type II is the larva chiefly fed by tender plant roots, and
characterized by the δ 13C values of −24.6‰ to −27.6‰, and less than −24.6‰ in its heads. Our result has exceeded the traditional understanding that
their food sources only come from the tender plant roots, and may provide evidence for choosing cheap and high-quality foods
and further establishing artificial habitats in their large-scale reproduction.

The distribution of two formation pathways of biogenic methane, acetate fermentation and reduction of CO2, has been extensively studied. In general, CO2 reduction is the dominate pathway in marine envi- ronment where acetate is relatively depleted because of SRB consuming. While in terrestrial freshwater or brackish environment, acetate fermentation is initially significant, but decreases with increasing buried depth. In this paper, character of biogenic gases is profiled in the XS3-4 well of the Sebei 1 gas field in the Sanhu depression, Qaidam Basin. It indicates that those two pathways do not change strictly with increasing buried depth. CO2 reduction is important near the surface (between 50 m and 160 m), and at the mesozone (between 400 and 1650 m). While acetate fermentation is the primary pathway at two zones, from 160 to 400 m and from 1650 to 1700 m. δ 13C of methane generated in those two acetate fermentation zones varies greatly, owing to different sediment circumstances. At the sec- ond zone (160-400 m), δ 13C1 ranges from ?65‰ to ?30‰ (PDB), because the main deposit is mudstone and makes the circumstance confined. At the fourth zone of the well bottom (1650-1700 m), δ 13C1 is lighter than ?65‰ (PDB). Because the deposit is mainly composed of siltstone, it well connects with outer fertile groundwater and abundant nutrition has supplied into this open system. The high con- centration of acetate is a forceful proof. δ 13C of methane would not turn heavier during fermentation, owing to enough nutrition supply. In spite of multi-occurrence of acetate fermentation, the commercial gas accumulation is dominated by methane of CO2-reduction pathway. A certain content of alkene gases in the biogenic gases suggests that methanogensis is still active at present. 相似文献

We describe analytical details and uncertainty evaluation of a simple technique for the measurement of the carbon isotopic
composition of CO2 in volcanic plumes. Data collected at Solfatara and Vulcano, where plumes are fed by fumaroles which are accessible for direct
sampling, were first used to validate the technique. For both volcanoes, the plume-derived carbon isotopic compositions are
in good agreement with the fumarolic compositions, thus providing confidence on the method, and allowing its application at
volcanoes where the volcanic component is inaccessible to direct sampling. As a notable example, we applied the same method
to Mount Etna where we derived a δ13C of volcanic CO2 between −0.9 ± 0.27‰ and −1.41 ± 0.27‰ (Bocca Nuova and Voragine craters). The comparison of our measurements to data reported
in previous work highlights a temporal trend of systematic increase of δ13C values of Etna CO2 from ~ −4‰, in the 1970’s and the 1980’s, to ~ −1‰ at the present time (2009). This shift toward more positive δ13C values matches a concurrent change in magma composition and an increase in the eruption frequency and energy. We discuss
such variations in terms of two possible processes: magma carbonate assimilation and carbon isotopic fractionation due to
magma degassing along the Etna plumbing system. Finally, our results highlight potential of systematic measurements of the
carbon isotopic composition of the CO2 emitted by volcanic plumes for a better understanding of volcanic processes and for improved surveillance of volcanic activity. 相似文献

During the 22nd Chinese Antarctic Research Expedition (CHINARE-22), the atmospheric gas samples above the oceanic surface
and near the surface were collected on the track for the scientific ship “Xuelong” and on Millor Peninsula of eastern Antarctica, respectively, using the Tedlar gas bags. Every day the sampling times were
10:00 and 22:00 (local time), respectively. In the laboratory, high-precision measurement of the isotopic compositions for
N2O in these gas samples was conducted using Thermo Finnigan MAT-253 Isotopic Mass Spectrometer with a fully automated interface
for the pre-GC concentration (PreCon) of trace gases. The temporal and spatial variations of δ
15N and δ
18O in atmospheric N2O were analyzed. The mean δ
15N and δ
18O-N2O values above the oceanic surface were (7.21±0.50)‰ and (44.52±0.52)‰, respectively. From 30°N to Antarctica, the δ
15N (6.05‰–7.88‰) linearly increased with the rate of about 0.01‰ with the latitude while the δ
18O (43.05‰–48.78‰) showed a large fluctuation. The δ
15N negatively correlated with air temperature and N2O concentration, and slightly positively correlated with δ
18O. The summertime variations of δ
15N and δ
18O-N2O appeared the same trend on Millor Peninsula of eastern Antarctica. They significantly positively correlated with each other
and negatively with N2O concentration. The δ
15N and δ
18O-N2O at different sites averaged (7.42±0.35)‰ and (44.69±0.49)‰, respectively, slightly higher than those above the oceanic surface,
significantly higher than those of atmospheric N2O in the low-latitude regions of Northern Hemisphere. The predominant factors affecting the spatial variations of δ
15N and δ
18O values were also discussed. The isotopic data given in this study can help to investigate the global and regional N2O budgets.

Hydrogen and oxygen isotope studies were carried out on mineral separates from high to ultrahigh pressure metamorphic rocks
at Huangzhen and Shuanghe in the eastern Dabie Mountains, East China. The δ18O values of eclogites cover a wide range of −5‰ to+9‰, but the δD values of micas fall within a narrow range of −85% to −70‰.
Both equilibrium and disequilibrium oxygen isotope fractionations were observed between quartz and the other minerals, with
reversed fractionations between omphacite and garnet in some eclogite samples. The δ18 O values of −5‰ to −1‰ for some of the eclogites represent the oxygen isotope compositions of their protoliths which underwent
meteoric water-rock interaction prior to plate subduction. The preservation of oxygen isotope heterogeneity in the eclogites
implies a channelized flow of fluids during progressive metamorphism caused by rapid subduction. Retrograde metamorphism has
caused oxygen and hydrogen isotope disequilibria between some of the minerals, but the fluid for retrograde reactions was
internally buffered in the stable isotope compositions.

The carbon isotope compositions of high- and ultrahigh-pressure eclogite and apatite separate from Huangzhen and Shima in SE Dabie Mountains were analyzed by EA-MS online technique. The δ13C values of the eclogites cover a wide range of -30.7‰ - +1.5‰, whereas those of apatites only have a small range of -28.1‰--21.0‰. Some of the eclogites with the high δ13C values suffered retrogressive alteration by CO2-bearing fluids. The low δ13C values of the apatites indicate that the eclogites contain surficial carbon of organic origin. It is concluded that protoliths of the eclogites were exposed to the surface of the Earth, and that the carbon-bearing fluid was depleted in 13C during the eclogite-facies metamorphism. 相似文献

Palaeodietary analysis is one of important topics in bioarchaeology field and has been paid great at- tention to by Chinese archaeometrists recently. Ancient human bones in Jiahu Site were analyzed by means of stable isotopes of C, N and O. 13 human bones were excluded from 28 bones for dietary re- construction due to their unusual collagen contents, C and N contents, and C/N atomic ratios espe- cially. δ 13C (-20.37±0.53‰) in collagen of remaining samples showed that C3 food were consumed mainly, which is consistent of the archaeological findings that rice was the staple in Jiahu. According to the difference of δ 15N and δ 13C values in bone collagen, the samples can be classified into four clusters. The changes of δ 15N values in bone collagen and δ 13C values in hydroxylapatite through whole cultural phases indicated the transition from hunting to gathering and fishing to rice agriculture and animal domestication ultimately. Expeditions to Muztagata (in the eastern Pamirs) during the summer seasons of 2002 and 2003 collected precipitation samples
and measured their oxygen isotopes. The δ
18O in precipitation displays a wide range, varying from −17.40‰ to +1.33‰ in June-September 2002 and from −22.31‰ to +4.59‰
in May-August 2003. The δ
18O in precipitation correlates with the initial temperature of precipitation during the observing periods. The positive correlation
between δ
18O and temperature suggests that δ
18O can be used as an indicator of temperature in this region. The δ
18O values in fresh-snow samples collected from two snow events at different elevations on the Muztagata Glacier show a strong

We have combined the analytical data of the carbon isotope distribution pattern, R/Ra and CH4/3He values of abiogenic and biogenic (referring to the thermogenic and bacterial or microbial) alkane gases in China with those of alkane gases from USA, Russia, Germany, Australia and other countries. Four discrimination criteria are derived from this comparative study: 1) Carbon isotopic composition is generally greater than -30‰ for abiogenic methane and less than -30‰ for biogenic methane; 2) Abiogenic alkane gases have a carbon isotopic reversal trend (δ 13C1> δ 13C2> δ 13C3> δ 13C4) with δ 13C1>-30‰ in general; 3) Gases with R/Ra >0.5 and δ 13C11 δ 13C2>0 are of abiogenic origin; 4) Gases (meth- ane) with CH4/3He≤106 are of abiogenic origin, whereas gases with CH4/3He≥1011 are of biogenic origin. 相似文献

Along the Proterozoic stratigraphic sections of Jixian, Tianjin, the δ13C values of carbonates are mostly negative in the Changchengian (Changcheng System), varying approximately within a range of (0±1 )‰in the Jixianian (Jixian System), and have commonly positive values of (2±2)‰ in the Qingbaikouan (Qingbaikou System). From Chuanlinggou Formation to Dahongyu Formation, i.e. from ca. 1700 Ma to 1600 Ma, the δ13C values of carbonates increase from about -3‰ to 0‰, but oscillate with large excursion in Dahongyu Formation. Two large excursions occur in the Jixianian, one in Yangzhuang Formation and the other in the third sub-member of Wumishan Formation overlaying. These integrated and continuous records of carbon isotope reflect secular variations of δ13C value in ancient seawater from ca. 1700 Ma to ca. 800 Ma. The increase and subsequent oscillation of seawater δ13C value occurring from the ages of ca. 1700 to ca. 1600 Ma and <1300 Ma may signify two correlative global tectonic events. 相似文献
